Lara is one of the saddest of all. Those pics of her swigging from a bottle in a daytime liquor store parking lot are just awful. Jonathan Rhys Meyers drinking cheap vodka on a London street. Also there were pics of Brigitte Neilson swigging from a bottle of Popov and rolling around on the ground in an LA Park. She must have sobered up because she went on to birth a baby later at 60 or whatever she is.

William Holden. He died after hitting his head on the bedside table at his apt. He dabbed the wound with some tissues but couldn't stop the flow of blood. He was probably too wasted to think it was a big deal. The loss of blood killed him.
Add Errol Flynn to R18's post. Didn't Flynn's drunken pal Raoul Walsh take Barrymore's body from the morgue and bring him to Flynn's house? I believe they propped him on the couch and waited for Flynn to find his dead buddy in the morning. Flynn came home after a night of partying drunk off his ass saw Barrymore's body and freaked out.

Oliver Reed might be the king of heavy drinkers, if he counts as a Hollywood actor.
He died at a bar having lunch.
From IMDB, here was his lunch: He died of a heart attack in a bar after downing three bottles of Captain Morgan's Jamaica rum, eight bottles of German beer, numerous doubles of Famous Grouse whiskey and Hennessy cognac, and beating five much younger Royal Navy sailors at arm-wrestling. His bar bill for that final lunch time totaled 270 Maltese lira, almost £450, about $594.72.

Former Brooks must be Foster Brooks who was a comedian in the old days whose schtick was playing drunk. Whether he was really a drunk I don’t know. His act seemed really tasteless and tawdry when I was a kid. He was from my hometown of Louisville and held a golf tournament there every year which is probably the only reason I knew who he was.

[quote] R55: MTM would be surprising. She always came across as a quiet control freak
MTM was one of those alcoholics who would twist herself into a pretzel to avoid being labeled an alcoholic. Sometimes, it’s because of fear that they can’t stop, and don’t want to be seen drinking after admitting that they should t be drinking. Sometimes Pride, or I guess, a million different reasons.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 21, 2018 5:11 PM |

Years ago I was a waiter at restaurant that Kate Capshaw and Rita Wilson would frequent. One time, they were there during the swing shift (around 3pm). It was just them in the dining room. I was *slowly* filling and refilling the sugar caddies at nearby tables... and totally eavesdropping. Seems Rita was pissed because Tom was wasted the night before. She made him sleep on the couch. Again. She was concerned it was becoming a major problem.
For some reason, that cracked me up. The most famous actor in the world relegated to the couch for being a common drunk.

Jason Robards Jr.—Lauren Bacall's second husband—as was Humphrey Bogart, already mentioned. Just finished her much-loved auto-bio and the booze runs rampant through both marriages and social settings, although not so much with Bacall herself. And it is never alluded to as alcoholism.

It's different nowadays. Bogart, Mitchum, Huston, Wayne, these were real MEN, and "real" MEN drank, simple as that. They started in the afternoon and drank until the end of the evening. Day in and day out.
Nowadays hollywood heavy drinkers means actors get drunk at every event after-party and then go to rehab behind closed doors.
Heavy drinker means what? If I know this one actor and he gets hammered two or three nights a week, does that a heavy drinker make? More of a normal binge drinker. The other days he's in the daily mail getting iced coffees and going to the gym and looking healthy.
Clooney's pals did a slight intervention, because he was drinking daily like his heroes Sinatra and Gerry Weintraub. "First vodka at 4pm" type of thing.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | November 24, 2018 6:43 AM |
See R120, Doctors have been trying for years to get through to people that there is no such thing as "normal binge drinker", as binge drinking is abnormal, and not healthy. It is better to have a unit or two each and everyday apparently, rather than saving them up. I'm not judging, nor am I a teetotaler, but honestly feel binge drinking may only be somewhat "normal" for first or second year university students.

If anybody needs a motivation to stop drinking.........just google a recent photo of jan michael vincent and it is enuf to shock you into giving up booze cigs and drugs.
Marilyn s problem was that she couldnt sleep...........and she had to be up and looking beautiful the next day for the camera s...............a very distressing problem to have. In 1962 sleeping meds and barbituates etc etc, basically anything a dr prescribed were viewed as miracle drugs and were not considered taboo. There was no such thing as a rehab center in 1962. A different era.
There was never an incident either making a movie or a public event when Marilyn wasnt in full control, She was at most a moderate drinker and then it was bloody marys and champagne..........for sure not the beverage s of choice for alcoholics.

I remember hearing about Jason Priestly having a serious case of whisky dick from all his boozing. He would have to feverishly flog his dick to get it up and had difficulty keeping hard.
I heard something similar with Sean Penn.

I think Madonna was a hot mess "bad girl" before getting knocked up. Her life was off-kilter. She was dyking out, doing drugs in Miami, singing terribly (she'd basically stopped singing and was sing-talking her lyrics). Then she got pregnant and cleaned up her shit and we got Ray of Light. It's been kind of tragic ever since.

R141 never heard of Kimmel drinking but it does seem the late night hosts do like their alcohol.
Carson, Letterman. Merv Griffin? Chelsea Handler.

I heard DiCaprio was a big time drunk in the late 90s - I wonder if he still is?

Whoopi Goldberg used to be. She went to Mardi Gras, blacked out for a couple of days and came to in another city. She doesn't really drink anymore.
