Tucker Carlson Cuts Off Immigration Analyst’s Mic

After Getting Bested in Debate

Fox News Tucker Carlson‘s ability to embarrass his guests in bitter debates on his primetime program has been well documented. But there is one recurring guest who manages to trounce Carlson at his own game: Alex Nowrasteh, a senior immigration policy analyst at the CATO Institute.

Carlson started Wednesday’s interview off with a straw-man, accusing Nowrasteh of espousing a view expressed by a professor who said on MSNBC this week that Mollie Tibbetts, the young woman allegedly killed by an undocumented immigrant, was just “a girl from Iowa.”

Tucker Carlson is the textbook definition of a punchable face.

by Anonymousreply 2August 23, 2018 4:15 AM

Exactly, R2, what the fuck is wrong with him? His face looks like that every night.

"what the fuck is wrong with him?"

That could be the topic of it's own thread. It would reach 600 posts in no time.

by Anonymousreply 4August 23, 2018 4:24 AM

Tucker Carlson is what happens when the douchey, rich John Hughes character grows up, gets fat, and goes to work on TV.

He cuts people off all the time. Nothing unusual about this.

by Anonymousreply 6August 23, 2018 4:43 AM

Fucker Carlson is a white supremacist's wet dream.

by Anonymousreply 7August 23, 2018 6:57 PM

I watched Tucker on MSNBC and CNN a couple of times and he was a crazy lunatic even then. Now he’s found a home on Faux News, a safe haven for crazy conspiracy theorists.

I certainly won’t miss him when God needs another angel.

by Anonymousreply 8August 23, 2018 7:06 PM

I happened upon one of his interviews. It was someone on the left and he never gave the man a chance to speak. He then spoke with a female on the right and he just let her talk and talk and talk. Then I wondered why anyone in their right mind would agree to be on that show.

I'll be glad when Trump goes down and he takes Fox with him

by Anonymousreply 9August 23, 2018 7:07 PM

He is actually LESS punchable now since he stopped wearing that fucking bow tie.

Carlson's face looks like a thumb, r1, Hannity's looks like a big toe so......

by Anonymousreply 11August 23, 2018 7:29 PM

I can't take Tucker Carlson seriously since this moment.

That was such a great job by Jon Stewart. Did Crossfire even come back the next week? I know it was gone very shortly after Stewart dismembered them.

by Anonymousreply 13August 23, 2018 8:16 PM

[quote]I certainly won’t miss him when God needs another angel.

Don't pawn that asshole off on me.

by Anonymousreply 14August 23, 2018 8:17 PM

R12 Stewart comes off as a complete asshole to Carlson and Bigala in that clip. I have no idea why people think he owned them. Why did he even go on the show in the first place? And no one gives a fuck about what Stewart thinks, especially now that he's in semi retirement.

by Anonymousreply 15August 23, 2018 8:56 PM

uh-huh....

by Anonymousreply 16August 23, 2018 8:58 PM

Thanks, Tucker/r15.

by Anonymousreply 17August 23, 2018 9:00 PM

Hey Tuck/R15, tell us that story about you gay bashing that guy again!

by Anonymousreply 18August 23, 2018 9:01 PM

What has Stewart been up to lately? Is he part of the resistance? No, he's politically neutered these days. The most recent thing I've seen of him was when he was guest hosting Monday Night Raw, owned by Vince Mcmahon.

by Anonymousreply 19August 23, 2018 9:03 PM

You are just confirming the point of that clip. It is not the responsibility of Jon Stewart to be the political voice of reason. He is a comedian. It is up to the news to be the news and to stop being cheap theater.

by Anonymousreply 20August 23, 2018 9:15 PM

God Carlson is so cringe worthy in that clip. When Stewart calls him a straight up dick (paraphrasing) Carlson goes into this shocked, embarrassed "showbiz" laugh and tries to recover by saying through a frozen grimace, 'now you're getting into it - I like that'. I could watch that skin crawl reaction over and over.

by Anonymousreply 21August 23, 2018 9:44 PM

R20 He should tell that to Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel who emphasize politics into their shows every single night. For the record, I have no problem with them doing that just as I don't have a problem with people tuning off. I just thought it was odd he would target Crossfire, which was fairly tame even back then. Now we've seen the political divide grow even wider which makes it so strange that Stewart hasn't come back to comment or double down on his remarks. His tactics have been used to often by people who don't want to commit to any point of view or have an honest debate. If that's your intention, then just be quiet.

by Anonymousreply 22August 23, 2018 11:28 PM

Yeah, R22 obviously didn't watch the Crossfire clip or if she did then she completely failed to understand it. Oh well.

by Anonymousreply 23August 23, 2018 11:30 PM

R22, really didn't get the point at all.

by Anonymousreply 24August 23, 2018 11:41 PM

Crossfire was actually the last time CNN let a conservative who wasn't a complete idiot speak on their channel. If they brought it back, I'd actually watch it every once in awhile.

by Anonymousreply 25August 24, 2018 12:09 AM

R23 More like Stewart didn't understand his own argument. He lobbied one insult after another but reverted to the comedian excuse whenever the hosts challenged him. Today, more young people get their news from people like Maher, Colbert, Oliver, and others who are comedians, but are meant to be taken seriously. Even Tucker Carlson has comedic bits in his show like the liberal sherpa. Just because someone says something in a comedic way doesn't invalidate their point of view.

by Anonymousreply 26August 24, 2018 12:13 AM

I don't remember the details but the clip reminds me of an interview I heard many years ago about appearing on The Daily Show. Most guests are advised to let Stewart handle the comedy.

It's a funny clip and I think Carlson looks more like an asshole than Begala. Stewart got his start doing stand-up in NYC. What ever made Carlson think he could get under Stewart's skin?

by Anonymousreply 27August 24, 2018 12:23 AM

[quote] More like Stewart didn't understand his own argument. He lobbied one insult after another but reverted to the comedian excuse whenever the hosts challenged him.

No he didn't lobby insults. He pointed out that what they were doing was not news but theater. Then, when they turned his accusation against him he pointed out that that criticism doesn't work because he IS doing theater.

And pointing out that people are more likely to get their news from people like him makes HIS point that THEY are failing to do THEIR job.

by Anonymousreply 28August 24, 2018 12:39 AM

R28 Even if true, that's a huge thing to lay on the feet of Crossfire when sensationalistic news has dominated, especially before the 24 hour news cycle. If Stewart really cared about objective news, he should be commenting about how it's gotten worse in the years since and use his voice to help raise important issues. Bottom line is he hasn't, and never really cared to begin with. Nothing he said was wrong per se, but it came off as incredibly disingenuous, even more so years later, and just an excuse to virtue signal.

by Anonymousreply 29August 24, 2018 1:08 AM

Again, R29, you didn't understand what Stewart said.

by Anonymousreply 30August 24, 2018 1:11 AM

He LOBBIED insults?

by Anonymousreply 31August 24, 2018 1:15 AM

Yeah, R31, evidently in the minds of Trumptards, lobbyied insults are a thing,

by Anonymousreply 32August 24, 2018 1:40 AM

[quote] "what the fuck is wrong with him?"

He hasn't been punched enough, obviously.

by Anonymousreply 33August 24, 2018 1:44 AM

Carlson did not cut off the guest. He told the guest when the time for the segment had ended and the guest kept talking anyway. Also, this is the guest who said that no one should have to present ID to get a job and he couldn't respond when Carlson asked him why American are prosecuted for identity fraud but illegal aliens should not be.

by Anonymousreply 34August 24, 2018 1:50 AM

Is R34 seriously blowing Tucker Carlson right here on the Datalounge?

Are you fucking high? Stop doing anything nice for that nasty perv.

by Anonymousreply 35August 24, 2018 1:57 AM

For the life of me I can't understand why anyone who isn't either an idiot or a deplorable would watch Fucker Carlson or Fox News for that matter. My experience with Fucker Carlson is limited to clicking around the channels and I stop because of that, I am an idiot look he always has on his face. But I sure don't linger long. I swear he looks like like his guest is speaking a foreign language or something most of the time.

by Anonymousreply 36August 24, 2018 2:02 AM

I happened to have CNN on when Jon Stewart went on Crossfire. It's not like he was speaking truth to power-- like Colbert to Bush at the White House Correspondents Dinner. Also the Crossfire banter, while inane, was not typically mean-spirited. The Daily Show was innovative in its time but Jon Stewart himself was and remains highly overrated.

by Anonymousreply 37August 24, 2018 2:05 AM

[quote]just as I don't have a problem with people tuning off.

You're a martyr r22, a Christian martyr.

by Anonymousreply 38August 24, 2018 12:58 PM

R37 yeah, and I suspect he saw that in himself when he retreated from The Daily Show. Carlson is a mess and awful, but Stewart couldn’t really go on without morphing into a smirking jerk. Colbert’s success must eat at Stewart. I don’t watch him (Colbert) closely, but he seems like a nicer person, less easily threatened than Stewart.

by Anonymousreply 39August 24, 2018 1:16 PM

R39 - Why on earth would you think Colbert's success would eat at Stewart? Not only did he give Colbert's career a huge boost by having him on The Daily Show as a correspondent he also was one of the creators and executive producers of Colbert's show.

by Anonymousreply 40August 24, 2018 2:27 PM

Not to mention that they are great friends.

by Anonymousreply 41August 24, 2018 2:29 PM

R35 Nope, he's just giving him his due. The guest who supposedly bested him made an idiotic comment, several actually, and Tucker punched back.

by Anonymousreply 42August 24, 2018 5:48 PM

r38 - Oh, Mother.....

by Anonymousreply 43August 24, 2018 6:10 PM

Embarrassing
