John Huston in Chinatown
We all know that Chinatown is one of the greatest films of all time (and one of the best, if not THE best, neo-noir). But why was wasn't John Huston's incredible, performance as Noah Cross nominated for Best Supporting Actor? Robert Towne, the screenwriter of Chinatown, has said in many interviews that without his performance the film would have never worked as well as it did.
Hands down, one of the creepiest, most repulsive villains in film history!

He was nominated for a Golden Globe.
This a strange year. The Godfather Part II actors monopolized the category yet John Cazale who gave the most memorable supporting performance in the film got left out. Odd.

Because there was barely any scenery left after Huston got threw chewing it, swallowing it, regurgitating it then chewing it again, that’s why.

Because he was playing himself rather than acting.

Because the middlebrow (at best) academy wasn’t going to nominate someone for playing an incestuous pedophile.
