"Legal Tender" by The B-52's is one of my favorite videos, and is one of the first videos I saw on MTV.
It is one of the best uses of saturated color, quick edits and making the most of what was available in 1983.
Do you remember "Legal Tender"?

Did Kate or Cindy ever have any wig malfunctions?

It is my favorite B-52's song. It still holds up today.

actually the worst B52's song

Any B-52 song without Fred Schneider's honking vocals or dubious musical contributions is worthwhile. Someone should start a thread about most useless band member.

The B-52's were such an anomaly in music but they made everything work

They still sound good live.

Cindy and Kate sing harmony better than anyone. Their voices individually are fine but together, the sound is simply sublime.

Ohhhhhh it won't be long now

It really is one of their best songs.
Kate is the only one who really knows how to perform in a video though.

I really liked them up through the Bouncing Off The Satellites LP. After that...less so, but they were ok.

The period after their initial success and Love Shack is rife with great catchy tunes. One of my faves:

The B-52s had an irreverent quirky style, wit, southern charm, willingness to be silly, wholesomeness, and general lovability.
Qualities all sorely lacking in contemporary pop music!

"Legal Tender" was actually huge in Brazil for some reason and helped grow the B-52's fandom there, which is still going strong!

Loved that video and that album - I think I was like 12 and I became an instant lifelong B-52's fan without ever knowing they were almost all gay.
They were and are unique but always have an emphasis on FUN - never ever serious. That's what makes them so likable.

Got to see them at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium with a new band that had just had a big hit "Sweet Dreams" called Eurythmics.

Someone out there has the most incredible bootleg a/v footage of the B-52s performing in an Athens club circa 1978 right before they went national and blew the fucking world up. The amateurish video is in grainy black & white, taken in a small but packed house just before they were signed to a label. They were a struggling college band at the time but managed to attract a cultish local following. This is amazing footage of an iconic band on the precipice of superstardom.
Even early on, the now classic Rock Lobster was their signature song but no one outside of the GA college crowd ever heard it or anything like it. This early performance, probably pirated, is nothing short of sublime. Someone out there occasionally uploads it to YouTube under various names until it's quickly taken down for copyright infringement. Too bad because Fred is on fucking fire! That crazy skinny bitch sends the crowd into a frenzy. The girls are in their early stages of bouffant-ish fabulousness and working those wigs and their ethereal vocals. The band is pure intensity while retaining the tongue-in-cheek outrageousness and never taking themselves too seriously, or even remotely seriously at all.
They are quintessential 80s new age rock. I love them and everything about them and glad to see they're finally getting accolades for their important contributions to music history.

I’ve seen them twice in the last year. Most recently, 3 weeks ago.
