I don't like THAT particular style (the exposed shirttails ruin it for me), but I think many men can wear a skirt and look good doing so. It's done so in other cultures, and the men look just fine.

I don't really see it as androgynous as a mash up. Androgynous to me would mean not clearly identifiable to either gender.

Androgynous dress is perfectly fine. This ultra fashion forward runway designer stuff you almost never see in public.

r7 Androgynous means "possessing qualities of both sexes." Which is exactly what's happening here and is an established fashion term, even though "gender-bending" is used more widely today, especially when people dressing like that are doing it with the express purpose of addressing gender issues in our society. A mashup is just a subset of style, androgynous or otherwise.

The adjective in the thread title refers to men's [italic]fashion[/italic] (a phrase), not to men.

It's bold fashion for bold people. I mean, it's easy to wear conservative clothes and trust they will save you from ridicule and getting chased and bashed by ignorant assholes. When you wear something like Thommy Dorfan does on the red carpet you put yourself out there to be (very likely) ridiculed and judged (for not wearing conservative clothing) by ignorant assholes.

The outfits at OP's link manage to make the legs of these guys look ugly. The lines are wrong.

I love kilts but this is ugly.

Fashion is actually for people who don't have style, r11. Style is an outward sign of the development of your personality and individuality. James Dean wore white T-shirts and jeans, and he did it with style. People who can't, or don't want to, develop their own style buy it from the runway.

What's with Tom Brown and designing clothes that look ill-fitting.

That jacket looks too small even if the guy is slender.

I remember they tried a few years ago to make suit shorts. This is just reductive crap. He has nice legs but that dress ruins it.

Thanks to the non-gender conforming movement dresses for guys are a viable option. And I bet it gets some attention on social media meaning more followers.

Reminds me of a kilt.

"Deconstruction" in the most banal, literal sense of the word. Aside from looking stupid, the design theory behind it seems lazy and contrived. As in "oh hey, what if we cut the component parts in half? Oh and add a skirt". Just lazy and trite.

I kilt would be longer and made of heavier fabric that would not be pleated and would not blow up in a breeze revealing your tackle

I applaud men who take risks with their fashion. Menswear can be so damn dry and boring. We need guys who are willing to spice it up.

The problem is not androgyny in the outfits.

The problem is that the majority of the stuff pictured in this thread have crossed the line from fashion to costume.

Anyone who doesn't think they look either ridiculous or challenged is trying way too hard to appear hip. Absolutely none of those outfits look good.
