Tom Brady Bodyshamed on Social Media
He has a 20th century quarterback body in a Millennial ripped Aesthetics world.
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady remains at the top of the football world despite entering his 40s. He’s coming off a season in which he made his seventh Super Bowl appearance and threw for over 4,500 yards with the third-highest completion percentage (66.3) of his career. Yet, when a photo surfaced of him shirtless online this week, his accomplishments didn’t shield him from Internet users calling him out of shape.

He is very fit by real world standards but compared to most elite athletes he looks pretty blah. I find it funny that he's always been considered "football's hottest hunk" (or whatever) when he's not even the hottest guy on his own team.

[QUOTE]That's not even a dad bod. It's kind of misshapen and awkward-looking.
Exactly. It’s not the fact that he has a few extra pounds, it’s the complete absence of a masculine form. He’s awkward looking. He has the shoulders of a woman. I don’t know where he gets the power to fling a football the way he does.
Apparently he’s doing that vegan diet crap with no meat. He’s gonna end up saggy and skeletal like Bill Clinton.
Does this look like a world-class athlete? Somebody who trains in the gym frequently as required by his job? It’s weird. You know he must be lifting weights but you just can’t see any evidence of it.

Tom just doesn’t see the value in having a nice physique, even though he has the money and access to dieticians, nutritionists, cooks, and the best exercise equipment and facilities and trainers mankind has ever known. His talents are natural and he doesn’t need to lift weights to improve, therefore why do it? He’s like the guy with a big dick who’s lame in bed—what do I have to learn how to work my hips for when they’ll be excited enough just to take my hog for a ride.

Quarterbacks are generally long and lanky in there upper body. And their abilities are natural. Being all muscled up doesn’t help the range of motion for their throwing arm. Look at Tom Brady, Eli Manning and Aaron Rodgers... their body types and frames are similar for a reason. Colin Kapernick has a great body but he doesn’t have the range or the accuracy that any of the other 3 have. And let’s face it...Tom, Eli and Aaron might have what we call the dad bod. But we’d all fuck any of them in a heartbeat!

Kaepernick has a rocket for an arm. He may not have their level of accuracy but losing his muscle mass wouldn’t improve it.
Stop making excuses for these guys. They just don’t want to do what it takes to develop a nice body. Being leaner and more muscular wouldn’t hurt Tom Brady’s game one bit.

Despite not having bulging abdominal muscles and veins popping on their arms, guys can still be quite athletic and strong. Also, for most of these dudes, these pics were taken in the off-season when they weren't following as strict a diet or workout. I can tell that most of you all don't know anything about Tom and his TB12 regimen. If you are interested, and I doubt that you are, watch the Tom vs Time documentary on Facebook.
Tom's full time trainer(he actually has an office and workout room at the Pats' facility in Gillette Stadium) dictates every bite of food which goes into hi mouth as well as the workouts and daily body work and massages given to TB.
They strongly believe in flexibility and long muscles. The believe in "bend not break." And you know what? It's working pretty well for him.

by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 24, 2018 10:20 AM

For some athletes, depending on their sport/position, flexibility is the name of the game.
Roger Federer, for instance, is another world class athlete who looks average in terms of his body. Lifting weights to increase bulk does nothing for your flexibility. Indeed it can be a detriment, putting additional pressure on joints and ligaments.
Some have a theory that another all-time-great, Tiger Woods, had a body that started to break down earlier in his career because he was more focused on building muscle mass than on flexibility and longevity.

I was just about to post about him. The team's doctors and trainers think that guy's a quack and last year Belichick banned him from the sidelines, the stadium, the team plane, etc. There was a lot of publicity about it at the time but it was overshadowed by all the drama about whether Tom would retire, whether Garappolo should be re-signed, whether Belichick would leave if he wasn't, etc.
Just google Alex Guerrero , there's lots of dirt out there about the guy.

[QUOTE]They strongly believe in flexibility and long muscles. The believe in "bend not break." And you know what? It's working pretty well for him.
It’s working pretty well for him because he’s Tom friggin Brady. I doubt he’d be any worse if he built his body up a little more. But he just doesn’t prioritize those things and that’s fine. If he was Tom Brady the hedge fund manager, he’d have the same body. Has nothing to do with that trainer. The trainer works around what Tom wants.

The man has won 5 Super Bowl rings--entire goddamn hand worth of them--and literally a gazillion MVPs awards etc. Not mention he’s been on every stupid “Hottest man on Earth” blahblabha list since forever. My points is...a bunch of Cheetos eating keyboard jockeys who have done NOTHING of note--and could stand to get into a gym themselves--are actually body shaming an insanely successful athlete because he hasn’t made obtaining a six-pack so that he can dance around hopped on MDMA at his local gay club a priority.

I’m assuming that you’re not from the US because Brady is pretty much the Captain America of AMERICAN football. Hence the “America” part, so your dismissal of that title isn’t nearly as impressive as you want it to be. Also, your pity for him not having “Looked after himself” is simply a vapid and superficial delusion that gay men continue to perpetuate because only a gay man would body shame Tom Brady. Not unlike whores, professional athletes and models make their living with their bodies. Their bodies are their "product". It is fair game to evaluate the product. Call it body shaming if you want to, but if someone is making $20.5 million per year (Brady's salary) to play 17 regular season games. boo hoo of widdle Tom's feelings are hurt that people think he's out of shape. I bet he's crying all the way to the bank. I just hope he's keeping some of that money IN the bank, cuz his playing days are numbered.

[quote]Google young Kate Moss, she used to be considered extremely sexy back in her day.
Of course, I know who Kate Moss is. I did make a reference to the "heroin chic"look she was almost solely responsible for popularizing in the '90s before Giselle with the boobs burst onto the scene and other models with larger tits followed. I don't even know what you are thinking bringing ghetto Kardashian into a discussion about high end fashion models and the female form. Kim's freakish, unaesthetic figure would never be glorified in Paris or Milan.
And, no, just no. It what universe was Kate Moss considered "extremely sexy" by straight men? Google Baywatch. The early to mid Nineties were all about Baywatch-type girls with curves, boobs and hips. Kate Moss was considered sexy by Johnny Depp and gay fashionistas, FFS.

To those saying quarterbacks are not normally buff, you need to keep up with modern football. Cam Newton, Russell Wilson, Alex Smith, Josh Allen, Andrew Luck, Jimmy G, Dak Prescott, Blaine Gabbert, EJ Manuel, Josh Freeman, Christian Ponder, Jake Locker, Robert Griffin III, Derek Carr, Ryan Tannehill, and hellahot Mark Sanchez. The newer generation of qbs is even more into weightlifting and the me aesthetics physique craze. These dudes intentionally double as hot male fitness models in magazines and shirtless thirst traps on social media. Even Aaron Rodgers has a nice fit Gym Aesthetics physique.

No one is claiming quarterbacks functionally have to be jacked or ripped to be great at their position. The point is their is a marked, observable trend of today’s quarterbacks being much more muscular than those of previous generations. The same can be said of all athletes. Even golfers

r141 there's something to the flexibility theory, especially for older athletes. It's helped goalies in the NHL increase their longevity and reduce injuries. That said, they don't have the definition, but they also don't have the flab. That rookie pic was horrendous.

From the comments on this thread, it's pretty apparent that few know anything about creating and maintaining a natural healthy physique (admittedly, some do and congrats to you), especially for men 30+. The simple fact is that after a certain age, maintaining the typical male Instagram-worthy body to which the public has become accustomed (well-beyond any point considered healthy) is not only difficult to achieve, but also an investment of diminishing returns. For athletes under the age of 30 (more likely 25 though), maintaining a diet and cut physique is relatively easy. Once that metabolism slows down, it's a different matter. Tom Brady could definitely achieve a more cut physique, and I don't think anyone doubts that. He could cut calories, train very hard, like anyone over 30 can. But the fact that he's in his 40s has to be take into account. Of course his body isn't in the same echelon as some 20-something body builder or athlete. But to compare him to that is crappy. For an athlete as competitive (and successful) as he is, lifting weights simply for the sake of looking hot is probably not the best use of his physical resources. The truth is, strength training, specifically geared at building muscle (as opposed to what old ladies do), is very hard on the body generally. It can mess up joints, diminish range of motion, create tension and aching. Anyone who has ever lifted weights seriously knows this. And it has nothing to do with proper form, having a trainer, etc. There is a point where the body, especially after a certain age, just isn't going to respond well. As someone in his 30s who does actively maintain a (generally) enviable physique, I can personally attest to how hard it is. I am strong, but my limbs, joints are worked so hard that I would be surprised if I could throw a ball 10 yards. Getting to that physique takes its toll, and realistically, for him, the cost (possible injury, loss of range, etc) is simply not worth the benefits (guys on DL praising hi for being hot). Like someone said above, six packs have nothing to do with how strong a person is, and to be using 20-something athletes and IG bro-hos as the standard is bad form.

R153, take a look at his pic upthread when he was young. His body was pudgy then too. And r138, not everyone cheats. Your post was typical whataboutism so prevalent in politics today. The league took the cheating seriously. (Even though they destroyed the tapes that the Patriots made so no one could examine the extent of their cheating). And they continued to cheat after the Spygate. They won their first group of SBs prior to Spygate. After they were exposed, they didn’t win another until Deflategate, and haven’t won one since.

r160 no it's not "whatabout" bullshit, it's pointing out the context that was widely discussed when it happened. Teams try to gain competitive advantages in sport all the time, including the NFL. And implying they only win when they cheat has nothing to do with whether or not it happens throughout the league.

r187 it wasn't just JG's hotness, it was his ceiling. Brady couldn't handle being eclipsed. Brady also strikes me as a bit needy, and Belichick took to JG for some reason. I think that hurt Brady's ego because he wanted the status of Belichick's notoriously parsimonious personal attention.
