The popular British drama that has already been remade once already, “Queer as Folk,” is getting the remake treatment yet again.

So this is just a big fuck you to that unwatchable Netflix remake?

by Anonymousreply 1December 18, 2018 11:00 PM

Wasn't this that Jonathan Groff thingy, essentially?

by Anonymousreply 2December 18, 2018 11:00 PM

FFS. Hasn't [bold]ANYONE[/bold] got any new ideas?

by Anonymousreply 3December 18, 2018 11:04 PM

Go back to bed, Carson/r1.

by Anonymousreply 4December 18, 2018 11:07 PM

Littlefinger is sexier now than when he did the original.

Charlie Hunnam is MUCH sexier now than when he did the original.

Vince was better than Michael.

by Anonymousreply 5December 18, 2018 11:20 PM

Netflix remake? When did they remake QAF?

by Anonymousreply 6December 18, 2018 11:29 PM

I pray it will be better than the EXECRABLE Showtime version.

by Anonymousreply 7December 18, 2018 11:29 PM

I have no idea what R1 is talking about, unless he means Tales of the City, which is ***SO*** not a QAF remake.

by Anonymousreply 8December 18, 2018 11:37 PM

@5 - I agree! When I watched the UK original, I liked the character of Vince so much more than Michael. But, I liked Brian's character more than Stuart.

by Anonymousreply 9December 18, 2018 11:42 PM

r1 is mixing up Queer As Folk with Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

by Anonymousreply 10December 18, 2018 11:55 PM

I wonder if they will recreate the teen rimming scene.

by Anonymousreply 11December 19, 2018 12:07 AM

Please, please, PLEASE let them start with the general idea, then rewrite the whole thing from scratch.

The later seasons of QaF/US were practically unwatchable messes of political correctness and one-dimensional characters written by straight screenwriters.

Pretty much the entire original plot is now trite & irrelevant.

Ben's HIV was a big deal in the early 2000s... now, he'd just be undetectable. The only other thing noteworthy about him would be if he were the only genuinely monogamous member of the gang. Maybe some potential for conflict between him and Brian if Brian & Justin used Michael as their party-bottom pass-around and made him feel jealous & hurt.

Ted's whoredom? Yawn. Cast Greg Bennett (RWNJ) as Ted, and let us see some softcore sex, and it might be plot-worthy.

Emmett? Well, ok... he'd still be Emmett. Wait, what was noteworthy about him besides his open queeniness? Maybe they could re-cast his character as a trans guy who was ultra-butch for a few years post-transitioning, then decided to instead be non-binary and celebrate his femininity instead after years of hating it.

Put another way, we don't want to watch a show with preachy saints & one-dimensional sinners. We want guys who fuck like whores, but have other things that make them interesting the other 84% of the time. Basically, we want another season of "Looking".

by Anonymousreply 12December 19, 2018 12:33 AM

Let's just call it now - you KNOW there's going to be a T or at least a significant T storyline that shows how gay men discriminate with men who have vaginas.

And, we're not going to be painted in a particularly good light.

I hope I'm wrong, but doubt it.

by Anonymousreply 13December 19, 2018 12:43 AM

I'm glad it's a reboot and not a reunion of the dreadful American/Canadian version of the show.

by Anonymousreply 14December 19, 2018 3:33 AM

The original series were groundbreaking but dont really hold up nowadays . I hope they get better writers and actually show diversity in its cast. I will laugh my tight ass off if it premieres before the L Word reboot that was announced over a year ago.

by Anonymousreply 15December 19, 2018 4:13 AM

I hope Hal Sparks can fit it into his schedule

by Anonymousreply 16December 19, 2018 4:30 AM

I dont.

by Anonymousreply 17December 19, 2018 4:32 AM

Call it Gay as Fuck.

by Anonymousreply 18December 19, 2018 5:04 AM

Prediction: Remake Emmett will be transgendered, Remake Ted will be Gaysian, Remake Brian will be black and bisexual or pansexual, and Remake Ben will be a pos undetectable Latino.

by Anonymousreply 19December 19, 2018 7:48 AM
I'm glad it's a reboot and not a reunion of the dreadful American/Canadian version of the show.

It's a soft reboot in the sense that we'll revisit the original characters to see where they are now and then the show will focus on the new characters with the originals pooping in from time to time, like how 90210 did their reboot. The new show will focus on Brian's nephew who just moved to Pittsburgh and his group of friends.

by Anonymousreply 20December 19, 2018 7:51 AM

The time has come and gone, hence there will be a strong 'T' storyline. Maybe they'll have more lesbians, or make it more political. I don't know - as a gay man, I didn't really identify with the US version. Well, either version. It seems as if that's a reality for a minority of urban gay men, many who are still into looking good and having casual sex. Most of the gay men I know live quite boring lives. QAF doesn't really represent any of us. And at my age, I don't care to watch some superficial show that just plays into stereotypes. I don't if straight people do, either.

by Anonymousreply 21December 19, 2018 8:01 AM

R20 Where the hell are you getting that from? According to the Variety article, Bravo is working directly with Russell T. Davies (creator of the original British Version) and it will be a complete reboot of the show. None of the American version Producers, writers or actors are involved.

by Anonymousreply 22December 19, 2018 2:45 PM

Just to add to my post in R22, Showtime owns the rights to the 2000 to 2005 North American version, while Bravo has purchased the British rights directly from Russell T. Davies. That is why none of the original American cast will be involved unless Showtime sells its rights or gives a licence to Bravo to do so.

r19 is a clueless Log Cabin Republican who doesn't understand that gays have benefited from diversity

by Anonymousreply 25December 19, 2018 5:32 PM

Ted will develop an addiction to opioids. Meth is so 2001.

by Anonymousreply 26December 19, 2018 5:46 PM

The British version turned to utter shit by the end of its run (and there were only TWO seasons). Showtime's Queer As Folk was more fun and more campy and much, much more sexy. Sure, the stories sucked bad sometimes but it was still fun.

by Anonymousreply 27December 19, 2018 5:47 PM

So the Banana Cucumber concept has been canceled for good?

by Anonymousreply 28December 19, 2018 5:49 PM

I don't think this is a reboot so much as it's a "new entry" into the QAF franchise. It's supposedly new characters in a new setting taking place in modern times. I'm happy that Davis is on board but my main concern is that it's going to be on Bravo which means they'll for sure be cutting back on the nudity and sex.

by Anonymousreply 29December 19, 2018 5:58 PM

I agree. Netflix, HBO, or Starz would be great. Showtime would probably be out of the question since they did the US version (Davis wasn't involved with).

by Anonymousreply 30December 19, 2018 6:00 PM

Someone on Twitter just pointed this out......perhaps the new show will have a connection the UK version after all?

by Anonymousreply 31December 19, 2018 6:01 PM

r27, you have that exactly backwards. The British version was great and the American version was absolute shit.

by Anonymousreply 32December 19, 2018 6:20 PM

R32 Amen!

by Anonymousreply 33December 19, 2018 6:23 PM

I hope it doesn't turn into Woke as Folk!

by Anonymousreply 34December 19, 2018 6:29 PM
FFS. Hasn't ANYONE got any new ideas?

There’s ten billion new shows on, hon.

by Anonymousreply 35December 19, 2018 6:33 PM

How many trans characters will this have?

by Anonymousreply 36December 19, 2018 6:34 PM

What is the point? It’s not classic drama.

by Anonymousreply 37December 19, 2018 6:40 PM

I'd love it if they made Charlie Hunnam the twink-chasing daddy this time.

by Anonymousreply 38December 19, 2018 6:41 PM
We want guys who fuck like whores,

We do?

Thanks for being my spokesperson.

by Anonymousreply 39December 19, 2018 6:42 PM

Gay is only a tiny minority in the world of Queer now so brace yourselves for a lot of straight folk with funky hair and maybe the odd furry.

Joking aside I loved Russell T Davies writing (including his Dr Who stint) so maybe it will be good if he stays involved.

by Anonymousreply 40December 19, 2018 6:51 PM

Man you have terrible taste r27, the original version was far sexier. It knew how a build a realistic feeling sexy scene. The American remake had too much cheesy soft-core porn that ends up not being sexy because it doesn't even feel real.

by Anonymousreply 41December 20, 2018 12:18 AM

The one show where I would love to see a reunion and turns out that’s not gonna happen.

So basically this is a new show.

I wonder if Showtime is pissed. Can they can do their own American reboot with ongoing cameos of the old cast? That’s what I want to see.

by Anonymousreply 42December 20, 2018 12:48 AM

Showtime's mistake was not involving the original writer in the first place. The writing on the Showtime version was beyond bad. It was horrid.
