In what ways are you still a child?

I don’t like coffee.

I don’t like the taste of most alcohol.

I like video games.

I like immature humor.

Lastly, there’s this. There was a time when people would celebrate me all the time. They would pinch my cheeks and tell me I was cute. They would pick me up. They would buy me candy. They would applaud if I used a nice turn of phrase. Sure, I was a toddler, but I remember that stuff. But, at some point, all that stopped. So, I feel like I need to say something. We have a huge problem in this world. Apparently, people seem to think that I must at some point have signed on to a memo saying that it was okay to stop pampering and celebrating my every action. This, DL, I assure you, is fake news! I never agreed to any of this. I hope you realize that this is non-consensual non-pampering. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

by Anonymousreply 115June 27, 2018 9:05 PM

I can still lift you OP

by Anonymousreply 1June 23, 2018 3:28 AM

In keeping with modern parlance, you are “involuntarily un-pampered”! Horrors!

by Anonymousreply 2June 23, 2018 3:30 AM

I don't understand this.

by Anonymousreply 3June 23, 2018 3:32 AM

I also dont' like the taste of alcohol (only the sweet ones). I don't like coffee. I don't like any type of fish or seafood. I vastly prefer sweet food.

by Anonymousreply 4June 23, 2018 3:45 AM

I like adult onesies to sleep in.

by Anonymousreply 6June 23, 2018 3:48 AM

OP, it sounds like you have what it takes to be president

by Anonymousreply 7June 23, 2018 3:50 AM

I, too, don’t like the taste of alcohol and coffee, as well as vegetables.

I have the since of humor of a 12-year-old.

I have some dolls/action figures in my closet.

I sometimes watch old kids shows from my childhood.

by Anonymousreply 8June 23, 2018 3:53 AM

That should’ve said, “most vegetables.”

by Anonymousreply 9June 23, 2018 3:54 AM

I LOVE superhero movies, Universal Studios, Disney World and any fruit flavored candy (nerds, starbursts, now & later, skittles, blow pops).

by Anonymousreply 10June 23, 2018 3:55 AM

Don’t like the taste of alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, seafood, most vegetables. I also don’t cook. I buy most of my meals from Trader Joe’s and do carry out. The funny thing is most people would think I’m sophisticated because I’ve been all over the world and speak three languages. I’m very entertaining at dinner parties. I however have been unsuccessful at most relationships with gay men because I don’t drink and somehow I get stuck dating the barfly lol
I have some dolls/action figures in my closet. lol R8

by Anonymousreply 12June 23, 2018 3:58 AM

I have never drunk a cup of coffee.

I have never smoked a marijuana cigarette.

I have never bottomed, only topped.

I have eaten fish only several times in my lifetime.

I hate science fiction and animation movies.

by Anonymousreply 13June 23, 2018 3:59 AM

I don't understand it either r3, as I matured I had the good sense to put aside childish things. I drink and enjoy coffee (with cream/milk, no sugar--if Turkish coffee I like it black and sweet) and I like cocktails and wine, beer is OK, but it has to be good beer, many American beers are barely mediocre. Children pick their noses instead of using a tissue OP, do you still do that? I don't enjoy video games, just walking through one of those arcades with tons of them gets on my nerves--it would seem to be a waste of time and money. I don't know what you mean by immature humor. Are you irresponsible OP? Do you throw your clothes on the floor after wearing them and not pick them up? Do you need to be reminded several times to get a certain thing done? Do you not listen when someone is trying to tell you something? All of these are childish things far better left behind. The way fraus are described here makes me think they're childish. Maturity is something for which one strives throughout life I suppose, or should.

by Anonymousreply 14June 23, 2018 4:01 AM

I wear a diaper and regularly fling it on the wall when full.

by Anonymousreply 15June 23, 2018 6:09 AM

How does not liking or drinking coffee make one a child? That makes no sense.

I'm with you on alcohol.

Sometimes I rewatch some of the anime I saw as a kid.

by Anonymousreply 20June 23, 2018 7:30 AM

I'd be too afraid to change a car tire on my own. Earlier today I called my dad for automobile advice. I'm 42.

I feel that owning a house is too grown-up for me. So are driving very long distances, leading a meeting at work, investing in stocks (aside from my retirement account), or hosting a family get-together.

by Anonymousreply 21June 23, 2018 7:46 AM

I don't host dinner parties. I'd rather pay for dinner out, then prepare a meal for another.

by Anonymousreply 22June 23, 2018 7:59 AM

I never had the chance to grow up.

by Anonymousreply 23June 23, 2018 8:00 AM

Supply me with a home address or a post office box, OP, and I will be more than happy to mail you a "Baby On Board!" sign.

by Anonymousreply 24June 23, 2018 8:01 AM

I've never owned a car, but have a license.

I don't have stocks either.

by Anonymousreply 25June 23, 2018 8:01 AM

I'm finally able to enjoy the childhood I was denied due to abusive/negligent parents. At 10, I had to be a responsible adult looking after myself. Now at 65, I can be a kid, enjoying the wondrous world and all its possibilities.

by Anonymousreply 26June 23, 2018 8:12 AM

I don't understand the appeal of everlasting childhood. I looked forward to being an adult, & still am glad to be one. I have adult tastes and proclivities.

by Anonymousreply 27June 23, 2018 8:15 AM

OP is 8.

by Anonymousreply 35June 23, 2018 2:25 PM

I did not start to love ice cream until I got sober at 32. AA has this book called "Living Sober" that many refer to affectionately as "Eating Sugar."

by Anonymousreply 36June 23, 2018 2:56 PM

I never knew there were so many Peter Pansies out there.

by Anonymousreply 37June 23, 2018 4:32 PM

I really don't care, do u?

by Anonymousreply 38June 23, 2018 4:47 PM

I'm 65, but don't feel that way emotionally at all.

I've never had a roommate or lived with anyone since I got out of college.

I didn't start drinking coffee until I was 60 (my caffeinated beverage of choice before that was Diet Coke.)

I have a serious sweet tooth, and also am addicted to snack foods.

I love animated movies and theme parks (but hate comic book movies and action movies.)

I used to collect Beanie Babies.

I've never had a relationship.

I've never smoked or taken any kind of illegal drugs or smoked dope.

I rarely drink alcohol -- I hate wine and beer, and can only tolerate sweet cocktails occasionally.

I've never bottomed.

by Anonymousreply 39June 23, 2018 4:55 PM

Thinking that the consumption of coffee and wine makes one an adult is about as childish as it gets...

by Anonymousreply 42June 23, 2018 6:39 PM

OP, you’re cute. *pinches cheeks*

But if you’re being involuntarily unpampered, perhaps you should write and post an essay about it. Maybe it’ll go viral and your aunts will lose their jobs over it.

R26, I know this doesn’t mean much from an anonymous stranger on the internet, but I’m sorry you weren’t able to be a kid. For most of us, it’s remembered fondly as one of the great times in our lives. That’s why all the nostalgia shows (Happy Days, The Wonder Years, That 70s Show, The Goldbergs) are usually successful. I’m sincerely sorry you never got to experience that and I hope your life to date has been much, much better. I am sending you hugs right now. Feel the warmth, friend.

by Anonymousreply 43June 23, 2018 6:44 PM
Thinking that the consumption of coffee and wine makes one an adult is about as childish as it gets...

I don’t think that’s quite what they mean. Most of us grew up around parents who drank coffee. As children, we obviously were not allowed any. As an adult, you don’t drink coffee so you’re child-like [bold]in that regard.[/bold] It’s not the same as saying if you don’t drink coffee or wine you’re childish.

by Anonymousreply 44June 23, 2018 6:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 52June 23, 2018 9:25 PM

I'm like r26. I had a terrible childhood so now, as an adult, I tend to enjoy doing a lot of stuff that keeps me young. Make no mistake though, I can and have survived a lot of shit in my life so I think I'm ok with having some fun as an adult. I enjoy amusement parks, I play video game on the weekends, I take music lessons (guitar) and most of my friends seem to have forgotten how to have fun. I'm almost 50 but you wouldn't know it. I collect some toy stuff like Star Wars and some Harry Potter stuff. I will go see most Pixar movies. Maybe these make me "childlike" but the alternative is boring. I'm well read, college educated, support myself and can cook so I'm a mixture. I know so many "adults" who have forgotten how to have fun. Their lives are work, work, work, and if they have kids it's even worse.

by Anonymousreply 53June 23, 2018 10:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 69June 24, 2018 2:46 AM

Whether or not we ever grew out of being childlike, if we live long enough, many of us revert back to that stage in many ways. Diapers. Can no longer walk unassisted. Taking naps. Eating bland, soft food. Can't leave the house alone.

How very kind of you. Gurl, it's the POSTAGE that costs these days.

Once, years ago, I met when I was about 14 I met an American woman on a plane and told her my love for American bubble gum and she's sent me a whole box to my boarding school in England. All sorts of exotic flavours I remember....including watermelon. Wasn't that sweet?

At one time I persuaded Selfridges dept. store to import DUBBLE BUBBLE (currently the best American Bubble Gum) and they got it in. But that came to an end.

DLers don't seem to like Bubble Gum so I've never been able to enjoy the American connection in that area, which has been very disappointing. They're very sniffy about it. Snobby and snooty, in fact.
