Taiwan ice-cream puppies.

You're supposed to eat these. OMG.

Is Taiwan actually a place where they eat dogs for real?

Do they only come in Shar pei?

by Anonymousreply 2August 23, 2018 10:16 AM

They're ice cream.

by Anonymousreply 3August 23, 2018 10:18 AM

Bloody awful idea. Only the Chinese could rally behind such an idea. I saw this on TV the other day; they're ice-cream cakes. The fur is so realistic it is quite distressing.

by Anonymousreply 4August 23, 2018 10:20 AM

They're TOO REAL - it's disgusting.

It's just a dog-shaped piece of ice cream.

Waaaay to obsessed with dogs.

by Anonymousreply 8August 23, 2018 10:29 AM

too*

by Anonymousreply 9August 23, 2018 10:30 AM

I don't like food that they probably had their hands all over shaping

[quote]It's just a dog-shaped piece of ice cream.

It's a lot more than that. It's sinister.

by Anonymousreply 11August 23, 2018 10:32 AM

[quote]their hands all over shaping

yes.

by Anonymousreply 12August 23, 2018 10:33 AM

Americans make dog cakes too. It's not a novel idea.

OP is race-baiting or a narrow-minded bigot.

That's the stupid person of 2018's response to everything.

by Anonymousreply 14August 23, 2018 10:38 AM

No R13, many of these people probably wish it were real dog. Culturally, it my very well mean something altogether different for them.

by Anonymousreply 15August 23, 2018 10:52 AM

^ may well

by Anonymousreply 16August 23, 2018 10:52 AM

Triggered.

by Anonymousreply 17August 23, 2018 10:54 AM

OP asked if Taiwan is a place where they eat dogs for real just because they make dog cakes.

So it's like saying Americans eat dogs just because Americans make dog cakes too. That's pure ignorance.

By the way, R14 is racist too if R14 can't understand the ignorance of OP's comments.

by Anonymousreply 18August 23, 2018 10:54 AM

Believe me, this has created a huge fuss in Taiwan, too! People here love "cute" things, and so the ice cream people clearly thought they were on to a winner.... forgetting that this is also the place where you see more people carrying around little dogs like babies than anywhere else. Result -- outrage in Taiwan, too

by Anonymousreply 19August 23, 2018 10:55 AM

Does it REALLY only happen on the mainland R18 & R19? I'm trying to keep an open mind, honestly. The practise really makes me shudder, and yes I'm crazy for doggos.

by Anonymousreply 20August 23, 2018 11:00 AM

R15 assumes that most Asians eat dogs. That's like assuming that most homosexuals are pedophiles.

by Anonymousreply 21August 23, 2018 11:01 AM

[R20] In some parts of China (and Korea) people eat dogs. There is a belief that dog meat is "warming" (in a the Chinese medicine understanding of these things) and therefore good to eat in Winter. However, fewer and fewer people eat dog. And because more and more people are keeping dogs as pets, there are plenty of people fighting to stop it in China, too. I'm not a vegetarian, but I do think that if you're going to eat meat, I don't see why cow is OK, but dog is not. For me, the crucial issue is how the animals are raised and slaughtered. There are dog farms that do the whole process in a "humane" manner (in so far as that is possible), and then there are others... but let's not think about that.

by Anonymousreply 22August 23, 2018 11:08 AM

Also, in Taiwan the consumption of dog meat was banned in 2017. It was the first country in Asia to ban the consumption of dog meat. So, three cheers for Taiwan! (Also on the way to becoming the first country in Asia to legalize gay marriage)

by Anonymousreply 23August 23, 2018 11:10 AM

Hurray for Tawain!

by Anonymousreply 24August 23, 2018 11:13 AM

Does the ice cream taste just like chicken?

by Anonymousreply 25August 23, 2018 11:15 AM

I would love it as a cooling desert after a meal of warming dog meat.

by Anonymousreply 26August 23, 2018 11:19 AM

R22 Thanks for not jumping down my throat BTW. I knew it went on in mainland, and a friend of mine who taught English in Korea tried it, but was not sure about Taiwan. In Korea, it is known as " stamina food". They believe it to be good for old men, the infirm, young men trying to conceive. My friend happened to be a lady, and they foung it odd she tried it. I think dogs have evolved along with us so very closely since being domesticated that it is a bit different from eating a cow, but that is my personal feeling. A friend who lives in Singapore said it doesn't happen there, and I have been told never in Hong Kong either, but I still wonder.

by Anonymousreply 27August 23, 2018 11:21 AM

Isn't it the year of the dog btw?

by Anonymousreply 28August 23, 2018 5:12 PM

Is it an auspicious thing?

by Anonymousreply 29August 23, 2018 5:13 PM

Most carnivores are not edible. Most carnivores like lions don't eat other carnivores in the wild. The reason for this is that carnivores probably have a higher incidence of parasites, but the biggest hazard comes from biomagnification.

As a result, carnivores would have a higher level of heavy metals, radioactive isotopes, and carcinogenic compounds than the herbivores would have. These can't be destroyed or removed by cooking (i.e. you couldn't cook mercury out of bear meat).
