Palm srpings in July?

Is it miserable? What if you are staying at a nice resort like the La Quinta where you can stay by the pool?

by Anonymousreply 30October 7, 2018 12:58 PM

The air is so hot it is hard to breathe, I was there when it was 105+. I can’t explain it other than it felt like an oven. I hid inside until the sun went down. I was there for work so it wasn’t like I could site at the pool during the day.

by Anonymousreply 1April 29, 2018 3:47 AM

It’s oppressively hot and dry. I could only stay at the pool for 30 minutes until I had to retreat to the AC. Skip it and visit in March or April.

Ypir has been known to stay at that La Quinta! Be sure to keep a eye out for her.

by Anonymousreply 3April 29, 2018 4:06 AM

You could not pay me to go there ever again in summer.

by Anonymousreply 4April 29, 2018 4:10 AM

You should do it, OP, if only to know what hot truly means.

You will need to remain submerged underwater during daylight hours, and wear a hat in the pool for godsakes. You won't last long, the sun will beat you on and beat on you til you die. But I think you should try it.

by Anonymousreply 5April 29, 2018 4:13 AM

I lived there for many years .In July you can use the pool in the day if you are shaded. July August it never gets below 100 and mostly 105 110 115. 90s in Apr May.high 90s in June Sep Oct .

by Anonymousreply 6April 29, 2018 4:26 AM

La Quinta is usually 5 to 10 degrees hotter than PS in the summer. 115 to often 120 for days on end. The problem in summer is that at night it never cools down. It can still be 105 here at midnight.

I guess, we get used to it.

by Anonymousreply 7April 29, 2018 4:33 AM

So OP, what do you think, do you think you'll try it?

by Anonymousreply 8April 29, 2018 4:46 AM

OP, what's your experience with intense summer heat, what's the highest temp you've endured so far, and where were you (because humidity matters, too.)

by Anonymousreply 9April 29, 2018 4:58 AM

The one time I was in Palm Springs in July it was 109 degrees. At 11-fucking-30 at night.

Don't even THINK about it. The opposite end of Palm Springs in July is Siberia in January. In comparison, Florida in July seems like Santa Barbara in springtime.

by Anonymousreply 10April 29, 2018 4:59 AM

Tourist: Fuck!!! It’s 120 degrees outside!!! Native: Yeah, but it’s a dry heat...

by Anonymousreply 11April 29, 2018 5:15 AM

"I hid inside until the sun went down. I was there for work so it wasn’t like I could site at the pool during the day."

You what now?

by Anonymousreply 12April 29, 2018 5:32 AM

"But it's a DRY heat."

by Anonymousreply 13April 29, 2018 5:47 PM

I was there for Fourth of July once. Hotter than hell. Getting into your car after it's been parked in the sun for a while is an experience. But they do have beautiful sunsets. And a lot of outdoor venues have misting devices. I can't imagine what it was like there before AC.

A friend pointed out that Palm Springs has a multitude of poisonous things, including copious quantities of black widows, oleander, scorpions and rattlesnakes. Palm Springs is also where the eldergays go—to visit their parents.

by Anonymousreply 15April 29, 2018 8:23 PM

It's where plums go to become prunes.

by Anonymousreply 16April 29, 2018 9:14 PM

I'd rather be in 120 dry heat than 85 degrees at 90% humidity.

by Anonymousreply 17April 29, 2018 11:22 PM

You are going to fry what is left of your brain.

by Anonymousreply 18April 29, 2018 11:24 PM

At least you can escape dry heat if you're in the shade. Humidity is inescapable.

by Anonymousreply 19April 29, 2018 11:26 PM

105 after sundown is quite nice. Especially if there is a breeze.

by Anonymousreply 20April 29, 2018 11:28 PM

OP here. Ok then well I think I will skip. But that la quinta is paradise. I've been in 1OO degree dry heat at a pool. It's doable, but this seems extreme.

by Anonymousreply 21April 30, 2018 3:02 AM

Just starting watching HGTV Desert Flippers. First show they ran into a Scorpion the size of a Buick and they had an infestation. Yes, I know it's the desert but are they a major problem?

by Anonymousreply 22October 7, 2018 11:29 AM

Farting is an issue too. P u

by Anonymousreply 23October 7, 2018 11:57 AM

I've only been in Januaries.

It was delightful.

by Anonymousreply 24October 7, 2018 11:58 AM

R11, R13, R17: "But it's a DRY heat."

So's my oven. Doesn't mean I'd want to live there.

by Anonymousreply 25October 7, 2018 12:04 PM

I was there one summer. Just the short walk from the air conditioned house to the air conditioned car knocked the life out of me. And keep in mind that I’m someone who goes on long runs in 90 degree heat.

by Anonymousreply 26October 7, 2018 12:11 PM

It doesn't matter if it's a dry heat...it's still unbearable even in the shade. The air is oppressive. It feels like an oven. No matter how "nice" it may be, La Quinta cannot control the stifling dry and humid temperatures, and yes, it does get humid.

by Anonymousreply 27October 7, 2018 12:17 PM

No one was ever meant to live in the desert. It's pure hell. That goes for Arizona too.

by Anonymousreply 28October 7, 2018 12:19 PM

I love Palm Springs but I wouldn't stay there for a million dollars anytime between June 1 and September 15.

by Anonymousreply 29October 7, 2018 12:26 PM

La Quinta is not Palm Springs. It is a good 30 minute drive from PS.
