LA's Sierra Towers

Why don't the rich LA eldergays all move in and convert it to an unofficial retirement home? Liza, Joan, Cher and Faye all live (or lived) in the building. The balconies are perfect for a morning croissant and decaf, bridge club in the afternoon and a whiskey sour to watch the sunset. Just heaven.

Make that a whiskey sour at sunrise, doll face.

by Anonymousreply 1April 12, 2018 11:32 AM

Isn't it loud?

by Anonymousreply 2April 12, 2018 11:47 AM

Whishky shhour

by Anonymousreply 3April 12, 2018 11:49 AM

are earthquakes a deterrent from living there?

by Anonymousreply 4April 12, 2018 11:56 AM

Low ceilings

by Anonymousreply 5April 12, 2018 11:59 AM

Massively expensive.

by Anonymousreply 8April 12, 2018 12:14 PM

Joan’s taste is awful. But then so is she!

Gurl, why do you say that?

by Anonymousreply 13April 12, 2018 12:26 PM

I had a friend who lived there. Very NYC apt luxury feeling when you drive up with valets, doormen etc, but his apartment was just a normal little crackerbox apartment with really nice views and a lot of mirrors.

by Anonymousreply 14April 12, 2018 12:36 PM

WHy does Op's link sat Doheny Drive - when google maps say Doheny Road?

It looks beautiful from the street.

and I love the little building next door...very old Hollywood.

Is this where Candy Spelling houses her staff?

by Anonymousreply 16April 12, 2018 12:45 PM

Dear God! The balcony's are narrow. Joan's apartment is quite a decent space inside, but she has managed to combine all the truly awful styles from each decade. I bet all the "marble" fittings are just painted MDF too.

by Anonymousreply 17April 12, 2018 12:47 PM
Dear God! The balcony's are narrow.

The balcony's whats are narrow?

by Anonymousreply 18April 12, 2018 12:50 PM

Most DLers wouldn’t fit through the sliding doors never mind onto the balcony!

by Anonymousreply 19April 12, 2018 12:52 PM
she has managed to combine all the truly awful styles from each decade.

LOL

by Anonymousreply 20April 12, 2018 1:29 PM
a normal little crackerbox apartment

What the fuck's a crackerbox apartment?

I love it - but I don't understand it.

by Anonymousreply 21April 12, 2018 1:31 PM

Wonderful views though, from her apartment and sky.

LA can "look" so wonderful.

Matthew Perry's former apt. there

by Anonymousreply 23April 12, 2018 1:39 PM

Joan's style was Ming Deco. Also living in a 'cracker box' should be comprehensible to all--- with the exception of the Darfur Orphan who has never seen a cracker, much less its box.

by Anonymousreply 24April 12, 2018 1:39 PM

Strange VERY QUEENY article and comments re Perry and the building in Variety.

If no stars lived there, it would just be an awful apartment block with crappy interiors.

by Anonymousreply 26April 12, 2018 1:43 PM

I had my feet in the air and my asshole stuffed in that apartment.
Why don't the rich LA eldergays all move in and convert it to an unofficial retirement home?

Don't be silly OP, most rich people in LA live in mansions not apartments.
If no stars lived there, it would just be an awful apartment block with crappy interiors.

Not really. It's a beautiful looking building in an excellent location.

by Anonymousreply 32April 12, 2018 1:51 PM

If I were to spend those kind of bucks, I'd want a pool.

by Anonymousreply 33April 12, 2018 1:52 PM

$58m to live there? To share a pool? At least the balcony is large enough to accommodate the hefty gentleman.

by Anonymousreply 34April 12, 2018 1:52 PM
$58m to live there? To share a pool?

There is no pool.

by Anonymousreply 35April 12, 2018 1:53 PM

The air quality of the higher floor flats must be horrific, given the extent of LA's smog, which must block the view much of the year.

by Anonymousreply 36April 12, 2018 1:54 PM

Ughh 58 mil ? How grotesque. There are better more modern buildings in LA.
OP was talking about retirement. Learn to read!

A mansion can become a retirement building so I was on topic.

by Anonymousreply 37April 12, 2018 1:55 PM

R35 scroll down on r30’s link. A couple floors up there appears to be a communal pool.

by Anonymousreply 38April 12, 2018 1:56 PM

READ the listing:

"The building’s many amenities include [bold]a swimming pool[/bold], a fitness center, and valet parking for residents.

by Anonymousreply 39April 12, 2018 1:59 PM

DL ICON Lindsay Lohan had a 3 bedroom pad there before she ruined her career. I recall she paid less than a million. Prices have gotten way out of hand.

by Anonymousreply 40April 12, 2018 2:00 PM

That swimming pool better be covered in gold.

by Anonymousreply 41April 12, 2018 2:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 46April 12, 2018 2:06 PM

by Anonymousreply 47April 12, 2018 2:08 PM

Yes, it DOES look like a motel pool.

by Anonymousreply 49April 12, 2018 2:10 PM

$5.5 million for a 1 bedroom? WTF is that all about?

I can't think of many places in NY that cost that much for a 1 bedroom. Insane.

by Anonymousreply 50April 12, 2018 2:17 PM

r36 is posting from 1965

by Anonymousreply 51April 12, 2018 3:49 PM

I wonder how long it took them to get the stench of freebase fumes out of the walls of Matthew Perry's old apartment.

by Anonymousreply 52April 12, 2018 4:03 PM

SHIERRA TOWERSH

by Anonymousreply 53April 12, 2018 4:07 PM

I’d love to see Liza poolside showing off her clay models.

by Anonymousreply 54April 12, 2018 4:27 PM

Omg Liza working with clay by the pool, with a cig hanging out of her mouth, would be worth the HOA fees!

by Anonymousreply 55April 12, 2018 4:29 PM

Mmmm...yeahhhh, R55.

by Anonymousreply 56April 12, 2018 4:30 PM

The ceiling height is 11'. That's not low; what am I missing?

by Anonymousreply 57April 12, 2018 4:59 PM

That changes everything, R57. All apartments?

by Anonymousreply 58April 12, 2018 5:03 PM

R57 - I believe that's only the penthouse. The other units look to be 8'.

by Anonymousreply 59April 12, 2018 5:14 PM

Mirrors on every single wall can make a low ceiling seem higher.

by Anonymousreply 60April 12, 2018 6:25 PM

an interior designer friend of mine told me it's quite popular with LA's gay designer community. But this was years ago, now it is probably too expensive now for your average designer.

by Anonymousreply 61April 12, 2018 7:45 PM

A roster of stars at Sierra Towers ...

Rumor has it that Dean Martin sold his condo immediately after riding out the Sylmar Earthquake.

by Anonymousreply 62April 12, 2018 9:34 PM

R61 it’s too expensive for just about everyone. I know it’s LA but $5m for a 1 bed?

by Anonymousreply 63April 12, 2018 9:55 PM

A 1 bed when it was built cost roughly $70,000. Adjusted for inflation that’s around $450,000 today. So these places have outpaced inflation by more than 10x.

by Anonymousreply 64April 12, 2018 10:36 PM

$5 mil for a one-bedroom in LA is ridiculous, who would pay that when you could get a much bigger place for the same amount?

by Anonymousreply 65April 12, 2018 10:49 PM

Schhwimming pool

by Anonymousreply 66April 13, 2018 2:24 AM

I’ve done LOTS of blow in that building. My favorite drug dealer of all time lived there. He was gorgeous, and had a HUGE cock.

We thought it was love, but it was the drugs. And his huge cock.

by Anonymousreply 67April 13, 2018 3:12 AM

Low ceilings. Narrow balconies. Mirrrored walls.

by Anonymousreply 68April 13, 2018 3:15 AM

Way to expensive for what you're getting. I'll take a mansion in Calabasas instead. $5.5 million dollars for a one bedroom? They've lost their damn minds.

They can have that.

by Anonymousreply 69April 13, 2018 11:57 PM

Sierra Towers sounds like the name of a porn star.

by Anonymousreply 70April 14, 2018 2:36 AM

Cary Leeds lived there in the 90's

by Anonymousreply 71April 14, 2018 2:45 AM

Calling the Cary Leeds troll ...

by Anonymousreply 72April 14, 2018 12:38 PM

The 1 bedroom is realistically worth about $650,000 max.
