r15 I loved that show! With Moose and the slime buckets and Luke's arm in the wastebasket. My parents thought we were watching too much TV at the time and so they cancelled cable. By the time I saw it again, the cast had all changed and it looked different. It was never the same!

A vote for the final season of Once and Again. They released the first two and then never finished the run.
R2, I finally caved a few years ago and bought a bootleg set of the complete series of The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd. I'm glad I did - the show is all but forgotten and will probably never even see the light of streaming, much less dvd. I started watching when it was rerun on Lifetime and have loved it ever since, even though I was just a kid then.
It's my understanding that what has always kept New York Undercover from a dvd release was the music rights. If it ever does make it to dvd, they will almost certainly switch out the music, which would be a huge shame, as it was such a big part of the show.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 29, 2018 10:31 AM |
Cold Case has the same problem with music rights.

2. A Year in the Life
3. Molly Dodd
4. St. Elsewhere
5. Knots Landing
6. Homefront
7. Falcon Crest
Knots Landing is one of the first shows I binge-watched, long before that was a phrase. I made friends with someone who'd watched, and taped, every episode from the beginning. I started watching it in season 5 or so, then over one summer, I watched the tapes of the first four seasons. What a treat.

I loved Sightings! And Relativity is another one that I bought a bootleg of years back. Honestly, there are places all over to obtain many of these series - no, it's not an official release, but it's better than nothing. With so many of these shows never making the transition to dvd, it seems unlikely that many will make their way to streaming either...

You may well be right, r42. I remember seeing an episode at some point that didn't even play the Joe Cocker theme song. But this is what it says on amazon:
[quote]Music: Part of the appeal of this award-winning searies was the soundtrack! Hear over 300 classic period songs as they were featured in the original broadcasts, including artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, The Byrds, Simon & Garfunkel, Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, and of course, Joe Cocker's unforgettable theme song.

I agree with everything R23, R32, R40 & R49 posted.
I'd like to see more soaps released in sets of 182 episodes at a time (about the same as a single Star Trek series with 7 seasons).
As The World Turns, One Life To Live & Days Of Our Lives would be at the top of that list.
Also some rare cartoons like Buford, Tiger Sharks & finally Manta & Moray.

One more vote for ‘Jack and Bobby’. In addition to the beautiful Matt Long who played Jack, the show also featured Bradley Cooper in a recurring role.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 29, 2018 3:53 PM |
r7 China Beach was issued on DVD. However, like Wonder Years, WRKP and Square Pegs, the music was changed for some episodes.
The worst offender is the episode where Murphy visits Dodger after the war. There were some beautiful songs by Willie Nelson... that are no longer used. Shameful as they made the episode.
Alvin & The Chipmunks has never been fully issued on DVD, just handful of episodes.
The problem with a lot of these shows is that the first season was released and then that's it. Either the distributors didn't continue due to poor sales of the first season or just gave up. Picket Fences, Murphy Brown and 227 all have this problem in addition to Falcon Crest and Knots Landing.

Two years ago, Get TV, a digital cable channel airing content from the Sony library, aired uncut episodes of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and Nanny and the Professor. They aired them in 40 minute time slots to allow for the full episodes to air.
Having seen both of them for the first time in 45+ years, I laughed and I cried. I felt like I was five years old again seeing Ghost, eight seeing Nanny. Both series held up well. Both had strong acting and timeless plots
So, yes, both should come out on DVD. However, having said that, I don't know how much of an audience there would be for DVDs of Ghost and Nanny since neither aired much in syndication. Few people under 45 are going to have even heard of these two shows.
