With respect to Nunes:
[quote]Nunes said “70 or 80 percent” of the transcripts weren’t classified, and that the transcripts that are would need to be cleared for release by the Director of National Intelligence.
Expect heavy redaction and cherry-picking.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 17, 2018 2:51 AM |
Gowdy has already demonstrated while chairing the Select Committee on Benghazi that he is willing to alter documents to gain political advantage. Gowdy made fake redactions to Clinton’s email (after the CIA had prepared documents for release) to give the appearance that Clinton had communicated inappropriately.
Gowdy is the point person for documents on Nunes’s committee.
Look out for funny business.

Just noticed Nunes has a similar flabby, dead-eyed affect to SC-wanna-be Kavanaugh. Better complexion, though.

by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 17, 2018 5:09 AM |
Shit, R13 is for real but I can't find a way to block it. I'd rather die in a national disaster than hear one word from Trump over my phone.
Anyone (everyone?) think it's a nice little pretext to declaring martial law? Strange timing for a national cell phone alert system test, no?

And, where's the magical information you have about how to block it?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 17, 2018 5:36 AM |
People who attempt to block the message will automatically be put on a Homeland Security Watch List, r23, so I would avoid even searching for information about this since every keystroke is being captured and if you attempt to find ways to block the President's message it will immediately flag you to the attention of DHS
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 17, 2018 5:41 AM |
The problem is, R24, that if he thought he could actually get away with it, he wouldn't have a problem doing all of that.

It's not fair if we can't block Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 17, 2018 6:30 AM |
So you’re saying we are being threatened with unlawful investigation by Homeland Security by merely attempting to avoid coup-instigation via text message by a rapist, treasonous President in bed with Putin?
FUCK THAT.
If they’re saying that the very act of googling anti-Trump information to avoid his propaganda in the guise of “emergency messages” — Trump, a literal traitor to the Constitution — is “dangerous”, we are already living in dangerous, post-coup times.
FUCK TRUMP.

Robert Mueller gets his man
Paul Manafort breaks
The president’s former campaign chief is now cooperating with investigators
Democracy in America
Sep 15th 2018
by LEXINGTON | WASHINGTON, DC
“IT DOESN'T involve me”, said Donald Trump, after his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was convicted by a court in Virginia on eight counts of financial fraud last month. “This had absolutely nothing to do with the president,” said his spokeswoman, Sarah Sanders, on September 14th, after Mr Manafort unexpectedly pleaded guilty in Washington, DC to two additional charges. As that turned out to be part of a newly-minted cooperation agreement with Robert Mueller, the special counsel, we may soon know whether Mr Trump and Ms Sanders are right.
Assuredly, none of the crimes Mr Manafort has been convicted of or admitted to is directly related to the president. The 69-year-old political operative was convicted last month on eight of a possible 18 charges of tax and bank fraud, and of failing to disclose foreign bank accounts. These related to Mr Manafort’s consulting work on behalf of pro-Russia politicians in Ukraine in the early 2000s, for which he earned around $60m. He also hatched a scheme to borrow $20m fraudulently from American banks. Most of these crimes were committed before he played any part in Mr Trump’s election campaign, and there is no suggestion that the president was involved in any of them.
Mr Manafort was due to stand a second trial, in Washington next week, on seven additional charges. These included money laundering, tax fraud, lying to the justice department, failing to register as a foreign agent and obstructing justice by attempting to influence a potential witness against him. Again, there was nothing in those allegations directly related to Mr Trump. The president has known Mr Manafort for decades. But he is not alleged to have played any part in the crimes Mr Mueller charged him with.
Yet Mr Manafort appears to know something that Mr Mueller, who is investigating possible collusion between Mr Trump’s campaign and Russian election hackers, among other things, wants to know. Hence the cooperation deal the two parties have now struck.
In return for leniency from Mr Mueller, Mr Manafort has committed to assist the government with “any and all” matters. That may involve turning over any documents or other evidence demanded of him, or appearing as a witness for the government, as requested. It will also involve providing an account of “his participation in and knowledge of all criminal activities”.
The seven charges Mr Manafort faced in Washington were as a result reduced to two lesser charges of conspiracy, to which he pleaded guilty. These included financial crimes and witness tampering. He also admitted his guilt on charges of bank fraud that the court in Virginia had failed to reach a verdict on. The other outstanding charges in that trial have been dropped. Yet Mr Manafort has by no means got off lightly.
He agreed to forfeit his wealth. He will hand over to the government four properties, including a condominium in Trump Tower, together worth several million dollars, as well as the contents of four bank accounts and a life insurance policy. More seriously, he has accepted that he faces a total prison sentence of not less than 17.5 years. A life sentence, in other words, for a man of his age. Yet if Mr Manafort provides the government with “substantial assistance in the form of truthful information and, where applicable, testimony,” Mr Mueller may be persuaded to argue for a lesser sentence.
How much help to Mr Mueller can Mr Manafort provide? That is the great question, not least for Mr Manafort’s prospects of leaving prison alive.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 17, 2018 3:19 PM |
...
He could feasibly be very helpful. Mr Mueller is investigating the Trump campaign’s links to well-connected Russians. And Mr Manafort built a career on his dealings with them. He was communicating with at least one, Oleg Deripaksa, an oligarch and ally of Vladimir Putin, while working for Mr Trump. He offered Mr Deripaksa, to whom he was either heavily in debt, or heavily in credit, depending whom you believe, “private briefings” about the campaign.
Perhaps more significantly, in June 2016, Mr Manafort attended the meeting in Trump Tower which is the main scrap of evidence in the public domain of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russians. The meeting involved senior members of the campaign—also including Donald Trump Junior and Jared Kushner, Mr Trump's eldest son and son-in-law—and three Russians with Kremlin links, including a lawyer called Natalia Veselnitskaya. The meeting had been arranged by Mr Trump’s son after he was informed that the Russians had dirt to dish on Hillary Clinton.
The Trump administration has denied that and said there is no such dirt. The president has said he knew nothing of the meeting. Mr Manafort can probably tell Mr Mueller whether that is true. No doubt, he already has.
It is hard to imagine the special counsel would have entered into this deal without a pretty good idea of what Mr Manafort had to offer. It might not be a lot. In the worst case for the special counsel, he has forced one of the most senior Trump aides to admit that he is guilty as charged and due many years in prison. In the process Mr Manafort has become the fourth former member of the Trump team to enter into a formal cooperation arrangement with Mr Mueller—the others include Mike Flynn, the former national security adviser, and Mr Manafort’s former partner, Rick Gates. That represents yet another big win for Mr Mueller’s highly productive investigation.
Yet there are also signs that Mr Mueller has been angling for something pretty substantial from Mr Manafort all along. Notwithstanding his Russia connections, Mr Manafort’s crimes fall far outside the special counsel’s main remit: Russian election-hacking and the Trump team’s possible involvement with it. The special counsel might therefore have been expected to hand his case over to regular federal prosecutors—as he did with Mr Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who was last month pleaded guilty to eight charges, including tax evasion and lying to a bank. The fact that Mr Mueller chose to keep Mr Manafort to himself could suggest he thinks he has something significant to offer. (Mr Cohen was not offered a deal ahead of his guilty plea. Though, despite having once sworn to “take a bullet” for Mr Trump, Mr Cohen is also reported to be seeking a cooperation agreement with Mr Mueller, in the hope of a lenient sentence.)
A lesser mystery concerns what Mr Manafort has been playing at all this time. The evidence against him was so damning that it always looked as if he would be convicted. With that in mind, he might logically have sought an agreement with Mr Mueller before his case first came to trial, at which point he would have had a stronger negotiating hand. That he did not seek a deal then suggests one of two things, Either Mr Manafort was delusional about his hopes of evading justice. Or he was holding out for a presidential pardon.
Mr Trump’s former lawyer, John Dowd, is reported to have aired the possibility of such a pardon with Mr Manafort’s lawyers last year. Mr Trump loves pardoning people. He also fears Mr Mueller. Yet according to his current chief lawyer, Rudi Giuliani, the president was later dissuaded from considering pardoning any of his aides until after Mr Mueller had completed his investigation. He would otherwise risk providing the special counsel with even more evidence of obstruction of justice than Mr Trump may have provided already.

...
That has not prevented the president commenting on Mr Manafort’s case. In response to his conviction in Virginia, Mr Trump tweeted: “I feel very badly for Paul Manafort and his wonderful family. “Justice took a 12 year old tax case, among other things, applied tremendous pressure on him and, unlike Michael Cohen, he refused to “break”—make up stories in order to get a “deal.” Such respect for a brave man!”
What does Mr Trump think of brave Mr Manafort now? It shouldn’t take long to find out.

[quote[ Graham lives alone and has never married, which has sometimes sparked insinuations about his personal life that he’s always swatted away. “Don’t believe anything anybody tells you about my Air Force exploits,” Graham once told the Washington Post about his military tour, which took him to Paris and Rome. “I was very heterosexual, that’s all you need to know.” (His record on LGBTQ-rights legislation is consistently conservative.) David Woodard, who ran Graham’s first congressional campaign, in 1994, believes Lindsey is married to politics — “One of those pledged bachelors,” he says. “Maybe if you were in Oxford or Cambridge, you had dons like that.”

[quote]The Nov. 30, 2010, missive is part of a much larger trove of WikiLeaks emails, chat logs, financial records, secretly recorded footage and other leaked documents. The files provide both an intimate look at the radical transparency organization and an early hint of Assange's budding relationship with Moscow.
So the WikiLeaks founder got some karma coming back at him, as his own internal documents were leaked.

by Anonymous | reply 90 | September 17, 2018 6:48 PM |
Thanks for the article R87. I loved this part of it:
[quote]What distinguishes Trumpworld from an organized-crime syndicate or a money-laundering bank, of course, is the presidency itself. Trump could use its powers to shut down the Russia investigation, fire Mueller and other top Justice Department personnel, and pardon his cronies with relative ease. That threat is now somewhat mitigated. Mueller’s team told the court during Friday’s allocution that Manafort had already begun providing them with information, which limits the practical impact of pardoning him now.
[quote]Moreover, in recent months, the president’s legal team occasionally suggested they might demand Mueller hew to a September 1 deadline, implying any major action after that would be interfering the November midterms. If Trump now attempts to halt Manafort’s cooperation with a pardon or other major move, he may face a similar quandary. Democrats are currently forecast to make major gains in the House of Representatives and have a slim chance at retaking the Senate. Given Mueller’s current popularity, any substantive steps against him would probably make a Democratic takeover of Congress—and with it, potential impeachment proceedings—even more likely. Manafort’s flip means Trump is damned if he tries to stop the Russia investigation before November and damned if he doesn’t.

r90 I honestly believe 45 has frontotemporal dementia with Lewy bodies and narcissistic personality disorder. The evidence supporting psychiatrists' and physicians' claims he has dementia convinces me. Hospitalization may exacerbate his paranoiac tendencies. Either in jail or in hospital, his diet is not going to improve -- look how OJ Simpson ballooned in his jail term.
For me the dilemma is: do I want to see as many people, regardless of political affiliation, receive justice for their treasonous crimes, or do I want sweet retribution NOW and stanch the damage and abuse?

In other words, the president is demanding the release of an enormous amount of internal material, without redaction, about an ongoing investigation into his campaign and his associates.
..
The goal appears obvious: Trump is searching for something, anything, new he can use to try to discredit the investigation. The GOP has been making hay of the texts between Strzok and Page all year, and this is an effort to surface similar material Trump can use to attack Mueller.
Trump has singled out Russia investigation-related texts from four former officials and one current official whom he and conservative media have cast as villains in their narrative of a deep state plot against the president.
..
But if Trump insists his order be carried out as stated, it will likely be difficult for the Justice Department to stomach, considering how much this would disclose about an extremely sensitive investigation — one that is, again, still active — and how much it would reveal about their sources and methods.
And, again, Trump is essentially demanding a look at the inner workings of an investigation into his own campaign, an investigation that he has routinely attacked and undermined. He’s not releasing these for “transparency.” He’s looking for ammunition.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | September 18, 2018 5:16 AM |
I don't think he understands what he's doing — what could happen. He wants allies to scrutinize this material, but journalists can also use it to follow leads and find things the Mueller team night have overlooked.

When everyone says "impeachment," they mean impeachment/indictment by a simple majority of the House, as well as removal/conviction by 2/3 of the Senate, right?
They don't literally mean just impeachment/indictment by the House, right? Because that alone is kind of nothing.
So in the Senate, 67 senators must vote to remove the president... Otherwise the president is acquitted of the charges underlying the House's impeachment. Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson were acquitted by the Senate after being impeached by the House.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | September 18, 2018 8:03 AM |
Acting on the House's impeachment, senators vote either to convict or acquit. There's no in-between.
67 is going to be quite a challenge.
Impeachment itself shouldn't be difficult if the Dems win the House. Not sure if it's worth it if they don't have 67 votes to convict in the Senate. Symbolically... Yeah, it may be worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | September 18, 2018 8:06 AM |
It depends, because once he is impeached the Senate drops everything and moves to the trial.
It is at this time the Mueller could drop ALL of his incriminating information.
It is hard to believe that Trump would not hit the 2/3 threshold with all the information Mueller has been holding back for when Trump is not in office.

he is also "iintelligence sharing" with the Russians right now, by doing this. That is one of the pressure points Putin used on him in Helsinki, and yes I'm speculating. But Putin was incensed, or so I've read, at the detailed indictments of his GRU agents. 12 of them. He was also pissed off months ago when all this stuff started unraveling. One of his goals in g etting Trump as POTUS was to have an insider in a position to expose intel networks for him. Trump was doing that when he divulged to his Russian visitors in the Oval, the Israeli intel on something critical and sensitive.
The thing is our Intel people a re probably incensed as are our allies' intel agents around the world . By now, I believe the FBI is in a position to give Trump what they want him to have. I refuse to believe our people are so stupid the would participate in exposing our networks and methods to foreign adversaries, nor would the compromise a very fruitful criminal investigation by someone as esteemed as Mueller. Mueller is no Ken Starr. Mueller is GOD.
And while Trump may discredit the FBI and individual agents, I seriously doubt those agents are tainted in the eyes of the people who count. Trump attacking Ohr is a "tell." it exposes Trump/Putin and Russian organized crime connections more than anything

The committee is excluding the other man who was in the room, Mark Judge. He should be there and asked some questions. We know how he'll answer but that's not the point — it's to decide for ourselves if he's telling the truth.

The Flynn sentencing is said to be either the last week of November or X business days thereafter. (heard it in passing on msnbc)
More books coming out:
@kylegriffin1: Andrew McCabe will publish a book entitled 'THE THREAT: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump' on December 4, 2018.
Unfort, both happening after the midterms but MSM can at least talk about them now.

r210 Have you guys looked up anything about Mark Judge? They cannot allow that guy to testify. I only have space for one link to his writings about sex and sexuality and there are dozens.
[quote]Of course, a man must be able to read a woman’s signals, and it’s a good thing that feminism is teaching young men that no means no and yes means yes. But there’s also that ambiguous middle ground, where the woman seems interested and indicates, whether verbally or not, that the man needs to prove himself to her. And if that man is any kind of man, he’ll allow himself to feel the awesome power, the wonderful beauty, of uncontrollable male passion.
Even if those passages are just the totally innocent musings of a guy writing an article, they could question him on that shit for hours and it would look terrible. If yes means yes and no means no, Mr. Judge, what is this middle ground you speak of? What clues exactly does a woman give that indicate she really is interested and wants to experience your male passion? Would proving yourself to a woman include holding her down on a bed and putting your hand over her mouth? Would proving yourself include helping a friend hold a girl down? Etc.
Before he deleted his YouTube and other video accounts people got some screenshots. There are dozens of videos and pictures of teenage girls posing for him in bathing suits. One was in a bubble bath and obviously topless. And none of these girls looked older than early 20's, and I mean early. Some looked uncomfortable. One was on a bed on her back in a bikini staring up at the ceiling pretending to be dead.
So that's Brett's best buddy and witness that Brett would never do something like try to rape a young girl who was wearing a bathing suit.

As I understand it, Sen. Fienstein turned the woman's allegations over to the FBI to investigate. The woman's lawyer said she would not participate in a public hearing (which is a bullshit sideshow for the GOP) until the matter has been investigated. That is how it is supposed to work. Investigation then hearings. But Grassley and McConnell want to twist the rules to their own ends and put on a show trial . She is telling them to follow the rules.

Right-wing media is telling them this. R262, shame on you! Stop feeling "sad" and get angry. I'm talking about a resolute, deep, hard, energizing anger. Every time I see her I am inspired. Becoming President was literally a life time goal for her. She saw honor in public service. She wanted to make a contribution. She stood up. They demonized her and pounded on her, and then they robbed her and us. Literally took the Presidency that she won, and stole it. And here she is. Still speaking out, raising money, fighting for people. She speaks with clarity, intelligence and precision. No matter how many times she's been knocked on her ass, and watched her dreams go up in smoke, she has never surrendered. She's a fucking survivor. She inspires me. When I look at what she's been through, and what she has accomplished, she is no cry baby. She pushes back, she keeps moving, keeps serving. No excuses.

They tried it with Roy Moore (there were at least two women being paid by the Right to make accusations that were sketchy to the press and didn't check out).

So, yeah, Donald. Release the documents. I wonder though if he announced he was "de classifying" the documents simply to review them with his cronies so they can come up with a strategy based on what they learn.

Actually the possibility of sporadic violence if things go against Trump is very real. The Deplorables are not all old people on scooters. They've done an excellent job of recruiting the Joe Six Pack crowd of people under 30. They're guarded, very wary, mean looking and when you encounter them in their natural habitat, altogether scary. It seems like they are looking for a reason to go off. I would guess the flames are fanned regularly, and if you're an under 30 Deplorable, and those are the websites you visit, where you associate with like-minded freaks, you will get caught up in all that crap. These people are nasty. I'm not saying we face insurmountable odds, but I am saying take care and be cautious. Keep your eyes open It's no accident that these Alt Right Supremacist hand signals are popping up all over the place. I have to wonder WTF is up. Make sure you vote. There are way more of us than there are on them, and most of the Tiki Torchers are cowardly anyway.

It's no joke and these aren't old coots like in Congress, R312. They're dangerous men trafficking in the illegal pet trade, guns, and drugs. If they think you're someone they don't want to know, all they have to do is put a rattlesnake in the room with you and lock the door.
It's serious and the fuck in the oval office is to blame.

Deplorables act on rage. Avoid them at all cost and all they will hit, with their bullets, are each other.
There is no law that you have to be around them, there is no law that you have to invite them into your homes. There is no law where you have to offer yourself as their punching ball or target practice. Make sure you only visit places that are private, as in not accessable to them. Be on high alert in public places like when you are at the supermarket. Get in, grab your stuff, pay, and get out.

R313, I agree with you. They're not hiding, but our LE has proven itself unprepared more than a few times for home-grown terror.
I like to think people are basically good, but I'm not naive. I've been following R317's protocol for some time now. I also always pull over for a tailgater, but one last week pulled over behind me and I gunned it the fuck out of there in the opposite direction. I drive a hybrid and this was a big ass truck with double exhausts and he wasn't being nice for over 5 miles before I pulled over to let him pass.
I really think he wanted to do something nasty and I wasn't taking chances. As soon as he started to pull over I ripped around him and saw his damn ugly face with a red cap. I wasn't slowing down to see if it had a MAGA on it.

Look. Deplorables are cowardly. They like to be in groups if they're going to start some shit. I'm not fearful, but I don't seek them out. I don't shop or drink or party or hang out in those racist suburban or rural/suburban communities were they reside. What is important is for us all to show solidarity with others. Black, White, Brown, Asian, Gay, Straight, Middle Eastern, etc. So if we all stick together and we support one another, and our social lives, etc are integrated with diverse groups we'll be fine.

Listen. White Supremacists have been around since the Post Civil War days. in the 30's 40's 50's etc. they were running for offices locally and giving our political endorsements. They actually marched on Washington D.C., 30,000 of the in white sheets at one point. Many of them were former military or members of local police department. nothing has changed. Learn your history. Then you won't be scared. Back when the Oklahoma City bombing happened, this was at the height of the "militia" scare. Those people were White Supremacist and anti government bastards. We know domestic terrorists exist. Some of them may even be our neighbors or their kids, or the cops in our local precinct. But you have to push back. As I have said repeatedly: They're cowards.

He’s such a skunk. Idiot. “Have a good time”
President Trump once again told survivors of a killer hurricane to “have a good time,” offering the ill-timed comment Wednesday, during a tour of storm-ravaged North Carolina.
“Got it? Have a good time,” Trump was caught saying on video as he handed a meal to a man in hard-hit New Bern — prompting an incredulous MSNBC reporter to say off camera: “I think he just said, ‘Have a good time.’”
Last year, the president visited a Houston shelter after Hurricane Harvey and told its devastated residents to “have a good time.”
And during a visit to Puerto Rico, where he was roundly criticized for lobbing paper towels into a crowd at a church as if shooting baskets, the president asked a couple if they felt safe in their concrete home.
When the woman said that only their windows vibrated during that killer storm, Trump told them to “have a good time.”

For people who are concerned about their safety in DeplorableLand, wear a Christian cross when you go out. Not a flashy one, just a small Christian looking one.
When I have to travel lately in Deplorable areas, I wear one and find the Deplorables don’t try to bait me or start fights like they sometimes do. The Deplorables assume I’m one of them, and it doesn’t offend most other people. It seems to help ward off antagonistic comments.
One thing I learned from going on a Deplorable survivalist website is what they call “the gray man.” This is when you have to go into a potentially dangerous situation and don’t want to get caught up in it.
They recommend no military or tactical visible clothing, a black or neutral colored, unobtrusive backpack, and gray brown or black clothes. Leave the t-shirts with slogans or advertisements at home, no expensive looking jewelry or clothes, and cover identifying marks like tattoos or scars if you can. Don’t wear or carry anything that stands out, no bright colors or striking jewelry, not even costume, no bright lipstick, nothing with a slogan or mark on it someone would recall later. Walking shoes only. Avoid direct eye contact and keep moving like you know where you’re going. Don’t display anything expensive at all, shoes, clothes or anything that looks worth stealing. Wear Walmart grade clothes.
I’ve done this in sketchy areas and it seems to work.

R362, my dad died a few years ago, and he owned property in a very rednecky area of the state. I kept having to go back there over and over because I couldn’t get it sold. Everyone there had a huge truck and tailgated and raced around. I kept getting run off the road by people with monster trucks. A local warned me that the local freeway speed was 80 (posted as 65-70) and if I didn’t drive that fast, I’d get run down. This was way out in the country where it was totally unreasonable. He wasn’t kidding either. I got run off the road pretty much every trip, sometimes multiple times.
There were evangelicals everywhere and you had to constantly watch your mouth because they were very two faced about it and were unfriendly and mean. I got cheated over and over by people that broke every rule and thought nothing of it. Never felt safe there. A black traveling companion was told to get out of a store.
I was really happy to sell it, let me tell you.

I like the term christo-fascist for these types. Stephen Miller is the prime example and I used to have a brother out-law that was his twin in both looks and attitude.
If you had told me 30 years ago about an effort to put 'xtians' in federal office, I'd have been a bit worried, but not much considering what a REAL xtian, at that time, generally behaved like. Now? by Anonymous | reply 387 | September 20, 2018 7:16 PM |
R384, they obviously didn't here the speech by Alibaba's Ma. He's outlined their strategy very clearly and it does not include us. As far as China is concerned, we're lead-footed idiots. They're building windmill farms, solar farms, subsidizing solar power conversion for corporations and private citizens, propping up Brazil's and Central America's economy and infrastructure, making ag' deals left and right that do not include American farmers, and building a trade network with the EU that includes roads and high speed rail.
What incentive is there for US companies with manufacturing they moved over there to come back? Do you think they want to incur shipping costs to the economies they've targeted? Do you think the combined economies of the East and Europe aren't worth it to them? They will never come back, no matter how many permanent tax cuts you dangle in front of them. All China has to do is offer them favored status in that country and deals to offset anything we offer. It's all about that sacred business mantra: location, location, location.
Conversely, China has no interest in moving any manufacturing here, but maybe once these trade wars completely destroy us, we'll be more attractive as a low wage slave country like the Philippines. I doubt it, however, because we'll try to justify a war with them out of sheer spite.
They're making all the right moves while we make NONE.

I'm R381 and I related only what I've experienced re: use of the term Ruskie.
You certainly have a right to your own opinion, but I did not post the very real warning I received from someone else to instill fear. I did it to confirm what has been common knowledge for some time now. You have a right to draw your own conclusions as to my motive, but you are wrong.
My friend is investigating some serious criminal networks in the south and I said so. Rather than be fearful, many mature and thoughtful people on this board have offered good strategies for staying out of trouble and it's worth noting them. Not all of us are fortunate enough to live in areas surrounded by others who we agree with politically. These are charged times, but I'm not going to stick my head in the sand and pretend the hatred and ugliness isn't there.
by Anonymous | reply 390 | September 20, 2018 7:25 PM |
R390 Your friend should talk to me. I am in the south in a small town; Georgia, in fact. I am a known Democrat and don't hide being gay. I can argue and disagree over politics with those that want to engage, with civility of course. I enjoy vexing a few casual friends/acquaintances who voted for Trump and may still do in a less enthusiastic manner. I stay away from nut-cases and druggies. Such is all over the country and in every town.
Criminal networks? I don't see armed militias being formed near here and Democrats under attack. Near half the populace are African-American.
And a lot of those known militias have originated in places such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, Idaho, Montana, Missouri, and Arizona; Georgia and the Carolinas not so much. The Charlottesville visitor that murdered the woman by vehicle was from Ohio.
The culprits to focus on are the politicians and the lobbyist and their financiers. The challenge is to vote and urging others of similar mind to do so as well.

I'm sure your experience is true because I've had the same types of experiences.
The post was meant as a public warning to be careful because emotions are heightened and these are people with little self control. Again, my friend is incredibly sensible and I wouldn't have posted something so incendiary if I thought people would panic or perceive it as a generalized portrayal of ALL Trump supporters. It's not.
Don't be afraid, but aware. I wasn't going to stop the car and ask the guy in the pickup truck to discuss his issues with me or why he was tailgating. I took no chances when he tried to pull over behind me. That's what I'm talking about.

Now, R400, my cookies cleared today because my security system does that every two weeks. But I've been here since thread 1. You only have four posts in your history, and three of them are on this thread calling people trolls. Tell us about yourself since you enjoy harassing others so much.....are you a troll? Do you post under multiple devices? Why do you try to run people off these threads? Are you a Russian shill or just a controlling cunt? Are you the same person who has been harassing people since thread 1 trying to intimidate them into being quiet or leaving? Why do you have more of a right to post here than anyone else? In short....who fucking died and made you king of these threads? Go fuck yourself. And everyone else- keep posting.

"Remember Bill Shine? Infamous for covering up the sexual harassment scandals (Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly) at Fox News for which he was ousted. He is the current White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications in the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. He is also the person who is currently grooming Brett Kavanaugh for next week’s Senate Judiciary Committee testimony. Fascinating."

Yes, i just did. It’s a very, very fast paced summary of what MSNBC has been broadcasting over these many months. Perhaps a bit more specific and accusatory.
I ended with the impression that Trump was only an unwitting stooge. (Of course, the American people are worse stooges). But, I suppose Trump is in on it too, right? Given that he must be a partner in crime, being essentially blackmailed by the peepee tape. What a clusterfuck!
Mueller, Justice delayed is Justice denied! Please get on this, already! I mean, Trump !

Look. Ever since at least 2004, we have been watching the phenomenon of the Latino Evangelicals gradually shifting their support to the GOP. They remind me, as an old grey ass, of the phenomenon of the Black Republicans going back to Nixon and even through Reagan. So for anyone to express surprise at Trump's Latino support, don't be. That support is soft. It will degrade over time. Unlike the crazy uneducated white women, and men who will die with Trump's dick in their mouths.

Not to go on a tangent, but.......
R396 Just a comment or two on one facet you referenced. The transport and sell of exotic pets is a crimial industry and is getting worse.
Note Trump by executive order relaxed restrictions of the import of ivory, skins/furs, animal heads and bodies for taxidermy and mounting, etc. That promotes the market.
State laws vary in the animal trafficing domain. South Carolina is notoriouly laxed about this. For example, Pentacoastal/apostologic churches that practice snake-handing, buy their poisonous snakes (rattlers, etc.) in SC. They are sold to buyers in Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, and a few other places that have these super-fundamentalists. Tennessee had banned the sale and transport of poisonous reptiles. Still a problem.
Dog fighting and cock (talking about roosters DL) fighting is major, and law enforcement is slack in getting much of this busted. In some AA and Latino communities, staged animal fighting is rampant.
Weak state laws and poor enforcement, along with deficient federal regulations and monitoring has allowed the abuse.
Exotic animals being sold at flea markets and other venues in Florida use to be not so hidden.
Good to know some people are investigating.

by Anonymous | reply 457 | September 21, 2018 7:45 PM |
We already know, thanks to the secretly taped Nunes speech, that the plan all along has been to replace Sessions and shut down Mueller -- only it was thought that doing so prior to the mid-terms would jeopardize Kavanaugh's confirmation. Clearly Mueller always assumed that Trump would directly try to get rid of him, that's why he's been spinning off parts of the investigation to various other offices. If Trump fires Rosenstein now, presumably what even big dummy Nunes predicted will come to pass: there will be so much chaos that nothing will happen prior to the mid-terms, and even more people repelled by Trump, and the disasters he causes, will go out and vote against him and his party.
by Anonymous | reply 458 | September 21, 2018 7:45 PM |

Drumpf can't fire Rosenstein directly, right? Sessions has to do it.
And Rosenstein denies saying it so unless people come forward they have no proof (not that it would stop any of the Rethugs from agreeing with the firing anyway). The story he said that sounds way too convenient. Sounds like something Drumpf would make up.

I'm cancelling my subscription and I encourage others to do same. Why in the fuck did they publish this knowing what kind of ammunition it gives Trump and his idiot stooges: Meadows, Nunes and Jordan. I have a gut feeling this came from the WH or Nunes and planted with cooperation of the NYT to get Rosenstein and after him, get rid of Mueller. Fight back!!
I also do NOT believe that Rosenstein is the type to say something like this seriously. Sarcastic, yes.
by Anonymous | reply 504 | September 21, 2018 8:54 PM |
Rosentein and others are pushing back hard on this. It truly seems like he made a comment in jest during a disagreement with McCabe, McCabe recorded things without saying it was sarcastic and here we are. Somebody saw that memo and ran to Schmidt to get him to print the story with the slant they wanted on it.
Gabriel Sherman reported this morning, before this broke, that Bill Shine was rolling out a new plan to build public support for Trump to fire Rosenstein.

So no the Grey Lady has become the 25-cent Grey Whore.
Doesn't matter now if Rosenstein was being sarcastic, any more than it mattered that Peter Strzok's tweets were probably being misinterpreted. This plays perfectly into Trump's narrative about exposing the corruption of the FBI being a "crowning achievement" - so perfectly that the timing of the sources' reaching out to the media makes it obvious that this was a planted narrative. R505's note about Shine's plan proves it.
Yes, Rosenstein is pushing back hard, but he's toast now.
R510, Mueller may hold a lot of the cards, but it's naive to believe he has ALL of them.

He has pieced out the investigation so that even if they fired him, they could not shut it all down.
Comey was asked the question what happens if mueller is fired, by Terry gross, way back in the spring. He said something like, the file goes in the drawer, and someone else will pick it up.
Also, Cohen has been interviewed in NY. NY is going after the Trump corporation. They will RICO his ass.
We are in a war and will lose battles. We will win against these Nazis.

"Trump can fire Rosenstein for any reason he sees fit. To make it look legit he just needs one he can use to not have congress turn on him."
Again, Trump CANNOT fire Rosenstein. Only Sessions can do that, and this report provides the AG the perfect rationale to do so, with the GOP-controlled Congress in full support. Plus it will buy the Keebler Elf some time.

"Comey was asked the question what happens if mueller is fired, by Terry gross, way back in the spring. He said something like, the file goes in the drawer, and someone else will pick it up."
Comey didn't say when it would be picked up, though. I don't know that someone in the FBI is going to just go rogue and carry it forward without instructions from the top, and if Rosenstein and Mueller are gone, who would that top person be?

This is not fucking "Over." The NYT article is a lie, a plant. It is right in line with the Anonymous bullshit. If you don't believe the Russians and Trump himself had a hand in this, hell Rudy probably personally called the NYT and alerted them. They are fucking igs. Boycott the times, stand with Rosenstein. Trump is a fucking animal and I swear to God if he thinks this kind of amateur shit is going to benefit him I have a bridge to sell him. The FBi and the Intel community are righteously pissed off and this is not going to end well. Rudy and whoever started circulating these rumors is toast. Do they think Rosenstein will not fight back? Do they think mcCabe and Ohr don't have relationships and resources. Just wait. The other shoe is going to drop and either the NYT issues a huge apology, or it goes down in flames completely discredited.

by Anonymous | reply 531 | September 21, 2018 10:36 PM |
R514 is correct and this is war. I can't imagine Rosenstein is too worried about being fired by this administration and would more than likely welcome it. His part is pretty much over and he did the right thing when he appointed the IC he did.
It's not over, either, until we get out there. A firing will further mobilize people and the Kavanaugh nomination and debacle has already alarmed a lot of otherwise complacent young women who understand what his 'abortion inducing medication' schtick really means.
Hang on to the gunnels and batten down the hatches. No whining on the deck and grab your cudgels. The storm is just starting to get rough.

These leaks have the stink of Nunes and Jordan all over them. They tried to impeach Rosenstein once and now they are really at war. I smell Steve Bannon on this as well but maybe not. But Rudy is sure involved. I am sick of this shit! "Twilight of Democracy" as Kim Whelan said on Ari Melber. Thanks a lot NY Times piece of garbage.

This NYT piece just sounds like tabloid gossip. What's the news value in it? If the story is based on a single remark made sarcastically, by way of actually rejecting a plan to use the 25th amendment, why is this significant in the greater scheme of things?

R520, Comey wasn't saying FBI agents would go rogue. He was saying agents are loyal to the constitution. They are not loyal to a compromised executive branch. He was saying that you can fire Mueller but you can't really kill the investigation. He was circumspect. Have a listen to the interview.

Just called to cancel NY Times subscription and the first they asked me when I said I was calling to cancel was "Is this about the Rosenstein article" and I said absolutely. The call center is jammed with calls cancelling. Poorly written and sourced - the NY Times may as well be Pravda. This is as bad as the anonymous resistance article-which I'm sure now was also a plant.
Some former attorney just said that Rosenstein couldn't have been serious about prospective interviewees wearing a wire and the other stuff with 25th Amendment because it is all just preposterous. Preposterous is Devin Nunes middle name.

Ok, I’m panicking now. Will Trump really fire Rosenstein? Sessions? Mueller? How quickly can he do it? Will the Congress allow it? Does Mueller have a counter strategy ready? Somebody please assure me that Trump can’t just get away with shutting down the investigation.

I'm with R533 . I put Nunes, Jordan, Hannity & Rudy on this. it was a little more polished than Nunes usual schemes so that tells me Bill Schine the WH Communications director was on it too. But it's an obvious plant and these reporters are either under tremendous pressure from their editors to grind out the news every damned day and if there's no new developments invent some. A lot of people on MSNBC are saying this was a Shine operation to change the subject after Trump's disasterouos attacks on Dr. Ford and the whole Kavanaugh debacle.

I cancelled my subscription to the NYT online edition about a month ago because I never had time to read much of it. I wished I waited so I could have cancelled it today over the Rosenstein article. It appears to be a prod to trump to fire him. Makes me sick. Just the fact that trump is in bed with faux news hacks is sickening. I've always despised hannity. This country is being run by criminals and creeps.

(549) yes, I canceled online via the app, and put "other" as the reason. The next window that popped up said something like, would you like to tell us why? And I just put: Rosenstein. With the period as emphasis. It felt good. I subscribed the day after the election, wanting to support the fourth estate. But yesterday's article felt wrong. It could have been written or floated in another way, but it was a complete take down. It felt giddy and almost malicious. Just no.
