This is like a bad dream you'd have after smoking too much meth!
CHER and REBA to receive Kennedy Center Honors together!
by Anonymous | reply 193 | September 2, 2018 7:27 PM |
I hope she sings Fancy!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 25, 2018 5:11 PM |
Isn't the POTUS supposed to hand out these awards? No way he's going to appear after the things Cher has said about him over the past year.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 25, 2018 5:14 PM |
He didn't go last year.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 25, 2018 5:16 PM |
Would Half Breed be considered offensive today? Sure, it's one of the early hits, but it remains one of Cher's biggest. I kinda wanna hear it during the ceremony.
r2 No need to worry. He already skipped last year. He'll probably skip this too.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 25, 2018 5:17 PM |
Only four honourees this year, not five. (I'm not counting the "special" one for the Hamilton team. DL, who should have been the fifth?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 25, 2018 5:20 PM |
LL Cool J has one (seriously!),
My dog could get one at this point.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 25, 2018 5:21 PM |
"Special" award? WTF?
How come the writers of the Lion King didn't get one?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 25, 2018 5:21 PM |
Elton did.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 25, 2018 5:24 PM |
If the honorees are okay with him coming, he will come. Did they ask Cher ahead of time? I bet they did. This is held in Demember, aired in January.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 25, 2018 5:26 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 25, 2018 5:28 PM |
Happy for Philip Glass!!! I'll let you bitches fight over everything else.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 25, 2018 5:28 PM |
r9 It's airing day after Christmas this year.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 25, 2018 5:30 PM |
Why is Lin-Manuel Miranda on the list? So it's no longer a long career award?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 25, 2018 5:30 PM |
r13 I've had a long career, ese.
I'd be most interested in whom they'll haul out for the Philip Glass tribute. If there was ever a time for Reich and Riley to honour one of their own, this is it. Adams too, but not really.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 25, 2018 5:34 PM |
Where's mine?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 25, 2018 5:41 PM |
Cher should perform, "If I could turn back time...to Nov 8 2016"
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 25, 2018 5:42 PM |
The honourees don't perform. But one of those paying tribute definitely should. The message won't be lost on the audience.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 25, 2018 5:43 PM |
It airs the week after Christmas every year.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 25, 2018 5:46 PM |
Sorry but Connie Smith deserves the Kennedy Center Honor more than Reba
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 25, 2018 6:01 PM |
I predict Kelly Clarkson will present to her mother-in-law Reba. Meryl will present to Cher and make a quip about how Cher played both her lesbian lover in Silkwood and her mother in Mama Mia! 2. I don’t know who will present to Lin-Manuel Miranda (Chita? Rita Moreno? Gloria?)
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 25, 2018 6:10 PM |
I was Cher's lesbian lover in Silkwood. Turn in your gay card.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 25, 2018 6:13 PM |
Reba doesn't deserve it but Cher does. so does Linda Ronstadt but she hates awards, or used to.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 25, 2018 6:17 PM |
Reba's okay. She gave one of the best performances I ever saw in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN. She's not my favorite, but tons of people like her very much indeed.
Give me the real deal: Patsy Cline.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 25, 2018 6:23 PM |
nothing exceptional about reba's voice and she's a Republican, too.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 25, 2018 6:26 PM |
r23 Don't you have to be alive to get one? (I think Glenn Frey got his posthumously because the honour for the Eagles got postponed a year and he died in the meantime.)
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 25, 2018 6:30 PM |
Three of them have agreed to attend the White House reception that usually begins the celebration of the event. Cher and Miranda haven't said anything yet.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 25, 2018 8:12 PM |
Isn't it a bit soon to give the Hamilton creators a Kennedy Center Honor? Shouldn't they wait a little while and see if it stands the test of time?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 25, 2018 8:16 PM |
r28 It's not just that. The Kennedy Center Honors award the person, not the work. This special award is being given to a team for a particular work. It would make more sense to honour LMM for his body of work, though since that only encompasses In the Heights, Bring It On, and Hamilton, also more comical.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 25, 2018 8:35 PM |
^Some wonky grammar there, but you get what I mean.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 25, 2018 8:36 PM |
Betty White

Betty White.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 25, 2018 8:54 PM |
KenCen is fully revved up for the hysterically sold-out bus 'n truck HAMILTON this summer, so consider it a "product tie-in" award, or part of a "bargain" to get the show here in the first place.
It really should always be an end-of-career "National Treasure" award, but they're making an exception for LMM and his crew.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 25, 2018 9:03 PM |
In opera: Thomas Hampson. Or do they want him to retire first? Then Sherrill Fucking Milnes. You don't have to be American, right? 'Cause Domingo and Pavarotti have both been honoured. Then Teresa Fucking Stratas.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 25, 2018 9:05 PM |
Current admin at KenCen is desperate to be seen to be "inclusive" and anti-elitist. The KC Honors this year reflect that. So, no high-falutin' traditional opera awards.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 25, 2018 9:17 PM |
Then Fleetwood Fucking Mac.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 25, 2018 9:18 PM |
Opera has been a dead artform for a couple of decades now
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 25, 2018 9:19 PM |
While were on the subject, have either Connie--Stevens or Francis respetively--been honored by the Kennedy Center? They deserve it more than Reba! Actually, speaking of Rebas, award winning actress Kim Zimmer is also more worthy of the honour.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 25, 2018 9:43 PM |
Suzanne Somers.
ROBBED!

Sorry, I meant as far as my taste in country music goes, Reba bores me. I know they can't give the honor to Patsy.
Though they have made a movie about her life, something that Reba will never get.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 25, 2018 10:56 PM |
And country music seems to be very Republican.

Tim's even spoken about his desire to run for office at some point.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 25, 2018 11:33 PM |
I'm so happy that Cher is getting this.
She deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame but Jann has supposedly blacklisted her
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 25, 2018 11:35 PM |
Then she needs to get Parkinson’s right away.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 25, 2018 11:38 PM |
Cher deserves one. Reba too.
Too soon for LMM. WAY too soon.
There's still plenty of veteran artists they could bestow the award on. MTM never got one, which was criminal. Liza's still waiting. Bernadette? Kathleen Battle? Joni Mitchell? Stevie Nicks? Nancy Wilson? Chaka Khan?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 25, 2018 11:42 PM |
Joni got one.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 25, 2018 11:50 PM |
Absolutely Bernadette. She should have received it already within the last couple of years. Can't believe she hasn't.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 25, 2018 11:59 PM |
Actually, Woody Allen, Peter Martins, Kathleen Battle AND Jane Fonda should have received it years ago, but they will never get it.
Apparently Doris Day turned it down years ago.
Liza, Bernadette, Johnny Mathis and Charlie Pride all deserved it years ago. Why they are still waiting is beyond me.
Audra McDonald, Renee Fleming, Wendy Whelan, Dianne Reeves and Wynton Marsalis will absolutely get it someday.
From the world of film, the overdue ladies are Sally Field and Diane Keaton. Catherine Deneuve should get a special Oscar AND a Kennedy Center Honor.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 26, 2018 12:11 AM |
r50 I think there's an unspoken lovability factor involved, so no Woody and no Battle. Liza is so very, very long overdue. You don't have to be sober and drug-free to get this, right? And I'll take your Dianne Reeves and raise you a Cassandra Wilson.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 26, 2018 12:20 AM |
Seems a bit early for LMM but that’s diversity for you. I mean he will earn it, he’s very talented, but he’s too young.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 26, 2018 12:47 AM |
Whoopi Goldberg and Beyonce need to get a KC award soon too. Along with Jane Fonda.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 26, 2018 1:15 AM |
What about Britney spears?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 26, 2018 1:15 AM |
r54 Bless her heart. Perhaps some other award.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 26, 2018 1:18 AM |
Reba McIntire, ugh. She devolved into a country Michael Bolton, doing covers of old Bobbie Gentry and Vicki Lawrence (!) songs.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 26, 2018 1:18 AM |
How is that devolving?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 26, 2018 1:30 AM |
Reba is the Queen of Country Music and I will have no word spoken against her. She’s had more Top 10 hits than Dolly (who I adore)!
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 26, 2018 1:52 AM |
Jane Fonda, Bernadette Peters, Johnny Mathis and Liza need to be recognized immediately.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 26, 2018 2:14 AM |

How can it be that still Liza has not been honored? And Johnny Mathis? Ridiculous!
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 26, 2018 2:29 AM |
I’ll be fine with Jane Fonda getting one as soon as she apologizes for her treasonous acts during the Vietnam War. But probably not.

BETTE MIDLER!!!! Bette has not been honored yet and should have been in before (or at least together with) Cher. No one deserves it more than Bette! Her success is still at its peak with "Hello, Dolly"!
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 26, 2018 2:49 AM |
Olivia DeHavilland! Sally Field! Mick Jagger and Keith Richards! Dionne Warwick! Gladys Knight! Little Richard! Michael Caine! Jerry Seinfeld! Julia Louis Dreyfus! Olivia Newton-John!
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 26, 2018 2:57 AM |
You have to attend the ceremony so it isn't going to ever be Olivia DeHaviland. Gladys Knight is another good choice. Seinfeld and Julia LD are still too young. Olivia...no, never.
Bernadette is still the most obvious. Honestly, Patti LuPone would be in the running as well. After Bernadette though.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 26, 2018 3:02 AM |
What would keep Olivia de Havilland from attending?
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 26, 2018 3:15 AM |
Being 125 years old and not wanting to travel all the way from her home in Paris.

by Anonymous | reply 76 | July 26, 2018 3:31 AM |
Again, Johnny Mathis. A gay, black singer. A contemporary of Elvis and Sinatra. Barbra's favorite singer. It's an outrage that he hasn't been honored. I love him very, very much, and will be bereft when he finally leaves us.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 26, 2018 3:31 AM |
Chances are, R77, he'll make it but they'd better hurry. He'll be 83 this fall.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | July 26, 2018 3:34 AM |
I was pulling for Sweet Honey In the Rock. They truly deserve it. Wayne Shorter - yaaas! I love Cher - so OK. Reba? For real? I guess they need to nod to that audience.

Nancy Wilson, what stylish vocals, same with Mathis, one of a kind.

Here's the link to submit nominations. I just nominated Johnny Mathis and Liza. Come on DL, we can do this!

I've nominated Bernadette a couple of times in the past, too.

Rosie O'Donnell
Ellen DeGeneres
by Anonymous | reply 88 | July 26, 2018 5:03 AM |
R85, 1) not true and 2) even if that was the case it wouldn't matter; look at past honorees...some of them aren't known even in new York let alone anywhere else. Even this year, who in the hell is Wayne Shorter?
by Anonymous | reply 89 | July 26, 2018 5:13 AM |
Hear, hear, R88! I think ALL FOUR of those lesbians deserve it!
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 26, 2018 5:24 AM |
r81 This thoroughly explains the special award to the Hamilton team.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | July 26, 2018 5:25 AM |
Reba has sold over 80 million records and had a number 1 every decade for the last 4 decades. She's had a hit tv show, was highly critically praised for her Broadway (many DL'ers in the Broadway threads have said it's one of, if not, the best they've ever seen) debut, has a successful clothing line, 2 NYT bestsellers, a movie career, 3 Grammys, 100+ Country Music awards, a Golden Globe nomination and was one of the top touring acts of the 90s. So she deserves it.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 26, 2018 5:46 AM |
Reba is still a Trumper twat.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | July 26, 2018 5:48 AM |
R93 she's good friends with the Bushes who fucking hate Trump, so I would assume she'd follow suit. She's straight and was raised in Oklahoma, did expect her to be a far-left liberal?

Madonna. Too soon? I think one could make a case for it, and I'm not even a fan.

R 89, take off your theater queen glasses. Bernadette is NOT a national celebrity. This is not to say that she does not deserve recognition. hell, if LL Cool J can get one, so can she. Wayne Shorter?
A major sax innovator for hard boppers and fusionists alike, due to his influential tenures with Art Blakey, Miles Davis, and Weather Report.

She blew her chance right there.
Also, Who's That Girl?

Surely there are more people deserving of this award than Cher and Reba McEntire. This is so ridiculous. Is Cher going to show up with her tits and ass hanging out like she usually does?
by Anonymous | reply 113 | July 29, 2018 2:43 AM |
No R113, Cher is going to ask you to accept on her behalf with your sagging grey balls hanging out.
And BTW, let me know if you were still sought after and working regularly at 72.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | July 29, 2018 2:51 AM |
R114, you are obviously a silly Cher queen. And Cher may be "working" but she's still pathetically trying to look like a 25 year year old babe, so chances are she WILL accept her award with her plastic tits and ass hanging out.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | July 29, 2018 3:09 AM |
Liza Minnelli and Joni Mitchell both deserve this honor before they die. I have no problem with Cher or Reba being recognized. The Kennedy Center Honors were growing safe and stale even before Tr*mp was elected. The sad thing is that we always associate this even with the president. There once was a warm appreciation being shared,,,of great talents and great artists honoring the richness of life. I refused to watch last year but if Cher is showing up - then Tr*mp is nowhere in sight. Reba is getting this a bit early but they won't give it to LIZA for what reason? I am not even much of a fan of hers but why won't they give her this honor? She certainly deserves it.
Bette Midler wouldn't accept at this point. I have to say I admire those who turn it down. Best to retain your ability to say what you want to, everyday. Cher is outspoken only in the way a teenage girl is. Her statements (emojis) may read radical but she's too dumb and concerned with her own popularity to put in much real work. She championed accepting Trump as the disappointing president in the beginning.
Midler is very well informed and was always intelligent. She knows that you don't accept honors from dictators. Even by association.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | July 29, 2018 3:15 AM |
Cher championed Trump? You must be delerious. She's been bashing him for years and campaigned for Hillary all over the East coast on her own dime.
She has had so many death threats, her social media was being monitored by the FBI. Cher doesn't give a shit about her popularity in as much as she might lose some Deplorables.
Cher can't help she has dyslexia, hence the use of emojis. Although that's known as her thing now.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | July 29, 2018 3:41 AM |
AFTER trump won the election, Cher did tweet that people should support him. That's not unusual after an normal presidential race. She hates Trump but she recognized him as president and said that he should be accepted and given a chance. So did Marianne Williamson. I know because I unfollowed them both.
Cher is dyslexic - that's true. But she doesn't wipe her own ass or know how to use twitter, so don't confuse her fun career longevity with any kind of intelligence. She prefers to use emojis the way tweens love stickers. She has the intellectual development of a Cher.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | July 29, 2018 3:56 AM |
You all are welcome to create your own award and give it to whoever you damn well please.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | July 29, 2018 3:59 AM |
I think Yoko Ono deserves an honor more than Reba.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | July 29, 2018 4:10 AM |
R116, I can tell you know neither Cher or Bette by your posts. Or even met them. See ya.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | July 29, 2018 4:10 AM |
These awards are a fundraiser for the Kennedy Center, first and foremost. They have to balance the load to cast a wide enough net to cover various donor constituencies. It is also a social event for DC.
Incidentally, they also have to produce a telecast that will be picked up every year because having a televised network show happens to have more cachet than just sending out a press release after a banquet.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | July 29, 2018 4:15 AM |
It is beyond insulting that Liza Minnelli hasn't been honored yet. This is a disgrace. So rude of the Kennedy Center.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | July 29, 2018 4:29 AM |
I don't know Cher - who does? Her own children are barely familiar to her. But I do know Bette Midler and you are very much mistaken R121. We all can enjoy Cher for something. Only a fanatic would mistake her for a woman of intelligence. She's a dumb chick with worthwhile talents. Everyone has substance.
Midler is a woman. Outspoken and informed. Unwavering. Articulate. Every night she took to the stage of the Shubert theatre AFTER calling Trum* for treason and white nationalism, and his affiliates and family scum.
Cher is in a big bed, braiding her 75 year old best friend's hair and making prank calls, sober. They go Saturday night wild by eating lots of candy before they get on the treadmill and pretend they are the golden girls. Cher is old and corny as fuck. She sounds good on Super Trouper, she invented autotune & now she's perfected it. She's a good choice for your honor.

R124, Bette is a semi bitter cunt, partly because she's always been ugly. And an even uglier daughter and husband.. No problem being a Bette stan. Many are. But she's no educated visionary.
If Kenny Sascha rings a bell to you- then you know.

"I hope Cher wears her hair in classic Cher style...long, straight, parted down the middle."
What hair? She always wear a wig.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | July 29, 2018 5:37 AM |
Oh no, the Cher fanatic insists that Cher's real hair is more luxuriant and dark and thick and long than any wig. Cher only wears wigs to protect her natural hair beauty.

I really never expected that I would become a DL troll. But I think I now am. I'm the Johnny Mathis troll. I love him so much. Why doesn't he have a Kennedy Center Award? He's one of the most handsome men I've ever seen. He's gay. I think my boyfriend wouldn't mind if I flirted with him (even though we're quite monogamous).

She doesn't wear a wig in her private life.
She wears it long straight on IG = visiting her mom, birthday parties, Xmas, vacationing, lounging around the house, etc...
Since going to the KCH would be a "work" event I wager it will be a wig.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | July 29, 2018 5:42 AM |
"Cher only wears wigs to protect her natural hair beauty."
If she had "natural hair beauty" she wouldn't have to wear a wig. And just how would R134 know that she "doesn't wear a wig in her private life" and that she goes au naturale while "visiting her mom, Xmas, vacationing, lounging around the house?" Does R134 "lounge around the house" with her? I really don't think so.

I love Johnny Mathis too. Honestly. Listen to this 26 second held note!!! I wasn't born then but I love him. I think that Johnny and Cher should have a baby. He's stupendous and Cher is young.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | July 29, 2018 5:50 AM |
Thank you R136! I hadn't seen that clip before. Johnny Carson always acknowledged his excellence, as did Barbra. I want. so badly, for him to be recognized. I really think he's the most recognizable American singer.

When did Cher transition into David Gest?
by Anonymous | reply 138 | July 29, 2018 6:17 AM |
Gorgeous, all three of them, Cher, mother Georgia Holt and sister Georganne LaPiere

You're welcome R137. Mathis is a beautiful singer, even with that fast vibrato. His voice was first class and yeah, Streisand said that she admired him. He is the male singer most like her. Beautiful tone, purity and pitch, but also a big beautiful vocal range and gorgeous musicality. Mathis became a better singer than Streisand because he sings most every night of his life. Yeah, he deserves the Kennedy Center Honor long before Cher. But no one knows Mathis and some people under 50 know Cher. So Cher and Reba it is. Both for the exact same reason. MOD safe and recognizable. Still better than Estefan. #3safedemocrats

Her best friend of 40+ years has an IG where she posts pics of Cher Paulette has traveled with Cher everywhere for 40+ years. She's like an aunt to Chaz/Elijah and Cher is like an aunt 2 Paulette's 2 sons.. Cher is wig free in her private life. She's very casual in her day to day life.
Cher said a long ago she allowed them to curl/perm her hair for Mask and it badly damaged her hair. She wound up having to shave it. She said then she would never put her hair through that rigamorole. She'd use wigs for work stuff where she wanted curls, various colors, etc..
Her hair is long & straight but not to her waist like back in the day. It's around nipple length.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | July 29, 2018 7:04 AM |
Any casual Cher fan can tell her real hair. Look at her recent pics from her summer vacay. Long, same as before but not as luxurious. She's fucking 72.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | July 29, 2018 7:16 AM |
Cher is plastic, but it works. Her real hair is also plastic. Some of her wigs are from Party City and some involved the ritual murder of many young girls. No one really wants to see her 'real' hair or get too close either. Mamma Mia 2 scared some people. Cher is unclockable but still looks like some alien plastic freak. With her friends she looks like an old woman with a lot of cosmetic surgery.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | July 29, 2018 7:26 AM |
Lol, her friends all look like her. Loree Rodkin for example. The lips, long hair. She makes Cher look like an English rose.

R142. Cher's best friend is Paulette Betts, former wife of Dickey Betts, founding member of The Allman Brother Band.
Paulette Eghiazarian, 26, the daughter of a retired CIA operative and once Cher’s personal secretary, confidante and Armenian soulmate.

A Kennedy Center Honor back when it meant something special. A 7 minute intro from a sentimental superstar - then 7 minutes of the best dancing you can see, but would never get to see, and then Ray Charles with a simple tribute and one great song. Nothing rushed, not much cheap, and all great talents pay tribute.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | July 29, 2018 8:37 AM |
That didn't ruin her career. Cher had her biggest hit at 52 with Believe, and has been touring ever since. Plus, the $160 million she got for her first Vegas residency. We should all have such a ruined career.

Paulette's marriage to Dickie went bust way back in the day.
She's long been married to Bruce Howell of South Park

Hamilton is getting a special award solely to boost ratings.
No such thing as a Kennedy Center Honor special award until they noticed no one watched the show
by Anonymous | reply 161 | July 29, 2018 7:22 PM |
Last year was the lowest-rated ever, even though they went balls-to-the-wall with their whoring: Estefan, J (that's his last name, right?), Richie.
I enjoyed the broadcasts from the year of King, Ozawa (Aretha); the year of Cook, Streep (so many Broadway ladies, though no Chenoweth, odd); the year of Oprah; the year of Brubeck, Springsteen (Jon Stewart); the year of Letterman; the year of Streisand, the Who (Betty Lavette!).
by Anonymous | reply 162 | July 29, 2018 8:00 PM |
It's got nothing to do with the show. People just don't watch regular TV like they used to.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | July 29, 2018 8:14 PM |
Also, DVRing doesn't count in the ratings unless it's within 3 days AND you don't skip through the commercials.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | July 29, 2018 8:19 PM |
Also, the week after Christmas is awful for TV in general.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | July 29, 2018 8:20 PM |
It's always on the week after Christmas; that's part of the tradition and I like it. Last year was horrible because the designees were all horrible. Gloria Estefan? LL Cool J? Lionel Richie? Really? Pathetic.

EVERYTHING about Cher is fake, including her hair. She looks like an alien, as do all female celebrities who are addicted to plastic surgery.

by Anonymous | reply 171 | July 31, 2018 1:36 AM |
The show got way too overproduced in the last decade. The more recent tributes tended to be more about the guests they could get than in actually honoring the performer. The Carole King tribute was probably the best one since the early2000's. Streisand's was surprisingly weak. Shirley MacLaine's wasn't much better either.
Watch the earlier tributes. They're not as guest driven, but they get to the heart of the person they're honoring. Lucille Ball and Hepburn's are just wonderful.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | July 31, 2018 1:42 AM |
I'm guessing no one wanted to join the Shirley MacLaine tribute. I mean, Anna Kendrick? How do their worlds even intersect?

Maybe in previous lives, R173.

Reba McEntire has had as much plastic surgery as Cher; her face is like an impressionist painting, in that if you squint, it sort of looks how it once did. Her wretched CW sitcom was right up there (down there?) with Tyler Perry's House of Payne, one of the stupidest fucking things ever on TV. For the same amount of time as she had no.1 hits, she's spent just as much of her career singing covers of old sings from the '60s and '70s.
The only reason I can come up with for her being honored is like when American Idol lowered the age to enter and then ensured two teens who sang country music were no.'s 1 and 2—because country has a huge audience, and it sells. They must've needed a Red Stater.

They couldn't find anyone to come for Shirley McClain except for Kathy Bates. There was no one else. They brought down some Broadway singers and dancers to do some number that Shirley had done in movies. That was it.

They picked Paul MCartney years back. When they called him, he said his schedule was full on those dates and maybe they could make it another time. As far as I can tell, he wasn't asked again.

reba's covers of the Bobbie Gentry and Vicky Lawrence songs were horrible! she's not a very good singer and has no identifiable style to her vocals - which Cher has in spades
