But remember, guys - party unity!
You HAVE to stand up for the establishment candidate.
But if the party puts forth a left-wing candidate, it's fine if you'd rather support a Republican.

The OP is spouting Russian talking points nonsense here, somehow blaming Democrats' librulzm for this situation.
Maryland likes their Republican governor because he is moderate, solves problems, and is cooperative with members of all political parties. This is an exception to what is going on in most states.
You know what to do. FF the Russian bot.

r1 Of course I'm blaming Democrats if Democrats are supporting a Republican and marginalizing their own candidate because he's not conservative enough, you piece of dumb trash.
The second a local moderate Republican goes national, he ditches the values that gave him prominence in his blue state. Just check Mitt Romney.
Supporting a moderate Republican is excusable if the alternative is a far-right one, but not when it's a left-wing progressive. The fact that this is what the Democrats are doing when the alternative is someone more liberal, only goes to show that Democrats are, indeed, just moderate Republicans and they're essentially one and the same.

Maryland is the state that kills kitty cats in the name of science. The governor has allowed this and Maryland Dems still want to vote for his ugly ass.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 9, 2018 10:49 PM |
What's your point R3? Cats can't vote!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 9, 2018 10:56 PM |
Nah, he's a governor. He only affects Maryland, he doesn't empower McConnell nationally. He isn't shifting Maryland rightward, and he isn't hurting anyone he's fine. I'm in new England where we regularly elect pro-gay, anti-racist GOP governors who do just fine. We would never be caught dead electing a GOP senator or congressman though

Shut your mouth! I have an adorable kitten! I'd never harm her or let her be used for testing! She's a bombay

Maryland's general assembly is controlled by the Democrats, so Hogan's power is limited. And yes he speaks a very moderate game, and is presiding over a state that has been doing quite well economically. That is why he remains popular.
Maryland is still very blue, very blue Massachusetts also has a Republican governor. Local politics isn't the same as national politics. People are willing to vote a Republican when they don't see them as part as the craziness that is going on in DC.
That said, I'm still voting for Ben Jealous
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 9, 2018 11:30 PM |
No wonder elected democrats cross party lines and vote with the republicans.

Just curious. Who do the other 65% support?

Maryland is such a mess, people will turn to anyone for help.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 10, 2018 12:03 AM |
A mess r12? Maryland is literally the state with the most millionaires per capita and the highest household income.
It has been doing quite great actually.

And lemme guess, you've never even been to Baltimore r14? Parts of Baltimore certainly do, parts of Baltimore are beautiful and wealthy.
Anyway, Baltimore city is just one place, not all of Maryland.

Maryland politics is remarkably corrupt. There's a damn good reason Republicans have made a lot of inroads - it's become the power of the Democratic party in most of the state stinks to high hell. With the exception of the Eastern Shore, Baltimore County and western Maryland - the Democrats have control of the state. In exchange, the residents of Maryland get the highest taxes in the region, shiteous schools (except for Montgomery County), crapulous government and horribly high insurance rates due to high crime. Don't drive in Maryland. The Insurance Institute rates it as one of the most dangerous states in America and the most dangerous on the eastern seaboard.
Since Spiro Agnew, multiple governors have been sent to prison (Illinois hasn't got a thing on Maryland). One of Maryland's recent governors, Parris Glendening, appointed *himself* to the Board of Regents to the University of Maryland system before leaving office so he has a lifetime appointed office a huge income, pension car and driver.
I'm just getting warmed up. In the DC suburbs, the FBI has arrested the county councils of multiple jurisdictions repeatedly for corruption including land flips between the members of the council to jack up property value before selling it to the county for public works projects in grossly inflated prices. A former member of Congress had five children out of wedlock by as many women - a Democrat. It's a sleazy pit of corruption.
Marylanders have begun splitting more of their vote because of corruption. That's the biggest threat to the Democratic party here. Flat out, old time sleaze.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 10, 2018 12:35 AM |
While you make some fair points r16, there has certainly been ton of corruption in Maryland (though honestly you'd be hard pressed to find places that wasn't true) you also go way into exaggeration.
[quote]Since Spiro Agnew, multiple governors have been sent to prison (Illinois hasn't got a thing on Maryland)
Things like this are just factually wrong. Four governors of Illinois have been sent to Prison. Only one governor from Maryland has been sent to prison, just Marvin Mandel. Many states, including Alabama of the top of my head, have a worst history of their governors getting charges.

Hogan was one of the first guvs to stand up to Trump and refuse to send our National Guard down to the Border for the Trump-Nielsen-Miller shitshow. He's OK.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 10, 2018 4:00 AM |
Ben Jealous, the Democratic candidate, is not white. That's why white Maryland Democrats are not going to vote for him.
