Is it just me or does that look like... it [italic]doesn't[/italic] suck that much, like we were all expecting?
r1 In what way?

looks like it could be fun

I mean, I'm still not willing to say they pulled the rabbit from the hat, but it looks tonally appropriate.
The costume is still padded.

The padding looks comical, and not necessarily in a bad way. The only thing that really bothers me is his dye job. Just unfortunate. I thought movie studios were supposed to employ the best hair colourists in the biz?

R5 Um.... Shazam is from a comic. You wanted realism?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 21, 2018 9:12 PM
|
I think the shoe-shine hair is intentional. I just don't know if it reads well on screen.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 21, 2018 9:14 PM

r6 I'm talking about good taste, not realism. And the two aren't mutually exclusive.
There's a big black hole where his hair is supposed to be.

Poor Mark Strong, he's such a good actor and he has to take such dreck to keep working.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 21, 2018 9:18 PM

r9 He really is. And so handsome as well. I don't know how that Deep State TV show of his is doing, but I'm sure he doesn't mind that much getting some of that sweet comic book movie money on the side.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 21, 2018 9:23 PM
|
R5, you’re ridiculous. He’s meant to look like a kid’s Idea of a comic book super hero. He is supposed to look like a cartoon character.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 21, 2018 9:46 PM
|
They should have cast Sinbad. That would have been one Mandela effect corrected.

Is this the movie with Shaq as a genie?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 21, 2018 9:53 PM

r11 In my opinion, it doesn't translate well to the screen and it looks ridiculous. Of course, you're perfectly entitled to disagree with that opinion. Doesn't diminish it in any way.

The villain should be Mr Mind, the World's Wickedest Worm. If you're doing Shazam, go utterly batshit.

No, R10, I'm sure he didn't mind "New Sherlock Holmes" money either, it just makes me a little sad for him.

The Aquaman trailer is so much better than this.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 21, 2018 10:03 PM
|
Beyond horrible. A mockery of a once great character.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 21, 2018 10:29 PM
|
Oh boy... It looks awful. In the comic, Shazam does not behave like his 13 years old alter ego.

Jackson Bostwick - hot or not?

So the "Shazam" thing doesn't work on his peepee?

r19 But how is that even possible when he hasn't matured like a normal person? Wouldn't this version make more sense, then?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 21, 2018 11:08 PM

r21 The yellow light does his face no favours in that shot, and he's a handsome guy otherwise.
I guess the bulge had to be as small as possible because it's a family movie?

Looks like Big meets Spider-Man with a dash of Thor. Not sure if the fanboys will go for it but it looks like it could be goofy fun.

I thought of that Sinbad "movie" as soon as I saw Shazam trending on Twitter, R12.

I was prepared to hate it, but it looks surprisingly charming.

Do we think Levi being an outspoken churchie and urging people to vote for a third party in 2016 will hurt the movie? Because if there ever was a time when that shit comes out to bite people in the ass, it's definitely now with the culture wars raging left and right.

I always thought it was Barry Bostwick on Shazam.

Completely disagree. The Aquaman trailer looked like crap, this looks like a surprisingly fun romp.
And I say this even though I desperately want to sleep with Momoa but think Levi is an annoying fundie creep.

This will be a good movie for the kids.

I abhor comic movies but this does look like fun. Whoever said it has elements of Big is correct. And that Jennifer Garner movie where she ages overnight; I forget the name of it and can't be bothered to look it up. It looks cute.

I posted on /r/DC_cinematic saying that this looks like a good kids movie and I got downvoted.

From the director, David F. Sandberg, when someone complained that it doesn't have enough CG pizzaz:
[quote]None of the vfx in this early trailer are final so things might look quite different in the final film. That’s definitely a shot that will continue to be tweaked.

r34 Those bitches are awful. They probably saw it as the worst insult imaginable.

This movie doesn't even come out til 8 more months, post-production is just getting started.
Yeah DC_cinematic is a joke r36. Of course those Snyder-worshipping bitches take a kids movie thing as an insult.
This is all fun kids wish fulfillment. That is the whole premise, a superman loving kid who gains the ability to magically transform into a Superman.

It's a DC superhero--the movie will be crap.
Plus, where's ISIS???
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 23, 2018 7:38 PM

I think Isis just might be on the bench for the next fifty years, for obvious reasons.

I'm too old for this movie but hope it does well. I have a different view of what Shazam should look like.

The comics version of Isis is on Legends of Tomorrow, although she's not called that, for the reasons you mention. She's just called by her name, Zari.

r47 I didn't know that. Zari's a cute name.
