I swear I remember seeing it in some form from the episode "The Charm School" but it's no longer on the DVD release. I remember them on exercise bikes. There are photos but the footage is no longer to be found. Am I imagining that it ever aired?
Also cut were the scenes where Lucy and Ethel fingered each other, and when Fred jizzed all over Ethel's face.

A bit off-topic but why isn't "I Love Lucy" shown on TV more? The only place I ever see it is on Hallmark, which means when Hallmark takes it off during this time every year to show holiday movies round-the-clock, "I Love Lucy" completely disappears until they bring it back on in January. In contrast, you can see "Frasier," "Cheers" and "Golden Girls" on several other channels during that period but not "Lucy." Does Hallmark have exclusive rights?

I Love Lucy used to be on a few channels if I remember correctly. TV Land, Nick at Nite, and TBS? I remember seeing it on all of those at some point in my life.

Over time, they've snipped a lot of what they considered insignificant bits out of the shows, so they could fit in more commercials. I found those little tidbits were usually my favorite parts of the episodes, little slices of flavor of the time and mood of the show.

Yes! Some episodes have been edited. They do the same to The Golden Girls and it's awful. These were meant to be half hour shows. They're set up for commercial breaks. Sometimes, they squeeze in a commercial break in the middle of one of Rose's St. Olaf stories. It's ridiculous.

Why would they cut it from the DVD release which added the original animated segments back in?

You should be getting complete episodes on the DVDs, but sometimes even what's on the DVDs reflect syndication edits. I remember reading that the DVDs of the first season of Roseanne were the trimmed-for-syndication versions and not the network broadcasts.

speaking of which, will we ever see the third season (and more) on Blu Ray?

I hate, but get the cutting scenes on TV reruns to squeeze in more commercials (greedy bastards) but I don't get cutting even one second of what was on in the first run on DVD. You're paying for the fucking DVDs!! WTF is the point of paying for any show in a cut or censored version?????

I know some shows have music rights issues that sometimes forces them to change the music and maybe recut some stuff when they hit DVD (the TV syndication rights are usually negotiated when they're first put on the air) but I don't think Lucy would have had that issue.

For some reason they cut an important scene out of the Tallulah Bankhead episode on the DVD. After the strawberry pie gets destroyed, Tallulah says it's her lucky night as she is violently allergic to strawberries (they give her hives). Without this little bit of information, Lucy's substituting strawberry sauce for the orange sauce and all of Tallulah's violent scratching in the PTA play makes no sense,

All these old shows suffer through the same editing. The Odd Couple is a prime example. Even the full season dvd's have cuts and on a show like the Odd Couple it really stands out. It really is sinful how the quest for more money for a 30 second spot just ruins things.

r6 r7 "I Love Lucy" AND "The Lucy Show" are on DECADES every morning.

The Lucy Show is barely tolerable. After DL fav Vivian Vance left, it became unbearable.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 26, 2018 10:50 PM |
I believe that scene was taken out because of Vivian Vance's camel-toe.

They haven't taken out this scene from Three's Company reruns of John Riiter exposing his nutsack:

No. They weren't selling.

No they don't. Most are uncut and complete from the original prints. They indicate if they were from the syndicated because they couldn't find the master. The public demands the original prints.
