You know when you put a website on the box at the top the page
for example amazon.com
and because you looked at books -keeps sending you to the books section
how can you change it - so that it "forgets" books?
or you go to some news site and it keeps sending you to some story you once looked at weeks ago.
Sorry for my very non-tech post but I think I've conveyed the gist of it.
Many TIA.

Unfortunately OP, suicide is your only answer.

You have to clear your browser of cookies, If I understood you correctly.
Cookies are the track system that remembers how you navigate a site to speed up things.
On Chrome you should go to settings> Advanced>Privacy and Security>Content Settings>Cookies>See all cookies and site data , and then you have to search on the bar for Amazon and delete all the cookies there.
You could delete the cookie about books specifically but you would have to know which one is that. Sometimes you can guess by its name, but more often than not you can't. Please be advised that deleting the cookies will erase everything you've done on Amazon and next time you login it will forget your saved password, login name, favorites etc.
Same can be done if you're banned or troll listed here on DL. You can just erase the Datalounge cookies and wait to be allowed to post again.
PS: Must everyone here be an ass to people asking for help?

Thank you, R3 - VERY MUCH.
I've wanted to know this for YEARS.

Rose, I’m glad you moved on from your abacus. Very proud of you!

R3, I genuinely had no idea what 'box' is referred to. Perhaps if OP had mentioned a specific browser.
Still not sure if this is about a bookmark or a google search or what.

I can't find settings in Chrome.
So this is a non-starter.
But thanks anyway.

No, but it is what makes the Datalounge great.

UM, not really.

I'm sorry OP but I had to laugh at R5 😂. Glad you're updated now.
I did understand that the box thing was referring to bookmarks, it wasn't an Egyptian riddle, people.

People, you can always google "where are settings on chrome" or once you realize its about cookies, "how do I delete cookies". That much you all know, right?
I'm on a Mac so maybe it's different on Windows but settings are usually located at the tree dots at the upper right corner of the browser, right beside the avatar/profile picture of the user. You click on that and a list will pop up, the penultimate option is Settings.

Yes, but I don't want to delete ALL my cookies.

Yes, you can and you get stuff from 2012 when it was totally different.

Please go to Youtube and watch a video from 2018 on how to google search, all you have to to is select Tools and then the year you want to see the results shown. I don't want to sound mean but how have you survived using the Internet for that long without this basic knowledge?
BTW you can also select on youtube to watch the most recent videos only.
As for cookies you don't have to delete all cookies, but if you want to erase your experience with Amazon or CNN, you will have to delete all the cookies from that particular site, there's no other way around it.
You do realize that cookies only track the pages you've visited, the passwords you saved and your behavior on that particular site right? It won't erase your bookmarks if that's what you're worried about.

Yes, you have to clear cookies / history / cache. The other thing you can do is to make sure to sign out of Amazon, Google, etc., while you browse.

What the hell are you talking about?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 12, 2018 10:12 PM

R7: I believe you are talking about your HISTORY, not your COOKIES. When you start typing in [italic]amazon.com....[/italic] and it automatically auto-fills to the last page you visited? Clearing your history in Chrome is in the Settings, like R3 explained, but you would clear your history ("All time") instead of your Cookies.
RE: your Cookies; if you are a non-paying member at DL and clear your Cookies, you will also clear your Reputation Karma, and won't be able to post until after multiple visits across several days.

R18 is right on the money, my bad. Now it's clear he was talking about his history. Follow R18 OP.

Thank you - I cleared my history and it worked - but not just amazon, everything.
But there does not seem to be a "settings" anywhere in google chrome anymore. Everyone goes on about settings.
This is the problem - they always change these things.
Anyway, thank you for your advice and time.

Update your chrome browser, what version of Windows or Mac are you using? Here's a video of the latest Chrome on Windows 10. At the 1:09 mark you can see him pressing the three dots and rolling down settings.

No more three dots BUT a white arrow in a red circle.
Thanks again.

What is your MacOS? I'm using High Sierra with Chrome 70 and it looks exactly like the video R21. You should update your Chrome now.
