I mean no one knows who the hell she is (outside of New York).
So why would Good Seasons hire her as their pitch-woman?

She's Italian!! They're known for eating well.

Eldergays' worrisome use of present tenses.

Anna is 82 years old. Haven't seen her around in years. She was so charming.

Anna Maria Alberghetti in a taxi, honey!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 3, 2018 6:25 PM |
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Anna Maria Alberghetti.
Anna Maria Alberghetti who?
Anna Maria Alberghetti in a taxi, honey…

Roman Polanski robbed her of her big moment
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 3, 2018 6:27 PM |
Well, that was easy.
Who fronted their French dressing, Brigitte Bardot?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 3, 2018 6:27 PM |
For the same reason(s) Alberto VO5 chose Rula Lenska as their spokesperson.

She was a classically trained singer who transitioned to pop. Here's a novelty number she used to do.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 3, 2018 6:30 PM |
Good Season was some good shit too..
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 3, 2018 6:32 PM |
Everyone knows her from the OBCR or Carnival. Find me one gay man who has performed a manic mashup or Her Face/I Hate Him in the shower.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 3, 2018 6:34 PM |
I remember her from Aladdin, on DuPont Show of the Month in 1958.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 3, 2018 6:37 PM |
from the Chicago Tribune:
The early body microphones also presented their problems. According to Broadway legend, Anna Maria Alberghetti, star of the 1961 musical
'Carnival,' one night briefly left the stage and went to the bathroom with her sound system still turned on.

It's high time someone asked this question!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 3, 2018 7:39 PM |
Remember Ann Bylth was the Ding Dong Lady. This is before TCM and I didn’t know the one noteworthy film she did. Every now and then you hear her voice on TCM defending Joan over that Mommy Dearest thing.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 4, 2018 2:19 AM |
Because Sophia Loren was to expensive.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 4, 2018 2:45 AM |
This is off-prompt, but I used to LOVE "Good Seasons" homemade salad dressing...my Mom wasn't much of a "cook" and hated prepping meals, but during the summer we'd eat a bunch of fresh cucumbers from the garden and always with salad dressing from "Good Seasons" we'd make with vinegar and water/oil and those little paper packets we'd rip open.
I should buy some of that ...I wonder if it'd taste the same like I remember?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 4, 2018 2:50 AM |
In this commercial they have to refer to her as "Good Seasons" Lady
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 4, 2018 2:50 AM |
She was no Connie Francis.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 4, 2018 3:15 AM |
Anna Maria was hawking "Good Seasons" since the 1970s
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 4, 2018 3:34 AM |
I always confused her with Annette Funicello.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 4, 2018 3:37 AM |
r18 I am pleased to report that it really does taste the same! I add a bit more vinegar than the instructions call for, and it is exactly how I remember it growing up. It's a guilty pleasure for me. If you make it, don't get all fancy and use olive oil. You will ruin it. It has to be plain vegetable oil.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 4, 2018 3:39 AM |
R24 this thread actually inspired you to go to the store and buy Good Seasons and whip it up at home?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 4, 2018 3:40 AM |
R25 I make it once a month or so. AND I AM NOT ASHAMED!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 4, 2018 3:44 AM |
She also did photography and published at least one book of photographs.
Haven't thought about her or Good Seasons in years. Good Seasons emphasized being "fresh", compared to bottled dressings.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 4, 2018 3:44 AM |
Ha, OP, thanks for the trip down Memory Lane. As a wee tot I actually learned the word [italic]cruet[/italic] from AMA's Good Seasons commercials!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 4, 2018 4:28 AM |
Was "Anna Maria Alberghetti in a taxi, honey" a line from an actual song, or did the MTM show make it up as part of Ted Baxter's joke?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 4, 2018 5:03 AM |
I think they chose her because Alberghetti rhymes with spaghetti, and makes you think of Italian food and salad.
I still use Good Seasons. I use olive oil, (less than they say), and a mix of balsamic and cider vinegars. People love it and think I've got an amazing secret recipe. I've had people ask me to make them some to take home.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 4, 2018 5:17 AM |
The CRUETS had little measuring lines on them marked "O" (oil) "V" (vinegar) and "W" (water), so you couldn't go wrong.
It did taste good and more fresh than bottled Italian dressing, the way ranch dressing powder made with buttermilk tasted better than the bottled version.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 4, 2018 5:32 AM |
You'd be surprised how many people thought AMA was the original Maria on Broadway. When you say Carol Lawrence, they used to laugh.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 4, 2018 6:18 AM |
She was legendary on Broadway for her Tony-award winning performance in "Carnival!"
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 4, 2018 6:27 AM |
I didn't grow up in the NYC area but knew who she was from game shows. I think she must've been on Match Game and/or Password a few times. I remember the hosts always made a big deal out of her.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 4, 2018 6:29 AM |
Had no idea she was a person. I thought Ted Baxter made her up.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 4, 2018 11:05 AM |
I grew up in North Jersey. Is that why I know who she is?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 4, 2018 11:06 AM |
R28 She looks like she's had a stroke.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 4, 2018 11:22 AM |
I grew up watching these commercials in NYC and had no idea she was a famous person.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 4, 2018 11:33 AM |
R32, Ted's line is a pun on the first line from a song called "The Darktown Strutters' Ball," which goes
"I'll be down to get you in a taxi, honey."
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 4, 2018 11:36 AM |
R42. Thank you. That's obscure. Leave it to the MTM writers.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 4, 2018 6:52 PM |
And thank you, R43, too.

She sand one of my favorite Christmas songs from my childhood. She had a sweet voice.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 4, 2018 9:12 PM |
My mother would make Good Seasons sometimes for fancy dressing.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 4, 2018 9:15 PM |
Now I want to try it! I don't usually like bottled or packaged dressings -- there always seems to be the same chemical-y flavor in the background, and the texture is always fake-thickened & cornstarch-y. But I'm sure the good people at Good Seasons found a way around those typical problems...
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 4, 2018 9:24 PM |
I freaking LOVE Good Seasons dressing. It's my favorite over any I've ever tasted.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 4, 2018 9:47 PM |
I was going to mention Florence Henderson (Carol Brady) as spokesperson for Wesson oil, but someone beat me to it. The combo does seem random. Maybe it was just Italian actress / Italian salad dressing.
That being said, that Good Seasons dressing with the cruet was a taste sensation compared to the bottled dressings of that time.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 4, 2018 10:04 PM |
Her name sounds fictional, like someone's made-up alias.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 4, 2018 10:31 PM |
I think my mom used Seven Seas ( "who made the salad?") as well yes the fresh taste was a fond childhood memory -- and as for being obscure, both Anna Maria and the Darktown Strutters Ball were common cultural knowledge by American adults in the1970s

Sophia was busy selling ham.

"Alberghetti" means inns, or small hotels, in Italian.

R18, Here ---I bought a pack of classic "GOOD SEASONS" Italian dressing mix, and tried it this afternoon on some cucumbers and ...it tasted great! Just like how I remember it as a kid. Many thanks again for starting this thread OP, and to everybody who posted too. It's been memory lane blast-from-the past trip~!
by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 5, 2018 9:39 AM |
Did you use EVOO, r61?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 5, 2018 9:41 AM |
How odd,, I was just talking about these "dressing sachets" with my mum, explaining them. I have tried a Jewel store brand version. I was rather curious about them, as I didn't grow up here. I'm not convinced one needs to add the water portion though. This thread is yet another example to convince me of Jung's "Collective Unconscious" or something of the sort; these dressings were in the ether yesterday.

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
