There will not be a blue wave; this is a blue tsunami!!

Almost tears at the number of people lined up around the block to vote. This will NOT be a blue wave. This is hurricane level blue that is going to knock down any wall and wash away all the homophobes, racists, misogynists and xenophobia along with it.

I am proud of all the voters out there. Is an indictment of Trump and we are not standing for it anymore!!!!

by Anonymousreply 77November 7, 2018 3:49 PM

Where did you vote, OP?

by Anonymousreply 1November 6, 2018 3:00 PM

My brother had the same experience when he went the first day for early voting in Houston. He actually had to leave and come back a few days later to vote because the place was packed.

by Anonymousreply 2November 6, 2018 3:02 PM

Hope so. Remember that sense of elation you had after you voted in 2016...

by Anonymousreply 3November 6, 2018 3:02 PM

OP confusing his NYC neighborhood with the rest of the country? I walked right in, no long lines at all as there were 2 years ago. I hope OP's right, though.

by Anonymousreply 4November 6, 2018 3:04 PM

Where are you? I hope it’s somewhere in Florida Texas or Arizona and not NYC.

by Anonymousreply 5November 6, 2018 3:05 PM

I hope so too. First time I've had to stand in line in a midterm election. I'm in suburban Massachusetts so not sure if that means much on a national level though.

by Anonymousreply 6November 6, 2018 3:06 PM

I am cautiously optimist.

Very cautious.

by Anonymousreply 7November 6, 2018 3:07 PM

It's raining here. I look at it as a cleansing, just like when we first voted for Obama

by Anonymousreply 8November 6, 2018 3:09 PM

We can only hope you are right, OP!

by Anonymousreply 9November 6, 2018 3:09 PM

Vermont, R5.

by Anonymousreply 10November 6, 2018 3:10 PM

I am cautiously suspicious.

Very cautious.

And very, very suspicious.

by Anonymousreply 11November 6, 2018 3:11 PM

My partner and both voted early (but at different times of the day) and there was a wait for us both.

Praying that the people were there, voting blue, but...we'll see by tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 12November 6, 2018 3:17 PM

If Beto wins, it's going to show that current polling methods for new voters isn't good enough. The people who vote for him don't have landlines at all and they need to find some better method for polling them.

Brand new voters don't fall into likely voter categories.

We may be watching a whole new frontier with tonights results. Or, it could be the same old crap.

There have been a number of articles in recent months showing that senior citizens are moving towards voting Democratic, for their own best interests. If that plays out in this election, the most reliable block of voters, it will be a very important game changer.

by Anonymousreply 13November 6, 2018 3:24 PM

We'll see about that OP, we'll see. It's going to be a long night here.

by Anonymousreply 14November 6, 2018 3:27 PM

Hope you are right, but how do you know who they are voting for?

by Anonymousreply 15November 6, 2018 3:29 PM

I hope you’re right but I was very surprised and worried to see at a heavily minority polling place this morning almost no one, and this is for a senate race that has turned into an issue in a blue state that is going to have a major impact on today’s outcome. If the minority vote in this area is depressed, it could be bad news. I think the senator will win his seat and that this state will deliver where it needs to, but it worries me that if minority voters like Latinos and African Americans are not motivated here, it could be a major issue elsewhere. We need the minorities and youth to come out. If they can’t be motivated during this election, it’s never going to happen.

by Anonymousreply 16November 6, 2018 3:33 PM

I am at 51st and 9th ave Manhattan

by Anonymousreply 17November 6, 2018 3:33 PM

Oh honey, it doesn’t get more bubble-y than Hell’s Kitchen. Your turnout isn’t indicative of anything nationally.

by Anonymousreply 18November 6, 2018 3:36 PM

I’m in Philadelphia, in Queen Village and there was a huge crowd at my voting place. Bigger than any off year election I’ve ever seen. People were energized and pissed!

by Anonymousreply 19November 6, 2018 3:36 PM

OP, there were long lines when I voted in 2016 and we know what happened. Long lines are not indicative of a democratic win overall given that most of the long lines are in [urban] areas where the dems can expect to win easily. I'm being super pessimistic to guard myself for a possible disappointment. In 2016, I felt dead inside like someone close to me had died for a week afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 20November 6, 2018 3:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 22November 6, 2018 3:46 PM

This is the real OP here (R17 is NOT me), but he was close. I am in Hell’s Kitchen, but at 40/9 not 51/9.

by Anonymousreply 23November 6, 2018 3:47 PM

Let's not get too over confident...we know what happened when we did it in 2016

by Anonymousreply 24November 6, 2018 3:48 PM

I’m in the real, OP, and, I’m in Chicago.

by Anonymousreply 25November 6, 2018 3:49 PM

I’m with you R20. I won’t go through what I did in 2016. If it looks even remotely bad early on, I will not watch or read anything for at least a week. My husband and I will then start seriously considering a planned exit from the country.

by Anonymousreply 26November 6, 2018 3:49 PM

I hope so OP

I think there are a lot of people who, though they might not admit it, voted for Trump in 2016 because they hated Hillary Clinton and what they felt was her entitled attitude and (mostly) because they thought Trump was acting like.a clown to get elected and assumed he'd clean up his act once he was in office.

Boy were they wrong and they're disgusted that he took them for fools, that he's brought America to this low, low place. They get that the difference between Trump and Hitler is that at least Hitler actually believed in the crap he said.

So I'm hoping that lots of them--mostly educated professional women--are going to get out there today and defeat the likes of Marsha Braeburn (sp?), Ted Cruz and Steve King.

by Anonymousreply 27November 6, 2018 3:55 PM

Fortunately biggest lines ever to vote - waited an hour outside in pouring rain. Unfortunately it’s NYC. So while it gives me a warm glow, i know it is irrelevant to the national scene. I just hope the poor and minorities in TX and FL get out to vote. Crazy that our way of life is threatened and those with the most to lose won’t vote. (Though I know it’s much more difficult for a single parent without a car working 2 jobs to spend hours waiting to vote).

by Anonymousreply 28November 6, 2018 3:57 PM

I so wish you weren't gaslighting us OP, but I"m so sure you are....

by Anonymousreply 29November 6, 2018 3:58 PM

My boss just sent her housekeeper and her family (10) to vote and told her she could take the rest of the day off if she provided proof.

The housekeeper just sent her a pic of the entire family with "I voted" stickers.

They are Puerto Rican and this is in a red suburb of Miami.

by Anonymousreply 30November 6, 2018 4:01 PM

I live Trumpville Michigan—lots of people this morning. Too me an hour at 8:30am.

by Anonymousreply 31November 6, 2018 4:04 PM

Seeing all these stories about lines, I'm remembering one of the first times I voted in my Westchester (NYC suburb) hometown. Lots of overprivileged yoga moms and Wall Street dads. There was, maybe, a 10-15 minute wait and man were they incensed. "Why aren't there more voting booths!" "Why don't they have more people working here!" "They should have signs to tell you which line to go on! Why don't you have signs!"

The poor election workers were all over 70 and were indeed totally inefficient, but at the time I took it as being such a perfect illustration of what the people in my town were like.

by Anonymousreply 32November 6, 2018 4:11 PM

R26 My husband is Canadian so we've decided that if the dems no not take the house, we're moving to Toronto in 2019.

by Anonymousreply 33November 6, 2018 4:17 PM

I’m in GA. I’ve spent most of the day talking to different people.

Here’s my takeaway: Almost of white men and women over the age of 55 have already voted via early mail in ballots, or via early voting stations. Most white women under the age of 55 have either voted early, or are voting today. Most white men from 55 to 30, have already voted, or are voting today. Most white men under the age 30, are voting today, or not voting.

Most black women from 60 to 18, are voting today, or have already voted. Most black men from 60 to 55 are voting today, or have already voted. Most black men from 55 on down to 18 are voting today, or not voting. Black men particularly from 35 to 18, are not voting.

Chatham and Bulloch Counties, FYI.

by Anonymousreply 34November 6, 2018 5:57 PM

R13 is rational and wise.

by Anonymousreply 35November 6, 2018 5:58 PM

I hope and pray you're right OP, but how do you know all those people lined up are voting democrat?

by Anonymousreply 36November 6, 2018 6:10 PM

Exactly R34. Millennials are bitching and virtue-signaling and liking Twitter feeds - but can’t get off their ass and put in the work of waiting for 2 hours to vote. Though in PA, my district has a lot of young white male deplorables - so not too concerned about them not turning out.

by Anonymousreply 37November 6, 2018 6:10 PM

I think it’s hilarious that this thread turned into the DL version of To Tell the Truth. I’m the OP and I voted in Hell’s Kitchen - in a stuttering voice. . No I am the OP and I voted in Hell’s Kitchen - in a mousy voice. No I am the OP and I voted in Hell’s Kitchen - in a basso prufndo.. Is Peggy Cass here to decide?

by Anonymousreply 39November 6, 2018 6:48 PM

Thank you for sharing r39.

by Anonymousreply 40November 6, 2018 6:49 PM

R39 Peggy Cass has been gone for a while but she was a friend of my mother. When you speak of her, and you will, please be kind.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but have no idea if polling works any more, whether because the pollsters are unable to reach representative samples and not just mobile phone users as opposed to landlines (I mean, I have both but don't answer either unless I recognize the caller because so many calls are spam) or because people either flat out lie for fear of expressing what some may think are unpopular opinions versus people who just want to fuck with the pollsters and give them total bullshit answers.

I think Beto will win. Cruz depressed his own turnout via his personality and Trump essentially cucked him before.

by Anonymousreply 41November 6, 2018 8:32 PM

[Quote]but can’t get off their ass and put in the work of waiting for 2 hours to vote.

No one should have to wait 2 hours to vote, our system is broken that this happens.

by Anonymousreply 42November 6, 2018 8:35 PM

I live in a blue state (only because of it's major city) but very red neighborhood. I went to vote earlier this morning and it wasn't packed at all, which hopefully means those MAGAt's decided the lines weren't worth it. There were bigger lines in 2016, though hard to know if more didn't decide to absentee vote this time.

by Anonymousreply 43November 6, 2018 8:41 PM

If Beto wins the big story will be on the ad/marketing front.

Team Beto poured all their money into FB and other digital/social media, not a lot of TV.

by Anonymousreply 44November 6, 2018 8:49 PM

R28 As I said in another thread, the cold truth is many AAs do not feel like they have a lot to lose. Things don't change much at all for the most downtrodden of our citizens regardless of which party is in power.

Data Loungers are high minded intellectuals who care very much about gay rights, women's right to choose, immigration and similar issues.

Frankly, those are not issues which resonate with AAs. Don't expect them to rally 'round the same old same old.

by Anonymousreply 45November 6, 2018 8:56 PM

I don't understand that r45. Young black men will line up around the block to buy the latest iPhone or Nikes. How do they not understand that having a black female Governor will impact their lives.

by Anonymousreply 46November 6, 2018 9:49 PM

R46, no one stands in line for Nikes. They order them online. Same with iPhones.

by Anonymousreply 47November 6, 2018 10:03 PM

The exit polling must be showing a strong Democratic turnout and vote as the tone of the cable talking heads is going towards how the GOP screwed up messaging with Trump....

by Anonymousreply 48November 6, 2018 10:15 PM

Watch this old lady in El Paso who went to vote for Beto. Make sure you have some kleenex handy.

by Anonymousreply 49November 6, 2018 10:28 PM

A Beto win would be wonderful but I'm not holding my breath. Realistically, my instincts tell me that an early turn-out favors Democrats for the house. I'm holding out a bit of hope for the senate. But please, please, please, don't let us lose the house. It might feel even worse than 2016,

by Anonymousreply 50November 6, 2018 10:48 PM

[quote]Peggy Cass has been gone for a while but she was a friend of my mother. When you speak of her, and you will, please be kind.

also, I have never seen another Vermonter on here r10!

by Anonymousreply 58November 6, 2018 11:54 PM

I saw a lot of older people who could barely move or operate the voting machine at the poll to support Trump.

by Anonymousreply 59November 7, 2018 12:18 AM

I took our elderly neighbors to the polls this evening. Three wonderful, little old white gals. They hate 45 as much as I do and I was proud to help them vote straight blue.

by Anonymousreply 60November 7, 2018 12:38 AM

The biggest spike in election searches Tuesday was for “dónde votar”

Google said as the midterm elections were underway on Tuesday that searches of where to vote in Spanish surged by 3,350 percent, making it the top trending search on the platform. For comparison, searches for “who to vote for today” spiked by 1,350 percent, and “voter turnout today” jumped 450 percent.

by Anonymousreply 63November 7, 2018 12:56 AM

No, R62. I fugured the crazy ones who would do that are probably waiting to see if 'their side' won, so they can brag on-line and troll people. If 'their side' loses, then they'll decide it's time to go off and try to rob others of their lives and loved ones.

Honestly, any person who ends up shooting at or killing people nowadays ends up reflecting an entire party. Fair or not, that's how it is now.

by Anonymousreply 64November 7, 2018 12:56 AM

R62, I hate to even ponder this, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we have another shooting in the next few weeks, regardless of who takes the House or Senate, but especially if the Dems take one or both.

It’s really freakin’ sad that these things are becoming pretty predictable now.

What exactly are these Proud Boys proud of??? It’s not like they had a say in their place of birth, race, or gender. How can one be proud of something that they had nothing to do with? Do these dumb fucks actually understand that being born as a white male, in the United States, is NOT an actual accomplishment???

JFC, people are so stupid.

Oh, and I’m obviously much brighter than these idiots. Guess what? I’m not “proud” of that, because I had no choice regarding my intelligence quotient. Yes, I am delighted when things go well in my life, due to the ability to think well, however, I had nothing to do with the genes I inherited!!!

by Anonymousreply 68November 7, 2018 2:35 AM

I like your insight, R13. Good points you make.

by Anonymousreply 69November 7, 2018 3:10 AM

R68 Perhaps you are too young to remember a very important anthem of the Civil Rights era:

"Say it loud! I'm black and I'm proud!" James Brown

I am guessing that they are proud in that same way?

by Anonymousreply 70November 7, 2018 5:19 AM

R70 That pride comes as a result of facing and overcoming grueling social and economic adversities, same as gay pride.

What exactly are the grueling adversities experienced by these entitled babies other than "I'm angry that someone somewhere might be getting something that I think they don't deserve"?

by Anonymousreply 71November 7, 2018 6:26 AM

Barely a wave in the house and no wave in the senate.

by Anonymousreply 72November 7, 2018 9:20 AM

Despite all the gerrymandering, R72? This is a fucking wave.

by Anonymousreply 73November 7, 2018 9:48 AM

I wouldn’t call it a wave, but we got the fucking House back and took several governorships which will seriously help with redistricting in 2020.

THANK FUCKING GOD.

The wave happened........the Dem's lost three trophy races (FL-Governor/FL-Senate/TX-Senate) but the gross numbers in the House and state races brought in new Democratic controls.

by Anonymousreply 76November 7, 2018 3:17 PM

R76 The Florida losses to me were a bigger disappointment than Texas where I didn't doubt Cruz would still win. The good news is, I think Beto is now a serious contender (if not the front runner) for the democratic ticket in 2020. The fact that he got so close to winning Texas is really a sign that he has mass appeal.
