Krissy from R1's pic was found dead at home while still a teenager, I think. And Niki was in that horrible accident. She's beautiful, but she's had a lot of heartache.

R3, Niki was the one who found Krissy unconscious and not breathing. Attempts to revive her by the paramedics proved futile and she was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead. Krissy was only 17. She had no prior known health issues but apparently died of arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia.

I was a kid in the late 80's and early 90's, but every girl that I went to school with wanted to look like Niki (of course, none of them did). I remember that all of the boys around the same time fantasized about Cindy (those Pepsi ads in particular). Around 1993, Kate Moss hit the scene and it all changed. Girls wanted to be Kate and maybe a year or so later all of the guys wanted to get with Kate. The paradigm shift was subtle at the time but by 1994/1995 it was sealed. The look had changed - the "glamazon" was a thing of the past and the gorgeous waif was the new look. Niki absolutely was gorgeous and very much a celebrity poster child of 1991.

None of the guys at my school liked Kate Moss, I think Cindy and Nikki we're the only models any of them had ever heard of. Straight guys don't follow high fashion.

Kate Moss was the face of Calvin Klein for a decade and was hardly JUST high fashion. She was on every billboard, in tons of TV spots, in advertisements in every magazine - you could not avoid seeing her. She also dated Johnny Depp (the biggest movie star of that time period) and was all over the tabloids. Stephanie Seymour was another model that straight guys talked a lot about and fantasized over. Most straight guys would not have known much of anything about Nikki Taylor - they did not read Seventeen or Cosmo. Straight men were familiar with models who were either in large commercial campaigns that had both TV and tons of print ads (Pepsi, Calvin Klein, etc.) or those who dated huge movie or rock stars (Cindy with Richard Gere, Kate with Johnny Depp, Stephanie with Axl Rose, Claudia with David Copperfield, etc.). Also, Cindy and Stephanie both posed for Playboy as well - drawing a huge straight male following. Linda, Christy and Naomi were certainly global stars but not really well known by many straight boys. Nikki was primarily known to teen girls - she never had much exposure to teen or college boys (or men for that matter).

She was the face of Cover Girl for years. I used to see her ads on TV all the time. She kept a much lower profile than some of the other top models, but she was definitely up there with them. She was lucky in that she could do lucrative commercial stuff like Cover Girl and high fashion as well.

She was on the cover of Vogue when she was fifteen years old. She was the youngest model ever to sign a major contract with Cover Girl, and she signed a $4.5 million contract with L"Ideal when she was in high school.

She was oddly a huge force in modeling without a huge name. She honestly had the best of all worlds - big money and big jobs and limited name recognition. Don't get me wrong - she was very known, but she somehow slipped under the radar of the "supermodels" and perhaps had more longevity than the elite group (outside of Kate Moss - who went on for decades - she was also a bit under the radar like Niki).

She effortlessly slid into the exclusive VIP supermodel world.

I would guess that she was less dramatic than the supermodel girls and far less runway. The era of the supermodel was all about Versace, Valentino, Armani, Cavalli, Galliano,Herve Leger, Vivienne Westwood, Helmut Lang, Gucci, Prada, etc. I don't remember her doing much of that = although she did land those huge cosmetic contracts. She did very well for herself.
