How's the drought, R6?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 7, 2019 10:10 PM |
Please, Op, I'd give up body parts to be back in NYC. I'm stuck in Pittsburgh where it's always dreary. IIRC we had 60 sunny days last year. We give Seattle a run for its money in terms of dreary and we are no where near the energy and excitement of NYC..
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 7, 2019 10:11 PM |
Try looking at pets.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 7, 2019 10:11 PM |
I think that humans are meant to relax and hibernate in the winter.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 7, 2019 10:13 PM |
I remember when I lived in NYC I used to say The East Village looked like Poland in the winter.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 7, 2019 10:16 PM |
Move to Hawaii.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 7, 2019 10:18 PM |
It's actually been somewhat on the cold side in SoCal this winter -- some days it doesn't get into the 60s and it can be in the 30s at night. I've used my heater more than I usually do.

Yeah, after New Years it feels like getting over a hump.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 7, 2019 10:53 PM |
Why do Americans always say New YearS?
It's one year.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 7, 2019 11:00 PM |
Now that the holiday season is at end. I am trying not to fall into a terrible depression. I find the days dreary, dark and long now. I am looking forward to spring this year.

Have been going to bed around 9:00, get a good night sleep.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 8, 2019 12:13 AM |
OP it could be worse. You could live near Detroit like I do and drive through the ruins of this city 2x a day in this dreary weather!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 8, 2019 12:23 AM |
OP, you can stream crackling fireplace vids on Netflix.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 8, 2019 12:27 AM |
In one month, it will be light at 5pm.
At the end of February it will be light at 5:30

NYC can be very sunny in winter (see pic)
Here in London, we've had one sunny day in the last 30.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 8, 2019 12:30 AM |
We're over the worst of it! I walk every evening and have come to enjoy my dark nighttime strolls. Go for a walk. Go ice skatiing and enjoy the winter in NYC!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 8, 2019 12:31 AM |
Its True NY has pretty sunny skies on the regular. Many European cities are dismal and overcast. That's why we go up high in the Alps to ski - the sun.

I thought they had LED street lights in NYC and "dark nighttime strolls" were a thing of the past.

It was beautiful today here in the Ocala National Forest, OP. Sunny, warm, and no humidity, with a high of 77 and low tonight of 56.
These are the Florida winter days the snowbirds live for.

Too bad there are Floridians.

Escape to the South for a long weekend or a week every Jan and Feb - ocassionally March. NYC has cheap flights to FL, Caribbean, Texas - even CA. Find a cheap hotel in Tampa for 2-3 nights. Can cost less than a weekend of drinks and dinner in NYC.
And NYC is way better than Europe - overcast, rainy, damp, dark. NYC has those crystal clear winter days where the light is blinding. Makes even the dreary streets cheerful.
Plus in NYC, there is always somewhere interesting to go inside. Try being stuck in rural New England where you can’t leave your house all winter.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 8, 2019 2:58 AM |
R37 try to dress more warmly. There is no reason to be stuck indoors all winter.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 9, 2019 11:16 PM |
Every day, after the first day of winter.. it stays lighter by one minute.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 9, 2019 11:29 PM |
Thank you, r32.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 9, 2019 11:33 PM |
R37 but it doesn’t get as cold in London or Paris and hardly ever snows or has those crazy storms.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 9, 2019 11:33 PM |
When I lived in NYC my favorite time to walk through Central Park was February. It was deserted & I had it mostly to myself. I’d go in the park at 86 and walk down to 59th. Then I’d walk to 42nd along 5th and come back home along Park or Madison.
I loved the bare teees and the gray sky, especially when there was snow on the ground. It was only rarely too windy to walk. I’d bundle up and walk every day it wasn’t raining and I’d lose a good 10 lbs by March.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 9, 2019 11:53 PM |
OP no sympathy from me, a lonely suburban dweller due to work. You’re in the city for krissake, go find something to do.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 10, 2019 12:35 AM |
OP, if the darkness is getting to you go to the East Side Club and suck some dick for a while.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 10, 2019 12:39 AM |
First of all, bundle up. Go to a different hotel every night and have one drink. Go see a show. Go to a museum. Go to a different restaurant and sit at the bar and have an app. Go sit in a hotel lobby and people watch. Ride the subway to a new neighborhood and explore. Take a college course. Get a second job.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 10, 2019 12:51 AM |
R19 it's possessive, not plural "Why do Americans..." troll
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 10, 2019 1:26 AM |
Yeah, but in Europe it's overcast and grey a lot more from October to May. Euros tell me even 25F feels better here because the sun is shining. Better for mental health, too.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 10, 2019 2:13 AM |
Love the short days. Hate the summer.

R51, what a useless answer.

Light candles, exercise, take 10,000 IU of Vitamin D, learn something new, watch YouTube videos.
