Here he is, we see Ponch all decked out in a speedo, looking hot and muscular and John has to wear a shirt on the beach to cover up for what he lacks.
It was Larry Wilcox I liked. Always the more humble and honorable character. I like that his character was a simple cop doing an honest job. And he open a door to be being gay I had never explored before. The tonnage of cum I wasted on the the thought of that man could fill the Great Divide.

Larry didn't have to escort on the side to afford hair gel like the other one did.

I don't think Wilcox ever took his shirt off on the show, much to my dismay. I was never interested in Estrada, who was always so full of himself. I think he had to go undercover as a male stripper on the show once. Right. You know he had that written in so he could take his clothes off.

I know that's true! When he was on that reality show with Tammy Faye Baker, Vanilla Ice and Ron Jeremy, he was walking around in a towel and he turns to the camera, unwraps the towel and flashes the camera. He's a total exhibitionist.

When Estrada went on strike they brought in Caitlyn to replace him and the show's ratings tanked hard and they were forced to give in to his demands.
When Wilcox left, they said, "Don't let the door hit you in the ass," and replaced him with the much cuter Bruce (after a stop gap druggie)

Yeah, I gather Wilcox was a total dick and Estrada wasn’t too bad albeit a tad cocky.

14 year old me was hot for Larry Wilcox back then because my 8th grade crush was a big strapping blond classmate who looked a lot like him. Now, looking back, I'd be into Eric Estrada's latin looks and Speedo wardrobe, though he does come off as a dick.

You guys did not see the lost episode? Ponch and Johnny are cruising what would become later the Century Freeway, after a pre-shift info meeting at the HQ that concerned a hippie group forcing stranded motorists to smoke dope as Ponch holds a grudge over Johnny not respecting his roller skating skills. Later,as luck would have it, Johnny invited Ponch to a roller skating disco night on La Brea, and on the Santa Monica Frwy, Johnny's Corvette clunks out. The drug hippies arrive in a painted van, and Ponch and Johnny go undercover. After sitting in the back of the van, the three hippies overpower them and force them to smoke.
Walt Disney was hired to do the next ten minutes of animation depicting the bad trip Ponch and Johnny have that involves the genie from "Our Friend The Atom", and Thumper from Bambi.
After the bad trip, Ponch and Johnny wake up behind an Alpha-Beta and using Johnny's tire tread expertise track down to a house where they call back up and all hippies are arrested.
Ponch and Johnny make the disco skating party late, and Ponch wins best skater of the night. Ponch looks at Johnny and says he suddenly is looser now, and winks at Johnny. All including Sergeant Joe laugh heartily!

The show did not last long after Wilcox left and ended up cancelled after one Wilcox-less season. It is possible the show was at its end anyway, but I think a big part of the show was the chemistry between Wilcox and Estrada. Wilcox's down-to-earth character was a nice balance with always on, slightly hyper Ponch. Bruce might have been cute, but he was not a strong enough presence to balance Ponch. And while Ponch had a better body, Wilcox was not exactly chopped liver, esp for the time.
Of course the show might have ended because they ran out of cars to have explode by simply sliding off the freeway.
I also don't blame Wilcox for leaving, because it was the Ponch show by the end with each show having some contrived extended scene showing him dancing a line dance or disco or doing some cheesy 70's activity to show off his stuff while he was grinning like he was on something.
Chris Pine's dad was not too bad either.

I had the BIGGEST crush on Larry when I was a lad, probably no more than 7 or 8. He was the first man I lusted after, I remember masturbating thinking about him, before I really understood what I was doing.
I distinctly remember getting the latest edition of DYNAMITE magazine with him on the cover. Inside, there were pictures of him with his WIFE and SON. I was heartbroken and devastated.
Too soon.

Just shows what a great actor he was to play such a humble, honorable man.
I do remember being a little bummed when I saw that in the news.

A more recent version of Ponch and Jon (from last year's Battle of the Network Stars reboot.)

Opening credits for the season after Wilcox; Tom Reilly had a body and going by the opening credit clips there's one episode he's wearing swimtruncks.

R4, that was debunked. Even Tammy Faye admitted that he had swim trunks on but it was blurred out to make it seem like he was naked. That actually does make it a joke. He's going to flash but has something on.
As for Wilcox, he was well liked by NBC. When they were pitching Miami Vice, they wanted him instead of Don Johnson, which is a joke.

Maybe 20 years ago I was at Steamworks in Chicago and inside the locker I had, someone had written in black marker, “Erik Estrada used this locker on...” and then whatever date in the past they had written. Now I know anyone could have written that and it may have been completely untrue, but I liked thinking that it was true and that an employee had rushed to the locker with a black marker as soon as Erik had checked out.

You KNOW Estrada wrote that himself.

I though Wilcox was adorable.
He also had a beautiful head of wavy blond hair that looked good short or longer. I like to think the sandy color was completely natural.

I am still attracted in some ways to the same type of men I liked on television as a yearling gay. Michael Landon, Robert Conard, Bert Ward, the Dukes Boys. I know a judge who has a lawyer clerk that looks like a young Richard Roundtree. All the men on the soaps. I could go for an aged Patrick Duffy any day! Those men would give me a boner every time and I can still remember the scary and pleasure parts of those boners.
