They seem to get along even afterwards. Was it her sudden fame?
Why did Elliott Gould and Barbra Streisand divorce?

Another fauxmance designed for visibility and production of offspring, perhaps?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 3, 2018 3:33 AM |
R1 is pretty much right.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 3, 2018 3:34 AM |
They do, at least, seem chummy towards each other to this day. At some point, I even remember Elliot mentioning that Barbra had wanted to do Gypsy with him in the 80's with him as Herbie. I always liked that it seemed like they really got along. Some people really are better off as friends.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 3, 2018 3:38 AM |
They both had affairs.
I heard that her affair with Omar during Funny Girl was the final straw.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 3, 2018 3:43 AM |
Elliott was cute and funny. Loved him in MASH & The Long Goodbye. She had great taste in guys.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 3, 2018 3:47 AM |
I feel like Barbra never got credit before being as stunning as she was when she was young.
Her beauty is much more obvious in 2018 when you see more diversity in models / actresses. She was very beautiful in a non-vanilla way.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 3, 2018 3:49 AM |
Didn't he say something awful about her once, or was it another guy? Something like "She wants to be a beautiful lady, but she is neither one of those"
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 3, 2018 3:51 AM |
R7 Was it Lainie Kazan?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 3, 2018 4:14 AM |
They may have gotten on good terms, but he was not-so-friendly when she was cheating on him.
But he was a drug addict. So there is that.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 3, 2018 4:30 AM |
WHY? Because she cheated on him from day 1, and he couldn't hold a job. Besides being a drug user Gould had a nasty gambling habit (with her money) too. .But mostly, like all people who become rich and famous, Babs realized she didn't have to settle for a goofy nerdy guy. She became sought after.

Too hairy.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 7, 2018 10:24 PM |
R7, Rex Reed (he hated her, so take it with a grain of salt) quoted Omar Sharif saying something like "she wants to be a woman, she wants to be beautiful. She is neither." Since they definitely had an affair during the making of Funny Girl (confirmed by him), I figure she could have left him abruptly when the film was over and pissed him off. But Omar was a very nice man and I can't really see him saying anything so ungentlemanly to a reporter.

OP, exquisite stranger, gorgeous nosy yenta, you want to know why I divorced Elliot? It's simple. But, my darling, before I tell you.. I'd like for you to, ahem,

by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 7, 2018 10:48 PM |
Because Elliot Gould was tired of being called Mr. Streisand
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 7, 2018 10:49 PM |
didn't they get married because she was pregnant?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 7, 2018 11:53 PM |
I didn't know that Ross & Monica's dad was married to Barbra! You learn something new every day.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 7, 2018 11:57 PM |
Why on earth did I think that Omar Sharif was gay?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 7, 2018 11:57 PM |
Dunno, R17. Omar Sharif was a womanizer.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 7, 2018 11:59 PM |
Because her pussy stank.
You're slipping DL.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 8, 2018 1:24 AM |
HA HA HA r15
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 8, 2018 2:19 AM |
They seem to have a similar arrogance and huge egos. They were doomed to fail. Both people can't be assholes - one has to be willing to stay in the background and allow the other to shine.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 8, 2018 2:25 AM |
Avigdor wait!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 8, 2018 2:48 AM |
She wouldn’t give him anal.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 8, 2018 3:00 AM |
It was their starter marriage.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 9, 2018 7:29 AM |
She wanted to use his side of the bed as her personal shopping mall, and he was getting in the way.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 9, 2018 7:31 AM |
He wouldn't fight...
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 9, 2018 7:51 AM |
She wouldn't let him see her right side profile
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 9, 2018 8:23 AM |
He refused to shave his hairy back.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 9, 2018 8:34 AM |
Is Jason hung? Or such a huge bottom, it's insignificant
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 9, 2018 8:49 AM |
I remember in the 90's Entertainment Weekly did a feature where celebrities talked about their worst jobs. When they asked Gould, he said, "Well, I *was* married to Barbra Streisand"
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 10, 2018 2:27 AM |
I dunno how that could be true, R32, since she supported $ his lazy deadbeat ass.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 10, 2018 2:46 AM |
I imagine being married to anyone who brings their own lighting gels to interviews would be exhausting.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 10, 2018 4:54 AM |
You guys are Diane and I am me...
Love Barbra
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 8, 2018 11:26 PM |
It's too painful to remember, so we simply choose to forget.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 9, 2018 12:23 AM |
Who knows- neither was famous when they started dating and within couple few years she was the biggest new star in the world and within 5 years perhaps the biggest star, period. That cannot be easy.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 9, 2018 12:33 AM |
R37 = doesn't read the thread and offers lame overly obvious post based on ignorant conjecture.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 9, 2018 4:11 AM |
Why did he have to be so awful on "Ray Donovan"?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 9, 2018 6:01 AM |
Wasn't her affair with Sydney Chaplin part of the reason?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 9, 2018 3:00 PM |
That was in 1964, R40. They didn't separate until five years later.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 9, 2018 7:53 PM |
Sarcasm R38? Mine is one of the only sane responses.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 9, 2018 7:58 PM |
Anyone who starts a post with "who knows" shouldn't be posting at all, R42.
