Even when I was a small kid I made my entire family eat cucumber dishes out on the terrace because I couldn't stand that horrible stench in the house. I don't have a very sensitive nose but that's one of the few smells that literally makes me sick.
Does anyone else find the smell of cucumbers revolting?

I think the vegetable is pleasant smelling and there was even a Caswell Massey cucumber line for years. I loved the smell and still have one bottle left.

Heavy Dairy dishes like “alfredo,” real butter or Seafood do that to me. My stomach actually heaves. My sister is like that about green or red peppers.

Can't handle the stench of cooking broccoli.

I LOATHE the smell of cucumbers. It is an overwhelming dank smell. I know people think they smell fresh and clean, but I can smell them from across the room, and it's just overpowering. I was at a Mexican fusion restaurant once, and I just could not get over the stink. I finally figured out that it was in the pico de gallo that was brought out with the chips. Everyone at the table was like, you're crazy, they wouldn't put cucumber in the pico. I asked the waiter, and he said it was their secret ingredient. He was surprised I could tell, but the stench overwhelmed even the scent of the onions and cilantro.
My understanding is that some people are genetically sensitive to the smell of cucumber, just as some people are genetically pre-disposed to hate cilantro. No one in my family has my issue with cucumbers though, so that may be bullshit.
Once they are pickled I have no problem with the smell. Unless they are sweet pickles, but that is a whole other issue.

OP, you were a little prisspot! Why did they let you order them to eat cucumbers out on the terrace? In my family, you would have been spanked soundly and sent to bed with no dinner!

When I was a kid my mom would sometimes broil stuffed mushroom caps for my dad. The smell was so horrendous I couldn’t even stay downstairs while they cooked and the smell would linger forever. My brother, sister and I complained so much about the stink she eventually stopped making them. She claims it was the Parmesan cheese that was so smelly but for me it was definitely the earthy stink of the mushrooms cooking. I still won’t eat mushrooms if I can avoid it.

I hate cukes too, OP... I find the smell and the flavour overpowering.
But I love dill pickles.

I'm not aware of cucumbers having a bad smell. I love eating them and had some at our hospitality hour at church on Sunday. Could eat them every day.

Cucumbers are one of the healthiest foods you can eat. They are a great source of B vitamins - a quick pick-me-up.

OP, I am the same way. To me, cucumbers have an extreme unpleasant taste. Some people I know feel cucumbers are mild tasting in the way that celery is. Cucumbers ruin whatever they are in to me.

I love cruciferous vegetables - broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower - but Brussels sprouts disgust me.
I love hot peppers, but bell peppers disgust me.
There is no accounting for taste.

I hate both cucumbers and celery. They are both incredibly bitter to me.
I like Brussel sprouts, but not cauliflower nor broccoli.

I like blueberries and green peas, but have noticed that they have a funky underlying smell, like a rotting/stagnant water smell. No, they’re not old, I’ve smelled it through the years many places, many batches. I think people all have certain chemicals they are sensitive to and you pick up on them. Like how a dog can smell things we can’t.

Sometimes eggs and milk will smell like a wet dog to me, but maybe that’s from the animal’s diet? Parmesan can be yucky. I love cucumbers, though. Except when you get a bitter one/part.

Love cukes.
One smell that always gagged me as a child was when my grandma made saur kraut.
I want to heave just thinking about that odor.

I find unbearable the smells of cooked cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts; hard-boiled eggs; and raw onion. It's the sulfur.

It sounds like you have cucumber trauma. Where have you been hiding the cucumbers?
