Jealous, bitches?
No, I saw the original about 1978 and it was too scary.

These “jealous” threads don’t get it. The Friday thread did and was fun. You can’t ask if we’re jealous and then disappear. I mean, hello!

Always loved this movie. I remember renting it from Blockbuster back in the day, not knowing anything about it except that it was one of those classic horror movies you just had to see and it really creeped me out. Something about the lo-fi vibe of the movie makes it scarier. Everyone in the film looks like someone you'd live next door to or go to school with. I love 70's and 80's horror because of this. It makes it so much more real. Everyone in horror films these days looks like a model. Even the jock and cheerleader characters has a down-home look to them back then.
I don't remember being a huge fan of the last two entires in the franchise, but the first 3 are really great and fun.

The handsome classical house used in this movie was also used in that Bond move "A View to a Kill
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 8, 2018 12:11 AM |
It was also used in the super creepy Burnt Offerings.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 8, 2018 12:20 AM |
Wasn't that the house the girl blows up in "Firestarter"?

Perhaps you do not understand what the word "jealous" means. If English is your first language, you should know that the word "envious" is fitting here, "jealous" makes no sense whatsoever in this context.

excellent! horror is the best genre.
more lovely films: Halloween (the original only) Carnival of Souls Lemora-a child's tale of the supernatural Dario Argento (take your pick) Jeepers Creepers (the first. too bad about the director's predilections) Jean Rollin euroschlock films (warholesque, but french) The Masters of Horror series
more as i remember them.

It scared the shit out of me as a kid. I should re-watch it and see if it holds up.

I saw this in the urinal theater when it first came out where I grew up. I remember it being the last show of the night so it was creepy walking out of the theater. Fun times.

Phantasm, Halloween and The Fog were my holy trinity as a kid in the 80s. Mythical films that my older siblings talked about but I didn't get to see. When I finally did I never enjoyed being scared so much in my life. Still favorites to this day.

The graveyard scene (where you see the boyfriend's ass) turned me gay. Thanks, Phantasm!

It's too bad director Don Coscarelli had only one decent film to his credit.
I remember it when it came out. Phantasm was a weird, nutty movie, but boy was it compelling. It stayed with me for days, sort of like a freakish nightmare.
Here's a bit of wiki trivia I came across:
"The name of [italic]Star Wars: The Force Awakens[/italic] villain Captain Phasma was chosen as a reference to [italic]Phantasm[/italic]. Director Abrams said, "Phasma I named because of the amazing chrome design that came from Michael Kaplan's wardrobe team. It reminded me of the ball in Phantasm, and I just thought, Phasma sounds really cool."

Funny you mention that R24 as Coscarelli said much of the film came from a nightmare he had. He really did capture a feeling of being in a dream very well.

I'm almost afraid to ask but what's the urinal theater R20?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 8, 2018 6:33 PM |
only one decent film for Coscarelli?
what about Bubba Ho-tep?

I thought 'Phantasm' was a Brazilian film with a sexy young man who often went nude.
