Who will go home next? Who will break a heel as they try to deliver their signoff line, and fall off the runway? Who will break three keyboards angrily penning ranting screeds after they leave the show? Who will require optical surgery due to constant eye-rolling? Who will forget the words? Who who who?
If that thread photo doesn't intrigue the newbies enough to tune in for the first time, I don't know what will.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 7, 2018 12:36 PM |
I can see why the poster near the end of the previous thread was so angry about The Vixen and accusing everyone of racism. If this is the sort of thing that's being written and that poster is consuming, with phrases like this:
"Due mostly to racism, The Vixen will probably never have the reputation of being an intellectual queen like Sasha Velour."
Of course there's no actual proof to back it up, just "racism". And Aquaria's bad attempt to slam The Vixen is, of course, racist, merely because Aquaria is white.
I mean, wtf?? The Vixen seems smart and is well-spoken, I'll grant her that. Did she graduate from Vassar? She's certainly thought a lot about race, though, but I haven't really heard her speak on anything else other than to excuse herself for any issues because she's "being real". I don't know if everyone thought Sasha was a brain, but her looks and lipsync were PLANNED. She wouldn't have settled for that weird lopsided cupholder mess The Vixen was wearing in episode 7. I'd give Miz Cracker the intellectual award over The Vixen though, based on her humor and what she's actually said.
I've been impressed with a lot of the writing on INTO, but this sort of piece is the kind of thing I'd expect to find on "them" magazine.

by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 7, 2018 12:44 PM |
And, here's the matching piece from "them" magazine (although this is limited to Aquaria and The Vixen's fight, with which Aquaria pretty much started it and made herself look bad, but the article is talking about how no one at home will think that because of their races, which isn't the case from what I've seen):
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 7, 2018 12:45 PM |
r3 I wonder why people don't find it odd that Bob (the best drag queen ever in my eyes) never had to resort to that? Using all sorts of excuses to hide one's lack of talent and/or rotten personality has a long history but playing the race card just might be the nastiest of them all. Co-opting the historic and ongoing struggle of your community to stay one more week in a silly drag competition headed by a black man with two black winners seems just so incredibly gross to me.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 7, 2018 12:55 PM |
r6 agreed. Bob the Drag Queen was HILARIOUS and he sailed through those challenges, and I didn't see him blaming everyone when he didn't do as well as he thought he should. Humor and wit, is a sign of intelligence, and I think Bob was pretty damn intelligent. The Vixen might be, but she uses it to lash out at people and even when she has good points, they're tinged with such fury they're hard to listen to. It's like that other thread where the old person keeps repeating the "No, we didn't have the green movement back then" - it sets such a bitter tone that it's hard to pay attention to the real meaning. (And yes I'm sure I'll get accused of "tone policing", but if you're arguing, don't you want people to hear what you are saying? Bitter sarcasm and rage, regardless of who it comes from, is a turnoff).
Asia to a lesser degree and The Vixen in particular seem to reach for the race card first, before anything else. Hell, The Vixen's drag show is centered on race, and sounds more like full on performance art than night club drag. Who wants to go to a drag show just to feel uncomfortable?

I'm so sad Monique is gone. She was effortlessly funny—often unintentionally, a la Alyssa. But if she had to go out, then of course she went out with a monumental clusterfuck of a lipsync. In hindsight, the whole thing was quintessentially Monique.
Gonna miss her, but I can't wait to see where she goes from here. I'm really glad the producers kept in the stuff about finances, as sometimes they like to pretend those sorts of advantages don't exist.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 7, 2018 4:27 PM |
I've seen the Vixen's show, and she's obviously stunting for attention,a nd, yes, race baiting is part of her schtick.
I think she's at least a week past her sell by date.

I liked Monique too. And yeah it was illuminating to hear how much people spent on their garb. I hadn't thought about it that much. In the earlier seasons I thought they had all the wardrobe and fabric provided by the show and they had to work with it.

Although I totally disagree with the review above's taken on the Vixen / Eureka runway encounter. The reviewer blames Eureka for interrupting her when she went into her monologue about how much Eureka sucks, and then applauds The Vixen for not interrupting the others when they said she should go, but ignores the fact that The Vixen didn't just name Eureka to be eliminated, she stood there and trashed her professionally and personally in front of the judges. None of the other queens did that when naming The Vixen, and if they had, you can bet she would have interrupted and said something, too.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 8, 2018 1:34 PM |
Good comment from the above article (most disagree with the author, who seems to have an anti-Eureka bias):
3 days ago (Edited) I appreciate the idea of The Vixen and support what she stands for, but she is a terrible symbol for what she wants to represent. She's an incredibly weak drag queen, with an arts and crafts aesthetic that always looks fresh off a losing look from a project runway "unconventional materials" challenge. She has zero ability to self-reflect, chastising Eureka for refusing to change without acknowledging her own schtick is based on a refusal to compromise. I find that I often don't share Bowen and Matt's opinions on Drag Race and I certainly disagree that it's difficult to not take Vixen's side in her pettiness directed at Eureka.
I keep finding Vixen being defended and given passes by blogs and podcasts that cover RPDR, and I get it. However, at a certain point you have to look at Vixen in the context of the show- and in that specific context, she's an insufferable brat. She wants to be about a (very important) message, but she can't stop just making about herself.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 8, 2018 1:39 PM |
She is still very bitter and unprofessional on twitter. She keeps ranting about how it is unfair for people to call her out for being a hypocrite, using the race card again and adding #whitetears to her tweets. I don't follow her but it keeps popping up on my feed because the official DR account likes the tweets.
And she is one of the queens asking people to buy a fast pass to meet her at Dragcon! Other queens thinking they are as popular as space mountain: Charlie Hides and Kalorie Karbdashian!
Hilarious

Money absolutely matters. The standards for Drag Race runways are high now, and it takes coin to match it.
I hated when Michelle tried to pretend like money wasn't an excuse to Chi Chi, that is just bull, and they both know it.

Thanks R18. "SLap Out of IT!"
Asia is quick with the comebacks for the win, but the whole thing is funny. I really thought Eureka's taunt of "HD" was the most slap worthy, but she can't win every damn challenge. It's going to be a fun episode, live singing terrible unauthorized songs as Cher through the ages.

I've always found RuPaul obnoxious and she looks fat in every runway outfit (I don't think she cinches much anymore). Her shitty pop songs and other branding attempts are the worst though. The show's usually better when they bring in others for the challenges. Loved seeing Bianca in the workroom (although oddly remember she didn't win that Snatch Game).

I just watched the show from last week and I honestly didnt realize Monique Heart was a seperate contestant from some of the other similar looking queens, she seemed swewt enough but made no impact at all in either looks or personality.
Im just a casual watcher, so Im not sure how it works, but when they were talking about the money for clothes on Untucked, it sounded like they come with their outfits prepared in advance, ie they are informed of the challenge themes before they arrive, as Cracker was talking about how much she spent on her mermaid tail. But then other times you see them sewing in the room. How exactly does it work?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 9, 2018 3:37 PM |
About two weeks before they go film they are given a list of themed outfits they should be ready for r27, not all of which actually end up getting used on the show.
So then the queens and whatever connections they have are frantically trying to assemble looks for all of these themes. Most outfits are not made on set, only when it is a specific "design an outfit" challenge are they making it from scratch there.
However often outfits aren't finished and require additional work before they are runway ready so you see them working on it. And occasionally queens like Monique this season showed up with practically no outfits made, and had the make them all while she was filming. Chi Chi was in a similar situation, she had to make most of the her runway outfits while she was filming.
I remember Violet had no idea what people would do for the ugly runway, so she waited and made the outfit on set. Just depends.
I just watched the show from last week and I honestly didnt realize Monique Heart was a seperate contestant from some of the other similar looking queens, she seemed swewt enough but made no impact at all in either looks or personality.
1) Monique had the best confessionals all season. To say she had no personality is beyond absurd, as she is one of the most singular personalities the show has ever had. Facts are facts, America.
2) You can just say, "All black people look the same to me." It gets the point across quicker without any obfuscation.

Many of these queens have been trying for years to get on the show r30. This was Mayhem's like 8th time putting together an audition, it's a lot of work to audition for this show too.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 9, 2018 4:03 PM |
I have a feeling Miz Cracker was making a joke, R30, but it does take money and resources to have top-notch looks on the runway. It's an uncomfortable truth. And yes, R19 is correct in that Michelle was full of shit telling Chi Chi in S8 "you don't need money girl". Yes you do. A cheap, shitty costume can easily put you in the bottom 2.
How expensive do you think this costume was, for instance?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 9, 2018 4:16 PM |
R29 to be fair she and the Bob soundalike do look a lot alike, physically. Asia is distinctive, as is The Vixen.

A brief history of wig reveals on RPDR. I personally find them overdone now. It's not exactly a reveal but I especially hate it when a queen rips off their wig or a major part of their dress while they're lip syncing for their life - bitch, design your shit with the idea you may have to move around in it! The only thing I will accept is a massive headdress like the kind Eureka wears, or that dandelion lampshade that Asia was wearing - it's ok if those come off. But keep the wigs on!

Having extensive choreography in a Cher challenge was completely wrongheaded, especially quoting Beyonce and Destiny's Child. I guess they knew the vocal performances would be mostly poor so they hoped to make up for it with choreography. It just took the contestants further away from Cher.
That Aquaria sure is bendy, though.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 11, 2018 5:37 AM |
Is Cher too "white gay"? Were the black contestants at a disadvantage? Much as I liked Monet's attitude as Cher, the vocal quality of Cher was not there. As noted, Cracker got tied up in her Cher sounds (gurgles?) on the other extreme, but Asia and the Vixen really gave no Cher.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 11, 2018 5:41 AM |
I knew the Vixen had lost the lipsync when she was delivering lyrics with her eyes down. Actually, no, I knew she was for the sashay when she started doing air instruments ( guitar, then drums, I think).

Vixen's third time in the bottom basically means you go home regardless. Only Coco Montrese made it to a fourth lip sync. We all knew The Vixen was going this week and it's about time. I don't hate her the way others do. But she acted the fuck crazy paranoid and full of projection and defensiveness. There's a sweet guy in there somewhere. She's from Chicago bitch and all those bitches are tough. Some are more self aware.
Of course no one can sing like Cher!?! That's not really the point. Diana Ross has the edge over Cher as Ru's favorite all time diva, but Ross must threaten to sue if they even unauthorized try to emulate her? I used to hate spoilers but I find it helps with this damn show. All along we knew that Kameron won the Cher challenge and that Asia sent The Vixen home. But we didn't know the context of how unexpected both of those things would seem by this point in the season. Kameron is very meh to me, he barely deserved the win. Monet and Miz Cracker have yet to win a challenge and one of them never will...
I loved this week's episode, the mini challenge was just too much silly fun. That's what RuPaul is good at. He looked a bit better on the runway too. The queen's have mostly great looks and that keeps it interesting as some of the disappointing personalities continue on. I still love Monet, give props to Aquaria and Eureka. Kameron is very much like a low rent Chad Michaels, but he's works. He features prominently in the next few episodes...
If Violet could win, maybe Aquaria can too.

by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 11, 2018 8:36 AM |
R52 I think the “too white gay” thing is a stretch, bigtime. RPDR has made its contestants do rap and hiphop and black divas a lot—remember “Melk” looking like a rubberband Pinnochio during his rap performance? The ethnicity isn’t a fair criticism here IMO; however, I do think some of them were at a disadvantage or had greater challenges than others. One of the queens wore a curly wig that was just barely longer than a bob, which doesn’t recall Cher; meanwhile, other outfits are so iconic that they conjure Cher without any mannerisms or vocal effects at all. Still, a few of the queens stood out for embodying Cher and it really was the performance and not the clothing that did it, and not all of the good ones were white, and not all of the white ones were good.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 11, 2018 11:27 AM |
R58 Maybe it’s because I am too young to really know her persona, but it seems to me that Diana Ross is pretty one-note stylewise and personalitywise, especially compared with someone as idiosyncratic as Cher. I can’t imagine assigning different Diana Ross looks to eight people and having one look any different than the other. Cher was probably necessary because her career has been costume heavy and she also is made for drag parody with all her physical quirks and her odd manner of speech.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 11, 2018 11:31 AM |
I'm no fan of The Vixen and I'm glad she's gone but how was incorporating Beyonce's choreography ever going to help her embody Cher?
Alyssa was a much better choreographer than Todrick.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 11, 2018 11:58 AM |
The Cher musical choreography and much of the music itself was too unlike Cher’s style. It was as much of a mismatch as if they’d have had everyone impersonate Britney Spears singing Sarah McLachlan music while line dancing.

This show is getting deep on race/class/privilege. I liked what Asia said to Vixen about how she could consider separating her general chip on her shoulder from her specific thing with Eureka. That was a good talk. Cracker told us about growing up poor while cold Aquaria moves onward. Someone should look at Aquaria's budget.
I can't help it, I like Eureka. She could shut up once in a while but she's really good at this. She makes a good drag queen: she's fun and silly and huge and generous with herself. Welcoming in a good quality in a performer of this kind. IMHO.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 11, 2018 12:52 PM |
Maybe the show needs more equalizing so the broke queens don't get a disadvantage. Is it fair? Anything's possible with craftiness I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 11, 2018 12:58 PM |
The conversation with the Vix was good and I’d even go as far as to say “important” TV, as was her extended parting monologue. That she regrets having shown herself only as angry makes me sad, and showing this makes me appreciate tagging Untucked onto the overall RPDR episodes. I don’t like the squabbling and name calling aspect of the show, but this sort of revelation and self-revelation make it worthwhile.
She deserved to go home based on her performance, though. I liked Asia’s clown a lot and I’m annoyed with her for bitching so much about having to have had to resort to that outfit...I think it was an awesome outfit.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 11, 2018 1:00 PM |
R65 Yeah, I was honestly a little disturbed last week when the guys revealed how much money they invest in their wardrobes prior to coming on the show. Loans more than college tuition? That’s realy bullshit—sure, the show makes a name for them nationally and so it’s an investment, but the queens also make Drag Race Drag Race, and so why can’t the production at least subsidize expenses and maybe set a cap on costume and makeup expenditures so that contestants are on a level playing field? Universities offer needs-based scholarships. Surely some sponsor woukd step in and help people like Cracker and Chi Chi so that they wouldn’t be penalized for a lack of personal financial resources.

Okay, I actually really liked this episode. The Cher Musical was pretty fun, the dancers were hot, and the judges were actually witty. Loved seeing Chad Michaels too.
I couldn't stop looking at the dancers. The blond one in particular. Even when he was leaving the stage he was moving like a dancer.
Eureka's story about the "physical altercation" seemed a LITTLE bullshitty - I think if she'd said her dad hit her that would be one thing, but couching it in that weird language makes it sound like she was trying to make it seem worse than it was. Although, it could just be her way of dealing with it. And I liked her Cher, although the judges were right, she was a little hesitant at the beginning, but once she got into it, she was great. I felt like whoever assigned the roles/wrote the words (it wasn't them, was it?) may have been shady at her because it was about how she "lost weight and got in shape" or something like that. And her runway outfit was STUNNING. I don't know what Visage's deal was with the makeup, I think it all looked fantastic. Like, "oh that dress with 10000 parts and the hair is a lot, but having 8 lines on your face, JUST TOO MUCH DEAR LORD". Like she was trying to find something to criticize about it.
I kind of knew Cameron was going to win when they actually started giving him confessionals. It was a shock to see him talking and I think if they hadn't cut off his confessionals in the other episodes he may not have seemed so "quiet" to the audience.
Andrew Rannells is cute! (Here he is in a tight shirt, because). And Billy Eichner looked cute too. I can see Andrew playing a moon-eyed Mormon quite easily (as I know he did, I hadn't really paid attention to him before).
I didn't like Miz Cracker's outfit at the end - it was okay, a little ??? but I thought her Cher was okay.
Asia was pretty bad during her Cher but her outfit at the end was cute. The Vixen's construction paper outfit was cute but you could tell it was made in craft class. I knew she'd end up ripping off at some point, and it was sort of sad to see it sitting there in the middle of the stage (and kind of rude to Asia for her to leave it there). Her lip sync wasn't bad but Asia was slightly better and definitely more confident. I liked the "Oh, her!" look and move she did at the end. After hugging The Vixen at the end you know she needed a shower though, to get the stank of LOSER off her!
After The Vixen got eliminated, her signoff line SUCKED HAHAHAHA. She didn't break a heel and fall off the stage while delivering her terrible line, which would have been my preferred exit for her, but seeing her disappointed and unhappy and crying fake tears at the end was pretty entertaining nonetheless. I haven't watched Untucked yet to see what they say, but I'm sure the sad "loser goes home" montage that is like 40% of Untucked now, will be fun to watch. #thevixentears
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 11, 2018 6:21 PM |
r68 yes, this one episode Ru was actually pretty good and entertaining - which is good because the rest of the season, he's been either barely there, blurred beyond recognition, or covered up so you're not even sure he was there (I mean, how do we know that was really Ru under that mask? Bob had a point). However, one episode where Ru earns his residuals does not a season make. I think you're right though, he hasn't been putting in an effort in the rest of the episodes, and it definitely shows. He seemed really entertained by the Cher concept so maybe the secret is for him to do more challenges that he enjoys doing.
r66 I'd have liked to see The Vixen have more moments of self-awareness, because all we saw was her angry the entire season, or doing childish shit like she was whenever Eureka was talking to Ru in the workroom. Yeah it's good TV, but with her hypocrisy and other "I'm just being me, I can't let things sit" as a virtue instead of the vice it is the majority of the time, was too toxic. I also loved how she was mad about the other girls wanting her to go because it was "her dream!" and Asia (?) said "It's all of our dreams" or something. I honestly don't think that had occurred to the Vixen. I'm glad she got some moments once she realized HER DREAM was lost, that she stopped being such a walking cuntsore, but too little too late.

The mini challenge was hilarious. I always love the fake slap thing. I KNEW they'd give the win to whoever made the biggest fool of themselves after getting slapped, but I also think Asia got it because Ru actually hit her (Sign here if you won't sue). And their insult lines were pretty good! Especially Aquarias, hahaha. That would make me want to slap a millennial, too.
r64 I like Eureka too.
r62 And I agree, Todrick Hall is bad, he's mean to the girls when he's "helping teach" them, which doesn't seem like it would be very motivating, and he's not as cute as he seems to think he is. I think part of it is motivation. Alyssa was direct, but she didn't seem to be going out of the way to be a dick, and the other girls respected her. I think Todrick likes to make little catty comments which is completely counterproductive for getting people to do what you want them to do.
r66 I thought it was interesting that Asia told her that - I cannot imagine the "Angry black woman syndrome" coming out of the mouth of anyone else without the person getting DESTROYED on Twitter. I don't think Asia's very well rounded as a queen but her mothering moment was something different on the show. She seems like she'd be a good drag mother.

And here's the New York Times review of the episode!
Some highlights:
"Ru then introduced the maxi-challenge — a performance of “Cher: The Unauthorized (trigger warning: another Rusical) Rusical,” in which the queens would portray Cher across her six decades of work, while singing live. (Cut to: Blair St. Clair, in front of her Indianapolis flat-screen, cry-eating powdered mini-donuts over missing the singing challenge.)"
"When asked what shape her “comeback Cher” would take, Miz Cracker told Ru that she planned to do “as many gags about age as possible … have someone throw me a cane!” Ru went as frozen-faced as a post-root-canal Marcia Cross, and choked out, “Cher is not old. She is ageless.” Cracker wisely genuflected and went back to the vision board."
"Showing-not-telling just how important acting skills are to the art of drag, Ru faux-innocently asked The Vixen about her “history of conflicts here,” as if he had not spent the previous seven weeks violently crunching Tic-Tacs over the shoulders of the story-editing team and shaping her “villain” narrative. The Vixen theorized, “I think they know that I keep it real and they can’t play phony around me,” at which even the Miss Congeniality front-runner Monét rolled her eyes."
"When Asia hugged Monét, saying “Come on, my little Dark Lady!”, The Vixen spat, “That got racial,” exposing the sad fact that she is a drag queen that does not know the title of a Cher song when she hears one. Somewhere, The Lady Chablis shattered a shot glass and ate the shards."
"The Rusical should have been unauthorized by the producers of this program. The off-Cher (Sherm?) songs, the fact that none of the terrified, dead-eyed queens had ever done a Cher impression before, and the insane final number in which they attempted the Watusi in front of a bunch of glittery foamcore cockroaches added up to the kind of triple threat that warrants a restraining order. "
"The Vixen served the same lip-sync we’ve seen from her three times now: a shapeless, perspective-less burst of chin-thrusting, stage-sweeping energy that prompted me to do an impression of Cher’s famous chronic fatigue. The Vixen was, finally, too much and not enough for the judges, and she was sent off to lip sync on that great battleship in the sky. Her farewell line was, “Well, I guess I’ll go run for president!” Oh, Vixen, don’t you see? You’ve been the president all along."

Haven't posted in ages ..............on the Drag Race threads or DL, really.
Anywhoo ...... I thought The Vixen was cute as a boy, but had a horrible personality and truthfully wasn't as high quality a drag queen as some of the others.
Kameron really came out of nowhere this week. Talk about being a stealth queen.
Eureka sending home The Vixen would've been more satisfying, but I'm glad The Vixen is gone
I did NOT like the last season finale at all. I'm hoping they change it back to a final three.
I am surprised how much I like Eureka. Could be a fat girl season win (finally) ..... I'd like to see Miss Cracker and Monet Exchange in the final three. I don't hat Aquaria, so if she's in F3, I'm good with that too.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 11, 2018 6:47 PM |
I like Miz Cracker personally but she hasn't been that much of a standout in the challenges. As a commentator I think she'd be great!
Monet Exchange is hilarious. But that TAPE on her runway outfit! Good lord! She should be glad that The Vixen and Asia were worse this episode!
I think Kameron would have seemed better rounded if they had given him commentaries during this season, aside from this single episode. He's been okay in the challenges but he definitely needed a win to stick around.
Eureka just seems like she'd be a lot of fun. And I love all of her runway outfits - they're so amazing looking.
I'm really surprised The Vixen hasn't been using "I'm poor" as an excuse for her outfits, too. Her looks are all crafty so either she thinks she's better than she is at putting together an outfit, or she's poor. I would be surprised if she could use a legitimate excuse and didn't - unless maybe she doesn't like excuses that make her look weak. All her other excuses have been from a point of strength "I'm strong, I tell it like it is, I'm from Chicago!" etc.

I know why people keep confusing Monét with Monique, and no, it’s not the similar names and, no, it’s not “they all look alike” racism.
It’s because they both sport a “Tootie-The Early Years” grill.

Still not as bad as Monique Heart not knowing who Bette Middler is at last week's Roscoe's viewing party. What happened to the one this week, does anyone know? I'm trained like a dog to check it out after every episode now.

At around 48:00 in this clip from Roscoe's, Monique recounts a club event in NYC following the S10 queens' Facebook Live debut. Some asshole threw several drinks on The Vixen and a fight ensued; Monique vaguebooks about a supposedly "ride or die" queen who stood by and did nothing instead of getting involved.

TEE HEE. In the Untucked The Vixen thinks Asia and Aquaria are the ones that will be in the bottom two. She's even being kind of magnanimous to Aquaria, likely because she thinks she's going home.
The scene where Miz Cracker is trying to tell Aquaria she's a stuck up ho is pretty funny. Cracker's like, "how do I say this delicately?" and she does, but Aquaria doesn't either get it or pretends not to get it and then talks about people who aren't on her level.
Asia's bitching because people (Kameron) were wearing rhinestones/sequins instead of glitter fabric, which is apparently a thing. "Glitter always reads cheap to me!"
And finally they get to the ten minute "Sad The Vixen Leaving" montage. HEE HEE HEE!!! I'm glad she realizes how many "angry moments" she gave the show. Also she still has glitter on her neck! Eureka is right about her kitchen. I can see The Vixen's mind working and trying to find a way to make it into a "not about her" moment - it's not about THE VIXEN, NO, it's about all the younger queens who might look up to her as a drag queen and think she failed! Fake tears, fake tears - she's trying to make herself cry. I think she rubbed glitter into her eyes. Now she's trying to say her anger comes from just LOVING OTHERS TOO MUCH.
PLEASE, bitch, you're on season ten of Drag Race, any archetype has been done already. No one's looking up to you as their only model and is going to feel like they can't do it because you couldn't do it, because you're the only one who can be that for them. She really thinks highly of herself, or wants everyone to think she does.
"I MAY HAVE FAILED.. AND I'M SAD BECAUSE OF ALL THE PEOPLE THAT WILL NEVER SUCCEED BECAUSE I DIDN'T MAKE IT, THE ONLY PERSON WHO COULD POSSIBLY PAVE THE WAY FOR THEM, EVER!" - THE VIXEN

RuPaul has been given a Netflix series!
"RuPaul is sashaying into that Netflix money! The streaming site has ordered ten episodes of a one-hour comedy starring RuPaul as Ruby Red, a “bigger-than-life but down-on-her-luck drag queen who travels across America from club to club in a rundown 1990’s R/V.” Executive-produced by RuPaul and Sex and the City alum Michael Patrick King, AJ and the Queen will follow Ruby Red and her 11-year-old sidekick, AJ, as they travel around the country. Per Netflix’s release: “Oh, and RuPaul performs a killer musical number in every drag club.”"

I think the whole Asia and VIxen moment was created to make her more likable (if that was even possible). She failed to even realize that Eureka was the one person who did not say her name and continued to dismiss her. You see Eureka trying the whole season with her and eventually just giving up. I dont buy the whole angry black woman excuse and Eureka representing everything that wronged the Vixen. I think she saw someone fat and loud and could not understand how Eureka was light years better than her so she blamed all her problems on her. I mean come on BIC as a snatch game character? The kid is a meme. That is it. How do you make that funny? One a side note- does anyone know if Asia does a Janet Impersonation? That last lipsynch she looked strikingly like Janet.

Oh, snap! That's [italic]exactly[/italic] what it was! How could I not have seen that when it was as clear as day when I look back at it now? Maybe because Vixen was throwing racial excuses around and we all got collectively blinded by that and duped into believing someone else must have been at fault.

r92 well I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not but honestly, the Vixen was doing well at the beginning. She was winning mini challenges doing well in the main stage looks and challenges. Her Mayhem and Eureka shared a station and kiki'ed all the time. Asia was probably more vocal about not liking Eureka. I think Asia, Monique and Vixen talked about how loud and annoying Eureka was, Asia being upset Eureka was on her team in one of the earlier challenges, and rightly so because Eureka under performed. I think they counted her out until Eureka got out of her head and started stepping to the plate. Starting with Tap that App, Eurkea was doing better and Vixen was doing worse. Rather than figure out what was wrong, Vixen concentrated her anger on Eureka. "I can't shine because she is so loud." She went as far as to call Eureka unprofessional, which unless there were huge sections of show they edited out, I missed. All I saw was Eureka giving her space when she was attacked, not antagonizing her, and being supportive when she was down. I think the Vixen felt she was better than Eureka and when Eureka kept getting praise and winning challenges, that hate sort of consumed her. That was why I think she was so angry when everyone said her name. She all but said "wait when did we stop hating Eureka??"

No, Diana Ross has lots of looks that could have been utilised. From early Supremes with knee length dresses and bouffant, to mod Diana with asymmetric bob, to On Broadway TV special Diana with the massive HAIR tribute wig, to sparkly nude illusion bodysuit Vegas Diana with the mid short bubbly afro, to flower in her hair Lady Sings the Blues, to Kimono Mahogany fashion manque, to sleek Disco Diana with hair tightly pulled back, to wet hair n jeans Chic album cover Diana, to Chain Reaction with the Cleopatra "punk" wig Diana. The massive hair she's best known for is largely an 80s thing.
Diana was greater than Cher in serving looks and she didn't tend to look as costumey. The kimono look in Mahogany is a rarity among her looks.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | May 11, 2018 11:39 PM |
The Vixen was stank to Eureka because the latter was fat and loud next to Vixen's skinny and loud? I don't buy it.
It's possible The Vixen saw Eureka being set up to win and resented that. Willam revealed how Sharon Needles was the only S4 contestant allowed to retake her entrance. When Willam requested a retake, he was denied.

R93 lol at that article:
"I'd be remiss not to mention the awkward headdress moment during Monet’s part, which had her singing about cultural appropriation. So meta! Still uncomfortable!"
Was anyone else who isn't a precocious millennial writing for "them" magazine who needs to virtue signal at every opportunity uncomfortable with that? I thought it was pretty funny.
Also:
"But during her time on the show, The Vixen initiated a necessary and moving dialogue among the cast, and I hope fans of the show continue to wrestle with the points she made."
What dialogue did The Vixen initiate? Something about race and being a black queen? I'm still not sure what her point was, other than as an excuse for her own behavior. Does show need to be serious and "Woke"? I mean, it's a clown show with people being clowns. And I don't mean that in a bad way.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | May 11, 2018 11:56 PM |
To be fair, Eureka said herself that she dropped that little "you're a crafty queen" comment to goad the Vixen into a fight. Eureka has a good reputation on tour, but she's playing the TV game. She's not all that different ti Shangela, in that she's hyper aware and invested in making "good TV". None of us should be getting carried away with how she appears on TV.

People can say pay attention to the message and not the messenger until they're blue in the face, their words won't be heeded. The Vixen portrayed herself terribly. That undermines a valid discussion about racism, people being quick to stereotype. Maybe The Vixen thought she'd play a cute game of essentially harmless shit stirring (e.g. the Cracker/Aquaria thing), acting as an antidote to Best Friend Racers of recent times, but she lost all sense of fun and became a buzzkill so quickly.

r98 I find indigenous headdress on someone who isn't of indigenous heritage offensive, even if they do it ironically and in a meta way, and I don't intend to apologize for having common decency either. "Virtue-signalling" (an entirely emetic alt-right term, by the way, so you might want to consider cutting down on its usage) has nothing to do with it.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | May 12, 2018 12:27 AM |
R99 in context it seemed more like Eureka said that after the fact to try to control the situation because she was surprised by Vixen's over the top reaction. I didn't sense that she intentionally thought about it beforehand. It's sort of like the "I don't care what anyone thinks" line some people use which tells everyone: You do really care what people think!

R100 it didn't make me uncomfortable. I thought it looked good. And the song made it funny too by calling out that some people might be offended by it now in 2018 vs. back then when it was just part of an outfit. If anyone was still "uncomfortable" after that, I pity them.

That muscle queen did a pretty good Cher. I thought Miz Cracker was actually good too - and I could understand all her words. I was not sure what they were complaining about. Eureka looked SCARED shitless on stage, but she sort of got her act together as it progressed. None of the others stuck out to me one way or another. I like how they're forcing them to do gay icons. So many great gay icons have STILL never been done on Snatch Game (while they repeat the constant failures like Beyonce)... so this was a good challenge idea... even though it's kind of hard to expect them all to sing.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | May 12, 2018 2:34 AM |
R112 I’m guessing it wasall orchestrated. They likely decided in production that it was funny and they could make a meme of it by repeating it, then someone leaked that it would become a thing or leaked memes and the memes caught on before the episodes caught up. A lot of planning goes into how to get attention for these shows nowadays. If it was an organic phenomenon, then that’s...phenomenal.

But I doubt it would've become such a thing without Ru broadcasting it so much. I'm surprised he bothered. Maybe he has a soft spot for queens who are eliminated on the first go?
by Anonymous | reply 117 | May 12, 2018 2:47 AM |
So with the final four being Asia, Aquaria, Eureka and Kameron, it's hard to pick a winner.
Asia because of being the only African American left standing and a black winner is "due," after Shea and Peppermint lost last season and there were five blacks this season. But Asia is nasty and not that good - including with her costuming, which supposedly is her strength. Seems rather typical and mediocre.
Kameron because of being a novelty as a muscle-dragster, a good performer and clear in his style and person. But Kameron lacks a strong persona and it's hard to see the winning quality in his drag.
Eureka because it's time for a fat queen to win, and she's improved. But she's a pain in the ass, limited in talent and a selfish cow. Plus is it necessary for a fat queen to play fat stereotypes in order to win? No other large queen has done that kind of "fat-face" schtick on the show.
Aquaria because she has a fine fashion sense and is remarkably clever and stylish, and can move well. But she's so young she has gaps (supposedly) in her drag skills, and she seems a bit like a younger and less-creepy version of Sasha Velour.
I don't much care, but at the moment it's

I thought the exchange in Untucked between Kameron and the Vixen was very interesting. Kameron avoided eye contact a lot but he was very forthright and measured in his responses. It was clear that he found the experience unpleasant, or was steeling himself for it to turn so, but he did not let himself be cowed. I respect that.

Yeah, that's why I like him the most at the moment. His looks are good too, but the ideal queen is not just an airhead with no personality serving looks (Tyra was the epitome of that). Jinkx Monsoon had a good personality too - smart / funny / quick. That's the type who should win, or at least the type I prefer to watch.

Jinx and Bianca weren't exactly the most beautiful and elegant queens, but their win was carried on their personality quite a bit. That doesn't always happen but it's nice to see Ru considers that at least when he can. He might not get enough of both this season (personality and look in the same person).
I was really surprised that was Cracker's background...it did sound a little Kimmy Schmidt meets Oliver Twist or something.

Maybe R134, or just by an asocial or nonconforming mother. I worked years ago with a young woman who had been home schooled and not allowed to watch TV or participate in pop culture at all. It was a big blind spot she was always embarrassed by. I assumed her parents were religious, but to my surprise they were atheists and just didn’t like the way a lot of things are done in society. But her mom sounded nutty...one time to teach the girl’s brother to lock the door, she put on a mask and came in through the front door and chased him around with a chef’s knife and then left. She never told him while he was a child that she was the intruder and she thought it was perfectly fine parenting.
Anyway, the young woman I worked with was incredibly sweet and incredibly smart, if socially awkward. She ended up going abroad to finish her master’s degree and is now married to a NASA scientist and finishing a PhD in geology. Unusual and unorthodox upbringing, but not a cult or any other kind or religious basis for it.

The Vixen let some of his guard down with Michelle on Whatcha Packin. He's sweet in his way. Bought a condo, has a boyfriend, getting used to flying to perform. You can tell how nervous and unready he was for the whole experience. He acquits himself pretty well in my opinion. He said the hard work is what bonded him to the other queens and that his anger was a defense mechanism. Stands by his dislike of Eureka and Aquaria. I like him and think he'll do well because honestly he's pretty dope in drag and is a very good performer. Cute guy. Something vulnerable shows when he speaks of his family and his desire to be someone.
Speaking of whatcha packin...this is not a spoiler but it's a clue to one. One of the eliminated queens did not yet appear on Whatcha Packin, which most likely means their time on Drag Race isn't really over yet.....
Valentina was Va Va Va Voom on The Pit Stop with that old dude in a dress Raja. Valentina is fake, fake, fake ass fake. But she acts sweet. I guess a lot of people prefer that. They're not really women you know. It's okay for a gay man from the hood to be a little angry. The Vixen has something to offer the world of drag and will only get better in the next year of exposure, camaraderie and coin. Valentina just poses and keeps people waiting.

She's not wrong for her. I don't believe that. Not everyone is looking to be a superstar at the expense of selling themselves out. The Vixen has a lot to learn, so what? So does Eureka and Aquaria and bitter weirdo Miz Cracker.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | May 12, 2018 6:16 AM |
Of course she's wrong. Who is she going to be touring with this year? Some of her castmates, perhaps? Some of her castmates called Eureka and/or Aquaria?
What kind of atmosphere will that create backstage or on the tour bus? What about at the Meet & Greets? Buzzkills don't get booked.

I'm black and I cannot stand The Vixen. The bitch was mean and angry and over the top and clearly playing some kind of Real Housewives bullshit. I didn't see anything intellectual about her. I was glad to see her go home, becase she has a lot of growing up to do.
That said, she is correct that black reality show contestants are held to a different standard. You look at Survivor, Big Brother or any other reality competition show and you will totally see the difference in fan reactions to black players as opposed to white players when both are playing at the same level.
I'm not calling anybody racist. But I've been watching these shows for a long time and following the online community devoted to these shows for the same amount of time. And every season you see the fans dismiss some black player or outright dislike them for what I call "odd" reasons. What I hate is when the black player is clearly playing superior game to everyone else, but totally gets ignored. Or if a black player is hardcore or 'intense' it gets blown up into something else rather quickly.
People can like who they like. My three favorite queens this season aren't even black. I like Aquaria, Eureka, and Blair. While The Vixen needs some serious therapy, she's not wrong about the double standard for black players versus white players in these types of shows among the fan community.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | May 12, 2018 8:16 AM |
Do you feel like black drag queens are expected to perform in a particular way?
Yeah. There’s a huge expectation of likability and I think the consensus is that in order to be accepted by the white audience, we have to be docile, be agreeable, be the sassy black friend, but not ruffle feathers — not push things anywhere. I am none of those things, and I don’t care to be, so I think that’s why I got such a strong reaction from the fandom. I am fully aware of the game that needs to be played to be marketable for a white audience, and I do not care to play it at all.
Did you feel in order to win, you had to do so though?
Yes. I did feel that in order to do well on the show, I would have had to “play the game,” as it’s called. In past seasons, I think you could play the game and you could show your talent. But as far as winning, it didn’t help Shangela and it didn’t help Shea win the crown. So I was much more concerned with being myself and starting the conversations that would come from being myself.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | May 12, 2018 9:49 AM |
So delusional. She is trying to frame her anger and cuntiness as some high-minded "I just cared too much" bullshit. This is all about her trying to save face. You could see her calculating when she was packing to go home with the fake tears and she's just continuing to do so. And she hasn't once admitted she was wrong without a huge "I wasn't really wrong because black people / my caring for others" soliloquy afterwards to explain away her actions. She's learned nothing and there's enough stans for her that she will continue to exist in her weird bitter bubble and claim she's just "being real" and that's why many people dislike her.

I agree r151. Also, in general, nobody likes cunty white queens either (to respond to the quotes in r150). Milk was not well received on All-Stars for his attitude, and he wasn't nearly as cunty as The Vixen. It's not racial. If you're an ass hole - you're an ass hole. Everyone loves Latrice and many other black queens. And there's plenty of hate for white queens who had nails-on-chalkboard personalities.

by Anonymous | reply 158 | May 12, 2018 1:57 PM |
"That’s the work I did in Chicago. I was the person who called out those situations and called out the classism and racism in my own city, so I was glad that that carried into my drag on Drag Race. "
"I am glad that my other sisters of color on the show got less heat because it was all directed in one place, so instead of the five of us being attacked, I’m glad that they had a better experience because I took the heat."
"My approach in the situation was whoever got sent home or whoever we said should be sent home would be very hurt, and I just didn’t have the capacity to do that to Asia or Monet — or even Aquaria or Monique. The only person I was willing to hurt in that way was Eureka. That’s why it was so hurtful that they were willing to do it to me, but that wasn’t the way that they were seeing it. I understand it, but it still hurt."
"I am fully aware of the game that needs to be played to be marketable for a white audience, and I do not care to play it at all."
"When a white man chooses to be a drag queen, they are opting into a luxurious life of this rich white woman fantasy, and some of them are actually rich white men, but even if they aren’t, they are putting out this Barbie image of privilege. Choosing to be a black drag queen is exactly the opposite. It’s choosing to already be a second-class citizen and to take yourself down a peg. "
"By creating my own show, I gave black drag queens in Chicago the opportunity to shine the way that white queens did, but I didn’t have that same advantage on the show, especially up against Eureka or Aquaria."
"So my Southside Trash campaign came out of a bartender being very ignorant about who was allowed to celebrate Pride in Boystown in Chicago... rom that, it also gave me a lot of respect in the industry because I was doing something that was creating change, and so I rallied the troops and I got the queens of color together and we started a show where we could express our feelings about the election last year... It just snowballed into a movement and it really changed the culture in Chicago."
"Sometimes, it’s okay to just let someone know that they’ve hurt your feelings instead of just clapping back. My thing is I’m afraid to be the victim. The villain? I don’t mind. But being the victim is not something I look forward to."
by Anonymous | reply 159 | May 12, 2018 1:59 PM |

I think Eureka deserves to win. She was out so early in season 9 that everyone just assumed she was a throwaway for season ten. I think a lot of them had ideas about who Eureka was. Big Fat and Loud. Her early performances sort of lead to that as well. I think her bottom two was her come to Jesus moment. She sort of came alive, with the Snatch Game being a win. I think her portraying Honey Boo Boo was so well played and a great performance. I don't think anyone has performed as well as her across the season.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | May 12, 2018 2:43 PM |
r172 Reddit seems to HATE Eureka. I think it's because she's fat and isn't ashamed of it like they want her to be. Of the existing queens though, I think she's the frontrunner.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | May 12, 2018 2:48 PM |
Which is also funny because they're the first to cry racism and tone policing and microaggressions, but they are doing it to Eureka with the one thing that is still unforgivable in today's society: being fat. Eureka makes them uncomfortable because she's okay with it and uses it for jokes, and they don't like that, so they're blaming it on her "loudness" or whatever. Interesting when the tables are turned, especially how they don't realize it themselves.

Do y'all think the 'southside trash' bartender that vixen can't stop mentioning was hot? I bet he was a hot popular white guy that the vixen is envious of. If he'd been a nobody then she wouldn't be so obsessed with combatting his opinion. Vixen was probably just being her rowdy ass self and the bartender was over dealing with it
by Anonymous | reply 175 | May 12, 2018 7:28 PM |
The webmouths hate Eureka because she is not a large woman of color. Period.
The Vixen, who I like as a man and think has potential as a drag queen, exemplifies the new racism, where any white is "white privileged" and needs "instruction" in order to be worthy of "respect." Meaning that a couple generations of uneducated, confused, trouble-for-home-life, upset, take-anything-but-responsibility people from historically disadvantaged groups have invented another game to avoid taking personal responsibility. Meaning black bullshit.
White bullshit says everyone has the same opportunities today, that black people (or Hispanics or Indians or Asians women or gays or trans people or whoever) "bring it on themselves," which is just as offensive and wrong. But thinking you are empowered to act out for selfish motives because YOU are "enraged" is both demented and unhelpful. It also tells the lie about people who pour their personal troubles into a phony "I'm speaking for my people" pose. You all ain't speakin' for nobody but yourselves, and that includes everyone like this, all the way down to the Trump Zombies.

My parents had a hard time understanding the notion of drag as not being transgenderism. (I find that a lot of baby boomer generation people do.) I finally got them to understand by telling them trans men are “in the wrong body” and want to be seen as women, and drag queens are gay clowns who dress up in ridiculous costumes for nightlife and don’t walk around that way outside of nightclubs, etc. It was the “clown” thing that got them to understand drag is pure entertainment.

Tyra didn't blow up DragCon, it was just a troll. And an excuse for some Redditers to bring out the drama "I was so scared!!" etc. But also apparently some Very Concerned people reported it to the LAPD and an officer contacted her through email. She gave a really long rambling defense of it being "art", rule lawyering the meaning of the word threat, and generally speaking of it really vaguely. I don't think she posted the final few emails where she told him the truth, that it was a fake out. Some Reddit poster said you could sense the officer's eyerolls for, probably trying to close the case because is boss had a lot of hysterical queens calling and reporting it.
Everyone seems angry at her so maybe this will push her over the edge to become The Drag Queen Assassin!

In a situation like RuPaul's Drag Race - run by a black man, when you take the fans completely out of the equation, every queen who brings her A game has an equal chance. Does Ru have his favorites? Is the fix in for certain queens? All that is possible. But when the show is over and these queens have to rely on tips and the kindness of fans that is when you pivot and figure out a way to get your message out there in a little softer manner so you don't alienate people.

The quality of the songwriting for the musical numbers has gone down hill since Ru's falling out with Lucian Piane. I know he's batshit crazy, but he's adept at pastiche and could usually produce a few catchy ditties when called upon.

The musicals have always been a weak link on the show IMO. Lucian was better than Toddrick, but given his singing the praises of Hitler a couple of years ago, I prefer Toddrick. But I would really prefer if they found something better to fill time than these terrible choreographed numbers.

The lyrics for Cher the Rusical were actually quite funny, but apart from Cameron they all ate them, so many laughs were lost. But agree with above, the Rusicals have become very very shitty

I doubt Todrick wrote the lyrics. He doesn't seem old enough to know much about Cher.

People are thinking Miz Cracker, since people in line reported she took a two hour lunch break.
And yeah, Asia and Eureka clearly just don't get along.

If you go back and watch the earlier episodes, Asia does seem like a bit of a cunt. She holds back for the cameras.

R238 Todrick seems to be the worst coach, too. He says cutting little barbs to be cute and it isn't the best way to motivate people.

Asia is apparently trying to stir up shit against Eureka. I bet she thinks she could be Miss Congeniality because of her heartwarming moment(tm) with The Vixen. So she's trying, in her ham-fisted way, to take out the competition.
by Anonymous | reply 246 | May 15, 2018 11:16 PM |
Miss Congeniality will be Vangie.

by Anonymous | reply 251 | May 15, 2018 11:45 PM |
Tearfully or weakly emotional; foolishly sentimental:
not drunken.
Sick of hearing her drama ramas
by Anonymous | reply 252 | May 15, 2018 11:48 PM |
You mean her story about her "physical altercation' with her dad? I thought it was kind of silly myself but she actually did seem kind of timid when she came on the stage as Cher, so who knows. It's hard to tell with the mixed up therapeutic language people use now - jargon in places it sounds odd.
I think she's just open and says what's on her mind - she's honest about her flaws and that is annoying to some people. But I also think that her being unashamed of being fat and loud is a turnoff for people too. In that case it's funny because I expect a loud, sassy black queen wouldn't get as much pushback as she does. It's a split down stereotypes - fat sassy black friend vs. the fat white trash person. The first is desirable for gay men and the second is repulsive. For some people that is. I can see it, too.

I don’t like Eureka. I find her whiny and she reminds me of white women who turn on the tears to get out of having consequences. With that said, she is performing the best and winning this season wouldn’t bug me.
by Anonymous | reply 260 | May 16, 2018 2:08 AM |
Vixen was a bitch but I REALLY appreciated her ghetto realness and how she was a trouper and would stay up all night to cut and paste and glue her crafty outfits, which all looked about the same and not that good but you kind of admired the consistency and making something out of nothing. Obviously not someone who arrived with suitcases of looks.
by Anonymous | reply 261 | May 16, 2018 2:09 AM |
R259, the contest was made of queens eliminated first and Porkchop won. I have no idea what the criteria was though. Also, Vanjie was in it too so surprised she didn’t win it.

Producers know that the polished queens who want to build a teen following will make for gorgeous runways but boring TV. So they cast a mix of Future A Listers (Aquaria, Eureka, Mayhem, Cracker) with scrappy boogers (Dusty, Karbdashian, Vixen) since they know the newbies will bring the noise.

So what did Asia accuse Eureka of doing? I want all the juicy details!
by Anonymous | reply 265 | May 16, 2018 4:51 AM |
R265 Not having a photo taken with her at DragCon
by Anonymous | reply 266 | May 16, 2018 11:26 AM |
Apparently she tried to cut in line at some point during DragCon and see Eureka, but Eureka's event staff didn't know who she was and refused to allow her to cut in front of the tons of people waitng, unbeknownst to Eureka. Then Asia posted two vaugebook reads on Instagram about it and people filled in the blanks to mean Eureka. Eureka said she had no clue and she'd reached out to Asia but she wasn't responding.
So it's just more of the bullshit Asia has been hiding all season that you saw a little of in the first few episodes, where she isnt as wise as she claims to be and blames others for issues (like her helping the other queens and then blaming them for not having time to finish her own garment). That's the real Asia. There's also somehing on Eureka dropping the O'Hara because people thought it meant she and Asia were related, queenwise, and Asia didn't like that. So Asia is basically more of a cunt than she wishes people to believe and doesn't like Eureka, as she said in the earlier episodes. It's no wonder that she was friends with The Vixen, probably goading her on in her beef with Eureka (although The Vixen would have managed that on her own I'm sure).

I guess the new rumor is they're not learning their lesson about the horrible AS3 and they're starting casting for AS4, to be filmed later this summer. World of Wonder really wants to drive this bus off the cliff, huh?
by Anonymous | reply 268 | May 17, 2018 12:59 AM |
The Vixen is a babe and a queen who's going places. Asia O'hara resembles RuPaul himself more than any queen that has ever appeared on the show. Not only or primarily in looks. I'd rather watch Asia and The Vixen perform than Eureka anyday. Eureka is winning the season and I see that, but the season has little to do with how well Drag Queens really perform for paying customers. Eureka is funny and fat and loud, has well made custom pieces that give her proportion and is not too slow on the uptake.
The Vixen is black girl magic and Asia is the most beautiful mocha cinnamon mama bitch pageant fake real queen with WIT they've ever found. For the posters who pretend that all things are equal because Ru and the show are not prejudiced with casting- that's a facile anodyne that black and latinx viewers don't buy. Latrice, Chi Chi, Kennedy Davenport, Shangela, Peppermint, and Shea Coulee were all unfairly eliminated so more popular (white, comedic, homely) players with fandom support could win. There have been others. Don't give me the business that Bianca is from Honduras. He's a white boy costume designer from New York. Ask Tattiana how many fans react to discovering she's biracial. When a black boy connects with the fandom, aka MANBOB (not a drag queen, a failed actor) then he can win. Otherwise The Vixen is right, what the black queens do on the show is underscored and undervalued. Ru has an obvious soft spot for many of them but that don't get in the way of his business empire and who runs it. The last gutsy winner than RuPaul chose was Violet. Season 7 kind of changed everything. So The Vixen can be herself, she wasn't too mature and for sure diluted her own message, but she knows the consequences and they aren't all bad. Little Miz Cracker is not ready for death threats. Eureka is this season's winner and already blowing them off at Dragcon. It's a gross display to be honest. So much money to be made and so much of a queen's illusion gone forever. Ru won't throw the gender confused makeup tutorial loving children two bones in a row, so Aquaria will place second. Time for a funny fat girl to win. Ginger Ming almost had it all but she was just too much of a corny mean toad. The children didn't like her, lucky for Violet.
The Vixen didn't have the longest lineups at Dragcon but she slayed in a live performance. Raja, Bob and Bianca briefly appeared in half drag last year, yawning through the crowd.
Manila Luzon will never disappoint you.

Oh please. Chi Chi is a sweetheart, but her drag is still rough. Peppermint, Shea, and Shangela all made it to the finals. Shangela has been on the show 3 fucking times. Just because they didn't win doesn't mean they were undervalued. Vixen is full of shit. The most loathed queens that have been on the show - Roxxy and PhiPhi - are not black, unless I missed something.

Roxxy and Phi Phi are only loathed by the old fags on DL. Not by the actual audience of the show. Someone doesn't know who gets the real hate. The RPDR fandome is extremely racist.

Asia was my pick early on but in no way does she resemble Ru more than any Ru girl. Ru is tough as nails. I'd venture to say that Ru sees more of himself in Aquaria than any other queen this season.
by Anonymous | reply 278 | May 17, 2018 2:03 AM |
Aquaria is stupid. Ru is not stupid. Maybe you mistake Aquaria's attempt at giving neck as black woman attitude?
by Anonymous | reply 279 | May 17, 2018 2:08 AM |
Asia is just petty. Eureka maybe loud and annoying, but the hate she got from Vixen was really unfounded and very nasty.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | May 17, 2018 2:10 AM |
The strong black queens often don't have the pop culture encyclopedia quality that Ru values. The most polished ones are often from the pageant scene, not the club scene like Ru. The ones that are more subversive and funny often are a little sloppy in their looks and presentation.
I loved Kennedy as Little Richard and in the Bitchelor challenge. I even loved the dead hooker phoenix concept/explanation. But she did not do all that well as a talking head. Part of what helped Ru make a name for herself is that she gave good interview. With the help of her collaborators, she packaged herself well. She was likeable but NOT docile (remember Milton Berle). She could entertain by just sitting there and chatting, to the point that she was in drag almost became immaterial. Kennedy hasn't got that. Bob comes closest but he lacks the interest in glamour.

It pisses me off that Eureka mentions her family at the end of that post addressing the Asia DragCon controversy. Bringing up family for such a non-incident is manipulative as fuck.

r282 - umm Asia took it to social media and make Eureka look like shit. So bad all the other season queens were dragging her. Even when she apologized to Eureka she was shady. She said "to clarify Eureka's people stopped me, I don't know if Eureka even knew I was there, but Eureka's people did not know who I was and were rude to me."
Ummm- sorry you had all the free time to go to EVERY other queens booth. It reminds me of the James Charles kid who was supposed to be at dragcon and then cancelled because he was sick, then showed up and cut everyline to get pictures with the queens. There is video of Latrice looking at her and saying "all these people are waiting in line" and the kid goes on to tell Latrice who he is blah blah blah.....

I don’t like Eureka either. She’s talented but she’s also a passive aggressive manipulator. Whenever things aren’t going well for her she turns to some personal story where she’s a victim in order to avoid consequences for her actions. She’ll probably win unless Asia really steps it up.

Eureka's ok, but I hope they don't have her on the fast track to be the plus-size messiah the show has never had. I would so have preferred Ginger Minj, or Darienne Lake, or Latrice Royale, or even Delta Work. Eureka has no personality, it's all just poorly timed schtick.

Monique is missed. She's so likeable she makes everyone look good. Monique screams in excitement at seeing Chachki and Violet says "Have your moment." There were some hot messes at DragCon but everyone looks happy and well here. Alaska is always such a fan of other great queens and clearly she approves of Monique. Fix your lace front Monique and make WoW give you a damn show.
I want Aquaria or Asia to win. Eureka is not being her real self, that's clear. Fat people learn to pretend early.

I agree with everyone else, there's just something very, very produced about Eureka. It's almost like during her season 9 touring she was given some insider info to be used in her favor during season 10. The thing is, I want to like her. I do think she has a certain hint of slapstick humor that I tend to enjoy. However, I just feel like something is definitely off.

Kameron, Miss No Personality, consistently does the best job at everything compared to these others.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | May 18, 2018 11:31 AM |
I thought Eureka was great in the lip sync and I didn't really like any of the girls in the Breastworks production except Aquaria. Aquaria's looks look expensive but I don't know if I can see her as a drag host? She doesn't seem to have the quick wit required. I also hope the winner - and I could see her winning - isn't just another twink drag queen like Sasha or Violet or Pearl or even Tyra. At least Sasha has brains. Aquaria seems too... produced? Like she is being directed by someone who paid for her looks.
I didn't think Asia's part was that great and I didn't like her runway look - for a queen who can sew I don't think her style is that standout or good - it just feels like she randomly pulls a bunch of shit together. Her looks seem simple and meh. She's no Kim Chi.
Whoever wrote the Breastworld skit was a terrible writer - the ad libs were better than the writing.
Eureka feels genuine to me, not sure what the rest of you are seeing. I think Asia has a very high opinion of herself and wants to present herself as this wise woman, but she showed her true colours in the first few episodes and I can't get that out of my head. Eureka's been pretty consistent and seems to wear her heart on her sleeve. I think some people think the southern drawl on certain people seems fake and patronising regardless of who is delivering it.
Anyone else feel like Ru punched Eureka a bit with the two shantays and saving her last? Like she was saying "don't get too comfortable, bitch, I can cut you at the drop of a hat". I think it was a warning. Not sure what happened offstage but I think she was sending a message. It may not have been to Eureka though?
by Anonymous | reply 303 | May 18, 2018 11:59 AM |
Yes the Breastworld was very poorly written and conceived. The best part of this week's episodes were the guys in their underwear. I do like Eureka because there's no one else to root for. I'm really underwhelmed this season. No matter who wins it'll be as exciting as a Pearl or a Trixie Mattel win...How about switching gears next season and do an International Drag Race. It seems they' re having a hard time finding exciting drag queens in America. They have to do something fresh to keep our interest. I hope what I read about a new All-Star season is false. They really do not have the queens to do it !

The script for Breastworld was thin and really needed someone who could ad lib. I think that Monet should have won. Her runway was funnier than Asia's. Asia has really only slain it one time on the runway so not sure where she's getting her attitude. Her earth-mother schtick she's serving backstage is really grating.

I'm not sure I believe all of that. I've been to two DragCons. Fans and Queens are separated for the most part when they are in their booths. There are fan lines everywhere. You'd have to be blind not to understand where to go. Asian was in full drag and I'm sure at least one of Eureka's "staff" knew who she is. C'mon now.

R312 like I said, they are limited by budget. They probably have the funds to pay for a few good new songs each season and stick to older ones for the rest. That's how productions work.

R311 I'm not sure what you are saying. Eureka was in her little blocked area and had event staff at the front handling the line. We don't know if she was in full drag or not. And not everyone watches this show or this season. It's popular, but not among everyone. Eureka was using a service provided by an event company so she didn't personally hire the people.

The Chilean edition, [italic]The Switch Drag Race: El Arte del Transformismo,[/italic] has a "Chile vs. The World" theme for its current season. R314 it depends on the song and the age and popularity. Some are more expensive than others. Many are in libraries owned by a small number of licensing arms. I'd expect Ru has a bigger budget since she moved to E! from cheapass Logo.

I am a little tired of these long drawn out musicals, and parodies. Has there even been one sewing challenge?
by Anonymous | reply 318 | May 19, 2018 12:02 AM |
R318 I wish they'd do more "design on a dime" challenges where they have to assemble looks from a bag of crap or something. That's what's turning me off with Aquaria's outfits - they are all SO professionally made it actually seems unfair to the queens who can't afford it this season. It's really obvious she hasn't made them and they were made well in advance. Like the old lady look, even that weird number looked professionally crafted.
by Anonymous | reply 319 | May 19, 2018 12:16 AM |
r318 Yeah, they've been done to death now. And they're all written so horribly for some reason, which makes them even worse. Why is the gay version of Westworld called Breastworld, for starters?!
When was the last time they had a transformation challenge with a family member, crew, random people...? That's always fun, right? On the other hand, it could be argued that musicals and sketches are kinda the things that are most useful out in the real world when it comes to drag queens.
Eureka was in her little blocked area and had event staff at the front handling the line.
Yes, I know I was there but I didn't see the action taking place. The only blocked area not visible to fans is Ru's photo area. All the queens are visible to fans. Their booths all have lines for fans to wait in. The staff is a mix of the queens staff, Dragcon /WOW staff, Merch staff and convention staff and security. At the booths it's queen and merch staff. There also could have been DC/WOW staff at the booths but it didn't seem like there was. Even if Asian was out of costume there is no way she took off her make-up. I just don't believe 100% of the story being fed. There's something missing. That's all. Btw, Jasmine Master had the best booth. Shirts hanging from hangers on the curtain back drop. She was there to sell! She was so great! Jush!

The reviews for this episode seem to mention the bad writing for the acting challenge almost universally. So it wasn't just us thinking it kinda sucked and the girls didn't have a lot to work with. The NYT review seems to cover it pretty well - them magazine's guy hates Eureka and seems to just parrot whatever the judges say. (Like, who really thought Asia's performance was that great? It was okay, in amidst a bunch of okay performances that were limited with shitty writing and a stupid idea. She in no way deserved to win that).
by Anonymous | reply 322 | May 19, 2018 12:20 AM |
R321 Maybe something's missing because Asia made it up.
by Anonymous | reply 323 | May 19, 2018 12:21 AM |
What's funny is I just rewatched the Empire spoof from Bob the Drag Queen's season (8) and the writing in that wasn't that great either. What made it hilarious was Thorgy Thor, Bob, and Kim Chi (mostly). And Bob's ad libbing really punched up the script. The "I'm gay!" lines for those two skits were stupid and they were done by the two worst actors which didn't help. But it's amazing how bad the writing for that was versus how funny the final scenes were.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | May 19, 2018 12:27 AM |
Maybe r323 but you don't know that.
by Anonymous | reply 325 | May 19, 2018 12:29 AM |
R325 no, I'm just going by what they both said. Your "something's just not quite Chippewa" feeling is as much a guess as my "perhaps Asia lied" comment. It was for comparison. It makes as much logical sense as your claim.
by Anonymous | reply 326 | May 19, 2018 12:31 AM |
r322 I quite like Eureka and the writing *was* absolute garbage but... what kind of an aspie needs direction on properly mimicking shooting someone with a fake gun?! The Ivy Winters but was strange as well; is she not comfortable with her higher register or something? Because I can't carry a tune for shit and even I can pull off a decent Ivy Winters.
r324 I tend to compare everything to that Empire sketch as well. Gods, we really didn't appreciate those queens enough while they were still on the show.

by Anonymous | reply 329 | May 19, 2018 12:37 AM |
R327 something was weird about the editing this episode. Did you notice how they cut out everything from Eureka's comments to the judges except about the coat? They didn't show the question the judges asked about it because her answer didn't make sense with the edits. The entire episode seemed set up to show her in a bad light to make the lip sync make sense. When I saw her performance in the final play, she seemed okay to me, just like the others were mostly okay (she was better than Kameron though).
During Untucked she mentioned how the judges seemed gunning for her and I think she was right.

by Anonymous | reply 331 | May 19, 2018 12:52 AM |
I get that the writing was shit but... fuck... Cracker couldn't even deliver the nice/nasty dig at "Kameron's" hair in Breastworld. Who among us hasn't encountered someone who's nice/nasty. It's an easy bit to do.
Even with Cracker's consistent underperforming, it felt like they were produced to perform poorly. Eureka's inability to say "Ivy Winters" in the well known way... it reminded me of Alyssa and her inability to say "doo-dah". No one is that inept. I think producers planned it or seized upon it as a mistake and decided to make it a story point - i.e. they wouldn't allow the queen to recover and say it right, it needed to stay an "obstacle".
by Anonymous | reply 332 | May 19, 2018 12:56 AM |
I get the feeling they are setting Asia up to win. Honestly, she should be gone by now. Her outfits are really good but she is not that great of a performer.
by Anonymous | reply 333 | May 19, 2018 1:02 AM |
Also I get that the show has a ton of insider references now but that shit is TIRED. I wanted to kill Ru the fifth time she said that during Ivy's season. And Colbert's use of the lingo, despite him being Colbert, was almost, but not quite, eyeroll inducing. They need to change it up. Even Millennials aren't using the same slang they were five years ago. At least they aren't saying "Kiki" as much as they used to.
by Anonymous | reply 334 | May 19, 2018 1:03 AM |
R333 I think her outfits are okay but erratic. And you're right, her performances aren't great. They're just okay. They are really pushing her mother hen storyline, even in Untucked. I wonder if they decided she'd be in the top three by the third episode - the first few episodes she was coming across as kind of a cunt with the Vixen, then after they seemed to only show her in a good light. I just don't see how she can be the winner with Aquaria there though. If not Eureka, Aquaria is the next queen to beat.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | May 19, 2018 1:07 AM |
I'm pretty sure that it's fine for a Broadway production to hire any British actor they want, even a non-star, as long as they subsequently give an American actor a role in a London who to make up for it. I think there's supposed to be an even exchange. But that's a separate issue from American stars going over to do limited runs in London, and vice-versa.

I agree there should be an ¨international¨ season. With some queens from English speaking countries (and I say this as a non native english speaker), like the UK, Australia, etc. Or at the very least some queens from Canada and the UK.

by Anonymous | reply 338 | May 19, 2018 1:11 AM |
R337 I figured there was a reason they limited the queens to American only, with Puerto Rico being the furthest away they got them. Assumed it was for Visa/legal purposes. And I think they've done RuPaul's DR in other countries like Australia and South Korea.

by Anonymous | reply 341 | May 19, 2018 1:17 AM |
My issue with Eureka was exemplified by her behaviour in Untucked. She's always trying to wrap everything up neatly in a nice bow. I thought it was a mistake to leave in her line about "wailing like a whale" when told she could stay. It's bad storytelling to have someone tell us X when we've already seen X. It took me out of the moment and I also didn't agree with Eureka's summation of the moment. Cumulatively, she always seems to be shaping the narrative all too visibly, like she's producing herself harrrddd. It puts me at a remove from her as a viewer.
Cracker is also working hard at producing herself and it's shut her down as a performer in the main challenge.. I wonder if her low key attempts at shit stirring in the eork room and in Untucked are from her or the producers. I also wonder if her support of Vixen is genuine. That bar incident mentioned a while back made me wonder if Cracker was the "ally" who was nowhere to be seen.
I was confused by the chronology of Cracker's mother going blind. If the season sits in the can for a year, does that mean Mom is already blind during the broadcast?
Cracker's sister is precious. WOW should have jumped on the road trip idea and given them a special/series.

Me too re: Eureka. She's been consistently good, despite a few "okay" moments.
I really think it's her southern accent and way of speaking that makes her seem disengenuous to people. Some people hear a southern accent like that and assume the "bless your heart!" style passive aggressiveness by default.
A lot of people like Eureka - just the Redditors and some online crowd really hate her for some reason and they chase off people who don't agree with them. Sort of like the Meghan Markle haters here on the DL. The extreme ones I mean.
Asia seems to be getting set up to be in the top three but she really doesn't deserve it in my opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 347 | May 19, 2018 1:34 AM |
Monet deserved this win but they are determined not to give her one. Ru says you better wear big hair, so he won't reward you for your better and cruder choice on the aged runway. Monet and Monique are in talks for some Wowpresents show. MoMo. Asia did fine, better than the rest. It was a craptastic episode but how cute is Aquaria becoming?
The Vixen had a lewk for this episode too. I like it.
by Anonymous | reply 348 | May 19, 2018 2:45 AM |
If you follow who they are featuring you can pretty much tell it is Asia, Eureka, Kameron and Aquaria in the Final Four. If they follow last year and do the two on two lip sync I am guessing a re-match of Kamron and Eureka and Aquaria and Asia. Hopefully, it does not turn into stunt fest. If I were a betting man I would say Eureka and Asia in final two. Asia is a costume queen so I would bet she will pull out all the stunts, I am thinking if she makes final 4 she wins..
by Anonymous | reply 349 | May 19, 2018 3:47 AM |
SPOILER ALERT
Duh, it's already known that Kameron sends home Monet next episode and then somewhat bitterly Miz Cracker. Because by then it is Kameron's third time in the bottom but Miz Cracker's first. She takes it hard. She and Monet never win a challenge. Miz Cracker overestimated herself but if she kept her confidence her time in season 10 might not have been such a failure.
So yes Aquaria, Eureka, Asia and Kameron are final four. But one more goes before a final three. Kameron. They are not repeating season's 9's blatant and fixed attempt to balance the sensitivities of the trans community, the rightful but somehow undeserving winner of Shea, the winner RuPaul wanted - Trinity Taylor and the fandom queen Sasha Velour, who won only 1 challenge. How fixed it was who knows but they wanted Peppermint to make the final two, so she did.
Season 10 has the equally worthy talents of three very different queens. Asia, Aquaria and Eureka. They return to the usual format of a final challenge and a finale reveal of the winner.

Has anyone eeen Aquaria perform live? Does she have an entertaining stage persona?
by Anonymous | reply 352 | May 19, 2018 4:43 AM |
Aquaria is a shit live performer and unlikely to ever get better. There's a disconnect there. So the fact that she never lands in the bottom two and joins Bianca and Violet as a queen who never has to lip sync on their season adds to some conspiracies that she will win. Bianca and Violet are not great musical interpreters either, though both have other stage talents. You can check Aquaria out on Youtube but she really is terrible, physically awkward with no musical sense. Sasha never lipped last season before the showdown and then we saw something surprising from her, great costume, wig and intensity. That wonderful Whitney Houston song helped. Nothing worth the crown IMO.
Aquaria has no such surprise. Violet was and is burlesque, she performed with Dita Von Teese shows and travels the world doing her thing. She was also surprisingly good on the BOTS tour. She and Miss Fame earned their Drag Race credits and in her solo Violet remained aloof and sexy as hell. Aquaria doesn't move well, doesn't project sex or a glamorous attitude. She looks great and can be funny. Cute for sure. Pretty terrible though.

Was bizarre to see Colbert, especially because he didn't do very much except the workroom introduction and the voice-over for Breastworld. I kept waiting for him to show up in person. Agree with everyone who said the Breastworld challenge was poorly written and I didn't some of the judges' critiques when they said the queens could have made their parts/lines work. Kameron definitely was the worst in the challenge but he killed the LSFYL and I was somewhat annoyed by the non-elimination. It seemed like a cheap ploy, not to mention draining on Eureka who had expected to go home.
by Anonymous | reply 354 | May 19, 2018 6:46 AM |
Cheap ploy?
Yes. By letting Eureka stay. She's a horrid ego trip. a mediocre performer, and not emotionally stable enough to win. She needs to just explode and get it over with. Ugly personality.
by Anonymous | reply 355 | May 19, 2018 6:56 AM |
Eureka did not expect to go home. Hell no. She is obnoxious BUT Kameron is mentally ill. Truly one of the most bizarre contestants they've ever had. He always looks great on the Runway - if it was the curtain call for a female impersonator revue. He is more robotic than Derek Berry. The lip sync was good but he's so fucking strange.

I’m starting to think Cracker is a pathological liar like Robbie Turner. Her stories are too extreme and dramatic. And if they are true, that they were so poor that they had to build arts and crafts for money and were eating condiments for meals, then her mother was a piece of shit for not getting a real fucking job to feed her children.
I don’t think she’s going blind at all. Cracker’s credibility is too shaky right now.

The biggest problem with Todrick’s choreography is that it’s too specific and elaborate for the queens and really inhibits them from doing what they do know how to freestyle and throws them off from trying to build a performance.
He’s just making them into what he would do. And as we saw from that terrible video he made with RuPaul, he’s a shit drag queen.

by Anonymous | reply 388 | May 21, 2018 6:29 PM |
No, nazi teenagers and SJW trans activists are why Sasha Velour won and Peppermint made the top two. Asia and Eureka have an equal chance of winning. It would be Eureka's time if she didn't keep revealing her pettiness and fake sincerity. That cost Ginger the win in season 7. Aquaria has a chance of winning too. They're all about equal in my eyes. It's Monet and Monique that were robbed of more praise. Don't play the race card, it doesn't look good on ancient pasty white men who haven't been to a club in decades. Asia is a very good queen, but is she as great as Kennedy Davenport? No. But CHARM is one of the words in C.U.N.T. Asia has charm and polish and beauty and good stage presence. Don't count her out. But I think Eureka will win this year and you don't won't hear too many POC complaining. She's damn talented. SJW, what a quaint term. We are all SJWs now children.

R394, of course on a superficial level you are correct, and the person does seem ridiculous.
However, are you familiar with the phrase, "Too far east is west"? The SJWs and the white nationalists share at least extremists' desire for control. The pretext for believing oneself and one's opinion's morally or ethically superior to everyone else's, to isolate and demonize various groups, to develop and use specialized language and phrases for propaganda reasons, and to hector and ridicule others in the name of their informed authority, is the same with all groups. We do not live in a two-pole political world of left and right. In fact, left and right meet in authoritarian, theocratic, and/or hierarchical systems.
Mere liberalism or conservatism are no longer meaningful as concepts, and haven't been for many decades. After all, both LBJ and Nixon, abject lunatics in some ways and from differing political world, managed to expand various freedoms and social programs despite who and what they were. And Clinton and Reagan both led major changes in social welfare programs that saw some cutback, despite their differences.
It's now a matter of who is worse. And when an SJW or Nazi is shrieking at me (as they do), my reaction is pretty much the same.
by Anonymous | reply 399 | May 21, 2018 7:04 PM |
Eh, remove the "nazi teenagers" part (WTF? that doesn't even make sense) and I can't really disagree with R389's first sentence.
The mini-tournament in the finale got the two queens with the best track records eliminated first. Peppermint was very, very lucky to get the runner-up spot after a bunch of OK (and some not-so-OK) performances and sloppy runway looks, but it was clear they wanted to keep the trans queen as long as possible. The silly 11th-hour plot twists in the last two seasons have radically changed the outcome both times, and I'm not quite sure how I feel about that.
It should come down to Eureka and Aquaria, and Asia is clearly not on their level, but who knows if there's going to be another plot twist. I hope not.

Eureka is the clear front runner but it really looks as if they are setting up Asia to be the winner despite her looks not being the best (When she bills herself as the look queen, which is what's so jarring about it) and her comedy is so-so. She gave a good lipsync against The Vixen, I'll allow her that. But I saw her real personality in the first few episodes and it just makes the subsequent episodes with her playing the drag-mom to everyone more jarring and "edited" feeling. And I think they're giving Eureka a bad edit now.
by Anonymous | reply 404 | May 21, 2018 7:21 PM |
If Asia wins she'll be one of the least impressive winners to me. For being a pageant girl, she is kind of unpolished.
by Anonymous | reply 405 | May 21, 2018 7:28 PM |
See that's the thing that keeps being surprising to me! Aquaria's looks are SO MUCH BETTER. Yeah, I know she bought them all, but from day one Asia's been trumpeting herself as this master seamstress who has made looks for famous people but what she's shown on the runway has been pretty banal. And TBH the contact lenses are kind of irritating as well.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | May 21, 2018 7:30 PM |
Yeah Asia's run on the show doesn't justify her winning IMO, but you could say the same about Sasha Velour and Trixie Mattel. Now the precedent has been set that anyone can win, regardless if they shined on the season or not. Before the queen that deserved to win won, even in cases where they were very unpopular like Tyra Sanchez.
by Anonymous | reply 407 | May 21, 2018 7:31 PM |
r407 Sasha had a lot more looks that she made herself. Remember that season had some "create x out of y" challenges, if I remember correctly. And she had a lot of wit and style.
This season we haven't seen hardly anyone making outfits except for I think one challenge (the one where what's her face ruined the expensive material).
It's weird how mismatched the people are this season. Aquaria has transparently bought her outfits and probably hasn't made anything. Miz Cracker I think is the same way but she might have more creativity than Aquaria. But Aquaria's looks are SO POLISHED that they're unreal. You know, looking at them, that she did not make them, and she's just modeling them, and that's what is so distracting about them. Then you go to someone like The Vixen or the queen who was always complaining about not having the money to compete whose looks look like they were glued together the night before.
by Anonymous | reply 408 | May 21, 2018 7:36 PM |
r407 I don't agree that Tyra should have won. She was all looks, and no personality. She was a model. That's what people didn't like about the season, I thought. I thought the whole point of Drag Race was that the winning queen had to have it ALL - the looks, the comedy, the speaking ability, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 409 | May 21, 2018 7:38 PM |
Tyra would never have won any other subsequent season than S2, and especially today. The show has evolved so much and the criteria has changed.
I'm not quite sure I agree with Asia being touted as the "look queen", even though her qualifications as a seamstress and costume designer have been brought up more than once. I think that title has been given to Aquaria. Ru even referred to her as such just before Aquaria's critiques during the space ball challenge after Aquaria complimented Ru on her own look. I also agree with R278, who said that Ru sees herself in Aquaria, and I can sense that in the way that Ru speaks to her in the workroom. Aquaria's costumes may have all been bought, by a sugar daddy or otherwise, but she knows how to execute and serve them well.

by Anonymous | reply 411 | May 21, 2018 7:53 PM |
r410 Asia is the one that keeps mentioning it in almost every episode. That's the thing that is jarring. Aquaria is primarily a model, but she isn't useless in comedy. But Asia keeps talking about how her Looks are what she's known for and made for, but then you see them, and they're like... eh. So yeah, Aquaria may be known as a look queen now of the show, but that's based on her looks. Asia thinks SHE is the looks queen.
I don't care if her costumes were bought or not, just what I realized in the previous post - it's the difference between her and the other queens that's so jarring. Although I do like it better when they have "make x from y" challenges versus the queens just arriving with their looks purchased because they told them ahead of time what to have prepared.
Ru fancies herself a people-reader and a psychic, or something. I think she's good but she reminds me a bit of one of my therapists who would say "It seems like you're doing this because y" and I'm like, "well, that's an idea, but no".
by Anonymous | reply 412 | May 21, 2018 7:53 PM |
yes, r409. But Raven did NOT have a better personality of more acting ability than Tyra. It was a fair fight. Jujubee had it all but didn't win a single challenge in Season 2 and her runway looks didn't measure up to Tyra's or Ravens.
The format really changed in Season 7 when Violet was crowned over Ginger. Violet had not much discernible talent but she was so fucking good at what she was great at and she improved in other areas. Bianca was the last winner who ticked all the boxes in regular season. Bob for sure did NOT. Jinkx, just barely. Sasha not at all and the less said about Trixie the better.
Alaska became the ultimate Drag Race winner by All Stars Two. She has all the talents and a few extra. She's not my favorite though, and that's kind of the point. There's no clear winner this season but Eureka. That didn't help Shea Coulee or Shangela.
by Anonymous | reply 413 | May 21, 2018 7:55 PM |
r413 it's been awhile since I saw that season (they removed it from Netflix not long ago, for some reason) so I'll take your word for it. I just thought Tyra's personality was nonexistent. She looked like a woman, but not really a DRAG QUEEN.
Ginger Minj is essentially a more consistent Eureka I think. Violet just looked so amazing and the whole Burlesque angle was unique (although I did NOT get her outfit with the roaches in the next season's finale). I think that's what put her over the top. That was one of the seasons where Ru kept mentioning "the future of drag", same with Sasha, IIRC.
Trixie seemed good to me but TBH I have thought Shangela was annoying as fuck since she first showed up and I didn't give a shit about whatever "growing up as a drag queen" arc they were trying for, I wanted her to lose because of the over-reliance on catchphrases "Hallelloo!" and the whole corn thing whatever that was about. Just too goddamn perky and confident, I think. She had the confidence from day one, even though she wasn't there yet, and she kept it, which is what was annoying - like, you didn't earn it yet in your first season!
I don't buy the whole "Ru was mad about the twist in last season when Trixie got chosen as winner". I think Ru wanted that to happen.
Bob also had a pretty big ego but I think his humor was more disarming. I think Bob's comedy/personality - especially his improv - was really, really strong and that's what put him over the top. His looks were okay but you're right about the rest. He had a way of selling his looks that made the average seem more.
I agree about Alaska. It's kind of an odd fate twist how her star has risen while her ex Sharon Needles has diminished.
I just thought Tyra's personality was nonexistent.
Yep, the key example being her completely personality-free Beyoncé in the first Snatch Game. As Juju famously observed, she had no Charisma.

r393 Trixe won challenges - just not the LSFYL which one can argue was strategic. She never had to eliminate anyone and Shangela saved her to return the favor. If Shangela had eliminated Trixie ..well it probably would have turned out different.
by Anonymous | reply 419 | May 22, 2018 12:11 AM |
R419 Shangela did not see her competition because, who would, Trixxie is fucking awful and on;ly won because of the returned cunt queens
by Anonymous | reply 420 | May 22, 2018 12:39 AM |
Trixie won cause the same people running the show run her show w Katya. If that wasn’t the case, Shangela would’ve won (if DeLa still dropped). If Shangela has eliminated Trixie then she would’ve been the returning queen. I also think Ru didn’t like what happened but went along with it because the move to VH1 got her more money but less control.

by Anonymous | reply 422 | May 22, 2018 5:10 AM |
Like it for not, Trixie is the most successful and popular queen out of Allstars 3, even before the Vice show...just as Alaska was clearly the most talented and popular queen going into Allstars 2. Allstars 1 seemed like it was made just as an excuse to crown Chad, someone Ru and lots of other queens respected/admired.
This is perhaps the only reality show were I can totally understand why all the winners were chosen, even if I don't agree with them....and that's rare (Nina should've won season 1 and Shea season 9). A really strong and diverse group of winners.

Paper's review of the last episode:
Tee hee:
"Asia O'Hara
I want to like Asia, I really do, but she makes it so hard. Her brand of southern pageant drag is one that increasingly doesn't read on Drag Race, as the queens (and the fans) get younger and more meme-able. Looking back on the season, the only highlight I can think of for Monet was her Tweety Bird look, and even her win last night felt undeserved. But as with Monet, if Ru decides to go with a Top 4 Asia likely has a 50/50 shot of making it in."

I still have to think really hard to separate Monet and Monique in my head. I have the same problem with Adore Delano and Laila McQueen, Derrick Barry and Courtney Act, and other queens in the past whom I've forgotten already. Some of us just aren't that good with faces.

BTW here's The Vixen's take on getting booted off the show:
"On Untucked last night you said, "If you're not here to win you should at least be here to grow." How did you grow during your time on Drag Race?
I had a rude awakening. I had created a bubble in Chicago where race and segregation and casual racism was less frequent because it had been addressed so often around me, and being in a competition where the playing field was not the same as I'm used to was a wake up call that I hadn't solved the world's problems and there was still work to be done. It lit a fire under my ass to be more head on and a little bit smarter about my approach. It made me that much stronger and that much wiser…but I'm still a fighter."

r436 What a completely and utterly un-self-aware little turd he is. I would expect to hear that from a queen in the first couple of seasons of this show, but today? by Anonymous | reply 441 | May 22, 2018 5:44 PM |
I bet you forget to take your pills too. Your casually racist comments reveal you to be a certain age. Drag Race is not concerned with the over 70 crowd. Bob is nothing special, the most overrated winner of any season. Try to remember the final three of season 8 and you'll remember that Bob had zero competition. Did he even bother to get in drag for the Runway? Not really. Stop comparing superior queens to him because of the color of their skin.
Compare Bob to Bianca, Jinkx or Sharon and you'll realize he stinks. Bob doesn't drink but is always the one on tour who likes to hit the gay bars in towns where they perform because he gets off on the crown recognizing him and making a big deal of who he is. He grew up black. Now he coons for white folk.
The VIxen has a lot to learn but she is a much better drag queen than Bob if you must compare. Monique and Monet are already more desirable companions. Kennedy Davenport will make you forget your own name. But you obviously sit and judge contestants from behind your computer, not in real world experience of them.
Yes you are racist. That's my twitter handle boo.
by Anonymous | reply 442 | May 22, 2018 7:08 PM |
It's funny how you casually throw around ageist and discriminatory remarks while accusing others of racism, r442. And then you compare all the black drag queens to each other and pit them against each other. The Vixen is a walking toilet bowl regardless of who she's compared to, because of her ignorant statements like in r436. And you also use racist terms like "coons" like that's a good thing, accusing Bob of wanting to be white, or something, I'm not sure what. You just seem really unpleasant and exhausting.
I just rewatched season 8. Bob definitely had competition in Kim Chi. Her looks were amazing. I never got the appeal of Naomi Smalls myself - she relied way too much on her body. But Bob had such a strong humor and presence and that's what put him over the top. The Vixen? Her looks aren't that great compared to the other queens and you can see the seams. She wasn't funny. She was OTT mean and started fights and drama and then bulldozed others if they stood up to her. She was immature, eye rolling and making faces whenever Eureka said anything.
She now is blaming it all on racism and taking credit for whatever she thinks she did in Chicago like it's the 1950s and not 2018 and she's fucking Rosa Parks. She takes way too much credit for shit she didn't do, in other words, and yet has no problem using it as a reason when things don't go her way. She's manipulative as well - you could see the wheels turning in the Untucked episode where she fake cries after people tell her they thought she should go home. They based their decisions on professional reasons, she based hers on emotional reasons, and got mad because she thought everyone else was doing the same thing.
So you have someone who assumes others think the same way they do, and changes her actions accordingly, and then gets angry at them for reacting to her because of that. She sees the world in one way, her way, and projects her own problems and mindgames on others. No one, to her, is truly genuine as a result. Everyone is just acting for the cameras. That's why she's angry all the time. She truly thinks others are thinking about her the same way she's thinking about them. That's what's so sad about it. And I pity anyone who enters her sphere of influence because I would not want to deal with that mess in real life.

Except for a few missteps, Eureka is living up to her comeback-kid narrative. Cracker cracked, Aquaria's rising, Monet is SpongeBob, Kameron's strong, and Asia's had her moment in the sun.

r447 that'd be a surprise to me considering many of the queens have all talked about having money to buy outfits. And Aquaria's looks just seem too polished. We haven't really had a good design challenge this season so it's hard to tell what is what. But I didn't know about the Fashion Institute so that's something I guess.

But Eureka did suck at Breastworld and her runway was really bad compared to the other queens. And she murdered that LSFYL. It all seems to make sense that she’d be bottom 2 and Shantay Stay.
I don’t think that there’s too much production manipulation, at least not when it comes to performance or runway. The manipulation would be in the final Ru decisions.

Everyone on drag race is a winner - their booking fees go up, they get put on "battle of the seasons" or "haters roast" tours. Just the exposure (I mean unless your Akasha or Sasha Belle) gets you coin. The winner is really a storyline that sort of reveals itself during the taping and is decided by RU. Even after the finale - the final two did not know who won. They tape an ending with either one winning. But if you go around saying you won before the big reveal - guess what that other ending will be shown.
by Anonymous | reply 454 | May 23, 2018 12:35 AM |
R451 but she didn't suck at Breastworld. If you look at the video of it, she did fine - they just focused on her problem areas during the practice and showed the negative judges feedback. Her performance wasn't standout but it wasn't bottom two worthy. Don't listen to just what they showed the judges saying. They don't show all the feedback. They can cut those episodes so that only positive feedback is shown, too.

Eureka is damaged and sucks the life out of a room. And to think it's between her and the so-mediocre/so-full-of-herself Asia.
Ugh.
Alas, no Kameron, and almost certainly no Aquaria. Because Aquaria winning would echo Sasha coming from behind, and with the other two black queens losing Ru and Co. wouldn't risk the racist backlash. Kameron will have only one win and unless he would do a lip synch for the gods he doesn't stand a chance.
The only alternative would be a fat queen, because none of them has ever won.
So, a pissy black queen with dubious taste or an obnoxious fat white one who has been getting terrible reviews despite popularity. Her behavior at DragCon was disgusting - lazy, stayed away from her (expensive) booth, long lunches, many breaks, avoiding other queens, acting like a diva. Ugh. So let it be Asia.

Loving how the show continues to deliver on who gets to be made over every season. From old queens, to straight jocks, to DILFs (or in Sharon Needles' case, DILK), to gay military vets, to grooms-to-be, to the straight crewmen.....
At least a couple of the social media 'stars' have been roasted by Willam in her beatdowns, which is amusing.
Eureka delivering on that mini-challenge with some John Goodman realness. If her winning the crown pisses off Reddit, then I'm 100% for it.

Frankie in drag looked like CuCu but also Bianca Del Rio. Loved Monet’s shady reaction to Frankie’s runway walk: “Fives, fives, fives! Fives across the board!”

Monet was not all that in the lip synch. And you could tell Ru was not happy with her exiting the stage. It was odd. But yes, Aquaria should have been in the bottom.
by Anonymous | reply 483 | May 25, 2018 6:14 AM |
What the fuck was Ru on in the workroom? Seriously the old man was coked out of his mind. He was acting a fool. It was a bit uncomfortable. I've never seen his so whacked out before.
I don't think Eureka won the trade mini challenge. Kameron or Aquaria were more fun a less disgusting looking. I thought they were both gay boy sexy but I guess trade implies straight man catch. Ugh to Eureka though. Kameron is the weirdest contestant they've ever had on the show. I don't like him.
by Anonymous | reply 484 | May 25, 2018 11:11 AM |
Eureka was a clear winner of that Trade challenge - the rest of the girls could NOT do butch if their lives depended on it. It wasn't about who looked "disgusting" or not, it was about who could pull off butch and make it funny, and Eureka did the best. The rest of the girls mostly looked ridiculous. I hate to say it but Asia was probably the second just because she looked the most like a man.
Eureka and Frankie looked great but I feel like we've seen that look before on Eureka. Not enough to send Eureka home though. Agree Frankie looked like Miss Cucu.
Kameron looked GREAT in his outfit on the runway - he always looks so sad and pretty - and he's so good at lip sync. Monet started out strong and I was worried for Kameron for a hot second, but then Kameron just kept giving more and more and Monet did that weird stage exit and then the light bulb slide which looked sloppy as hell and like "my first time drag". I feel they should have given the light bulb breaking at least 30 seconds of airtime, with a full soundtrack of it exploding and glass flying everywhere in slow motion, because that would have been hilarious and ridiculously dramatic. But really, DON'T LEAVE THE STAGE DURING A LIP SYNC! Even if it's just for a second or two. I know a real life person like him - great body and above average looks, but has the self-esteem of a turnip. Still a very sweet country boy.
Monet looked bad in her outfit - a bodysuit, again? Like it took her five minutes to get ready.
Tyler Oakley is so cute and must be a fun sexy bottom but at the same time I was secretly pleased he was on the losing team, just because he's such a social media STAR he deserves a failure once in awhile :)
Miz Cracker lucked out with the straight guy - he was handsome and turned into quite a good drag queen. Beyond that I don't think it was anything special, her makeover just looked so good in drag that she won because of that. Miz Cracker's drag wasn't anything special, aside from the head flower halo thing.
Miles Heizer was HOT and I love the quiet deep-thought nerd vibe. Love his blond hair and sweet face. As a judge, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ but he was pretty to look at and I liked watching him speak.
Whoever the social media guy was that was all "I'm activist LGBTQ+" was so obnoxious I was hoping he would lose just because I hated him instantly whenever he started talking. I think he was paired with Asia? And I'm sorry but I didn't like the coat, it looks like her last runway look, all top-heavy FASHUN and not much else.
The guy with Aquaria looks like football-head Stewie from Family Guy in that someone stepped on his head when he was a baby, or something. He looked weird in general. Aquaria made sure SHE was the star, but the looks didn't really match and frankly the black-white thing wasn't very good either for a "sister". I did love the sparkle lips but aside from that I think she should have been in the bottom instead of Kameron (Monet XChange definitely was the worst though).
I thought it was funny that Aquaria opened with a "oh I'm sorry for giving the impression that I'm a calculating cold bitch" apology tour. I get the feeling she has a minute to think about how she may have appeared (probably after the other queens tell her) and then she tries to correct the impression of her on the next episode - this is the second time at least she's done it? Seems fake!

NYTimes' reviewer breakdown of the episode. I didn't agree with her on all of her choices and I didn't really like the whole "Family dinner" thing she was going for. And there was this paragraph, which was eye-rolling (why does she have to remind us she's female in every review)?
"(Full disclosure: Absolutely nothing is funnier to me than the satirization of aggressive, performative heteromasculinity, so this segment nearly led me to choke on a hard-boiled ovary. Like last week’s “Pants Down, Bottoms Up,” this should be its own show.)"

by Anonymous | reply 489 | May 25, 2018 1:38 PM |
I watched Untucked and was surprised at Miz Cracker and Monet XChange trashing Eureka's drag. I thought it looked good but I didn't really like it because I think Eureka's done that same look before and thought she should have done something new. Cracker trashed Eureka's drag, Frankie's padding (which looked fine to me) and makeup. She basically didn't like ANYTHING Eureka did this episode.
by Anonymous | reply 490 | May 25, 2018 1:40 PM |
Ov course Ru was extra! Followers of the social media guys are probably going to watch the show for the first time, and Ru probably thought "I've got to amp it up" to get people hooked.

RuPaul is a lifelong entertainer whose whole career is based on color and cultural commentary and critique. He has a quick wit and understands pop culture deeply, including the cultural currency of developing catch phrases and inventive references to past pop culture icons. He discusses all this constantly on his podcast. He has a real joy of life, which he attributes both to his nature and to his decades of LSD and marijuana use, which he says he had enough of years ago, and he is also consciously ever-building a business empire. He has applied a business model consistently throughout his career of making the unconventional familiar, and in recent years he has gotten far enough to make the unconventional conventional. He has gone mainstream, but he hasn’t changed. Listen to the podcast or go back and watch any old footage of him; he’s simultaneously dead serious about his business prowess and carefree about life in the big picture. He doesn’t think acting like a fool is a shameful thing to do, but he doesn’t tolerate fools and won’t be mistaken for one. Joy Behar years ago was condescending to him, not understanding that he’s not some dumb drugged up clown in women’s clothes, and he retaliated without blinking. I didn’t really get it for a long time, but now that I have been listening to his podcast and watching this show for years, he seems well definef and consistent. He’s basically created his own unique world that looks over the top and ridiculous and which in his mind illustrates his psychedelic philosophy that everything we accept as real is subjective and changeable, and he understands that many people reject that but he nevertheless demands to be respected. So he can come across as simultaneously silly and short-tempered and self-serious—but I think that is all attributable to the world he has built and not to being high on cocaine. He was also visibly sick for a couple of episodes, with dialogue overdubbed in some scenes probably because he lost his voice, and so he has seemed lower and higher energy than before by the stark contrast from episode to episode.

R493 if you compare this season to last season though she was the same - it's not really until recently that Ru has re-entered the workroom and tried to be more present. Frankly I'm over the "Hallmark after school special" style of conversations she's had this season where she's acting more like a therapist and the girls have to nod and pretend they're listening to Buddha, but I have enjoyed her when she's just having fun and enjoying the queens.
I've never done an acid trip but I am kind of envious of those who have as I think it changes your perspective slightly - you're kind of out of sync with the rest of the world which can be a good thing.
by Anonymous | reply 494 | May 25, 2018 1:56 PM |
^ I don't mean Ru was the same in every episode - she was obviously sick at the start of the season. But overall.
That being said, was anyone else distracted by the big heavy bold line around her lips this episode? It looked sloppy. Was Raven out?
by Anonymous | reply 495 | May 25, 2018 2:03 PM |
R494 / R495 I can understand if the “Mama Ru” thing isn’t your cuppa, but in my case I approached this show with hesitation and significant bias. I didn’t get and was turned off by “gay boys in women’s clothes” for reasons that were latent and which I can’t justify other than admitting prejudice—and the first thing that hooked me when I started watching (season three) was the advice RuPaul doled out, and the often-moving stories of the cast. That and the creativity and the pace sucked me in immediately. I personally dislike the squabbling and name calling a lot, and so I didn’t watch Untucked because the “drama” is not a reason I watch the show. I almost stopped watching altogether when the Britney Spears impersonator was on because it was just so fucking dramatic. I love the scenes between RuPaul and the cast, and I can’t be the only one. And even as a gay man I brought bigotry against drag queens to this series and the series demystified it and made me actually love the artform and in fact it made me understand performance art overall in a way I never did. I think the sincere human stuff is essential to the show successfully doing one thing that it can do, which is to introduce the VH1 audience to people who may appear very different than they are but show that they are ultimately just looking for respect as they make their ways through life. Anyone could fairly argue that a show about drag queens can’t accomplish such lofty things, but it did that for me and I imagine it does for others.
by Anonymous | reply 496 | May 25, 2018 2:14 PM |
I've been watching it for longer than you apparently, and I find the therapeutic stuff schmaltzy made for TV moments, but I can see how some types of newer viewers would like that. But I've never had a problem with drag queens other than in person they can be scary mainly because I don't want them to notice me and be mean to me :-)
by Anonymous | reply 497 | May 25, 2018 2:26 PM |
I'm always apprehensive about straight men as well, so I totally get where Kameron was coming from. It's like I have nothing in common with them, even though that's just a limiting belief and I've probably talked to plenty of them here on DL without a problem.
What the fuck was with Miles Heizer's facial expression? His remarks were measured and productive, but his face was stuck in neutral almost the entire time. Looked like a precious unborn fawn in closeup. His nasal bridge is delightful in profile and he should consider showing it off more.
Was Monet the biggest disappointment of this season? I think so.

Anyone else cringe whenever Ru does the Vanjie joke and the guest judges don't know how to react? They must have felt horrible at that moment, thinking they'll have to endure these inside jokes for the duration of the filming.

Watching Roscoe's viewing party and Aquaria's unpadded bare chest with nipple tassels is really not that great of a look that she obviously thinks it is. I also wish queens would stop stroking their wigs non-stop. Just set it and forget it, for god's sake.
Everyone hated how boring Heizer was and thought he was one of the worst guest judges ever. I'm even more intrigued about him because of this episode, so mission accomplished, I guess? I'm pretty sure I saw a thread about him on DL once; might look up what the consensus on him was.

I see comments on YouTube and social media that lots of people are pissed Monet is out and Eureka is still there. Monet was coasting, a side from a great snatch game, and her looks at times weren't great, while overall Eureka has rocked the competition. Personality can only get you so far.
by Anonymous | reply 514 | May 25, 2018 10:35 PM |
Miz Cracker definitely deserved her win. Her guy transformed totally- you would never guess in a million years that he was a straight guy doing drag and wearing heels for the first time, and that is what RuPaul was advocating with his little pep talks.
Eureka took the easy route with Frankie- he's halfway there to drag already, and I've seen him perform in platform heels- he kippers around like a Keebler Elf on speed and glitter.

Ru's pep talks were more than advocating. He was clearly intoxicated and camping it up in a way that was embarrassing for sure a weird looking old man. That is not his usual gig. He was an entertaining mess this episode. Everyone noticed if but he view here who want to argue that he wasn't. I am well aware of who RuPaul is. He got sober for a reason...

R528 Aquarius is a constellation/zodiac sign. So is Capricorn. Aquaria’s sister is Capriciacorn, a play on the word capricious (the dictionary will help you with that!) and capricorn. Does that help?

Does anyone else thing the Vanjie thing is all production manipulation? It was funny when she did it as she was leaving the stage, but to have Ru, Michelle and the other queens bring it up somehow in every episode seems suspish. Some friends and I think they decided to make it a running thing and planned the social media assault after episode 1 aired. Too tinfoily?

r511 I disagree. His before picture makes him look like a boring normie, like me. He's just an introvert, which doesn't really go well with being a drag queen. And an American one at that, where everyone is extra loud constantly. But there's nothing "damaged" about that.
by Anonymous | reply 525 | May 26, 2018 1:52 AM |
R522, it took you that long to figure it out? That's why Ru was pushing the "Vanjie" meme so aggressively after episode 1. Since it was such a running joke throughout the season, she was pretty much obligated to do so. It also makes it that much funnier how some thought it was an organic phenomenon. Ru and VH1 know what they're doing.

I think the complaints about Eureka's look for this are unfair. It is pretty much her signature look so to do a makeover with Cucu 2. You almost have to do the loaf, and Eureka made the outfits. I thought they were great. I mean you can glue streamers to a vest and call it a coat but that was two dresses one in size small and one in Grande! size (see what I did there.) Eureka as BJ was fucking hilarious. I can't wait for the puppets challenge.

Word, R517. That shit was embarrassing. I hope it was a one-time thing and Ru returned to sobriety pronto. When a long-sober person, especially someone Ru's age, falls off the wagon things can deteriorate fast if they don't get a grip on the problem right away.

r507, what an odd comment, they are 'partners' in a challenge on a reality show. You're acting like Monet announced to the world that Kameron and his real-life partner have no chemistry.
by Anonymous | reply 531 | May 26, 2018 5:11 AM |
Love Monet and Monique. Make some money ladies and elevate that drag. Michelle was so fucking mean to Monet though. There was far more family resemblance between Monet and Tyler than there was between Aquaria and Kinsley. I call more fuckery. They knew Monet would go on her third lip synch and wouldn't chance putting Aquaria in the bottom where she belonged. Because Aquaria can't win a lip sync against any of them and they want her for final three. Anyway Monet needs to get her drag together. If Bob can do it, she can do it better. What a sweet funny lovable queen. Make some money Monique and Monet. People won't forget either of you.

R534 that's nothing you can get buzzed by in any manner. Ru was clearly on The Sauce and I assume will check into an expensive rehab clinic as soon as this season is over. And replace Michelle Visage because she is her supplier (Michelle's breasts have small pockets sewn into them for narcotics transport).

R532, is that true though that Aquaria can’t lip synch? I thought girls like Bianca, Violet, and Sasha were kept from lip syncing too. Like they’d get eliminated by another girl. Yet in Sasha’s case, she won me over lip syncing at the finale. I wonder if Aquaria would be good. Prob not.
by Anonymous | reply 538 | May 26, 2018 3:02 PM |
I loved Monet but she didn't listen. How many times did Ru and Michelle tell her to stop wearing the pussycat wigs? The fastest way off the show is to not fucking listen when you are told several times. "You should wear a big old wig, we want to see you in a big old wig...HEY WEAR A FUCKING BIG OLD WIG." Monet relied on her humor more than her drag. She was just a chubby guy in a body suit wearing eyeshadow and lipstick..every fucking look.
by Anonymous | reply 539 | May 26, 2018 3:57 PM |
r539 she's been the "lesser Bob" - her humor was good but not Bob-level which made his shitty looks seem much better than they really were.
by Anonymous | reply 540 | May 26, 2018 4:15 PM |
Monet may not be Bob, but Monet on this show WAS Bob. He had zero chance of winning. They would never give it to someone who comes across as an impersonator of a former winner.
by Anonymous | reply 541 | May 26, 2018 4:15 PM |
r539 the thing that was funny is that even when she wore a big ol' wig she still looked trashy - the outfit wasn't that great, just a bodysuit, which other queens get dinged for. But for her it was a step up so they complimented her.
by Anonymous | reply 542 | May 26, 2018 4:22 PM |
r543 that's from the finale, like r538 said. She was actually really good. But there were decisions made along the way where she should probably have lipsynced for her life, but didn't, because it seemed as if the producers wanted her in the final four.
by Anonymous | reply 544 | May 26, 2018 5:50 PM |

I don't quite get the logic of that article. Todrick displays a white gaze because he's objectifying black men as "thugs"? Hmmm. So hip hop culture is exempt from such criticism because it's overwhelmingly heterosexual?
And Todrick himself reflects none of the reductive thug image. So couldn't one argue that he counterbalances some of what he's describing in the Thug song?

When it comes to Todrick and those blasting him for his alleged white washed ways, it might help if they consider Todrick's focus. Todrick is fore most a Broadway baby. He started in New York on the stage. Any Black person that wants to start that way is going to have hang with a lot of White people. You have to have a mind for diversity because Broadway doesn't have a lot of space for Black people. So I don't fault Todrick for his white washed view. I understand how that happens. He doesn't seem to be ashamed to be Black, on the contrary, he seems comfortable with who he is AND he is out and proud to be gay.
Some of his videos have included some problematic stuff and he has acknowledged it and become more aware.
Any Black gay man that chooses to publicly hate on Todrick needs to examine their real problem. Self hatred. Black people are experts at hating on each other. The crab barrel mentality is a real thing in the Black community. At this point in time no Black person that loves their community should be openly hating on another member of the community. I could also say the same thing about the gay community. Why are so many of you happy to see Todrick get torn down? What did he do to you? You don't like Todrick? Just ignore him. Todrick is not our biggest problem.
He is more talented than most of the people working in Hollywood. I would love it if he gets the opportunity to direct one of the television musicals that the networks are all looking to broadcast. He blends a modern view with old school sensibility and the result is better than most of what you see today from Hollywood insiders. He's got all the goods. I want to see him producing and directing on Broadway. I want real talent back in entertainment and Todrick is real talent.

“Any Black gay man that chooses to publicly hate on Todrick needs to examine their real problem. Self hatred.”
R566 I understand what you’re saying, but the way you said it is a bit grandiose. Anytime anyone says “Any _________ person who criticizes _________ needs to examine their real problem: __________,” the argument is a flawed argument. There’s a lot more nuance in that world than this. Some people do criticize others because they are self-hating. Some are self-obsessed and were just cultured to lash out at others without any empathy. Some are drunk or on crack or in a psychotic state and don’t know what they are saying. There are too many variables to be render a verdict so absolute.

R566 What has Todrick done?
by Anonymous | reply 568 | May 30, 2018 12:35 AM |
I'd bet money the writer of that article can be found in the club getting his life to Adina Howard singing about "ruffneck [...] that can satisfy me".
by Anonymous | reply 569 | May 30, 2018 12:51 AM |
Do we need a separate thread to discuss Todrick?
by Anonymous | reply 570 | May 30, 2018 1:24 AM |
Okay r567 then tell me why that journalist lashing out at Todrick makes any sense when you consider the climate now existing for Blacks and gays at this point in time? If he has a problem with Todrick he probably has the ability to contact him or his people and speak to him directly. Attacking him in public means he doesn't give a fuck about doing damage to this man who is just trying to do his thing. And If he doesn't care about Todrick, who works very hard and puts all of his time and energy into making positive entertainment, (with a few fuck ups) then why doesn't he care when Black men and gays are still very much at risk for violence and hatred in today's climate.
You may not like Todrick, the writer obviously doesn't like like him but what would motivate him to tear him down? You don't think self hatred has anything to do with it? I do. I'm an old Black man. I know it when I see it, I've had to live through enough of it.

It's funny how "Thug" was probably Todrick's attempt at being "mainstream" black, i.e. not a Broadway/MGM queen, for a change.
I suspect his association with Taylor Swift has some people really gunning for him. It's sort of ironic that the author capes for Kanye West while trying to bury Todrick. Both black male artists. Which one is more problematic? The gay one? El oh el.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | May 30, 2018 2:05 AM |
I just hope Todrick paid the people who worked on that video. Isn’t the stench of the scandal of that the reason he was booted off American Idol?
by Anonymous | reply 574 | May 30, 2018 3:15 AM |
Not sure how Toderick got dragged (see what I did there) into this but, there is no question the man is talented. He wrote the whole Wizard of Oz musical he took on the road in a weekend. All of the songs. He has a net worth in the millions thanks to his videos, followers and his ability to be creative without needing a record company.
by Anonymous | reply 575 | May 30, 2018 9:31 PM |
We know why Toddrick is not respected. Do some research. Just because he's black don't make him ours. I guess you all think that thug is actually a thing in the gay community? Keep your prison fantasies to yourself white boys.
by Anonymous | reply 576 | May 31, 2018 7:46 AM |
R571 because the writer is producing "content" for an online magazine and trying to go for an angle to make the story viral/start a "discussion" (read: Twitter flame war). His word salad reads like it's written by a second year English major who has "activist" as part of his resume regardless of what he's doing (e.g. "activist and Starbucks barista").
I personally dislike Todrick because he's a bad coach who seems more interested in making "witty" comments than actually helping the queens, and I also don't think much of his choreography choices which are pretty stock and don't include the personality of the performer in them. And most of the musicals he's made have been bad in comparison to Lucien Piane's. He seems full of himself when he speaks and acts like someone who thinks he is a lot cuter and wittier than he is.
by Anonymous | reply 577 | May 31, 2018 1:12 PM |
I like Todrick's own work and I do think he's talented, but I also think that he's terrible on drag race, both as a choreographer and a judge.
by Anonymous | reply 578 | May 31, 2018 1:27 PM |
I dislike Toddrick because he thinks he's some kind of a brilliant artist. As if he brought anything original to the world. He reminds me of my 14 year old niece, drama and attitude...

I would fuck Toddrick but would prefer one of his BBC thugs of course.

The Vixen and Monique Heart are top of the votes for Miss Congeniality! The Vixen wasn't too congenial but that hot bitch was important whether DL patrons get it or not. They don't go by votes so Ru will give it to Miss Vanjie for mileage. Monique deserves it though. Who the fuck thinks neurotic whiny Miz Cracker was congenial?
Fan Favorite, as we say now. Miz Cracker has the Trixie Mattel crowd which means she's homely out of drag an overrated in. A loser unless you put in the fix. Give the check to Monique dammit.

That list pretty much cements that Eureka will not win drag Race. Of the 4 rumored to be left - Aquaria has 2x as many votes as the others.

How the fuck is The Vixen winning? She was vile!
by Anonymous | reply 583 | June 2, 2018 3:20 AM |
I seriously doubt those numbers are true. I don't think the producers of the show publish the numbers.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | June 2, 2018 3:24 AM |
The list is rigged by bots. Russian bots watch drag race too
by Anonymous | reply 585 | June 2, 2018 4:01 AM |
Stop doing this to your mouths. Drag queens are supposed to color outside the lip lines. Adore, Sharon, Bianca, Fame, Alaska, Pearl and so many others look like this now. It's stupid on a man and a trout mouth on anyone else. Fame is a cute guy and honest about his insecurities but his bloated mouth is where my eyes go. They can't plump your lips to the corners without worse disfiguration so you end with this busted look? Miss Fame is a handsome dude and a great makeup artist. Why all this botox and filler? Bianca Del Roy looks particularly stupid with his FAT swollen mouth on his old man face pitching his shitty movie.

Eureka will win. Ru loves an outsider's story.
The Vixen wasn't too congenial
If by "wasn't too" you mean "was not at all", then yes. And the Vixen winning Miss C would be an even bigger joke than Valentina winning it last year.
by Anonymous | reply 589 | June 2, 2018 6:35 AM |
Ru loves his Emmys and online popularity, being invited on Colbert and to the Met Gala, endless magazine cover attention and high class invites. Eureka won't win if she's not popular with fans on social media.
by Anonymous | reply 590 | June 2, 2018 6:39 AM |
The online voting is easily rigged by bots, people have been having fun fucking with the totals.

Laganga Estranga is trying out for "So You Think You Can Dance". Still annoying.

I wish Eureka would stop talking about sex. It’s disgusting and disturbing. Who wants to think about that fuck having sex? I bet he doesn’t wipe properly.

Aquaria, Miz Cracker and The Vixen performed together this weekend. That's not a loving group but the sisters say they had a great time. The Vixen noted she was surprised. Good for THAT bitch for continuing keeping it real. Katya is having some online psychosis and Jinkx is the only one who speaks honestly about gender issues. Honestly for herself is what I mean. La Ganga is a good enough dancer for So You Think You Can Dance? Hell no she's not. But good for some early round attention. Kennedy Davenport just tweeted that she broke her shoes performing in London and was on her way to Paris to replace them. Imagine that for her!! At this stage of her game. Drag Race is everywhere.
