It wasn't from lack of family connections or lack of roles in the 70s and 80s!
Why did Talia Shire's career go straight down the shitter?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 2, 2020 7:50 AM |
She got tired of everyone screaming "Yo Adrienne!" to her on the streets.

Unattractive women have an even shorter shelf-life in Hollywood than beautiful ones get. She could have kept working once in a while if she wanted to play hags. It's the nature of the business.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 25, 2018 10:24 PM |
Why did she change her last name to Shire?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 25, 2018 10:27 PM |
Look at the picture you posted, OP. Look at ANY photo of her, and you’ve answered your own question.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 25, 2018 10:28 PM |
One of the few actresses who I don't mind in spite of their obvious Hollywood connections.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 25, 2018 10:34 PM |
I think it may have been because there was a glut of mousy brunettes in the 1970s (Diane Keaton, Margot Kidder, Shelley Duvall, Karen Allen) and people had their fill of her and all the others.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 25, 2018 10:36 PM |
R3 She married the composer David Shire, who did the scores for some good movies. After divorcing Talia, he married DL favourite Didi Conn.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 25, 2018 10:36 PM |
Why must every thread devolve into a discussion about Patti Lupone?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 25, 2018 10:36 PM |
Talia is the widow of producer Jack Schwartzman, father of Jason Schwartzman. Let's just say she's not exactly hurting for money.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 25, 2018 10:40 PM |
R9 Don't you mean "evolve"?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 25, 2018 10:41 PM |
Don't test me, Patti.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 25, 2018 10:42 PM |
Darling R9, if you are trying to be with-it and glib about dear Patti, please learn to spell her surname correctly.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 25, 2018 11:28 PM |
Well, there's always the matter of talent, the ability to act. You must have both.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 25, 2018 11:30 PM |
She was not untalented.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 25, 2018 11:51 PM |
She's Francis Ford Coppola's sister so it couldn't have been from a lack of connections.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 25, 2018 11:54 PM |
Limited range and average looking. And that comes from a fan of her roles.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 26, 2018 12:00 AM |
She was fantastic in the first movie version of The Shining.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 26, 2018 12:08 AM |
She was always a mousy woman.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 26, 2018 12:29 AM |
It's hard to make it in entertainment. Very competitive. Lots of people fall by the wayside.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 26, 2018 12:44 AM |
lack of true talent ?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 26, 2018 12:52 AM |
She had three bombs in a row (and not box office bombs but hated films: Old Boyfriends, Prophecy and Windows.) and then all she did was Rocky sequels. She seemed to think she was a star after Rocky and took rotten movies where she was the star rather than supporting roles or wife/girlfriend roles that probably would have done her better.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 26, 2018 1:02 AM |
I suspect 99% of people who call themselves actors are envious of her career. She's a working actress.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 26, 2018 1:03 AM |
She had a vulnerability to her roles that I liked.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 26, 2018 4:10 AM |
As a beauty school dropout, the second Mrs. Shire was more truly vulnerable.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 26, 2018 4:25 AM |
R7 with the exception of Duvall (for whom mousy would be a kind adjective), all those other women were legitimately pretty. Maybe not bombshells, but certainly pretty.
I don’t even think of Talia Shire as a mousy woman per se, just an “ethnic looking” lady with a bad nose job. Like Didi Conn (that husband clearly has a type).
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 26, 2018 8:31 AM |
I remember she guest-starred on Blossom. I feel like that’s the last thing I saw her in.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 26, 2018 8:41 AM |
She should've won an Oscar for her role as the nun in the acclaimed film 'Chantilly Lace' starring Jobeth Williams, Ally Sheedy, Jill Eikenberry and Martha Plimpton
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 26, 2018 8:57 AM |
R28 That film was filled with a bunch of has beens and never wases. Did Jobeth pump William Hurt?
[R7] with the exception of Duvall (for whom mousy would be a kind adjective)
Mousy brunettes, as in "mousy hair", as in:
of something having a drab pale brown color resembling a mouse; "a mousy brownish-grey color"; "mousy hair"; "mouse-colored hair"
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 26, 2018 12:54 PM |
bump
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 26, 2018 9:29 PM |
BUMP
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 27, 2018 5:46 PM |
She was never very attractive. Hen Annabella Sciorra started to get all her jobs.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 27, 2018 5:47 PM |
They stopped making Rocky and Godfather movies.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 27, 2018 6:05 PM |
I liked her in the original Rocky. I hate all the sequels.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 27, 2018 6:09 PM |
If Carrie Snodgress' agent didn't ask for too much money for her to play Adrian in Rocky, we might never had heard of Talia and that's not a bad thing.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 27, 2018 7:05 PM |
She was great as Connie.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 27, 2018 7:12 PM |
She most recently turned up on Grace and Frankie, playing Lily Tomlin’s OLDER sister. Yikes.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 27, 2018 7:32 PM |
Weak chin.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 27, 2018 8:16 PM |
What is that horizontal line women have under their noses? What surgery leaves that telltale mark? It's everywhere.

Could someone start a Why did Bette Midler's career go straight down the shitter? thread. Thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 27, 2018 8:40 PM |
She was in both the Godfather and Rocky. Most actors can only dream of a career like that.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 27, 2018 8:56 PM |
Stallone wanted Adrian's family to be Irish with Carrie Snodgress and Harvey Keitel.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 28, 2018 1:07 AM |
She looks better now!
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 28, 2018 1:19 AM |
Endlessly chewing the scenery and emoting noisily in the Godfather. The worst performance in the first 2 Godfather films, by far. She borders on the unintentionally funny.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 29, 2019 12:18 AM |
She played the baddie in one of those 90s "Fatal Attraction" clones called "The Landlady."
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 6, 2020 4:22 PM |
Seemed like she had an OK career to me.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 6, 2020 6:52 PM |
She got tired of everyone screaming "Yo Adrienne!" to her on the streets.
It's better than calling her a "spoiled guinea brat" even if her family connections got her into [italic]The Godfather[/italic].
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 2, 2020 6:16 AM |
It was all over when she lost the Oscar to our Faye.
