Pati Jinich:
I've wanted to start a thread about Pati for a while now, but wasn't sure if enough people knew about her to get any responses. She's had a PBS cooking show that's in its 7th season (Pati's Mexican Table) but I never seemed to hear much about here. Her Twitter presence is growing and this week she had a profile in the NYT.
Her demeanor is unusual for a cooking show -- she seems genuinely sweetly innocent and wide-eyed -- and honestly I'm not sure about her actual cooking skills, but I really enjoy watching her. The location stuff through Mexico is well done, but when she's brings what she's learned back to her home kitchen, that's when the gay appeal begins.
She's got camp appeal for sure -- her personal style, her gay friend, her three sons (poor forgotten middle child, Sami, is a total Jan) who she mists up at every time she mentions, and invisible husband, Daniel. Most episodes of the show include a quick ode to her blender, which she loves dearly. Also: the show's theme song is an earworm
I poke fun, but just with affection. She's very endearing. Like a guileless Sandra Lee, but with better bona fides.

I adore her! I particularly enjoy the location pieces, and her love for Mexico really comes through. She's a wonderful ambassador.

I LOVE her as well.
But as for her mystery husband Daniel, is he a descendant of some Croatian Nazi who fled Europe after WW2?
Jinich is a Spanish phonetic spelling of Jinic, a classical Jugoslavian name and primarily Croat.
I watch her show for real Mexican cooking as opposed to the Mexi-fan Rick Bayless.
She is so adorable.

A nice Jewish girl from Mexico City. I love her and told my partner "I need a blender like Pati has in order to make all her wonderful dishes"! I used to walk right by the Mexican produce aisle at grocery store not knowing wtf all the items were used for. Now I do!

Her gay friend is Joe Yonan, who is the food and dining editor at Washington Post.

Her food is fairly authentic Mexican home cooking and my partner and I have tried some of her recipes which turned out great. I mean, if you go to Mexico and stay with local people, that's the kind of food the lady of the house would be serving to her guests.

I, always, assume skinny women who cook a lot have serious eating disorders.

R7, except when they cook for a family.

r9, no, then, too.
I was acquainted with a woman who could not have weighed more than 85lbs and who was the live-in caretaker for a man with a severe spinal disease. He had been wheelchair bound most of his life and was in perpetual physical agony and needed a lot of help to just survive. His caretaker made all his meals, amongst other things, and was very, very focused on him getting proper nutrition. She cooked elaborately. He and I were outside having a beer and smoke at one point while a small party was going on in the house and he mentioned to me that he'd actually never seen her eat anything. Like nothing. In the two years she'd been more or less living there full time and cooking three or more meals a day for him.

Can't stand her thick accent. Won't watch because if it.
It's as bad as the "Mum" dramedy on PBS. Won't watch that heavily accented show either.

I would like her show much more if she just didn't speak. That accent (which I believe she's exaggerating) is like fingernails on a chalk board to me.

She is like a Mexican Tinkerbell.

Her grandparents were refugees to Mexico from Eastern Europe. It's quite amazing her accent is as thick as it is.

Then Pati's children have Nazis on both sides of the family?

The accent is mildly annoying indeed, but i find her nasally soprano sing-song the chalk board scratcher.

Isn't her husband (or wasn't he at one time) some kind of ACTUAL ambassador? Or at least a high-level diplomat who was posted to DC?

Dang I love me some Pati! This recipe of hers is on regular rotation at my house (I use all chicken thighs though)

But her voice (whether you blame it on the accent or the singsonginess)!!! I can't get past a minute. I wish I could, as I love Mexican food and find Bayless so offputting.

Jeez -- if you have trouble with her voice/accent, just turn down the volume and put on the closed-captioning.

I'm sure at least one of her sons is gay

Enough with the Nazi allegations. Both sides of her family, as well as her husband's family are respectable Jews. No Nazi-Croatian-Yugoslav anything.

She talks like this is a video teaching people to speak english. Or it's like she's speaking to children. It's so annoying.

She's cute but dear God her mouth is like 6" wide. That little woman can swallow a whole massive slice of cake in one bite.

I love Pati, I prefer her recipes to those from Rick Bayless.
