The case will continue on March 4 for a preliminary hearing.

A plea of not guilty was entered.

And the judge said not to get arrested in the meantime. If he does, it's an automatic 90 days in jail. No idea how that'd be enforced if he's busted outside of MA, but there you are: stay outta trouble, Kev.

He looked slightly less slick than i thought he would. Hair a bit windswept and fuzzy. I thought he'd wear a snazzy blue suit like he used to, never thought he'd wear that. He looks tired and retired.

How is it like the Flynn case? The girls he’s alleged to have had sex with were underage by state law- there’s no getting around that. In this case the guy was an adult regardless of what he told Spacey.

Flynn got off because he was a movie star and because the defense painted the two girls as sluts and brought up one girl’s abortion.

R23 The prosecutors, the Clerk-Magistrate, and the judge didn't think it was a bullshit case, apparently.

In fact, a "show-cause" hearing - a sort of "mini-trial" to preview the evidence - held on Nantucket in December determined there were sufficient facts to proceed with Spacey's arraignment and trial. Spacey's lawyers tried to get him arraigned at the time (December 20th) saying he was on the island and available to appear. That request, and one to excuse his appearance from yesterday's arraignment, were both denied by the Clerk-Magistrate; the former because no judge was on the island that day, the latter because it appears doing so would have been without precedent: a defendant's appearance for a misdemeanor can be waived but they must be present to answer felony charges.

"Spacey’s criminal charges became public only after the Globe received a tipster’s phone call and scrambled to verify that through calls, including to the Nantucket courthouse. Efforts to find online court records were hampered by the fact Spacey is listed under his legal name, Kevin Fowler. On Dec. 24, District Attorney O’Keefe confirmed to the Globe that charges against Spacey had been issued. Spacey’s lawyers subsequently asked a District Court judge if the actor could be spared a public arraignment, saying the publicity would be prejudicial. But once the case was beyond the clerk-magistrate hearing, there would be little precedent for allowing Spacey to avoid public scrutiny. The request was denied."
