"Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" -- the Redgrave sisters remake

It's free on Amazon Prime right now, and it's surprisingly not too bad if you watch it as a reinterpretation of the original.

Lynn is Jane, updated to have been a child star in 1950s movies; Vanessa is Blanche, who seems to have been a star in 1960s "prestige" dramas. Both underplay their parts and go for a more naturalistic take. There's a nice scene at the beginning where they're temporarily getting along that adds a bit of depth.

The Victor Buono character becomes a video store clerk played by John Glover, and the maid becomes Blanche's male physical therapist. The role of the neighbors is wisely pared down and turned into a husband and wife rather than mother and daughter.

The bad: Lynn Redgrave's makeup isn't effective and the song that subs for "I've Written a Letter to Daddy" is weak.

Worth a watch if you're bored.

I’m waiting for the M and G remake.

Complete misfire.

I thought it was really bland. Diluting the gothic atmosphere and pure camp sucked the life right out of the story. The gimmick of having sisters play sisters fell fat too: the performances were underwhelming.
