And proved how effective she can be when not playing to the camera.
Rachel Maddow was in fine form tonight with Comey.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | April 20, 2018 10:12 PM |
Yes, but she asked too many questions he couldn't answer which ended up just wasting time.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 20, 2018 3:40 AM |
I honestly don't think she plays to the camera. I think her excitement/bewilderment gets the best of her and thar she blows. Some people interpret it as mugging or showmanship, but I honestly believe she has a hard time containing herself. During THE interview with Comey, she managed the gravitas (though I have yet to see it It;s in the queue.)
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 20, 2018 3:41 AM |
She does not mug. She is engaged, animated, enthusiastic, intelligent.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 20, 2018 3:42 AM |
No, you're wrong, r1. And how does asking many questions waste time? You make no sense. Also, how could she know what he couldn't answer unless she asked it?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 20, 2018 3:43 AM |
I will say it seemed James Comey readily had an endless supply of “I don’t know” handy
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 20, 2018 3:43 AM |
If Comey is concerned about saying something that would compromise Mueller's investigation, of course he's going to decline to answer.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 20, 2018 3:44 AM |
I don't see how leaking these memos matters. They're not going to help the cunt in the White House.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 20, 2018 3:50 AM |
Madcow
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 20, 2018 3:53 AM |
r9--a font of cleverness in his own mind.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 20, 2018 3:54 AM |
Did r9 just come up with that? That's so amazing! I've NEVER heard that one before.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 20, 2018 3:58 AM |
I don't get the Maddow worship at all. I think she's a 'preach to the choir' person who does little good beyond getting her fans all worked up. I honestly think comedians like Samantha Bee reach more people in a more accessible fashion.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 20, 2018 4:00 AM |
R7, do you watch anything but Maddow?? If you did then you would know the memos weren't leaked, they were made public by the Justice Department tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 20, 2018 4:04 AM |
And then they were leaked, r13.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 20, 2018 4:07 AM |
Apples/Oranges, R12. Samantha Bee has a once-a-week scripted comedy show. Maddow reports and comments nightly with little advance prep and a ton of obligations to journalistic ethics that Bee and cohorts don't. Maddow is excellent at what she does, and manages to allow her genuine effervescent reactions to show. She's also clearly humble about her own limitations in a way that even Lawrence O'Donnell (or Bee, for that matter) isn't.
I'm sorry she's not to your taste, but I find her engaging, perceptive, and refreshing.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 20, 2018 4:09 AM |
It was on the nightly news tonight that Trump wanted the memos made public because he thought they put him in a better light than what has been portrayed. No they weren't leaked.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 20, 2018 4:09 AM |
The memos were released to Congress, not made public. Nunes, Gowdy, et. al. promptly leaked them to the AP. Sheesh, some of you people don't pay any attention.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 20, 2018 4:12 AM |
Released to Congress, under pressure. Then leaked by from Congress apparently.
Rachel was right to keep asking questions Comey refused to answer. Those questions show what is still under investigation and remains to explained, revealed and explicated
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 20, 2018 4:14 AM |
To r16: A. They absolutely don't. B. From The Washington Post: "Unredacted memos will be made available for members of three House committees to review on Friday in a secure facility." And now they're being read and discussed on TV. In other words, leaked.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 20, 2018 4:14 AM |
Agreed, r15. And I love Samantha Bee but there's a difference between a satirical tv show and a news show with interviews. Duh.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 20, 2018 4:17 AM |
R19, they were turned over to congressional committees today.
Is that why no organization is staying they were acquired from "unnamed sources" or why every single news organization has them? One media outlet having them is a leak. All of them receiving the same thing is planned. Again, it was on the news tonight that Trump WANTED them made public. Nunez giving them to the media was not leaking the memos.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 20, 2018 4:22 AM |
R12=Erna
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 20, 2018 4:22 AM |
r21, what part of this Washington Post quote do you not understand? "Unredacted memos will be made available for members of three House committees to review on Friday in a secure facility."
Instead of being reviewed privately tomorrow, they're all over the air and online. EVERYONE on the news outlets refers to these as leaks. Look up the word.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 20, 2018 4:24 AM |
[R21] Nunez {sp) giving them to the media was not leaking the memos.
You're rationalizing yourself into twisty logical knots R21 to avoid admitting you were wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 20, 2018 4:25 AM |
So all the news outlets are wrong, huh, r24? Because apparently you think it's not a leak to take these memos and put them out to the media outlets the night before "members of three House committees" are due "to review on Friday in a secure facility."
You're truly ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 20, 2018 4:30 AM |
R15 But Maddow doesn't do anything. It's just soapbox preaching to her fans. And, frankly, I don't think she's very good at it. The Trump tax returns fiasco, evidence A. She gets people worked up about stuff that goes nowhere. I think others are good at skewing Drumpf in a way that undermines him more decisively...by showing what a complete doofus he is. Maddow's always trying to create the big scandal that takes him down, that never materializes. I like folks who rally potential voters , not Maddow creating fantasies about Trump being destroyed by some big scandal. He's survived scandals all his life. He needs to be voted out.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 20, 2018 4:31 AM |
r24 is a repug troll.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 20, 2018 4:31 AM |
R23, what part of the redacted memos, the same ones that were given to the press tonight, were released TODAY to congressional committees don't you understand?
R24, If you actually watch more than just Maddow then you would know that Trump has said he wanted these released because he feels they better state his case that there was no obstruction. He said this today and every media outlet gets a copy at the same time of what the congressional committee received today and you think this is a "leak". It's as much a leak as his 2005 tax return that Maddow had the exclusive on.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 20, 2018 4:32 AM |
[quote]Nunez {sp) giving them to the media was not leaking the memos.
Yeah, actually it was, particularly since you're just making shit up about what Nunez did or didn't do. You're rationalizing yourself into twisty logical knots to avoid admitting you were wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 20, 2018 4:32 AM |
Of course they were leaked. r28 is an alt-right troll. Obviously.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 20, 2018 4:34 AM |
And by the way, these memos will not help your hero Trump, r28. LMFAO.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 20, 2018 4:35 AM |
How fucking stupid EVERYONE in this "administration" and orbiting this "administration" is. This asshole "president" shoots himself in the dick at every turn.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 20, 2018 4:36 AM |
Don't worry--Rudy G will have this all settled in a couple weeks. LMFAO!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 20, 2018 4:37 AM |
R28, R26 here...not a Maddow fan. But where are you getting that Drumpf wanted these released? He blocked it, so the Democrats redacted everything that could be remotely seen as classified, then they released it. They basically went around Drumpf. I don't think this is the smoking gun Maddows always tries to make things out to be, but this does not help Drumpf, particularly since he's tweeting responses to it that are ridiculously idiotic.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 20, 2018 4:42 AM |
How is he my hero, r31? I never said shit about how I feel about Trump. My commentary is on how people like you are seriously calling this a "leak".
David Muir reports that Trump wants the memos released because he feels they show he did not try to obstruct. You have issue with this, r31, then I suggest you take it up with David Muir.
Congressional Committee members are given redacted copies of the memo tonight by DOJ. You have issue with this, r31, then I suggest you take it up with the committee members or DOJ.
All the media is given copies of the redacted memo tonight at the same time. You have issue with this, r31, then take it up with the media.
This wasn't a leak. It was a plan. Whether you agree that they don't show obstruction or not isn't something I commented on, r31.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 20, 2018 4:44 AM |
Dear Alt Righters
Here's one of your own -- The Daily Caller -- reporting on Comey's LEAKED memos
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 20, 2018 4:46 AM |
R35, do look up the term "leak," won't you? You don't have any data to back up what you're saying and you're just grasping at straws to try to prevent yourself from looking (even more) foolish. Sadly, it's not working.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 20, 2018 4:46 AM |
r34, the idiot just tweeted to say the leaked memos show "no collusion" and that Comey leaked classified info. He's so stupid he thinks this will help him.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 20, 2018 4:49 AM |
Ok, now that we've proven beyond doubt that congress LEAKED the memos, carry on with the discussion of the interview
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 20, 2018 4:49 AM |
R34, here is what was being said at 3:30 today about the memos. On the news tonight it was reported that Trump agreed and wanted the memos released. And, magically, they were.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 20, 2018 4:50 AM |
Yes, the interview...Rachel was prepared, asked questions about what was happening up to the minute. She was great.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 20, 2018 4:51 AM |
I wish she'd dwelt more on the NYC FBI office. WHY were they leaking to Giuliani? Why did they leak about the Clinton investigation and not about the Trump investigation! Was the NYC FBI office trying to get Trump elected? Because they succeeded
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 20, 2018 4:59 AM |
r42, she asked Comey and he answered that he launched an investigation, then was fired. I'm not sure what more she could have asked him about that.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 20, 2018 5:00 AM |
Sheesh, R30, I was quoting R21 who was the one claiming they weren't leaked because all the media outlets had them.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 20, 2018 5:10 AM |
No, r44, I was saying that ABC News reported that Trump wanted the memos released, and, wow, what happened... They were released!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 20, 2018 5:15 AM |
She didn't ask why did the NYC FBI office leak the Clinton and not the Trump investigation? That's different from investigating the leak (which everyone knew came from NY FBI). I'd ask did you know those agents? Comey's from NY. He was in SDNY, it seems logical he would know those agents. He certainly knew Giuliani. I'd ask what did he think about these agents who were interfering with one investigation, but not the other? That's not a legal question. It's asking his opinion. I'd also ask if James Kallstrom, formerFBI chief and noted Clinton hater, was among the agents, active and retired, who were involved in that leak.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 20, 2018 5:19 AM |
Josh Rogin:
Comey tells @maddow he commissioned an internal FBI investigation into leaks to Giuliani about the Hillary investigation. Wow.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 20, 2018 9:01 AM |
Trump wanted these released but could not do it himself; therefore, they were leaked.
I'm not sure what's so difficult for the "it's not a leak" troll to grasp.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 20, 2018 10:04 AM |
It's a shame Comey didn't get an answer on the Giuliani investigation before he left, but hopefully the results will be released now.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 20, 2018 10:05 AM |
Btw, Lawrence on Maddow very specifically said the memos were "leaked" which they knew Republicans would do because that's what Trump wanted.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 20, 2018 10:06 AM |
But the leaked content wasn't altered or edited in any way to make the Democratic Party, Hillary, Flynn, or Comey look bad, right?
I mean at this point Trump and his goons just present actual turds as proof to the Deplorables and the Deplorables eat it up without question.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 20, 2018 12:04 PM |
Rachel is the only TV journalist who gets a report card on DL after each show. Ever considered starting a Jake Tapper daily report card thread?
It was a good interview, and she asked all the right questions given that Comey is part of an ongoing investigation.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 20, 2018 12:36 PM |
[quote]She didn't ask why did the NYC FBI office leak the Clinton and not the Trump investigation?
Probably because Comey wouldn't be able to answer that. He was pausing a lot and saying he couldn't answer things because of the investigation, so she may have decided to not even try with that one.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 20, 2018 12:46 PM |
It's probably her way of saying that these things will matter on a later date since they are being investigated.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 20, 2018 12:51 PM |
Rachel’s interview proved to me that Comeys book is a waste because every important question she asked, he replied with an endless supply of “I don’t know.”
So is his book 300 pages of “I have no idea?”
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 20, 2018 12:54 PM |
Yeah, that's cute r55. I'm not sure Comey did himself too many favors with the book, but by putting Golden Showers conversations and obsessive demands for loyalty back in the news, he did the world a favor.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 20, 2018 6:12 PM |
Comey is either a lying bastard or a f-ing fool (could be both). I guess this is all to save his reputation or something. Too late.
I bet Trump had promised him a cushy job in his admin if he trashed Hillary, then (true to Trump form) he reneged.
Trump and Comey will destroy each other.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 20, 2018 6:40 PM |
The only one going to be destroyed is Trump, troll at r57.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 20, 2018 6:41 PM |
In Fire & Fury, Wolff all but says that Comey was a tool who didn't realize he was being used by various FBI factions. If true, it would explain a lot.
I get the impression Comey has made some poor decisions in an effort to look nonpartisan. The stuff he said and did about Lynch, for example, implied she had all but committed treason, then on Maddow he said twice he didn't think she had done anything wrong. It's as though he thinks being neutral means he must SAY she did something wrong, so it'll cancel out his belief that she DIDN'T do anything wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 20, 2018 6:48 PM |
R59, could you elaborate on the factions within the FBI?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | April 20, 2018 6:53 PM |
I think you described him perfectly, R59.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | April 20, 2018 6:58 PM |
She asked questions that have not been asked during other interviews he's done. How many times can he try to explain his pre-election day announcement?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | April 20, 2018 6:59 PM |
Sometimes interviewers purposely ask questions they know will not be answered. It's not to waste time or because they believe the response will somehow be different. It's to make sure the subject was brought up and is now on record.
It's kind of like those ridiculous Daily WH Press Briefings with Sarah Huckabeast. The reporters purposely ask questions they know she will refuse to answer, but once asked, it's officially on video. And sometimes she'll slip, like when she mentioned the Stormy Daniels Arbitration Agreement when no one was supposed to know about it..
by Anonymous | reply 63 | April 20, 2018 7:23 PM |
Rachel’s best question to Comey was something like, “shouldn’t somebody somewhere have DON SOMETHING when they saw all the shadiness going on?”
Nobody wanted to interfere & look bad & be called unfair.
So they just let it happen and then waited...
by Anonymous | reply 64 | April 20, 2018 7:39 PM |
Hopefully the truth about Giuliani will be exposed.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 20, 2018 9:58 PM |
Bulldyke
by Anonymous | reply 66 | April 20, 2018 10:03 PM |
I'm not a die-hard Rachel fan by any means, but that really was an excellent interview - much better than Jake Tapper's, in my opinion. So many of the interviews have just been asking the same questions that Comey already answered when asked previously, and he just rehashes the same answer again. Rachel's were her own. I really liked how she used his responses re: Loretta Lynch to essentially point out that his reasoning suggests that he's more interested in maintaining the FBI's reputation among misinformed people than he is in protecting the truth.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | April 20, 2018 10:12 PM |
