If you do not agree, you probably never ate the best one. The best one is of Alfonso variety.
Mango is the best fruit in the world. Nothing comes close
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 15, 2018 8:39 AM |
Agreed, but the best comes cut up in a plastic container from the grocery store.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 9, 2018 2:39 AM |
In like it super ripe, cut up, and ice cold. Any variety.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 9, 2018 2:40 AM |
I find that mangoes really vary. When they are ripe - but sour - they're awful. And then you'll get a weird ugly bruised one that is unbelievably good.
Then there's the famous Indian ones... haven't tried those.

Thank goodness for global trade.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 9, 2018 2:45 AM |
As the Okie's used to say, they're the best thing since canned peaches !
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 9, 2018 2:51 AM |
I prefer peaches.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 9, 2018 2:55 AM |
I like them now but I didn't used to. I thought they tasted soapy.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 9, 2018 2:57 AM |
I can't get the oils from their skins on my lips or I get rashes. Has to be prepared for me. Sumac family of plants. Like poison oak or something.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 9, 2018 2:59 AM |
Dried mangoes are delicious too!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 9, 2018 3:15 AM |
I hope consuming them means people are making money and sending kids to school. Like fair trade bananas.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 9, 2018 3:17 AM |
Philippine mangos are among the sweetest varieties.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 9, 2018 3:47 AM |
They're an acquired taste for some folks. Smelly socks odour and taste.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 9, 2018 5:25 AM |
Freaks, R13.

You sure you don't mean durian?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 9, 2018 5:42 AM |
They are delicious.
Like the poster up above, I have to cut the fruit from the skin before eating it, or I get a rash.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 9, 2018 5:43 AM |
Do you have to floss your teeth for an hour afterwords? That's the only downside... or maybe I should cut it into cubes and not eat it like an apple (without the skin).
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 9, 2018 7:30 AM |
I love mangoes with a squirt of fresh lime juice.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 9, 2018 7:35 AM |
what are the little yellow ones called? honey mangoes or champagne mangoes or something like that. they are delicious
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 9, 2018 7:41 AM |
They call them champagne at whole foods.

"Mango is the best fruit in the world. Nothing comes close"
Fuck off, OP!!!!!!

R22 “To the astonishment of most North Americans, mangoes are consumed worldwide by a factor of three to one over bananas and ten to one over apples.“
Sorry bitch

Agreed and decreed, OP.

And, supposedly, homemade mango ice cream with ripe mangos is the best ice cream in the world. I've yet to have it.

Mango with alcohol is delish!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 15, 2018 12:19 AM |
If you've ever had a tree-ripened peach, you agree that it may be the best fruit in the world. Though I agree that a mango is pretty good too.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 15, 2018 12:38 AM |
R32, I am a Southern boy, born and bred, and have eaten peaches all over the South, all over the summer, all of my almost-fifty years, and I have to say that as much as I LOOOOOVE fresh Georgia peaches or home made peach ice cream in the SUMMAHTIME, I do believe that the flavor of a perfectly ripe Ataulfo mango is really on the edge of a spiritual experience.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 15, 2018 1:26 AM |
Way too sweet for me.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 15, 2018 1:27 AM |
R8 R16 Can you eat cashews? A lot of people who have the allergy to mangoes get the same reaction from cashews. Cashew, mango, poison ivy and poison oak are all members of the Anacardiaceae family. The plants all contain urushiol oil, which causes the rash and/or tingling sensation, but the concentration of urushiol in mango and cashew is far milder than in poison oak or ivy.
Cashew urushiol oil is usually removed during the food processing since the oil is in the outer shell, but some people still react when eating cashews.

I agree w/ R34 - they are way to sweet for me.

The mango dessert in Barbados, the ripe peaches off my peach tree, the wild strawberries picked with aunt Olga.....some wonderful memories...
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 15, 2018 5:15 AM |
Mangos make an insanely good sherbet - with mint.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 15, 2018 5:23 AM |
My current favorite fruit is kiwi. So juicy and flavorful. And so good for you.

The Bahamian mangos are great. You can bite into them without the flesh getting into your teeth.
