I am a big fan of the novels of James Lee Burke, and I've always pictured him as Burke's main character Dave Robicheaux.

He was a terrific Capt. Jeffrey MacDonald. That's how I remember him.

Has anyone mentioned American Gothic? It only lasted one season but it's certainly one of Gary's career highlights. Way ahead of its time horror series, which would fit in perfectly and be acclaimed now, but fell through the cracks 20 yrs ago. Fox also didn't help airing many of the episodes out of sequence. Gary's son was played by Lucas Black in his debut role. Also Sarah Paulson in an early role.

I'm his age and have aged similarly. I think he probably has a decent lifestydle. He's also had the right kind of career--a mostly tv leading man but not an A-listerer. probably easier to transition to more character and age-appropriate parts. It's te the male ingenues that end up looking Asian and unable to show facial expressions.
