Redford - hand down.

by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 28, 2018 4:41 PM |
Redford.
I’m not sure what he was really like, but he seemed to be a little more mature and masculine.
Pitt, while handsome, seems to be stuck in Johnny Knoxville mode and sort of metrosexual.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 28, 2018 4:44 PM |
Redford also had charisma and could hold an intelligent or fun conversation. Something Pitt has never been able to do.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 28, 2018 4:50 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 28, 2018 4:55 PM |
Redford. Pitt was always insipid looking. And I didn't think his comic timing was good in Burn After Reading. He was just awkward in that role.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 28, 2018 4:56 PM |
Redford.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 28, 2018 4:57 PM |
Redford. Absolutely. He was at the top for a longer time of his career. He produced some good movies as well. Ordinary People was incredible. And aside from movies, Redford really participated in making this country a better place.
Brad was beautiful and charming in some of his movies. But too often, in events and some movies, he came off as a slob. He's also not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 28, 2018 5:15 PM |
How is that even a question? Redford!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 28, 2018 5:16 PM |
I always thought some director should have cast Redford and Pitt as the same character at different ages of life. Would have been some good stunt casting.

An old Redford movie was on one of those digital channels the other day (The Hot Rock - from 1972) and I was reminded how beautiful he was in his youth. Back in the 70s mom always went on about how good-looking he was I can see why. He's been a craggy and overworked old man for so long now that sometimes I forget how pretty he used to be.

Robert or Paul N, now that would be a contest
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 28, 2018 6:18 PM |
I used to like Redford a lot until I read that he agreed to star in "The Verdict" but only on the condition that the script be modified so that the main character, Frank Galvin, be changed so that he was not an alcoholic.
From what I heard, they had actually started work on the film and when Redford didn't get his way, he dropped out. Thank heavens, Paul Newman, always a better actor and more intelligent, took the role and understood and knew the importance of Galvin's flaws. Leading to one of Newman's Oscar nominations.
So, Redord, while certainly handsome, is not really all that smart.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 28, 2018 6:23 PM |
Spelling should be "Redford", of course.

R18, funny you should say that. When I saw "A River Runs Through It" I had no idea who Brad Pitt was, but was convinced that he was related to Redford somehow; son, maybe.

Definitely Redford for me - more manly unlike Pitt's boyishness and I think Redford was a better actor.

by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 28, 2018 7:49 PM |
I also think this is generational. Redford screams old man to me, while Brad was in his prime during my youth so I've bought into his golden boy image. I remember hearing two women gasp when Brad came on the screen during Ocean's Twelve. He had it for a good couple of years.

by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 28, 2018 8:13 PM |
Redford was bland and boring. More concerned with his image as a matinee idol rather than growing as an actor. He seldom if ever took risks artistically. His ego would not allow him to get a period haircut in THE WAY WE WERE, play opposite Paul Newman in a film adaptation of THE FRONT RUNNER, or attempt a British accent in Sydney Pollacks beautiful but empty OUT OF AFRICA. Not a real actor at all.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 28, 2018 8:22 PM |
Both are handsome but Redford was stunningly beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 28, 2018 8:27 PM |
Robert Redford was better looking.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 28, 2018 8:30 PM |
I would say neither, but Redford was the most handsome (face), and Pitt was the better actor.
R58 is right about bland and boring and all the vanity stuff. Redford is unwilling to let himself be seen out of control, or be in an unlikable role (post becoming a superstar in 1973). He's extremely sensitive about his lack of height, and has been bleaching his reddish brown hair blond for 55 years. Redford's biographer says he's had an intermittent drinking problem for decades.
Pitt's a dumb asshole and drug/substance abuser, but he can deliver a good performance at depths Redford can't/won't.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 28, 2018 8:30 PM |
When Brad Pitt was profiled in Vanity Fair about 25 years ago, I jacked off to his photo for months.
When there were rumors that "The Front Runner" would be filmed with Redford Newman, I was in high school and Redford would have been approaching 40, way too old to play a college athlete. I am afraid that The Front Runner's time has come and gone
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 28, 2018 8:34 PM |
r61 I've never heard anyone outside of Angelina's camp call Brad an asshole, even Jennifer was still pinning for his dick post divorce. I've always heard of him as an easy going low drama actor...for an A-lister.

I saw Pitt at Sean Penn's haiti thing at Milk Studios a few months ago he is very tall in person. Comfortably 6'2".
And very handsome in the flesh.
Did look stoned to high heaven though or just had sad eyes.

I don't care if Brad is a fucking dwarf. Present your hole baby. Not into mole face.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 28, 2018 9:57 PM |
Neither. They are both handsome but lack charisma and are boring faces. I don't care about Brad's life anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 28, 2018 10:03 PM |
Redford. Not brainer.Pitt was never all that. His body is hot. Not him. Butterface. Frau taste. Bad actor. Hygienically challenged. Dumb. Acne scars galore.I never got the hype. Of course in the sauna I 'ld be on all fours begging for his cock, but Redford was spectacular, intelligent, and he was at the top when stars were stars still, meaning he was coupled with the likes of Natalie Wood or Mia Farrow, stunning unforgettable couples. You just want to put Pitt and Juliette lewis in a bath honestly. I even prefer Chris Pratt.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 28, 2018 10:06 PM |
Pity is probably “funnier” and warmer, but Redford has gravitas and presence and is a once in a lifetime beauty.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 28, 2018 10:14 PM |
Redford was better looking. But I don't think much of either them as actors.
Pitt can be good (never great) or downright awful.
Redford has great screen presence, but all but ruined Out of Africa.

by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 28, 2018 10:23 PM |
Young Redford was indeed beautiful, but those 3 big carbunkles on his face were always very offputting to me. Why in the world didn't he have those things removed. But I have to say I've had more erotic thoughts over Brad Pitt (especially lately) than I ever did of Redford.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 28, 2018 10:24 PM |
Out of Africa didn't need anyone to ruin itself. Big long stinking piece of shit. Redford was great in the sixties and seventies, and he played anger better than anyone. Barefoot in the park, the chase, This property is condemned, Jeremiah Jonhson, the 3 days of the condor and all the president's men are great. Ordinary people is a very special movie. He didn't age well. Movie stars generally don't. But Pitt NEVER touched Redford in his prime.

It was a beautiful movie. But Redford's part was an Englishman. Redford couldn't do the accent. And he is otherwise rather dull.

by Anonymous | reply 78 | March 29, 2018 12:46 AM |
I met both of them at different times in my life. I met Redford at a political rally in CT in the eighties. I am a 5'7" female and 125 pounds at that time and I felt like a linebacker next to Redford. He is very tiny and his hair and lashes were more orange then blonde. He had no real ass to speak of and very thin body. I was extemely disappointed since I was a big fan. He looks much BETTER on film trust me on this. I met Brad around 2002. He is at least 5'11" tall and has a much better body then Redford. Face wise he is almost pretty with dimples full lips and smile. Brad looks better in person. I would say their acting skills are similar. Neither one is Meryl Streep. However, I always felt Redford came across more sexy and charismatic on film.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | March 29, 2018 12:49 AM |
It's not much of a contest. Maybe do Redford vs. Newman or Brando.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | March 29, 2018 12:52 AM |
I would say Brad has a better body and in his day Redford had a better face. However Redford has not aged well at all.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 29, 2018 12:52 AM |
Redford is sensational in romantic and light comedy though flat in drama. His comic timing in Barefoot when he and Fonda go at it is superb.
This is not a minor talent. In fact I find it more impressive than good in heavy drama. That whole 'dying is easy comedy is hard' thing.

by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 29, 2018 1:09 AM |
Mmm, Robert Redford. All I could think about when he was on screen was his dick and what it probably looked like. The original Great Gatsby showed him to full advantage. Handsome and built well.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 29, 2018 1:13 AM |
So beautiful Redford in Jeremiah Johnson I can hardly breathe. Brad Pitt I can see he is beautiful but he just doesn't do it for me. He seems like he would ignore everyone, one of those people who doesn't even register when human beings are around.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | March 29, 2018 1:23 AM |
R71, that's probably, although Redford was beautiful, he was sexless. Buttoned-down, as they like to say. Emotionally reserved. I always thought he might come out as gay because he acted so "ewwww" when it came to kissing a female co-star.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | March 29, 2018 1:28 AM |
Redford. Particularly liked him in the Twilight Zone episode "Nothing in the Dark."

Redford, mainly because he managed to make it through a movie with Barbra.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | March 29, 2018 2:34 AM |
I feel like Redford was the more handsome of the two. But Brad Pitt was "more beautiful". They're not really the same terms. I don't think either of them are particularly great actors, but they can deliver. And Brad has surprised me by showing some comic chops, in a few rare instances. So many actors can't do comedy at all. I grew up watching Redford, but have a real affection for Brad.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | March 29, 2018 2:36 AM |
Redford wins. He was more handsome than Brad Pitt by far. I've seen early Brad Pitt photos; he had a nose job to improve his beauty. Redford's beauty was natural.

by Anonymous | reply 93 | March 29, 2018 2:55 AM |
Hands down, Redford. I don't have the same taste as some other posters who think that Brad is more "beautiful." I think he's more like the poor man's Redford. Not as good as Redford in the looks or talent department.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | March 29, 2018 5:00 AM |
R90 I could only see Streisand in that film. A blinding light of charisma. Not Redford, not at all. He was the George Brent of his generation.

by Anonymous | reply 98 | March 29, 2018 4:07 PM |
[quote]I saw Pitt at Sean Penn's haiti thing at Milk Studios a few months ago he is very tall in person. Comfortably 6'2".
I was about to off until I realised this is a joke. Brad Pitt lists his official height as 5'11", but several of those online height verification sites have him at either 5'7" or 5'8". In shoes, 5'9" at best. He's lying about his height and that proves he's as vain as the poster who claims Robert Redford is obsessed with his looks.
I stopped finding Pitt attractive when I found out he's a bad actor who latches on to more talented actors and, in the process, ruining what would have been perfect movies because his status gives him first pick of the best projects. Who can forget how Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey and Goop acted circles around him in Se7en?

Robert Redford, he produced a movie called The Milagro Bean Field War in the 80s (I think), which I always thought deserved a lot more attention than it got.

R116, TWWW would have been more perfect had there been a 'director's cut' that included the deleted scenes and plot line. Even though Sidney Pollack has no qualms chopping it to bits, it would be nice if audiences know WHY they split up at the end.

But Brad Pitt has always been bland to me, I wouldnt even choose him over Keanu Reeves, who was an extremely terrible and wooden actor but can be very charismatic. He was in that terrible 90s movie with Demi Moore, I always wondered why Demi Moore didnt end up with Robert Redford, he was super old then, but still very attractive. Brad pitt was so pretty, but I didnt care for him in any if his movies, he looked like a ken doll, zero personality.

Newman had a pretty face, with the profile of a Greek god, but his legs and arms were short and scrawny and his torso was too wide. But I’d totally fuck his face.

I thought Redford in his prime was hotter than Pitt in his prime.

R115 I totally remember the Milagro movie when it came out. It made magazine covers where I grew up. I've never seen it, I was a little too young and it was clearly a "grown-up movie", then, like you said, there hasn't been much in the way of revivals.

redford has class, doubt he slept his way to the top....
by Anonymous | reply 151 | March 30, 2018 2:02 PM |
Pitt definitely looks like a girl.
No thanks.

[quote] or attempt a British accent in Sydney Pollack's beautiful but empty OUT OF AFRICA. Not a real actor at all..
I've read that Redford was going to use a very credible British accent to play Denys Finch-Hatton, but the producers decided American audiences would no interest in a romantic drama involving a Dane and a Brit. R58 may be right that Redford is vain, but Out Of Africa is the wrong example.

When he was young and pretty the one thing Redford had over Brad was that beautiful hairy chest. I hate to think about what it looks like these days.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | March 30, 2018 2:56 PM |
Would HAVE no interest ^^.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | March 30, 2018 2:57 PM |
I generally don’t like hairy chests except on Henry Cavill.

This is for R135, Bobby as a boy with Mommy. Not a blond until he bleached, and they did have bleach in the days of the old Perry Mason show:

I always had the hots for him when he was inches prime.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | March 30, 2018 6:31 PM |
Him who, R159? Redford's face or the guy whose body they used to photo shop that picture?
by Anonymous | reply 161 | March 30, 2018 6:35 PM |
I thought of Redford as a redhead not blond.

Something about this photo has always seemed so sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | April 1, 2018 2:31 PM |
Sorry, it didn't work the way I thought it would. You have to scroll down some to see him, but it's worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | April 1, 2018 2:33 PM |
Yeah, it's like he had to butch himself up before in order to keep up with the straight man image and keep the dollars coming in. Now that he's spent years being bearded , he cares less. It's a John Travolta thing, totally obvious and known but not discussed.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | April 1, 2018 2:34 PM |
I wonder how long that 'not discussed' will last though

[quote] Brad Pitt is a plastic surgery
How can he be a plastic surgery? That reminds me of that awful My Uncle and His Boyfriend are Goals thread title.
by Anonymous | reply 174 | April 1, 2018 4:56 PM |
Friend of mine worked with Redford ( outside of the film industry ). Said he was nice enough but he had never encountered anyone so aware of his own presence, in that he would clearly make sure he was standing wherever the best light was in the room and so on.
But then I read an interview with him a couple of years ago and he was talking about how he has had no plastic surgery and yet he clearly had his eyes done. So he is clearly still invested in his looks or what he thinks remains of them.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | April 1, 2018 8:16 PM |
Pitt is pretty. Redford was handsome. Neither has a big range, but Redford definitely has more going on intellectually.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | April 1, 2018 8:21 PM |
I love Pitt's boyish charm. Plus he had amazing body in his youth. Redford is handsome no doubt but he seems too self aware of his handsomeness.

Jane Fonda Recalls The Moment She Knew Robert Redford Would Be A Star
by Anonymous | reply 178 | April 1, 2018 11:09 PM |
Robert Redford is the original California golden boy. The first of the archetype and still the best. Like Sean Connery. Unlike Troy Donahue (another CA golden boy) he has intellect, artistry in his work and a social conscience. I think he's Brad Pitt's role model.
by Anonymous | reply 179 | April 2, 2018 12:44 AM |
R175, Redford pleased to the NYT that he didn't dye his hair (wig). Seriously.
by Anonymous | reply 180 | April 2, 2018 2:48 AM |
Pleased.
by Anonymous | reply 181 | April 2, 2018 3:34 AM |
Robert Redford, hands down.
When Barbra first sees him in the bar in The Way We were, she gasps. He's wasted and in uniform but very beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 182 | April 2, 2018 3:36 AM |
Both are beautiful men from different generations.
Super show biz columnist Liz Smith stated that Robert Redford was very self absorbed. Always wanted to be seen in the best light possible in more ways than one, and nothing too controversial. When friend and co-star Paul Newman broached him about starring in a gay themed movie he said No in a hurry.
Redford was indeed a very beautiful man but very Old School - every hair in place, the best lighting, and wanting to look his best all the time.
Unfortunately he didn't age well. Too much time in the sun, maybe genes as well, and even in his 30's wrinkles started to show too clearly until they pretty much took over his face. He couldn't stop Father Time. But a hell of a specimen in his time.

[quote] He couldn't stop Father Time.
He was Death itself.
by Anonymous | reply 185 | April 2, 2018 4:28 AM |
He and Burt Reynolds are about the same age but he's aged a hell of a lot better than Burt.
He's smart enough to know that good looks only last so long so he started working behind the scenes, producing, directing and getting involved in Sundance festival and environmental issues. Can't say the same about Burt.
by Anonymous | reply 186 | April 2, 2018 4:31 AM |
These 2 men are the most beautiful men in Hollywood history.

Someone wondered if Babs had her way (you know what I mean) with Redford during the filming of The Way We Were. The answer is NO. It was reported by insiders that Redford and his cronies laughed and giggled at Babs as she raced around the set trying to do everything possible with her hyper energy. They were amused/annoyed by her constant demands.
She wanted to make another movie with him but it never happened.

Ocean's 11 - George and Brad. I thought Brad became better looking when he turned 40.
by Anonymous | reply 191 | April 2, 2018 5:59 AM |
HOW does one reconcile the fact that he was super self absorbed about his appearance and yet, aside from his hair which is a travesty, he let himself age very, verrrry naturally. Compared to say Beatty, Michael Douglas, even Al Pacino? Seriously I’m asking, because it really doesn’t make much sense to me.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | April 2, 2018 9:54 AM |
Those 3 movies stars used their looks and status to sleep around but I never heard any stories about Redford. Was the guy so beautiful that he got bored from women throwing themselves at him? I wonder if he slept with Fonda. He made 3-4 movies with her.
by Anonymous | reply 194 | April 2, 2018 10:32 AM |
Redford has always been an extremely private person, and I've never heard salacious gossip about him. Married to his first wife for almost thirty years. He does his own thing, but there's integrity and decency there.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | April 2, 2018 10:41 AM |
I thought he cheated on his wife with Sonia Braga?
by Anonymous | reply 197 | April 2, 2018 10:43 AM |
Yes, he left his wife for Braga. His marriage was probably over by then.
by Anonymous | reply 198 | April 2, 2018 11:25 AM |
Redford seems like a one-woman man.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | April 2, 2018 11:31 AM |
R186, no fair because Reynolds has numerous health issues and is severely under weight. He and Redford are EXACTLY the same age - born in 1936. For years Redford claimed 1937.
Redford was separated from his first wife long before Sonia Braga. They were officially divorced in 1984. He's a loner, not a womanizer.
R194, Redford practically confirmed that he was involved with Natalie Wood in the 1960s. Jane Fonda, no, she was a one of the boys type.
R192, don't you know that pic isn't real?
I cannot believe he thinks he looks good now with this unkempt wig. Veneers look good, if too white.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | April 2, 2018 4:23 PM |
I should mention the comment about Natalie Wood comes from the Michael Feeney Callan biography that Redford cooperated with - he provided photos and agreed to be interviewed at length.
