I just threw out Gucci driving moccasins I purchased in the 90s. The subtle fuck you of the horse bit played so well with wider-legged pants.

Gucci is now rapper wear,
They like it because its ostentatious and expensive, so wearing all of it at once like they do can show how much money they have. So Gucci followed suit making the stuff more garish and voila $$$$$
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 21, 2018 1:44 PM |
Gucci has always been a bit tacky, but was much nicer during the middle years Tom Ford was there.
Early and late Ford years were not so great.

Those are awful. Men's feet need to be covered. It's undignified to be showing your bare heels or toes in public. Women can do it, no matter what Dwight Shrute says, if they have cute feet. But ladies please, as an aside, if you don't, then DON'T -- I'm sick to death of seeing horribly deformed bunion feet in sandals or flip flops. Get that shit fixed before you show your feet, or cover those monster feet the fuck up.

Many of the luxury items of the past that once represented status have lost their cache. Its a natural progression when the middle class adopts a trait or habit of a more successful crowd, that crowd moves on lest they begin to feel 'middle class'. Cadillac is a great example of this phenomena.

Gucci is doing spectacularly well.
Their market is China, Russia, the Middle East.
The classic loafer and other classic stuff is still available... but that's not enough to keep the company relevant and growing.
Tom Ford's 1970s-Halston-revival aesthetic was right for the 1990s.... but this is 2018.

Not true.
Gucci shoes and bags are made in Italy if the label says so.
The "Made in Italy " label is regulated by law:
"In 2009, the Italian law (Law 135, September 25th, 2009 - Chamber of Deputies, Parliament of Italy) stated that only products totally made in Italy (planning, manufacturing and packaging) are allowed to use the labels Made in Italy, 100% Made in Italy, 100% Italia, tutto italiano in every language, with or without the flag of Italy. Each abuse is punished by the Italian law."
by Anonymous | reply 77 | June 21, 2018 7:02 PM |
Continued:
"Compared with "Made in Germany" ('all essential manufacturing steps') and "Made in the USA" ('all or virtually all'), Italian regulation is more restrictive ('totally') in determining what qualifies for the use of the "Made in Italy" label."

[QUOTE]Please tell us the name of the shopping mall.
Not that poster, but it'd be Westfield London. Or maybe Heathrow as that now fits the label of tacky shopping mall better than it fits the label of airport.
And of course different stores stock or emphasise different lines. The store in Westfield is likely to focus on the lower priced lines which are more mass-market, whereas Bond Street, being a flagship, will stock all the lines though with an emphasis on the higher end stuff.

Comparatively speaking. What an odd hill you've chosen to die on. Literally the basics of retail are tailoring the stock of a store to match the local market. There simply isn't room in most of their stores to stock everything, so they pick and choose depending on what they think that particular branch will sell.

And you therefore prove that poster's point about it being tacky.

What I said was : Gucci does not make lower priced mass market lines. This is true.
And ALL of the shops sell the same line: Gucci. There is no popular priced line...or top line etc.
......
[quote]so they pick and choose depending on what they think that particular branch will sell.
This is true in Gucci's case only to a certain extent: the company depends less on sales at their shops.... and more on their on-line sales. The shops exist more and more as virtual advertisements. ALL shops must strictly adhere to the brand's look....whether at a mall or on 5th Avenue. The art direction of the shops is the same all over the world. Brand recognition.
.....
[quote]And you therefore prove that poster's point about it being tacky.
Of course it's tacky. That's the whole point.

Anything that ghetto people wear in masses loses its value. I'm from "the hood" I guess but never cared for all the name brand and designer stuff with the names displayed very obviously. But these mofos like to flash the brand (the bigger the letters and "louder" the design) they'll eat that shit up. It looks ridiculous and desperately trying to show they can afford it. also, what pisses me off is when I see fucking babies wearing Jordan sneakers, they don't even walk and will grow out of it in two weeks time.

[quote]Biba in London was never anything like that.
Alessandro Michele has lifted a lot of his aesthetic from Biba.... and from John Derian.

Gucci is MEANT to be ugly. Expensive lines are often designed for that fuckyouicanaffordit look. See item Gucci bags.

When I was in high end fashion before 2009 they would make the stuff in eastern Europe and then finish it in Italy and then put Made in Italy on the product.
The Italians are corrupt as they come so it astounds me that they passed this.

Rappers and rich Chinese assholes think it's cool and avant- garde but everyone else sees it as tacky shit.

Yep, the Asians love that shit. Real or fake.

I’m so beyond wearing obvious labels - I fell victim to owning multiple pairs of the plain classic bit loafer in the early 2000’s when I was trying to impress people but I don’t do that anymore. One thing owning Gucci loafers taught me though was that expensive, well-made quality footwear is well worth it if you can afford it.

menswear these days is so terrible.

R27, make sure OP remembers that he must also form a goddess circle, and scream at the ocean, if he ever decides to burn down his Gucci gang merch.

Oh, it's big in SoCal too. Women seem to find their identity with purses and shoes.

There will always be classic Gucci items. The leather bags and the loafers are still very nice quality. For those complaining about shiny brass obviously they haven't seriously shopped there, because silver bits and hardware have always been available. I think most people who really appreciate the quality and classic design are not selecting items with GG's, or the embroidered shoes. The jackets and shirts with embroidery have there place too, but the new shoes are over the top. My last pair of loafers I purchased are on their third soles; the bullhide leather is still like butter.

I have a pair of classic Gucci loafers that have always been too tight. I left them at a place where they stretch them for a week. I must call to see what's happening to them. They look so nice, but they've been a bastard to wear.

R117, that's odd because I have a wide foot and they are one of the few Italian loafers that are comfortable for me. Most are too narrow.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | July 7, 2018 4:31 AM |
I have a wide penis and my Gucci loafers fit just fine.

Hot Felon...
Some of their OTT loafers remind me of Stubbs and Wootten loafers. They have basic designs in cloth and leather but they also have whimsical designs. They're fun but not too garish like these Gucci designs. The bee Gucci image at R30 is reminiscent of one of Stubbs famous loafer designs.

All these modern ready to wear designer clothes look like the fashion industry is trolling the customer in a "it really costs a lot of money to look this cheap (and tacky)". I mean you can get the same tacky look by ordering from International Male. Hell, gay, athletic marketed Rufskin looks classier than what high end brands offer these days.

The horse bit loafers in either brass or silver are timeless and look great on older or younger guys.

R101. You're an imposter and a bad one at that. All Gucci is made in Italy.

The best thing about Gucci is their muse and brand ambassador, Harry Styles. He has fronted four campaigns for them.

My mom gave me a Gucci wallet for my birthday that I secretly regifted. I did the same thing with a LV travel bag she gave me for Christmas. I’m just turned off by shoes or accessories that have designer emblems on them that everyone can spot from a mile away.
Tacky AF. Sorry, mom!

Gucci, like Versace, is starting to cater towards the idiot hood crowd, who like wearing ugly and expensive clothes to flaunt their gangbanging or rap wealth. That’s why it has gone downhill. Once you start catering towards people who would rather spend their money on big ugly chains instead of child support, you’ve failed as a “luxury” brand.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this fashion forward design that Gucci introduced!
