Kate Moss

I used to think Kate Moss was plain looking and didn't know why she was everywhere all of a sudden. But now I think she's one of the most versatile models ever.

She has a rags-to-riches, discovered like Lana Turner at Schwab's, plucked out of obscurity beginning.

by Anonymousreply 4December 15, 2018 5:23 AM

Even Rupaul wasn't sure about her longevity by not mentioning her in "Supermodel"

by Anonymousreply 5December 15, 2018 5:36 AM

nope. She's an anorexic-looking average faced woman. Nothing special about her at all especially without all the makeup and special effects. 1 of the most overrated models of all time

by Anonymousreply 6December 15, 2018 5:40 AM

She had perfect timing as far as entering the modeling business.

by Anonymousreply 7December 15, 2018 6:15 AM

I am editing R49.

I’m Room 1717. I would like a double-thick roast beef sandwich medium rare on rye bread with mustard on the top, mayonnaise on the bottom, and a coffee hot fudge sundae with a large bottle of diet anything. You got that?

Oh, and Room Service, would you put it in the hall outside the door. I mean, don’t bring it in or knock on the door because I’m just putting my little one to sleep. Thank you.

Whoops! Wrong thread!

by Anonymousreply 9December 15, 2018 2:25 PM

She’s grown on me over the last 30 years. Kind of the Keith Richards of models.

I'm no fan of supermodels, incl. Moss. But she's gorgeous in the flesh, breathtakingly beautiful.

For all her troubles, she's remained well liked and has a sense of humour about herself. In with people like Jennifer Saunders.

by Anonymousreply 14December 15, 2018 8:00 PM

She’s really a bit too short for runway but she’s pulled it off. Either the camera loves you or it doesn’t.

by Anonymousreply 15December 15, 2018 8:03 PM

lol some of you have really low standards if you think Moss is stunning or an amazing model

by Anonymousreply 16December 15, 2018 8:19 PM

I think she’s even more beautiful as she gets close to 50. And there is no one with more style than Kate. She always manages to look amazingly chic.

by Anonymousreply 17December 15, 2018 8:28 PM

again low standards. There are plenty of stunning supermodels with great style. She along Gizelle Bundchen and the new "it girls" Gigi Hadid/Kendall Jenner are vastly overrated

by Anonymousreply 18December 15, 2018 8:38 PM

she's good at chopping cocaine - remember the hidden camera footage at the recording studio?

by Anonymousreply 19December 15, 2018 8:49 PM

She still have that one fang tooth that always stuck out?

by Anonymousreply 20December 15, 2018 8:50 PM

R18 tells the truth. We as a society have been in a race to the bottom for decades, and this manifests in all aspects of the entertainment industry. We have writers who cannot write at all, poets who don't know the meaning of rhyme, structure and meter (let alone sense), painters who do things that even a two year old would consider embarrassing, sculptors who produce shit, singers who cannot sing a note to save their lives, dancers who appear to be made out of wood, disastrously bad actors and models who are plain at best, and have the charisma of a crushed potato.

Still, it's remarkable how Moss has managed to outlive her betters in spite of her lack of attractiveness, short stature and many scandals. Goes to show that having fanatical self-belief and making the right contacts is more important than anything else in this world.

by Anonymousreply 21December 15, 2018 9:16 PM

She can exude a certain strength that other models cannot. Superficially an ‘ I don’t give a shit ‘ thing but it really has some ballsiness.

Pity she hung about with that fat shit Green but I’ve seen her with Bobby Gillespie so I’m going to pretend it’s like matter and anti-matter.

by Anonymousreply 22December 15, 2018 9:44 PM

I never understood her when she came out in the 90s - but her maintenance is stunning. I can not believe she looks so good at her age with all the partying she’s done. A freak of nature. For perseverance and enduring beauty, she has gained my respect.

by Anonymousreply 23December 15, 2018 10:36 PM

Never understood why she's a top model. And she was never a supermodel.

I believe Kate Moss paved the way for mediocre models such as Gigi and Bella Hadid. Even Gisele, who isn't all that if you look really close at her.

by Anonymousreply 24December 15, 2018 10:41 PM

She has a rock chick chic thing, she dated Johnny Depp when he was beautiful, she created a mystique for herself. I think she has charisma in spades and that’s how she’s done it.

by Anonymousreply 25December 15, 2018 10:52 PM

I know of a tale involving a hair stylist who screamed at her backstage "I don't care who the fuck you are, just sit your ugly fucking arse down!" She apparently got a round of applause from the other models. Moss is just nothing spectacular. Look at other models who were around at the time and it's a fucking mystery as to who considers that bony cunt sexy.

by Anonymousreply 26December 15, 2018 10:55 PM

She became famous during the early '90s, during grunge and heroin chic. Her looks captured the time and place. IMO, she has good personal style (if you look at candid photos, how she's dressed, accessorized, etc.). The David Yurman ads (as mentioned upthread) were really nice as well.

Yes. Christy, Linda, and Naomi were the three top Supermodels of this era in the 90s.

Kate Moss was always second-tier.

by Anonymousreply 29December 15, 2018 11:00 PM

Christy is still a seriously beautiful woman. Kate Moss has the face of a Croydon Slag who's misplaced her ciggy.

All the makeup and photoshop in the world can't hide the fact that she's always looked hard and used up.

by Anonymousreply 32December 16, 2018 2:56 PM

I always found Kate Moss very striking and that she photographed very well.

by Anonymousreply 33December 16, 2018 3:10 PM

I have to give it to somebody with small teeth who has "made it" in the "visual world". She could do with keeping them cleaner, though, .but her smile proves that teeth are only a part of having a great one. I like that she appears to like clothes as opposed to "fashion". She IS spoilt within the industry, but that shows that it is important to be nice and collaborative, so when you fuck up, people may be more tolerant of your folly. I like that we think we know her, but she really isn't a Labba Mouth Mary about her business. She knows how to keep a friend. She seems to have cleaned up with her drinking and sniffing. Yes, she still smokes, but two out of three aint bad. Again, she has that skill of networking with the right friend for a need. Fat Tony, a DJ has been very important in her maintaining sobriety. He was a near thirty year addict who ended up picking his teeth out his mouth one by one. He's obviously a good'un.

After all she's put herself through, I'm surprised that she has so much emotional intelligence and took the only sensible thing that has come out of his mouth ( Johnny Depp) seriously; well more seriously than he. "Don't complain, never explain". And she is right. Nobody is going to want to hear the witterings of a model who is a moaner, but is getting paid for posing and is a mere miracle of genes ( Ie, they didn't give themselves their looks. It was a mere accident) unless it is to do with exposing the abuse within the industry.

Kate Moss also knows the difference between "famous" and "celebrity", too. Just like ( whether we like him or not) Leonardo di Caprio. A subtlety that Millennials ( as a class) have thrown in the bin, but is not serving them well.

by Anonymousreply 34December 16, 2018 3:58 PM

Oh, another thing that I have noticed about Kate Moss. She is a member of the not too big club that is "white, British, small headed, non doughy, features on the "upturn"." Even her daughter got the "doughy" British look, cute as she is.

by Anonymousreply 35December 16, 2018 4:03 PM

Love it that rarely comments in anything at all. We hear too much from celebrities nowadays.

by Anonymousreply 36December 16, 2018 4:07 PM

I wish I had a dollar for every cock Kate's sucked to get & stay where she is.

by Anonymousreply 37December 16, 2018 4:40 PM

I've always thought both she and Bjork would make excellent Pippi Longstockings for Halloween.

by Anonymousreply 38December 16, 2018 6:04 PM

If she sharts, she goes down a dress size.

by Anonymousreply 39December 16, 2018 6:13 PM

Kate Moss and Paulina Porizkova are the two supermodels who have spent their entire careers not smiling professionally.

by Anonymousreply 40December 16, 2018 11:38 PM

Her eyes were super far apart, made for extra dramatic pictures. Great bone structure, kind of crooked features (but still had full lips). Great eyes. The crooked smile/nose plus the great bone structure gave her an individuality, kind of a broken angel thing. She had GREAT hair when she was young, and those extreme bow legs that somehow make clothes look great on camera or in stills (don't know what it looks like in person).

This pic of her as a kid - terrible hair, original nose - she looks completely ordinary. Sometimes I wonder how much untapped potential, lookswise, is in some people around us who never intersect with anyone or anything that can bring it out.

The real stars, like Linda Evangelista, had it (and knew it), from an early age.

Kate is a chameleon, a beautiful blank slate to project your desires onto. Perfect for a model.

by Anonymousreply 45December 17, 2018 12:24 AM

R41, that's a good question. I think there are a lot of people who could look beautiful, with some effort.

by Anonymousreply 46December 17, 2018 12:29 AM

[quote]Kate is a chameleon,

R47 I don't know why you're so judgmental and why opinions other than your own make you so vicious. And I don't care! She's an ethereal chameleon.

by Anonymousreply 48December 17, 2018 12:31 AM

[quote]And I don't care! She's an ethereal chameleon.

She’s nothing compared to Linda. Except maybe a tired, drug-addled, second-rate wannabe.

by Anonymousreply 49December 17, 2018 12:35 AM

yikes never knew about her original nose! even more ordinary now. I prefer natural beauties. Yes a lot of models have had work done but were beautiful before it. Kate was average at best

by Anonymousreply 50December 17, 2018 2:10 AM

Like Madonna, no one would have predicted she would have still been around decades later.

by Anonymousreply 51December 17, 2018 2:22 AM

I always thought Heidie Klum was such a plain Jane I could never see her charm.

by Anonymousreply 54December 17, 2018 3:32 AM

I think Heidi is beautiful, same with Kate. Never got Christie Brinkleys appeal...

by Anonymousreply 55December 17, 2018 3:43 AM

If love to know the drug cocktail in Doherty pic. She did have effortless style. She was living with Count Otro Von Bismarcks great great grandson.

by Anonymousreply 56December 17, 2018 4:05 AM

Kate has fantastic personal style.

by Anonymousreply 57December 17, 2018 4:25 AM

For those who say she's average looking and it's all effects, I'd say she never struck my as someone who actually believed she was the most beautiful person or that she "deserved" her model/celeb life. She was discovered, caught a break, and fucking ran with it. She shouldn't be ashamed for milking it and enjoying it. Also, as we all know - not all models are beautiful. Sometimes, models are model-y AND beautiful (e.g., Crawford). But, plenty are just model-y.

by Anonymousreply 58December 17, 2018 4:30 AM

"All the makeup and photoshop in the world can't hide the fact that she's always looked hard and used up."

But, I'd argue it worked for her, for the most part.

by Anonymousreply 59December 17, 2018 4:32 AM

I don’t know how anyone could look the pic at r42 and not see a beautiful woman? Yeah she has aged but, but at one time she was gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 60December 17, 2018 4:33 AM

by Anonymousreply 64December 17, 2018 4:42 AM

I don't have any issues with the thickness in her current photo above. It's just that her arms are so thin compared to her legs and torso, so it's sort of off. That's not unusual, but it always strikes me as weird.

Moss had incredible versatility--can take about any kind of picture--street grunge, high fashion, old-school Hollywood glam and, for the most part, she kept her mouth shut so her personality didn't get in the way of picture making. Linda Evangelista was white-hot for a few years, but she never had the range Moss had--she wasn't going to look like a waif. Ever. And that "$10,000 a day" comment didn't help her career.

Moss also seems to care about making a great picture--she has a sense of style and she's worked with a lot of artists--her swallow tats are by Lucien Freud--from when she posed for him. Also not self-conscious--she's clearly comfortable nude.

So, the right attitude and features made for the camera.

I lived in New York in the early 90s when Kate Moss was all over bus stops And billboards around the city. I did not see how she fit into the glamazons supermodel world at the time.

A friend of mine came to visit and unexpectedly brought this really obnoxious girl who went on and on about Kate Moss, which annoyed me more. I always think of her whenever I see Kate Moss, and how she was right about her longevity as a model.

by Anonymousreply 71December 20, 2018 1:16 AM

She would probably not have been a supermodel in the 80s.

Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington started in the 80s and had that glamazon look.

by Anonymousreply 72December 22, 2018 4:50 AM

She has beautiful feet, you’ve got to give that to her.

by Anonymousreply 73December 22, 2018 5:13 AM

Nope, Moss was the pendulum swing from the 80s Glamazon look, so she wouldn't have been part of the power-model look.

She'd have been fine, though, in the late 60s and the 1920s.

by Anonymousreply 74December 22, 2018 6:00 AM

I think she wears frauness well. She looks better put together and relatively happy today.

[quote]Moss was the pendulum swing from the 80s Glamazon look, so she wouldn't have been part of the power-model look.

The today's models are a motley bunch. I can't wait to see some more supernaturally proportioned supermodels with stunning good looks back in the media again.

by Anonymousreply 75December 22, 2018 6:35 AM
