Ruby in Paradise (1993)

Good movie to watch if you've ever moved to a city on your own and didn't know anyone.

Enjoyed this quiet, interesting movie when I first saw it on cable when it was first out. Ashley Judd's only decent performance I've ever seen her do.

I love it. Such an inspiring movie about independence.

I loved it. Not a flashy movie or even role, but in its quiet and understated way it sends a message about loneliness and independence. Dorothy Lyman has a good part in it.

I should watch it again. I remember a friend renting it back in the 90s and I was bored with it but probably just wasn't in the right mood.

I agree, r1. It’s a perfect slice of life. It gets so much right about that age, like young people submitting to sex out of boredom/so they won’t get fired.

Judd got a lot of good buzz off this film as well as indie cred, as up to that point she was primarily known as the 'other Judd' who had a supporting role on the series Sisters as Swoozie Kurtz' daughter.

After not seeing this movie for years, I still remember certain lines like when they talk about low-impact living.

Naomi moved to different cities and started over again also..

It seems so low budget and personal while watching it. It's hard to picture a camera crew and others there behind the scenes.

It was played a lot on IFC, and was big on VHS rental. Before the days everything was released on DVD.

R21 or Eat Pray Love

I love this little film and I have probably seen it 5 times over the years. I had high hopes for Ashley after seeing it, but I think she picked some rally poor projects in which to display her type of acting skills. I too loved Dorothy Lyman as her employer, and the guy who played her boyfriend, who went on to direct "In the Bedroom" was good as a low key lover.

This movie truly gets the feel of the real Florida which is seldom seen in movies. Ulee's Gold did as well. Cross Creek with Peter Coyote and Rip Torn is my favorite real Florida film ever. I liked it so much I moved to where the movie was filmed.

Very nice little film depicting a little known slice of life in central Florida. I saw it years ago and always rewatch at every opportunity when broadcast (rarely). Time to purchase.

It was one of my choices on the 'Employee Picks" shelf when I worked at a video store in Marina del Rey.

I liked Todd Field in it. I could tell that The White ethnic Judd would become a starfucker. Her biggest conquest being "Daddy".....AKA Jack Nicholson.

Saw it in the theater when it came out. Remember liking it and Judd's performance very much, but it didn't take her long to use it as a stepping stone to a very boring career.

My favorite piece of entertainment by any Judd

I checked out this movie before I moved to the Florida panhandle in 1998. The movie was authentic, it captured the panhandle very well.

And may I add, it was the time that Ashley was at her freshest and prettiest.

Loved it! Saw it in Florida three times when it came out on VCR. Her other best movie is Bug with Michael Shannon.

We just finished watching her as Val Kilmer’s wife in HEAT. (I suppose as young Val Kilmer’s wife I might be in heat, too.) She was very good. What’s that c r a z y one she did as the abused wife who gets revenge?
