It's old school. Of course the gay joke was wrong and should not be tolerated today, but I do appreciate that style of Borscht Belt humor. It's nostalgic and fun.

It's probably shtick, R4. My guess is that Dangerfield, and many comics like him, rarely displayed any authentic emotions in public or perhaps rarely at all. I met a old, leather faced, women in Brooklyn Heights about 15 years ago who immediately went into "shtick". Someone I was with said, "She's probably not uttered a sincere word in forty years." ""
