Not impressed. I'd rather see the porn parody Poop Dreams 💩

I just saw this. It’s very good. Enjoy!

R1 Erna, we're not interested.

The supplements for this are great!

Both Arthur's father Bo and William's brother Curtis were shot and killed as illuminati blood sacrifices.

Roger Ebert called it the best film of the 1990s. And its snub at the Oscars was so egregious that the Academy changed their voting procedures for the category.

R5 Um, what? Don't bring that brand of crazy in here.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 11, 2018 6:22 AM |
R6 It really is a masterpiece.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 11, 2018 6:23 AM |
True, R6. Any discussion of the greatest documentaries of all time would have to include “Hoop Dreams.”

OP is Isiah Thomas
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 11, 2018 7:21 AM |
Agree OP this film got me started in my love for documentaries. Did they ever do a where are they now about the boys in it?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 11, 2018 7:24 AM |
R11 lol, wut?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 11, 2018 7:50 AM |
R11 Yes, they did. Haven't watched it yet but it's a supplement of the Criterion edition.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 11, 2018 7:59 AM |
It's too long. Never made it all the way through. Do they win the game?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 11, 2018 8:18 AM |
I've heard of it but it sounds too hetero for me. Not into sports.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 11, 2018 8:35 AM |
R15 Neither am I. It transcends sports.
Also, I just found out Curtis was shot to death a few years after the doc. That just moved me.
RIP Curtis.

Thanks. Criterion!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 11, 2018 12:17 PM |
It was very long. OP is still watching it.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 11, 2018 12:20 PM |
R19 Finished it hours ago.
The supplements, however...
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 11, 2018 12:26 PM |
Did you enjoy it?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 11, 2018 12:29 PM |
R21 very much so
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 11, 2018 12:30 PM |
OP. I'm not jealous as I saw it when it first came out and was bored out of my mind. Glad you enjoyed it though.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 11, 2018 12:56 PM |
Incredibly moving film to me. One of those few films about the 'american dream' that actually works.

Did a presentation in a sports sociology proseminar in university that dealt with it in a big part; Chris Webber and the other Fab Four were in it as well, or two of them, before they were famous, in that famous Allstar game for highschool students, we were still before the mobile and transparency era back in those days and having video footage from people before they were famous wasn't so common like nowadays, so it meant something to us. The one graduated from university, didn't get drafted, maybe also didn't enter the draft, Michael Jordan called him up and he practiced with him and the Bulls, when he came back to the NBA, the Bulls would have let William on the team but something like a walk-on or so, don't even know if they would have paid him something.
He worked as a plumber albeit his college degree and also as a preacher, moved back to Chicago, was still with his I think high-school girlfriend a few years ago, had four kids with her, the other one got an athletic scholarship later on as well, don't think he graduated though, he played for money later on as a streetballer, don't think in real teams, not in NBA either, lived in L.A.; both were point guards (by far the hardest position in basketball to make it), too short also for other positions in NBA, I think William was shooting guard in high school often, but too short for that in NBA and I guess a lot of college, so there weren't such big chances for him, besides all the knee stuff, he was more of a shooting guard, I think, and quite undersized for that for NBA, also already back in those days, and several other fields. The other guy had four kids by four women stand a few years ago. The two guys kept in touch.
