Coming to Amazon Prime May 25th.
This is one of those times where it's probably wise not to try and better the original version.

This new version is directed by a Woman-Supremacist who believes in the mantra 'The Future is Female'.
She says the dirty past must be revised and corrected.

I have a bad feeling that the future will entail turning classic films into bloated TV series :(
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 20, 2018 7:40 AM |
Looks like rubbish. I'd rather watch the original classic over and over again than watch this unnecessary revisionism.

I love remakes. Movies are about stories...often which are based on books, like this one was.
The 2018 version is not in competition with the 1975 one, which will always be around.

I vaguely remember the original.
Spoilers (???)

This is a horror movie, right? something about all the girls dying in a rock. Where they killed or they died of heath stroke ?

Spoilers......
They were killed by a small rockslide.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 20, 2018 8:02 AM |
Ooohhh thank you R8.
Well that's kind of random when you think about it. What a random plot twist.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 20, 2018 8:06 AM |
I wonder why Anne-Louise Lambert, who played the Miranda in the original, didn't go on to other significant roles. Her image is so associated with that film...certainly she got attention (?)

[quote]R8 They were killed by a small rockslide.
POSSIBLE SPOILER:
Wait, I thought they were killed by a "small roadkill" ?

[quote]R6 they died of heath stroke?
I think that was WUTHERING HEIGHTS
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 20, 2018 8:09 AM |
What a fucking terrible idea to remake this film. If Sofia Coppola had chosen to do this instead of The Beguiled, maybe I would see it, but this? WHY? The original is perfection, and I do not think an explanation for what happened is a good idea. The novel makes the supernatural possible, as does the original.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 20, 2018 8:19 AM |
I thought I recalled there being supernatural elements to the novel. Indeed, they published the final chapter as "The Secret of Hanging Rock", which has an ending that is not "smashed by rocks".
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 20, 2018 8:23 AM |
It’s subtle. All the clues point to a rock falling on them.
I was always grossed out by how a doctor took the opportunity to stick his hand up the vadge of the one girl that came back because...that would surely explain things.

He was checking that her hymen was intact. The school would have been in huge trouble if she was no longer a virgin while under their care.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 20, 2018 8:35 AM |
They were not smashed by rocks FFS. The explanation was in the final excised chapter.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 20, 2018 8:35 AM |
It's just a made up story about girls getting lost on a picnic. Exciting stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 20, 2018 8:35 AM |
The original was so damn good.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 20, 2018 8:37 AM |
SPOILER
They die of group autoerotic asphyxia.

I went to Hanging Rock (ie Mount Macedon north of Melbourne at the bottom of Australia).
I was rather underwhelmed.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 20, 2018 8:43 AM |
R16, couldn’t be just ask her?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 20, 2018 8:44 AM |
There are some nice shots of Dominic Guard's ass in tight white pants climbing up the rock in the original film.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 20, 2018 8:46 AM |
Wait, so according to that link there was indeed a supernatural element. They entered a time warp ?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 20, 2018 8:51 AM |
Most importantly, if they entered a time warp, were their hymans still instact??
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 20, 2018 8:54 AM |
Yes, R24.
The final chapter was cut out of the original novel by the decision of the publisher with author Joan Lindsay.
She authorized a representative to release the final chapter after her death.
In the original film & novel, the disappearance of the girls remains a mystery.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 20, 2018 8:54 AM |
Peter @ R1: Amen.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 20, 2018 9:20 AM |
R23, yes! It/they* was/were a highlight of the film. Isn't there also a sturdy jackaroo lad who generates some heat with Dom?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 20, 2018 9:27 AM |
Yes, R28.
The Australian actor is named John Jarratt
He and Dominic have several scenes together.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 20, 2018 4:59 PM |
Yes, the pan pipes were very beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 20, 2018 7:42 PM |
I'm assuming the rock was hanging.......
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 20, 2018 7:48 PM |
The girls were lesbians and it was a lesbian triangle gone bad.
