Picnic at Hanging Rock

This is one of those times where it's probably wise not to try and better the original version.

This new version is directed by a Woman-Supremacist who believes in the mantra 'The Future is Female'.

She says the dirty past must be revised and corrected.

I have a bad feeling that the future will entail turning classic films into bloated TV series :(

Looks like rubbish. I'd rather watch the original classic over and over again than watch this unnecessary revisionism.

I love remakes. Movies are about stories...often which are based on books, like this one was.

The 2018 version is not in competition with the 1975 one, which will always be around.

I wonder why Anne-Louise Lambert, who played the Miranda in the original, didn't go on to other significant roles. Her image is so associated with that film...certainly she got attention (?)

What a fucking terrible idea to remake this film. If Sofia Coppola had chosen to do this instead of The Beguiled, maybe I would see it, but this? WHY? The original is perfection, and I do not think an explanation for what happened is a good idea. The novel makes the supernatural possible, as does the original.

I thought I recalled there being supernatural elements to the novel. Indeed, they published the final chapter as "The Secret of Hanging Rock", which has an ending that is not "smashed by rocks".

It’s subtle. All the clues point to a rock falling on them.

I was always grossed out by how a doctor took the opportunity to stick his hand up the vadge of the one girl that came back because...that would surely explain things.

He was checking that her hymen was intact. The school would have been in huge trouble if she was no longer a virgin while under their care.

They were not smashed by rocks FFS. The explanation was in the final excised chapter.

It's just a made up story about girls getting lost on a picnic. Exciting stuff.

The original was so damn good.

I went to Hanging Rock (ie Mount Macedon north of Melbourne at the bottom of Australia).

I was rather underwhelmed.
