Two male U.S. senators liked to swim nude in the Senate pool ... in 2009

We can assume that one was Mme. Senatrix Lindsey ... who else?

--

The men also have a better gym than the women and the men’s gym has a pool. When then-Senator Kay Hagan, the North Carolina Democrat, arrived in the Senate in 2009, she wanted to swim there, only to be greeted with a sign on the door that said “men only.” There was a reason for the sign, Ms. Collins said. There were at least two male senators — she would not name them — who enjoyed swimming in the nude. Today, women can use the pool, and the sign says “Proper Attire Required.”

Back in the day, probably each of the Kennedy brothers did.

by Anonymousreply 1April 16, 2018 6:24 PM

Well drop yer drawers and hop right in ladies!

by Anonymousreply 2April 16, 2018 6:28 PM

It was probably Mitch McConnell presenting his little turtle dick.

by Anonymousreply 3April 16, 2018 6:29 PM

You do not want to think about the vast majority of people in the Senate being naked.

by Anonymousreply 4April 16, 2018 6:29 PM

As usual women ruin everything

by Anonymousreply 5April 16, 2018 6:32 PM

Judging by my experience, the people who get naked are the last ones you want to see naked

by Anonymousreply 6April 16, 2018 6:33 PM

It was not only the male Senators, they were allowed to bring their staffers. There was a lot of nude men in the pool and I'm pretty sure it was used for cruising too, which makes the Rethuglican party all the more hypocritical for being so anti-gay.

Joe Biden likes to swim in the nude.

by Anonymousreply 8April 16, 2018 6:37 PM

Obviously Ted Kennedy

I do declare that I am HORRIFIED to think a Datalounger would think me so VULGAR, BRAZEN, and UNSEEMLY as to ever swim unclothed!

I only wear the most MODEST of bathing costumes, and I enter the pool only by the privacy of a bathing machine!

I was going to say Paul "Stop looking at my dick, Senator" Ryan, but he's in the House.

by Anonymousreply 11April 16, 2018 6:45 PM

As usual, men are entitled assholes.

by Anonymousreply 12April 16, 2018 6:46 PM

Because I know one of them is/was Joe Biden - makes me wonder if the NYT is taking a swipe at him.

by Anonymousreply 13April 16, 2018 6:59 PM

r12 it's not entitled. They were swimming nude long before women were voted into the Senate. People just carried on until someone made a big deal out of it. Say what you will about the old Boys Club but shit got done back in the day when Members of Congress socialized, nude or clothed. I'm glad they changed the rules but let's not discredit the work that could get done in between glances at hot congressional aides and steam room playtime.

Cornell had a men's gym, pool and nude swimming when I was an undergrad. Some of the university clubs in NY still had male nude swim in the 80s too. Its an Old Boy thing.

by Anonymousreply 15April 16, 2018 7:03 PM

It is entitled.

by Anonymousreply 16April 16, 2018 7:06 PM

Was Biden the one getting the blowjobs in the men's room ?

I bet Pence was a regular at the pool even though he was not a senator....

Swimming nude used to be standard. Boys swam nude in highscool, you were required to be nude to get into the pool at the Y. It was considered how you swim.

Before society got subconscious about being naked in front of each other.

I get refuted but not the comment that women ruin everything as usual? Typical.

by Anonymousreply 19April 16, 2018 7:08 PM
As usual women ruin everything

Honestly I wonder how much guys caring about covering up is actually due to now we recognize a percentage of men are gay, where before no one thought about that.

by Anonymousreply 20April 16, 2018 7:10 PM
Joe Biden likes to swim in the nude.

Pics or it didn't happen.

by Anonymousreply 21April 16, 2018 7:11 PM
Say what you will about the old Boys Club but shit got done back in the day when Members of Congress socialized, nude or clothed.

That's like saying: Say what you will about slavery but shit gone done back in the day and the cotton was picked in the fields on time!

by Anonymousreply 22April 16, 2018 7:15 PM

Men should have their own space where they can be in the nude and freeballing around each other.

by Anonymousreply 23April 16, 2018 7:16 PM
Say what you will about the old Boys Club but shit got done back in the day when Members of Congress socialized, nude or clothed.

Things were better under the Kaiser.
Boys swam nude in highscool,

Oh, [italic]dear.[/italic]

Also, that didn't happen everywhere--or even in most high schools, I think.

by Anonymousreply 25April 16, 2018 7:21 PM

That's funny. Boys never swim in the nude at our sküle!

That wasn't even my worst typo r25. Did you miss subconscious instead of self-conscious.

And it actually was standard practice in most schools back in the day, it is what was recommended by government standards
American high school and junior high school swimming in many states had policies that followed APHA guidelines. The guideline were published every three years, and from 1926 until 1962 every edition recommended nude swimming.

Ah, yes. The Senate pages. Sheds a little more light on that scandal, doesn’t it?

by Anonymousreply 28April 17, 2018 1:37 AM

The issue isn't that they swam nude. It was common in gender segregated pools for a long time. Most of the Senators are old enough that they grew up swimming nude at camp or school. The issue is that women weren't allowed to use the pool because the guys wanted to swim nude. Either build the women a pool or put some trunks on.
