I worship Martha Plimpton
And I have worshipped her ever since The Mosquito Coast, when she told River Phoenix that she thinks about him when she goes to the bathroom.
I can’t imagine an actress I’d enjoy a boozy dinner with more.
Here she is singing one of my favorite songs, which I just came across. A very pleasant surprise.

Why? She's a tiresome narcissist. When she was in London in OTHER DESERT CITIES and then on Bway in A DELICATE BALANCE, she was loathed pretty much all round.

I have friends in common with her, and have known her since the mid 90s. She's just as fun as you'd imagine, and I adore her.

Yes she's fabulous, so funny. She stole every episode of The Good Wife she appeared in. Keith Carradine's daughter, the apple didn't fall far.

She’s like a less cunty Patti LuPone.

She is fab! I hope she ends up on The Good Fight this season. Who says she is loathed in the Broadway community? She wouldn't have multiple Tony award nominations if that was the case

I am the same age as her and have seen her around the UWS for decades. She shops at this Gristedes on Bway. She looks down to earth.

I think she's done some good, interesting and varied work over many years. The recent FOX sitcom was a disappointment, but i think every actor needs that kind of income along the way. I loved her in the movie Pecker. "no balls on foreheads!"

Weird R1, I guess you must be doing the cunt-reply. I know her and have both worked with her (film) and have socialized with her, and no one I know has that opinion. She's wonderful.

I don't regret the recent sitcom, it proved she's pro-gay, which makes anyone more likable in my eyes.

I actually have had dinner with her at Fred's on Amsterdam Ave in NY. We have a very close mutual friend and it was her birthday. As an aside, this friend had scheduled her wedding for her birthday several years before and was dumped after the invitations went out and she had already had an engagement party. Now, her birthday is eternally ruined because all she talks about on her birthday is getting dumped by her fiance. It actually is sort of funny. Back to Martha. she is unable to process any information or conversation that isn't about her. When she mentioned someone I had worked with, I said I really liked them. She shreeked and shouted "What is wrong with you?!". I told her the other person really liked her and she immediately backed down. In other words, she is a spineless cunt.

She reminds me of a girl I went to school with. I knew her on-and-off from the ages of 5 to 18. Anyway this is pretty much what she looks like now (alcohol). And she was a lot like that. It's very entertaining to watch on stage (she did theatre), it's miserable as a co-student. She had close to zero friends at school, actively seeked people off if that makes sense. She didn't make much sense actually. Constantly "angry" at everything.
She came from a privileged background and ended up with a government job in "Culture".
She still can't find people to like her and has gained a ton of weight.

I've told this story on DL before, but I've never seen a thread devoted to Martha so I'll tell it again:
I worked as an intern for a talent agency while in college in NYC. I was 21 yrs old. Martha, at 13, was a client. At that time, she was only known for her Calvin Klein commercial. She was very sweet when she'd come into the office, and she was just a normal kid. Not precocious or obnoxious, no self-entitlement. She'd hang out with me while waiting for appointments and we'd just shoot the shit. I worked there one year.
About 10 years later, long after her career had taken off, I recognized her on a NYC street. She was walking in my direction. We made eye contact and I smiled, but never assumed she'd remember me. Her eyes lit up, "Mike??!". I couldn't believe it. She was rushing to meet someone so we were only able to chat for a minute. But she gave me a big hug and went on her way.
I've been closely monitoring her career ever since.

Hated her when she first arrived on the scene. 13 year old model with show biz family? Excuse me while I roll my eyes. Tolerated her during her River years. Came to appreciate her around the time of Parenthood.
Finally I fell in love with her. Fantastic. One of my favorite moments was when she met Triumph the Insult Comic Dog at a red carpet event. Bedecked in her beautiful green beaded gown, she decided to introduce herself to him by turning around and bending over.
Love her.

I watched her in Shy People (1987) a couple of weeks ago: she and other good actors stuck with a wretched script. Skip this turkey.
