She made a big splash as a mermaid long before Daryl Hannah.

My opinion of her skyrocketed when she made "Superstar" with Molly Shannon.

Her short-lived sitcom, where she starred opposite hunky Keith Andes.

Why won't someone post something about The Chapman Report?

Love her voice, had no idea she was still alive. Some of her British b/w films are on youtube..

She has dementia now

Was she in the Chapman Report?

I suppose it's nice someone is remembering her.
I think it was rude of her nursing home to use her in their advertisements— because she was probably too gaga to realise what they were doing.

Glynis want one of the four British actresses with singular voices. The others were Audrey Hepburn, Fenella Fielding and Joan Greenwood.
Some people found them 'husky', over-musical, constricted, affected.
Joan, of course, was my favourite of the four.

This movie was Glynis at her worst.
She was being presented as a sex-kitten/comedienne being pursued by 3 men.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 6, 2018 8:09 AM |
What if Glynis had played Mary Poppins instead of Julie Andrews? Would the movie still have been a hit?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 6, 2018 8:31 AM |
Glynis appeared in bustier swimsuits in the mid 50s but she was 41 in '64.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 6, 2018 8:38 AM |
She was a racist.

Who told you that, R27?
Do you believe she committed miscegenation with a nautical mammal?

Always liked her, especially as a fearless old bitch in "The Ref".

Her best film: No Highway in the Sky. Very underappreciated.

She would be underappreciated in that particular film because Marlene demanded to hog the camera.
Her first adult film 'Miranda' in 1948 was an excellent vehicle.
She was in a better, more amusing film called 'The Card' (aka 'The Promoter') in 1952 where she played an absolute bitch to Alec Guinness.
She was a good support to Danny Kaye in 'The Court Jester' (1956). And she starred in the 'The Cabinet of Caligari' (1962) though it failed to capitalise on her strange husky quality.

She was impeccable as Diane Chambers’ mother on Cheers.

I guess Sister Suffragette was in MP because she had it in her contract she would get a song that could not be cut. She learned this from one of her closest friends Cyril. She said she wanted to cut her throat when SUGAR closed down the block at the Majestic. Still SS was better than any new piece of Broadway musical time wasting song they would come up with. You've got to give it to juke box musicals the songs are always better than anything a musical composer could write today.

All I knew of her work were "Send in the Clowns" and the Glynis TV programme.

R33 Was Cyril another of her homosexual close friends?
(I don't know about her US stage career. I'd heard Cyril married a WOMAN decades before!)

And Glynis was no fool. Reportedly, as salary for her participation on the MP soundtrack album, she negotiated for a percentage of the sales. She ended up making considerably more from that, since the album became an enormous bestseller.
