I read a few reviews of people who saw this at awards watch and had problems with the structure of the film. He's going to need the help of the critics if Carrell's performance and the film overall are not good.

R21 here. I ended up ordering and reading -- or trying to read, rather-- the book the movie is based on. It got good reviews and sold well, but I didn't care for it. I love memoirs when the author is able to use his specificity to tell a larger story, but I feel like he did not. I found the book to be tedious and padded and not terribly interesting or illuminating. I got about halfway in, and stopped.

I truly, truly don't intend to sound as cynical as this might, but it seems really textbook for him to choose this role after CMBYN. "Oh, now I need to play some kind of really messed up, hardcore druggie or something to counteract the sensitivity of Elio", or some shit like that.

R25 , he signed on for Beautiful Boy many, many months before CMBYN was even released though. I think the movie *might* have been shown at Sundance but only just, so it's not like they knew how enormous Call Me would end up being, or that there would be any "mold" to break. He probably genuinely took it because it was an interesting and challenging role to take on - he seems like the type.

The first Sufjan Stevens song that interrupts the movie so we can concentrate on nature for a few minutes also indicates the hand of Chalamet’s Elio at work, as he remembers how beautiful it was and how nothing hurt, before he found out on that last trip that Hammer’s Oliver was going to start dancing in public to “Love My Way” again.

I need to watch the movie to judge but I'm divided between thinking it's too clean and it being great. I think the fact that Tim looks insanely beautiful for a drug addict might be deliberate, and I'm curious about that.

I'm R56 and 57. It is possible to be an addict and to still be good looking. My friend who is an addict is model handsome. At least he is now, but, if he doesn't stop, he will look like holy hell. I did not read the son's book, and didn't like the dad's book enough to finish it. I didn't care for his writing, and I felt like he was padding the book, and his specifics weren't interesting or illuminating. I am still interested enough in the story, though, to see the movie, which does, indeed, look real and well acted. And I love Amy Ryan, so there is that. I assume she plays his mom, and Tierney the step mom.

Carrel really stood out more for me in the trailer than Chalamet, but I have no doubt both performances will be well-received.

The acting looks strong. The promotion on Chalamet's part will be intriguing. He has a huge young fan base that will watch him on anything and demand he is given an Oscar for any role he gets, yet at the same time he has the chance to deeply influence those same young people with a movie such as this one. The campaign will have him answering several questions about drugs and addiction.

Basically it’s how they enhance and alter the colour of the footage and it kind of sets the “tone” or the overall look for the film. And people can say what they want about their expectations for Beautiful Boy and The King, but Little Women is basically guaranteed to be a huge critical success and awards contender, confirmed by an article yesterday saying they're aiming for a Fall 2019 release. So yes he will be appearing in CMBYN and Lady Bird quality films again soon, no matter what happens with BB. There are plenty of talented young actors doing interesting work right now but I think a big difference - and I hate to say this - is that Timothée's good looks are very unique. Lucas has a very forgettable give, Ansel has a nice body but not much else, Barry is not exactly good looking. Timothée as an interesting borderline androgynous look to him that's not that common for an Oscar nominated young actor.

There' something about him that goes beyond talent, good looks, intelligence and all that. His uniqueness is what makes him so appealing to a lot of people. He's got something that can't be explained so no point in trying. On top of that he seems genuine, maybe he's the biggest fake of all but for now he really does seem an honestly good, humble guy. Then there's also the fact that he's not afraid to be himself even if it doesn't look 'cool', like to take his sister to award shows or to hold hands with his mom on the red carpet at the Oscars or to cuddle his grandma. TKOSD wouldn't have got any more attention without CMBYN. It's not an awards friendly film. Daniel Kaluuya managed fine with Timmy around too, even beating him for some awards like BAFTA Rising Star and National Society of Film Critics.

Even in an underdeveloped role in a somewhat messy film like Hot Summer Nights, he manages to elevate it and stand out. 22 year old guys don't get Oscar noms because of right place right time and his performance in CMBYN is one for the ages.

Basically he just wasn't treated with much respect as a (at the time) unknown actor, especially in comparison to Carell. If you watch the 'timothee chalamet talking about beautiful boy' video on YouTube you can see that he talks about doing a scene in the rain for a long time, trips to the doctor and Felix making them do a million takes and it seems that in reality he was a lot more pissed off about the way he was treated than it comes across in those interviews.

This is what she said So, basically, it was a disaster the whole run. It shot in 4 weeks or so. Very quick turnaround. There's a scene in the movie where Timmy is in the rain, and it's maybe in the movie for 10 seconds (I hear) and they did that scene for a day and a half. Something like 18 hours. It just went on and on until Timmy had had it. There was a lot of miscommunication from the diretor and his translator. Timmy felt like nobody took anything he had to say seirously. Everybody was up Carrell's ass the whole time and everything felt very favoritism in a way that's unnerving for other actors. I wouldn't call it a "major studio" film. It was made for maybe 10 million. Who knows how it'll turn out, but from what I hear, Timmy really is a star and Steve is HORRIBLE. I wonder how Timmy will be during the press for this but it really fucked with him and caused him to turn down a few projects. I can't say anymore.

Luca wouldn't be the only reason he was able to perform so well when there are plenty of average performances in Luca's films. CMBYN is still easily his most acclaimed film, other than Lady Bird in which he wasn't given anywhere near as meaty a part. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be able to deliver a performance of a similar standard when given a combination of a great part, script and director in the future.

His character's name is in the title, it's written and directed by his dad and they will want to avoid the comparisons with Chalamet in another substance abuse role by having him in a different category. Even if Hedges is better in a better film, Chalamet has more people on his side and his support wouldn't just disappear.
