These little things may underwhelm R5, but for a great many of us, they are what's keeping us sane and functional through the hellish dystopia of current American life. So suck it, R5.

I enjoy sitting in the middle when I'm with my parents. When I was young and we would go out sporting events, my dad would always ask if I wanted to sit in between him and my mother. He turned it into a special treat. Years later, we recently attended a basketball game. I went outside to purchase some food and beer. We had the last 3 seats in the row. When I came back, I plopped down alongside my mom, my dad on her other side. Dad leans over and whispers, "do you want to sit in the middle?" I must have looked like drunk as I scampered over my mom's lap to get in between them, but it certainly brought back memories of being 3 years-old, potected on both sides by my mom and dad, my idols.

"Peruse" is one of the most misused words in the English language, because most people use the word to mean an almost opposite form, as in saying something akin to "scan".
From thesaurus.com PERUSE: read (something), typically in a thorough or careful way. "he has spent countless hours in libraries perusing art history books and catalogues" and examine carefully or at length. "Laura perused a Caravaggio"
Don't get me started on on "disinterested" vs. "uninterested".

When it starts getting chilly in the fall, I put one of these electric heaters in my bathroom next to the shower and hang my towels over the heater while I shower. When I finish showering, I pull the towels off of the heater and they are toasty warm, just like they would be if they came straight from the dryer.
You can't imagine how luxurious a toasty warm towel feels on a chilly morning.
No I am not going to burn the house down, the towels get no warmer than they do in the dryer and I have been doing this for years. Yes I know they make towel warmers but all the ones I have seen cost more than this heater. This also warms up the bathroom a bit.

Most like weekend plans in place...I adore having a day in which I have not a single obligation...no appts, work, errands, emails, calls, no alarm, nor set bedtime. also, now shopping or housework....just free. . Completely empty day and I do whatever I want. Phone off too. Don’t check news or weather reports. I may nap with my little doggy, read, surf net, watch old movie. doesn’t matter WHAT I do, I don’t have to fulfill anyone’s needs or consider feelings, talk, etc. May seem boring to others but I love the freedom!

Please think about getting some help, R160. I hope you have someone or something to live for; if not, try to find one. People care--I do, truly, and obviously I don't even know you. We're living through very difficult times--finding someone to talk about them with might make all the difference. I bet you'd even be helping them as well.

After much research, a few years ago I finally found the bed pillow of my dreams. The BioSence pillow by Brookstone. Bought it at Bed Bath Beyond. It's like a firm, loving, soft rock. It's back it up with another pillow (also from BBB) which is a 'miracle bamboo' pillow of some sort. tbh I have six pillows on my bed and they're all different, but it's the Brookstone for the win. Pair them with Macy's 100% cotton Hotel sheets for a double win.

Having a dog is nice. You don't have to pat yourself on the back every time you mention it. It's unattractive and unnecessary virtue signalling. I'm sure that everyone who knows you already knows you have a rescue dog.
by Anonymous | reply 194 | October 30, 2018 4:32 AM |
I used to refer to my beloved dog as orphan boy, or orphan dog, as he was a stray found by a friend. Do you find the sound of that troubling as well R194? I feel this "virtue-signaling" accusatory crap is getting a bit tired on DL.
by Anonymous | reply 195 | October 30, 2018 4:36 AM |
Seriously. Can't you just say "my dog"?
by Anonymous | reply 196 | October 30, 2018 4:41 AM |
More seriously, people ought to "signal" more virtue, as this world could clearly benefit from it. I loathe the term. You can signal all the non-virtue you want by using tired right-wing newspeak, you're not doing the world any favours. You're taking the joy from the thread too. I enjoyed R193's post. R194, not at all.

by Anonymous | reply 199 | October 30, 2018 4:54 AM |
Calling your dog "my rescue dog" instead of just "my dog" isn't some kind of cliche? If you adopt a child, do you refer to him ever after as "my adopted son" instead of just "my son"? Perspicate this, bitch.

by Anonymous | reply 201 | October 30, 2018 5:00 AM |
Thanks R196. I'm so tired of virtue signalling, I don't think the world needs more of it. I'm inclined to think we need a lot less of it. Anyone reading R199 would be quite sure we need less of that cunty nonsense.
I felt bad for VP Biden when he got a gorgeous German Shepherd puppy and he was absolutely head over heels in love with that dog. That's the breed I was raised with and they are wonderful companions. People lost their fucking minds over him getting the breed of dog he wanted instead of a rescue dog. The poor guy actually went to a shelter and got a second dog just to make them shut the fuck up and stop attacking him.
R-whatever, you have a dog. He/she (probably she) is your dog, just your dog, and should be referred to as your dog without the modifier of being rescued. Otherwise, people might get the wrong impression and take you for shallow, virtue-signalling, attention-seeking, approval-seeking, smug cunt instead of someone who happens to love her dog.

by Anonymous | reply 203 | October 30, 2018 5:05 AM |
I was going to write something more twee, but eh, the truth is I LOVE the feeling after waking up from a night of lazy oversleeping, making a strong cup of coffee, having a long cigarette break on my balcony and then, after that's finished, immediately heading to the restroom to take a giant dump.
On a more spiritual level, when I get the chance to secure psychedelic drugs, I love tripping by myself. I've never had a bad trip or felt like I needed someone to be with me as a trip sitter. There's something so viscerally exhilarating of tripping balls completely alone.

Yes, it is, r232. It's $15.95/lb. if you order from Peet's, but I usually buy the 20 oz. bag at the supermarket for $12.99 when it's on sale (or $6.99 for 12 oz.)

r234, I don't usually drink medium roast, but I like Starbucks' Pike Place Blend. Note that I only drink it at home, not in stores, and I don't have "ewww...burnt" issues, perhaps as a result.
However, I do love the Peet's dark roast coffees, so I'd first be inclined to try one of their medium roasts. The only name I recognize from the supermarket is Brazil Minas Naturais, but I've never had a bad coffee from Peet's.

Reading in bed at night with my (big) dog sleeping next to me, her head on a pillow and gently snoring. And then the cat joins in, on my other side. A peaceful kingdom!

I just posted this in the wrong thread - but anyway here goes (again):
The one thing I splurge / overpay for is a haircut. I've been going to the same person since 2006. Back then, she was the junior stylist - just having started. Cut to 2018 - she owns the salon! I know it's probably stupid to pay $60 for a haircut with tip (and that's the price she grandfathered me in on - she's more now), but it makes me happy. She's known me longer than half of my friends & heard every crazy story in my life for the past 12 years. When I lived in another state, I'd sometimes even wait with long / messy hair until I could come home and have her do it (though it wasn't always feasible ).

I like cooking for friends. I try to have people over a couple of times a month for casual gatherings. I've got a few simple specialties and I always do a first and second course and dessert. I've got some old china a friend gave me so always set a pretty table with real cloth napkins and flowers. I invite work friends, people I volunteer with, a couple of older people I know from a church group, friends from a writing group -- I like to mix it up and have different people come. Someone always brings wine. It's fun because so few people seem to entertain anymore and people always appreciate the chance to get out in a low-key way.

R278, I'm not as accomplished as you, but those sound delicious. I do soups, salads and pastas -- things that aren't going to be too expensive or time-consuming. Something typical for me would be some antipasto, a big bowl of salad, good Italian bread and pasta with a fresh marinara sauce. Sorbet with cookies for dessert. I'm part Italian so these are all easy for me.

I need to bring some "rescue trees" back to life.
by Anonymous | reply 286 | November 5, 2018 2:45 PM |
Oh, and I have to work on the "rescue soil" in the back since I'm SURROUNDED by idiots who have been brainwashed into thinking that a family unit isn't complete without a canine for no particular reason.
(Because rap / sports idiots told them to via social programming.)

Watching YouTube videos and listening to podcasts.

My partner's family lives in the Hudson Valley, NY - so whenever we are driving down, we take the Taconic Parkway (which is way prettier than the NY Thruway) and stop off in Rhinebeck or Red Hook for lunch - or just to walk around since both towns are so charming,
Last time we did this, we found the most delicious little sandwich place on a farm in an Airstream Trailer. So so good. They had little wood picnic tables set out with pumpkins everywhere. Was so beautiful. Check it out, if you're ever up in that region (see link).

R293, would you mind taking a moment to recommend your favorite podcasts? I'm always searching for good ones. If you'd include a brief description of each I'd be most appreciative.
Thanks!

I don't know if we have similar tastes in podcasts R295 but I can list a few, 1. My Favorite Murder: Two female comedians talk about true tales or murder. 2. Sawbones: A comedian and his wife who is a real doctor discuss weird medical treatments throughout history. 3. The Dork Forest: Comedian Jackie Kashan and her guest discuss that weeks guests favorite hobby/dorkdom. 4. Linoleum Knife: Gay movie critics(and husbands) Dave White and Alfonso Duralde talk movies. 5. Night of the Living Podcast: A group of horror movie loving friends talk movies and other spooky topics. I hope that helps R295

OP, I just got new salad plates to match the new dinner plates I got in August, to replace the set I first bought in 2005. At this rate, they may last the rest of my live. They are light, and pretty, so I am thrilled to have found them online. It’s a little thing but I like using them.

I got the replacement dinner plates over the summer. I just got the salad plates. That’s all I really need. They are light, which I like. They are the same as the set I bought about 2005. I got them from Replacements dot com. At this rate, maybe they will last till I check out, lol.

Small, faint sounds. Now that it's cooler and the furnace has come back to life, I can drift off to sleep quickly when I hear the slight hiss of the gas making its way through the burners, followed by the 'womp' of the jets igniting, and then about 20 seconds later, the revving of the motor as the fan comes on... pure bliss (sorry for the word hater at R98). The sounds of my rescue (sorry for the word hater at R194) dog as she rolls over in the middle of the night. Birds chirping at first light. Crickets in the middle of hot Summer nights. The football game hubby is watching in the other room... using his headphones because he knows I have extraordinarily good hearing.

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
