The driver or the passengers? It’d say the passengers
It was the driver's fault. The passengers are not driving/operating the throttle; the driver is.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 21, 2018 4:44 AM |
The passengers’ fault. Their lives and they could have asked the bald guy to slow down but they didn’t.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 21, 2018 5:00 AM |
The driver obviously does not know how to pilot a speed boat. One is supposed to drive directly into a wake at a perpendicular angle, if possible. You can see in the video that they start to hit another boat’s wake. It was the forth wave that was the big one that knocked the driver over, so he should not only have seen it coming, but also felt the previous three.
I was invited out on a boat in a couple weeks, but I know the couple have poor judgement. He’s got that weird machismo thing where he’d rather endanger other people than appear, in his view, weak somehow, apparently, and he’s not very bright. They intend to cross Long Island Sound and I hope they have rented a boat big enough. So, I’m not going.

by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 21, 2018 5:08 AM |
Why would the passengers be at fault? The driver was showing off or whatever, he was being an idiot.

It's only the diriver's fault. The passengers did nothing to interfere with his driving, and he was driving too fast.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 21, 2018 5:16 AM |
All of them looked so uncomfortable. Agree I would have screamed and demanded the driver to slow the fuck down. I don’t want to die stupidly
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 21, 2018 5:17 AM |
The driver is a macho-moron. He operates the throttles as if he were operating a manual gear shit. The only thing that saved their lives is his hand slams down the throttles (into reverse, slowing the boat) as he deservedly hits the deck like a downed bowling pin!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 21, 2018 5:19 AM |
They all wanted the driver to do that. Why do you think they put the camera up! DUH. people!

Yes and for such an old video it's odd there are so many new comments on youtube. Maybe OP is one of them.

Funny-- I just watched this vid earlier today, despite the fact this vid is years old.
Does YouTube randomly choose old videos that are then recommended to everyone?
And that's a pretty dumbass question OP. How the hell would an accident ever be the fault of the passengers (unless they were distracting the driver somehow)?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 21, 2018 5:27 AM |
I never understood "the need for speed" and bow to never drive in a car again with someone who shows they don't give two shits about their passengers' safety. One time, an acquaintance drove a few of us home. I wasn't happy when the first thing she did was take a few puffs of a joint, and even less when she almost drove into a highway divider to cut across a few lanes of traffic at the last minute to get off at an exit. Never drove in her car again. I don't get the appeal of speedboats. I've been on them two or three times, and even with safe drivers I find the whole process uncomfortable.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 21, 2018 5:28 AM |
The passengers encouraged and enabled the driver.

Or they wanted the driver to go fast because they all are show offs? Have none of you been on a speed boat? It's a speed boat for a reason.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 21, 2018 5:29 AM |
The passengers encouraged and enabled the driver.
I don't really see that. And even if they had, that would hold no weight in court whatsoever.
Unless they actively [italic]interfered[/italic] with his driving, he is to blame for the accident. The end.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 21, 2018 5:30 AM |
The passengers encouraged and enabled the driver.
Like how? He never once looked at them, let alone spoke to them.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 21, 2018 5:34 AM |
Did they hold a gun to his head? Do you drive faster if a passenger tells you to? Of course it’s the driver’s fault. He was operating the vehicle.
Having said that, these people do all look like douchebags who deserved it. My favorite part is before the crash when the woman in the pink gets all upset over a broken nail and gets all dramatic. Then, just as she’s heroically pulled herself back together, she gets her sunglasses ripped off and face slammed into the side of the boat.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 21, 2018 5:36 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 21, 2018 12:16 PM |
Definitely drunk. Sorry for laughing at the driver as he fell hard to the floor but damn that was funny. Was once in an 18 ft. boat that the driver fitted out with a 350 hp car engine. He accidentally pulled back the transmission lever at 60 knots and put it in neutral. The boat actually submerged nose first and came flying out of the water like it was blasting off to mars. I was wedged between the front seat and the windshield but everyone else fell out. Nobody was seriously hurt.

The article @ R45 says that the lake they were on in Missouri has no daytime speed limit. WTF?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 21, 2018 1:09 PM |
Most don’t, R71. It’s not like they can install speed limit signs on the lake. They rely on patrols and captains to do the right thing and boat safely. Plus, if there’s no speed limit, you can receive a ticket for unsafe operation regardless of your speed if you’re not being reasonable.
Depending on where you live, we've all seen people driving way too fast for the road conditions, i.e., wet roads or snow, but they’re not technically going over the speed limit.
Most boaters are reasonable and know the limits of not only their craft, but their skills in the conditions also. This guy wasn’t, was showing off and the lake spanked him. I can’t stop laughing. Especially the pink bitch at the end whining, “I want someone to drive!”
I just find the whole thing hysterical. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

R84 I don’t know! Once it started rocking I like to think I would sit down and hold on. But if every other person including the driver was calmly standing and showing no sign of concern, I would probably feel like I was overreacting by being nervous.

R105, it wasn’t initially apparent there was trouble. The boat didn’t capsize or begin to sink or anything outwardly visible that there was a problem. Also, I found this which makes it all a lot less funny and more perplexing. The driver knew better:
"Hey guys, I was a passenger in this boat during the accident. Yes, there are many cardinal rules broken. The most important one I feel is no life jackets worn. As crazy as it seems, we had jackets for each person but as the poker run began we realized no one else was wearing them..... How foolish we were. I have read so many nasty comments on YouTube and other sites I am in shock. My wife suffered 4 broken ribs, punctured lung and a broken foot. She has not left the house since getting home. She is in severe pain. The driver crushed his eye orbital and broke hus back at T8 ( he is a former F-2 racer with APBA). Another passenger who raced professionally for many years broke his pelvis in several places and is in a wheelchair. One of the other girls crushed her eye orbital also. The guy from lake tv fractured his hip and broke his wrist. My injuries were minor compared, busted my head open and damaged a rib or two. Everyone is black and blue. This was a very upsetting event for everyone involved. I have been around powerboats for many years and it only takes on unguarded minute to loose a life or permanently hurt people you love. I am very thankful this did not end up worse. I hope everyone learns from this. I know I will boat differently. All of the guys in the boat are members of OSO. I think it is necessary to break down the accident and discuss this, just remember these are real people who like you who love power boating and do it every weekend."

I was on a small sailboat a few years ago where the captain was going to fast, I felt. He asked me to climb up on the bow to fiddle with something, though not to slow us, mind you. I’m too old for that shit. I though I might slide off into the ocean and just said that I wouldn’t. I felt like a dope but didn’t feel safe.
I grew up with boats, and know that you don’t mess around. A boat that is rising on a wave can crush you against a dock instantly. Ropes can catch a limb and pull you one way or another. It’s easy to be safe, but it’s not like riding in a car with all the safety equipment, or riding an escalator, or whatever. You have to be attentive and experienced.

If they’d been wearing life jackets and simply been ejected into the water, I think they would have come out with fewer broken bones and punctured organs, provided they didn’t fly head-on into a jet ski or the propeller of another speedboat.
The geniuses behind Final Destination franchise should be studying this as closely as the rest of the world.

See R3. It was another boat’s wake.

R128; see R94.

R32 I've been on tons of speed boats - not all of us are fat, basement-dwelling, scared-of-nature fem queens like you.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | July 21, 2018 10:10 PM |
The guy who was piloting the boat is at fault. The passengers of the boat should have been wearing life vests and should have been seated. The pilot should have insisted on it. I wonder if alcohol was involved. It's unbelievable how many people have a few and then get behind the helm of a speedboat.
They are incredibly lucky that they did not sustain more serious injuries or thrown overboard. Going at that high rate of speed, they could have broken their necks if they were thrown overboard.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | July 21, 2018 10:22 PM |
It sounds like the injuries were pretty serous, R134.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | July 21, 2018 10:40 PM |
Obviously, the driver is a Trump supporter
by Anonymous | reply 136 | July 21, 2018 10:45 PM |
I read the comments on the linked site after I posted here, R135. They're still incredibly lucky. The pilot and the young woman slammed into the side of the boat or the bulkhead. It's like slamming into the dashboard in a car accident.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | July 21, 2018 11:14 PM |
Tried again with all of this new additional information.
Nope. Still can’t watch it without laughing. I’m going to be like them and bust a rib, but it’ll be from laughing.

This was from four years ago. Good to know DL is on the pulse of the latest news.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | July 21, 2018 11:47 PM |
We know that, R139. It got bumped up in the wake (see what I did there?) of the Duck Boat accident.
Nobody’s saying this is breaking news.

And yet again today - no OP for this thread.
Which fucking troll is this and why did she go back to this old browser?

No it didn't. It was posted less than 24 hours ago.

It was the slut’s fault.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | July 21, 2018 11:59 PM |
R143 which one of the sluts is considered “the”?
by Anonymous | reply 144 | July 22, 2018 12:00 AM |
Just before OP posted, I sent a link to this on YouTube to my family in response to an invite to cross Long Island Sound by speedboat by the least responsible of us all. This video is a classic and will be viewed 20 years from now. It’s Hubris!
by Anonymous | reply 145 | July 22, 2018 12:00 AM |
The details at R113 are absolutely grisly. Most of those people have a life long price to pay for their injuries.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | July 22, 2018 12:01 AM |
I'm impressed by the woman in yellow bikini who held onto the railing while the others flew around the boat.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | July 22, 2018 12:17 AM |
Yeah, but she couldn’t save those sunglasses!
by Anonymous | reply 148 | July 22, 2018 12:19 AM |
It's the smug smile on pink bikini girl that makes the comeuppance so satisfying.

I read the comments in R130. This seems to be a speed sport with mostly naked people. No protective gear, as there should be. Speeds of 50 to 100 mph or more. Lots of denial in the comments. Of course accidents like this are going to happen to naked, standing, people on a crowded, choppy lake. Stupid beyond belief as they were apparently quite experienced and ought to know better.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | July 22, 2018 12:23 AM |
Is there a source somewhere revealing how was they went?

I loves yous, R151!
by Anonymous | reply 153 | July 22, 2018 12:28 AM |
I’m not convinced the post describing their injuries is really from someone who was on the boat either.
None of them were screaming in agony, moaning, or otherwise making aural indications of extreme pain.
Fractured hips, fractured limbs, pneumothoraces are exceptionally painful injuries, and nobody was unconscious, thereby somewhat masking their response to those injuries.
That’s not to say I don’t believe they weren’t injured, just not as severely as the person who claims to have been there is making it sound.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | July 22, 2018 12:31 AM |
The way the driver falls over is quite something.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | July 22, 2018 12:37 AM |
They all looked so angry and unhappy even before the crash.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | July 22, 2018 12:41 AM |
^^That’s called our “cool, detached look” R156. Douchebags like us are great at pulling that off.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | July 22, 2018 12:45 AM |
R151 how fast they went?
by Anonymous | reply 158 | July 22, 2018 12:48 AM |
Into the bulkhead and onto the floor? I’d say pretty fast.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | July 22, 2018 12:56 AM |
As soon as I saw this video, I knew it had to be from the Lake of the Ozarks. It is douche central.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | July 22, 2018 1:05 AM |
Why are all of the men wearing long t-shirts and long shorts and the women are dressed like whores with their tits and cunts hanging out?
Just asking...

You have to stand up to see anything in a boat going that fast. The people in the front are almost upright in the seats, including the driver, so they can see. Plus it's more comfortable to stand in the front , if possible, due to jolts and vibrations. Those in the back have no chance of seeing whether seated or standing due to the angle of the boat. It's not as jolting sitting in the back because you're lower in the water and get less shock.
Have none of you bitches ridden in boats before?
by Anonymous | reply 164 | July 22, 2018 3:54 AM |
The driver looks like he faints and then just drops. That grizzled chicken in the yellow bikini has been through worse in her life. Little boat action and nuthin to her.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | July 22, 2018 4:47 AM |
That mangy old lady in the bikini has a pierced belly button. Yeah, she's so hip and sexxxxxay.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | July 22, 2018 4:51 AM |
They were going 100 mph or more.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | July 22, 2018 1:55 PM |
Link please, R167.
Not buying it.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | July 22, 2018 2:01 PM |
Only on a gay site would the hot girl the the yellow/green bikini be called "grizzled", "mangy" and "old". LOL.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | July 22, 2018 2:06 PM |
R168, please see the link at R130. Now I have some old tomatoes to sell you. Speeds 65-100 mph, or more.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | July 22, 2018 2:52 PM |
R127 - I agree - it looks like she kept her head, checked her friends and was the first to summon help. It also looks as if she was suspecting that the driver might not be in full control of what was going on.
I could believe there were severe injuries. We don't see the driver and one of the male passengers after the crash; the girl in pink looks stunned.
They really do radiate "douchebag" in the beginning. But then pretty much everyone who has ever been photographed on a speedboat radiates douchebag to me, so perhaps my opinion is skewed.
by Anonymous | reply 171 | July 22, 2018 3:15 PM |
Why they fuck were they even taping this? What would be the point of that? And although I'm sure they were injured, there is no way they were injured to the extent described in the comment from someone who claims he was on the boat.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | July 22, 2018 3:43 PM |
They were going 100 mph or more.

by Anonymous | reply 173 | July 22, 2018 3:49 PM |
Luckily, all the passengers were properly seated and wearing life jackets. Oh wait, no they weren't.
by Anonymous | reply 174 | July 22, 2018 4:11 PM |
They needed a bigger boat.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | July 22, 2018 4:15 PM |
What law of science is the reason that those bikini tops didn't fly off as those women were tossed to the floor?
by Anonymous | reply 176 | July 22, 2018 4:55 PM |
^ This thread would have already hit 600 if it were a boat full of Instagram gays in Speedos.
My Shadenfreude would have been equally sated.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | July 22, 2018 5:15 PM |
R170, first of all, the link provided is hundreds of comments. I’m not going through them to find out which person, who presumably wasn’t an accident reconstruction specialist, estimated they were going that fast.
Secondly, there’s a HUGE difference between 65mph and 100mph. How the fuck can someone estimate they were going “between 65 and 100”?! That’s absurd.
The average cigarette boat, the ones that are designed for racing, go an average of 90mph on calm waters, not a choppy lake.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | July 22, 2018 5:29 PM |
Obviously the passengers’ fault. They let the asshole drive the boat and didn’t stop him. Their fault
