Patti Labelle is 74 but Tina will be 79 in November.
We Better Start Appreciating Ms. Tina Turner While We Still Got Her!

I was just thinking about her, OP. You're right. She's getting up there in age.

by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 17, 2018 3:34 AM |
I love Tina, but after Aretha, Dolly's the one I'm not gonna be able to handle.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 17, 2018 3:35 AM |
We don’t need another hero!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 17, 2018 3:37 AM |
She chants everyday as she is a Buddhist
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 17, 2018 3:38 AM |
She might have been queen . . .
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 17, 2018 3:39 AM |
Traitor Turner renounced her American citizenship.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 17, 2018 3:39 AM |
Tina ain't checkin' for any of you heaux.
She's chanting for her own serenity. Good for her.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 17, 2018 3:41 AM |
Thank you, r11. I have bookmarked this thread just for your post. Have you seen Tina's interview with Larry? Near the very end of the interview, he gets her to chant and it is amazing!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 17, 2018 3:47 AM |
turners eldest son committed suicide a few months back. difficult times.

The Fox network tribute to Aretha featured a photo of Patti.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 17, 2018 3:54 AM |
How do we appreciate her, does she even sing anymore? Doesn't she just stay in Switzerland being rich now? Which bless her is her right after the life she lived
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 17, 2018 3:56 AM |
A few days ago, I think r14.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 17, 2018 3:56 AM |
Where's the respect for Ethel Waters and Mahalia Jackson?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 17, 2018 3:58 AM |
Tina Turner musical is playing in London, r16.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 17, 2018 3:59 AM |
R13 I very much recommend the first of the recordings Tina made with that group - there's Beyond (the first) and then several others.
The first has a few really great songs to meditate to and a few Tina-led meditations. She does not sing, although she does chant nam yho renge kho.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 17, 2018 4:01 AM |
Thank you r20! I loved your previous link and will listen to this as well.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 17, 2018 4:03 AM |
The most overpraised artist in history. So many predecessors and later influenced artists who were so much more talented. Aretha lucked out by being exactly the right person at exactly the right time.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 17, 2018 4:05 AM |
r23 - Your name isn't Ike by any chance?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 17, 2018 4:09 AM |
Realized I should have made clear that I was referring to Aretha. not Tina, when I said the most overpraised artist.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 17, 2018 4:09 AM |
Tina discusses her son, Raymond in her 1997 interview with Larry, r21. Said he was the most sensitive (or words to that effect) of all her children.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 17, 2018 4:15 AM |
My mum saw her when she did her last tour. It was an amazing night according to her, and Tina still had so much energy.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 17, 2018 4:18 AM |
Tina Turner talks about Nichiren Buddhism and chants a prayer.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 17, 2018 4:25 AM |
I love Tina - that's all I have to say.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 17, 2018 4:39 AM |
She has an autobiography coming out this October and a documentary in the works right now.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 17, 2018 4:53 AM |
How is that diva, r27?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 17, 2018 4:54 AM |
She had a fake accent before Madonna did. Madonna has ripped off everyone.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 17, 2018 4:54 AM |
I like the saucy way she puckered her lips as she turned her well coiffed head to see who was behind her. She has a presence about her.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 17, 2018 4:58 AM |
I will have to get a copy, r33!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 17, 2018 4:59 AM |
Amazing @ R32. She's so iconic. There will never be another Tina Turner.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 18, 2018 1:35 AM |
She’ll be 80 in November

Queen Tina.......an exceptional woman and entertainer!

Excerpt from Tina Turner's new book:
"He’s been full speed ahead ever since. I, on the other hand, have experienced ups and downs. My body keeps trying to reject the new kidney, which is not uncommon after a transplant. This means I have to take strong doses of immunosuppressants to weaken my antibodies and prevent them from attacking an organ they don’t recognise. Sometimes, the treatment — which causes dizziness, forgetfulness and anxiety — involves spending more time in hospital...."
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 6, 2018 1:25 AM |
This is still her iconic look — thick black liquid eyeliner applied to her brows, Dynel wig, and ratty fur coat. Fabulous in its own trashy way.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 6, 2018 1:36 AM |
".......the average life expectancy for a patient on dialysis is generally five years. On the other hand, patients who receive a kidney transplant typically live longer than those who stay on dialysis. A living donor kidney functions, on average, 12 to 20 years, and a deceased donor kidney from 8 to 12 years."
"A kidney transplant does not last for ever. The average life-span of a transplanted kidney is twelve years for a deceased donor kidney, and about 15 years for a living related transplant. The average for a living unrelated transplant is somewhere between the two.May 1, 2000"

FOOEY on r25.
Aretha could write her own hits -- TINA COULDN'T.
I love me some Tina but bitch, please!
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 6, 2018 2:08 AM |
r28, when was her last tour?
Does Tina still perform?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 6, 2018 2:11 AM |
It's all on the internet, r45. Do you want me to fix you dinner too?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 6, 2018 2:13 AM |
That'd be nice.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 6, 2018 2:14 AM |
I was hoping she would perform when David Bowie died, but alas, no. We'll always have the recordings and memories, though.
I don't like this soft Millenial chick Adrienne Warren playing Tina in the musical. She just doesn't have the soul that comes from hard living, abuse and poverty.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 6, 2018 2:22 AM |
What do you all think?
It's a fairly passionate likeness, but I don't feel the toughness of Tina.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 6, 2018 2:26 AM |
I met Tina Turner at the old Copper Kettle/Lions Club on Divisadero . in San Francisco. I was 31 and Tina would have been 33. She was not really comfortable at first, but as the night proceeded she was simply warm and wonderful. I always get choked up when I hear of anything causing this woman any grief.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 6, 2018 3:14 AM |
What Tina, Ike and Phil Spector accomplished on this recording is astonishing. I honestly think it's one of the greatest achievements in recorded music. The raw intensity of Tina's vocals, the tightness of the band and that powerful wall of sound. So good.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 6, 2018 4:06 AM |
Sandra Bernhard was right. Miss Tina retired to Switzerland to get THICK. And have an apple-doll head grafted to her body, apparently.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 6, 2018 4:22 AM |
No, Sandra is wrong. The effects of rejection drugs have caused her face to become swollen. Not a good sign. Mrs. Bach is truly suffering.
Be a little kinder, you will be, being kinder to a whole lot of us who really care.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 6, 2018 4:28 AM |
Tina can do no wrong, in my opinion. I am a super fan who has (sadly) never had a chance (or the cash) to go see her perform live, but I would love it. I think she *IS* *** *WAS * *** and *Always* will be one of the biggest rock icons we've ever been lucky enough to have in popular American music. She's a QUEEN!
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 6, 2018 4:48 AM |
So sorry to hear you never got to see Ms Turner LIVE. Hope you enjoy this, r54.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 6, 2018 5:07 AM |
Her Buddhism does seem to give her a lot of her charisma and appearance of strength and grace.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 6, 2018 5:10 AM |
R53: rejection drugs to what??
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 6, 2018 5:18 AM |
R53, Just to clarify: Sandra said this in her show six or seven years ago. No one knew that Tina was having health problems.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 6, 2018 5:23 AM |
Miss Tina, got married in a formal hostess gown. For this act alone, she needs to be appreciated.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 6, 2018 5:35 AM |
In my life -simply the best! - when I hear her I smile, when I see her I smile, when I think about her I smile - what more can I ask
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 6, 2018 5:37 AM |
To r58, Tina Turner has had a kidney transplant and her body is trying to reject it, requiring more anti-rejection medication and often a bloated face and body.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 6, 2018 5:56 AM |
This might be the BI poster was referring to a few days ago.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 6, 2018 9:13 PM |
Could be, Tina doesn't want to go on dialysis.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 6, 2018 9:15 PM |
She said she dd not want to go on dialysis, r63.

Trying to find bits of inforation on Tina Turner's health:
HELLO Magazine:
Another shock diagnosis, early stage intestinal cancer, led to part of her intestine being removed. By 2016, Tina’s kidney function was down to 20 per cent, leaving her unable to eat. Tina admits at one point she thought of assisted suicide — legal in Switzerland — and signed up to be a member of Exit, “just in case”.

by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 6, 2018 10:00 PM |
She's doing interviews for her book from her home in Switzerland:
"Now 78, and in frail health having suffered a stroke, cancer and kidney failure in the past five years, she sits in the garden of her Swiss chateau reflecting on the Mexican wedding and her remarkable life. She also talks openly of the death of her son, Craig, who took his own life aged 59 in July. She blames this – albeit indirectly – on Ike.
