Why do you need to buy tickets for Pride? It's always free in SF and NYC.

LA charge's about $20 for entry into a gated "festival."

Pride Island, the replacement for the Pier Dance, isn't free. In fact, the second day, with Kylie as the headliner, is sold out.

What does this $20 ticket buy you? Just access to a bunch of booths from businesses advertising Out, Steamworks, Boy Butter, and Red Bull? Why pay $20 to be advertised to?
