Why was there such a disparity in time lines in The Waltons?
At the start of the series it was the early 1930s John Boy was about16. The last TV movie is set in 1969 and he's about to become a dad for the first time and looks early 30s.
Olivia looks younger in the later movies than she did at the start thanks to Michael Learned's surgeon.
John Snr had gone grey in one movie then back to dark hair later on. Did Ike Godsey stock Just For Men?
Was it something in the water on Walton's mountain?!
And how did that annoying little shite Elizabeth afford to travel the world for years?
You think they could try to make it more believable and consistent.
And recast that fugly Jim Bob, atrocious actor.

In his younger days, by his own admission, Ralph Waite was a hustler to pay the bills.

I remember the grandmother character being such a miserable old grouch, in fact, most of the Waltons were rather unlikable.

Granny was cranky but well meaning.
Ben was a douchebag
Elizabeth was a horrid, petulant minger
Jim Bob was as bright as a turd
John boy was a cloying, ass kidding, bossy, stuck up twat
Ike Godsey was a spineless dishcloth

The producers hopped on the whole time travel reboot bandwagon to the point where they proposed doing a futuristic animated series called The Waltons on the Dark Side of the Moon.

They wanted to show that 1960s counter-culture had not destroyed their wholesome Ness.

In real life, Grandma — Ellen Corby — was a lesbian who disliked the sweet grandma kitsch and Grandpa — Will Greer — was about as far left as you could go. He would describe himself as “the world’s oldest hippie” and wa friends with Pete Seeger and progressives of the time.

Grandpa was also gay as a goose.

Will Geer was close friends with Harry Hay and other leaders of The Mattachine Society.
Ralph Waite was hot as fuck. I wanted to suck off Daddy Walton and rub my fingers through his chest fur.

John Boy, Mary Ellen and Jason were all good looking when older. Erin was OK. The other 3 were horrid.
